Epilogue 2: The Surprise

***Part 1: Doubling Over***

Several weeks had passed since the events in the stable at Sweet Apple Acres. All was well, for the most part. Sunset saw Applejack in private at every free moment they both shared. At school, brief hugs and loving kisses were shared where they knew no one could see them. Over time, Sunset began to feel strange and slightly ill. It began with a loss of appetite. This was followed by a great decline in her mood and her appearance. Sunset quit taking care of herself. Then, a few days later, the exact opposite occurred. Sunset began over eating. She became overly emotional, and cared more for her physical appearance than Rarity ever would.

Now, the cycle continued, and Sunset Shimmer groaned something awful. She held her arm across her stomach as Applejack guided her through the hallways of the school. Students passed her by, but none seemed to notice her pain. She had no appetite. Applejack tried to get her to eat a home-made breakfast from Granny Smith, but that was out of the question. Applejack lead Sunset into the nurse's office.

"Sunset? Applejack?" The nurse asked as she looked up from her desk. "What can I do for you girls?"

"Somethin' is wrong with Sunset." Applejack explained. "She's... goin' through some weird changes, and I'm a little concerned..."

The nurse nodded as she motioned for Sunset to sit on a cot.

"Alright, dear... When did this start?" The nurse asked Sunset.

"A week ago..." Sunset Shimmer groaned as she held her stomach. "Sometimes I feel like I can't eat, then I feel as though I can't stop eating... I always feel sick to my stomach, and... I don't know... I just feel awful..."

The nurse observed Sunset for a few moments before returning to her desk.

"Sunset..." The nurse sighed. "Your symptoms are peculiar, but they don't make much sense. I'm going to need a professional from your own world to confirm my suspicious."

Sunset and Applejack looked at each other. Applejack offered her an encouraging smile. Sunset managed to smile weakly back at her friend.

"Alright..." Sunset moaned. "I'll see if I can get some pony over here."

***Part 2: The Better Kind Of News***

Princess Twilight Sparkle arrived the next day. She wasted no time in making the journey to the human world the moment she saw Sunset's letter.

"I see..." Princess Twilight muttered to the nurse as they both overlooked the results from their previous tests on Sunset. "This... it doesn't..."

"I agree." The nurse said. "This doesn't make any sense at all."

Sunset frowned as she held her hand over her stomach. The words coming from Princess Twilight and the nurse were far from comforting. At last, the nurse set the clip board on her desk, and she turned to face Sunset.

Well, Sunset Shimmer..." She said. "The good news is, you are perfectly healthy. You can go back to your classes now."

Sunset cocked her head.

"W-What?" Sunset asked. "What do you mean? What does that mean? I just overheard you saying something was wrong."

Princess Twilight chuckled as she placed a hand on Sunset's shoulder.

"Nothing is wrong with you, Sunset." Princess Twilight said as she pulled Sunset into a quick embrace. "Well, I better be getting back. Spike is going to get worried. You two enjoy the rest of your day."

On that happy note, Princess Twilight gracefully walked out of the nurse's office. Sunset smiled as she watched her friend leave, but she still felt unsure. Something didn't seam to add up. Sunset still felt slightly I'll. She turned around to ask the nurse, but the nurse was gone.

*You two enjoy the rest of your day.* Princess Twilight had said.

But the nurse was gone. Princess Twilight and Sunset were the only ones in the room.

*You two enjoy the rest of your day.*

"Two...?" Sunset gasped.

Sunset tried to run after the princess but the pain in her stomach stopped her half way down the corridor. Sunset panted as she held her arm tightly across her abdomen.

"I... I can't be..." Sunset muttered to herself as she looks down at their figure. "That can't be right... I can't be..."

"That's what I thought too." The nurse said.

Sunset nearly jumped out of her skin. She spun around to find the nurse standing behind her, grinning from ear to ear.

"I'm pregnant?!" Sunset demanded in a hushed tone.

The nurse shrugged her shoulders.

"Well, you have two heart beats. So, unless you have two hearts, you have a little pony inside of you." The nurse said with a light chuckle. "Now, normally, I would be appalled if any student here got herself pregnant, but since you are... not from around here, I can let it slide. You're going to be a mother, Sunset Shinmer. To what, I cannot say. The Equestrian anatomy within you is beyond me, which is why I needed Princess Twilight's help."

Sunset found it difficult to form words with her mouth.

"I... I'm... pregnant..."

*Chief...*

She felt unsure of how she should feel. The nurse placed her hands on Sunset's shoulders and ushered her down the corridor.

"It's time for you to get back to your classes, Sunset."

After a few steps, Sunset began to walk without the nurse's encouragement. She made her way down the corridor to the main entrance. She could see out of the doors. Princess Twilight was returning to the portal in the school yard. Just before she reached the portal, Twilight turned back around and looked at the school, at Sunset. Sunset could see her mouthing words. They appeared to be: 'Good Luck.'

Sunset grinned at her friend and gave her a wave that signaled 'farewell'. Twilight returned the wave before she walked into the portal. Sunset stared at the empty portal. She then looked down at her stomach. The ill feelings had begun to subside, for now.

*I can't believe there's a... a baby in there...* Sunset thought to herself as she rubbed her stomach gently.

She was glad Princess Twilight had wished her good luck. Sunset Shimmer was going to need it.
