It was dark and the air reeked of piss and shit. The feeling of being drained was the only thing that made me feel as if I was alive, everything else had since faded. My body was frail countless years of being stuck underground slowly having my magic drained had reduced me to a shell of my former self. I was nothing now. I’m sure my name had all but faded to legend. Knowing the sisters the would want nothing to remain of my name.
“My offer still stands Reaper, we could escape this place,” came a withered and dust covered voice. I turned my head to see the old and broken form of a centaur. A dark cloak concealed his features yet his hands stretched out to me from under the cloak. His hands were bound in irons, the skin hanging loosely to his bones leaving the old centaur to resemble a skeleton. I couldn’t say much though, I looked the same as him, my body was just as frail and weak as his.
“Ask me again centaur and I will rip your tongue out and feed it to Cerberus!” I threatened, my yellow eyes glowing for a second. The centaur backed away from me, his arms raised in protection, but I remained seated. I didn’t want to waste the energy on him.
“You’ll regret this Reaper,” he called as he moved further into the shadows. “When I escape, I’ll remember your threats,” with that he was gone.
I sighed and looked up towards the sky. I couldn’t see it. The dark underground of Tartarus was otherworldly in that it was a cold and unforgiving place. The very air itself was like a poison yet those in Tartarus could not die. It was the curse of this place, we would suffer but never die. I remember thinking a few thousand years ago that if hell was real this place was as close as I would get.
I had sat like this for so long I couldn't even count it. There were no days in Tartarus, no nights, time was meaningless in this hell. I would never die as long as I stayed here, my age would stay the same as the day I entered here, but my body had suffered. I myself was nothing more than skin and bones, what muscles this body once held had long since deteriorated along with any magic I had.
I heard something. It sounded like something popping into existence, or rather puffing into existence. A moment later Something touched down on my shoulder, I could feel feathers brushing my ear before they folded, and talons slightly digging into my shoulder. The call of a crow rang in my ears. It was all I needed before I stood for the first time in a long time. My bones cracked and popped from disuse for so long. I headed for the entrance to Tartarus.
