Rise of equestrian royalty
Ten years, ten long years had passed since starry had left and it was still just as painful today as it was all those years ago, for grey had never stopped believing that his sister would come back and they would live together as a happy family again... That wasn't the case as the years went by his parents had grown cold and distant, this was just the start of Grey's pain as a few short years had past after starry left that a dragon had come to the city and his parents and most of his childhood friends had died slaying the beast he had been in the woods with several trainees. They arrived at the edge of the city only to see the city in flames, grey told all his trainees to stay close to him, pulling his spear off his back grey and his troops slowly made their way into the burning city.
" Alright men I want you to split into groups of four and search the city for survivors." Grey ordered all twenty trainees saluted before moving off into the city.
Looking around Grey saw one group searching the immediate area, not seeing anything else in the area Grey moved onto the guard barracks with the hope of finding his CO and maybe more guards to help in the rescue efforts, assuming any were still alive, as Grey searched the barracks he could make out the oder of burning flesh and metal.
" Anypony who's still alive sound off!!" Grey yelled into the burning building....
...
After several minutes of silence Grey was about to move on when he heard a faint response.
"C-captain skies i-is that you?" A raspy female voice asked.
"Where are you!?" Grey yelled "what section of the building are you in??"
Several long seconds past before the mare responded.
"I-i'm in th-the armory"
"Hold on I'll get a few of my men to help get you out of there." Grey said
Looking around Grey couldn't see any of his trainees and was about to leave when the mare spoke up.
"N-no I won't live much longer, just please let me see your face."
"Hold on I'll be there in a second." Grey responded
Taking to the sky grey was able to see a hole in the roof that was situated just a few rooms from the armory, floating around to the hole grey was able to easily fit inside and began to briskly trot down the the armory.
The armory was not as bad as Grey expected it to be looking around Grey was able to see the mare that called out to him pinned to the wall on the far side of the room by two swords sticking through her chest, as Grey got closer his heart stopped and he sunk to the floor........The mare was his mother
"M-mother." Grey said tears building in his eyes
"Its good to see you one last time before I pass on." Grey mother said weakly
"What happens, who would do this!!" Grey yelled anger surging through his body.
"It's not your fault my son." Greys mother said "I have one last task for you my son."
"Anything for you mother." Grey said tears falling from his eyes
"Find and protect you sister." His mother said her eyes closing one last time
"As you wish mother, I'll find her and keep her safe." Grey swore.
Rise of equestrian royalty
500 BC. (before Celestia)
Long ago in a land long forgotten by time, there lived a mighty race of ponies who were bat like in nature they were the Thestrals and their most common counterpart is the pegasi of today, all thestrals were nocturnal and lived and flourished in the night.
Grey Skies sat alone in his bedroom he was cleaning his guard armor as a Thestral guard he was charged with protecting the small city he lived in just like his mother & father before him Grey should have been happy he was the youngest guard in the city at just eighteen years old and he was already a lieutenant much to his regret however that just ment it was another year he and his sisters would go without the love of their parents.
Greys parents had been in the city guard for fifteen years, those years had been had on grey and his sister as it meant that he was the one to basically raise his sister while his mother and father had to work, this wouldn't have been so bad except it meant grey had to adopt a more parental mindset and had to teach his young sister the do's and don'ts of thestral life, many years would pass like this, grey would always be there for his sister while also giving up a part of his teenage years...
(Five years later)
"Starry hurry up you're gonna be late to school!" Grey yelled up to his sister
Grey skies had just graduated from the guard academy and was waking his sister from her sleep as he did most days, grey had become a guard to help his mother and father support the ever increasing school payments.
" Starry WAKE UP!!" Grey yelled again
Walking g up stairs he knocked three times on his sister's door and when she didn't answer he pushed the door open, and much to his supprise he found his sister wasn't sleeping instead he found a single piece of paper on her bed sheets, picking the paper up grey was shocked to read what it said.
(Starrys note)
"Dear grey.
I know you'll be the first one to find this and I would like to tell you how sorry I am you've had to raise me and while ill admit it was the best five years of my life I must also regret to inform you that I won't be coming home ever again, I just need to find my place in this world and I'd appreciate it if you didn't worry I promise you I'll write you when I find a place to live and I'll make sure we stay in touch... Also tell mom and dad I still love them an this isn't their fault either."
Love Your sister: Starry
Placing the paper down grey had a stream of tears flowing down his face, all he could think was, it was in fact his fault and he had to bring his sister back but he hadn't a single clue as to where she might have gone.
Grey left the room and began to walk down stairs thinking of how he would tell his parents that their seventeen year old daughter had just run away, all while thinking of a way to bring her home where she would be safe.
