Anon. You have the power and popularity that only heroes can gain after doing miraculous works like saving the planet, or stopping an evil invasion. You have the skill and potential to do many things simply because, you are Anon.
However what will you do when all that power, when all that potential, when all that intelligence and skill, is taken away from you. And you no longer have the popularity and powers you used to have hm?
“My question to you is: What will you do, when you are weak?” a voice boomed from the darkness that you now looked through.
You could not speak.
It had been no more than a couple minutes ago where you had returned from another wonderful day at work and retired early to bed. Everything was going great, till you started getting a headache. So your boss let you call in early and head home for some rest.
After spending about three hours of your day sitting on that ass of yours and doing nothing but watching reruns of Two and A Half Men or any other show you could find you ended up watching, one episode of a show called My Little Pony.
You did not know why you had watched it. You were a grown 23 year old man who had a steady job and graduated from college a year ago and were now spending your time in luxury with a degree in something you could not recall at this very moment.
However when you began watching this show MLP you found yourself interested, if only slightly. Soon enough you’d found that you had watched all five seasons within the night and the very next day as well. Completely forgetting that you had to return to work the very next day.
However your boss was a cool guy as well as the rest of your employers.
“Pssh what? Oh no you’re fine! You’re fine! Don’t worry about it take as much time as you need to rest and we’ll see you in a few weeks. Have a good one you wonderful bastard you!” he had said when you had called in about your job.
Click!
The line had been cut on the other end. You still couldn’t believe you had such an amazing boss, family and friends who all seemed to be really cool about everything that happened. In fact your entire life had seemed to have gone pretty smoothly now that you thought about it.
Factors where other people troubled with, you merely excelled. Something that had initially bothered you at first but your older brother who strangely enough seemed to admire your skill told you that “Those kids are just a bunch of losers! We’re the winners boy and with your skill you’ll be going places” he had said with a wink.
Obviously that didn’t make you feel any better but after going through high school with minor problems you found yourself eventually agreeing with your senior brother’s terms.
Maybe I am better than everyone else, you thought.
After all what did you have to worry about?
You had been getting straight A’s and only a few B’s throughout your entire academic career. You had a photographic memory. You had only been in about what? 25 different relationships throughout your high school career, almost dating the entire female high school body, -and on rare occasions males- all of which ended peacefully without a hitch.
While others you had noticed ended in pain or some going as far as something much worse, you had never once had a single problem like that before. All the relationships that ended, you were still good friends with and this only continued after you got into college. Though this time you were a bit more mature and didn’t jump into relationships like you had before.
And while you were single now you did have the pleasure of getting to know quite a few amazing women at your college along with a few pretty cool chill guys who you were close friends with. All of which you communicated with even now.
Even when you had applied to get this temporary job as an accountant it had gone smoothly. Once again without a hitch your skills seemed to manifest out of nowhere. And sure you ended up making a few enemies, here and there but they were all snuffed out by the sheer light you seemed to shed everywhere you went.
“Ah Fuck em!” your big brother had said when he visited you the day before, as you were at this point on the fourth season of MLP.
“People will be jealous when zealous people end up becoming better they are lil bro. There’s nothing you can do about it” he said with a shrug.
“But you sure as hell should be glad your so loved and adored by the people of not only our town but other areas as well. So I say screw the critics and just enjoy life bro! You only live once after all!” he had said with a hearty laugh before patting you on the head and walking out.
So once you had finished watching all five seasons of MLP and promising yourself you would never do such a marathon in one sitting again you went to bed. Woke up the next day, prepared for work having felt much better from that three day break, and returned home.
Albeit, upon return your head began to ache again. Much worse than it had before. It was strange because you never got sick- okay, "never" would be a stretch you didn’t get sick often.
So as you changed into jeans and donned on a black shirt and a white hoodie you lay on your bed and relax staring at the marbled ceiling above you.
I’ll just shut my eyes for a few minutes you thought. And after a hour or two you found yourself feeling much better.
Eventually waking up to go to your kitchen and get something to eat you opened your bedroom door only to find it pitch black outside.
“Strange” you said. And stepped out, only to jump back in shock from feeling water on your ground.
My Carpet! you thought with terror clenching your soul. That had been a gift from grandmother who got it from a weird salesman in Peru. It was made of pure fur and was considered quite the pricey item.
You slide your hand over the wall to reach for the light switch but found nothing there, not even the wall. Taking in a deep breath you braced yourself stepping into the cold water, feeling shock go through you as you made your way deeper and deeper in this strange plane that seemed to have completely replaced your living room.
“Hello?” you called. “Is anyone else really confused about what’s going on?”
Silence ensued. So you shrugged and pushed on until eventually your foot hit dry land. Climbing up on to the dry surface your head began to ache again.
“Bloody hell!” you cursed. You really needed to stop watching Family Guy, but what’s this? A voice interrupts you.
“Anon?” the deep voice called through the darkness, and suddenly you could feel your headache weaken despite the powerful voice of this being who seemed to weaken your headache.
“Yes?” you replied.
And here you were. In this plane with this being that had stated every single skill you had before you. Your hobbies, the people you knew, the persons you’ve dated etc, etc. And each time the invisible being mentioned something it sent a chill up your spine.
Now he or maybe it- was asking you what you would do if you lost all this skill, all this potential you had been so lucky to be blessed with.
Once again you said nothing, most likely still shocked from what you had just experience from the list of everything you’ve done up to now and the sudden question this being threw at you.
“Anon!” the voice roared, forcing you to cover your ears as the voice reverberated in your chest, throughout this dark abyss as well.
“You have kept me waiting long enough. Answer my question” the being said.
You gulped, but you weren’t that worried (at least you hoped) that was another aspect you had for yourself. Courage.
“I...I do not know what I would do. But seeing as I am better than most others I’m sure I would be just fine” you said with a touch of confidence.
The voice that spoke to you remained silent, seconds passed and it was almost as if a chill had begun to fill the room.
Finally the being chuckled, his laugh sending numerous spasms down your back making your hair stand straight up in terror.
“It is true what they say then. Anons- no humans. Are really the most overconfident race I have ever come across. Only few have been able to answer me with infallible sincerity, and you appear to be one of them” the voice said with a slight cheerful note.
“However” he stated with a cold edge now touching his voice that would possibly make the shapeshifting master of darkness shudder.
“All beings, sapient, sentient alike must learn that arrogance, neglect, and the seven sins will lead to their ultimate end. You Anon have failed to realize that your constant prowess in everything you do, affects others. Not only that you have unconsciously placed yourself as the human that is of the higher status than any other on earth.
“Truth hurts boy” the voice said to the offended look on your face. “And now, your punishment is at due.”
“What?!” you yelled. “Why? Why am I being punished for something I didn’t even do! I committed no crime! I’ve done nothing wrong I’ve-”
“You are oblivious. Too oblivious for normal standards, and at the same time you do things that you yourself are not conscious off. For that.” A purple light hit you in the face as you heard the massive sound of something descending towards you.
Two purple eyes towered over you staring in utter silence, that seemed to show wisdom beyond its years.
“For that, your punishment is inevitable. Now I will strip you of your gift” the voice with glowing purple eyes said as you could hear something move from the water.
You gulped as you could feel all sense of courage you had felt seep out of you. You desperately wanted to switch places with someone as you could sense whatever was moving towards you slowly get closer.
At this very moment you could feel yourself desperately desiring to switch with one of those friends you had made. Your thoughts of betrayal were only justified by “I’m sure they’d be better off than me...right?”
A chuckle from the beast above as it inched closer drew your attention towards the purple lights staring down at you.
“Even now you show signs of betraying your comrades.”
“No!!” you lied, but knew it was futile. He could read your thoughts and lying would get you nowhere. Fear kicked in betraying courage, anger replaced any humbleness you had originally shown. Envy for your friends being at home instead of you, soon took over your mind but all were stopped as you suddenly felt something lifting you up towards the beast’s face.
Your body was trembling, and you felt like any second you would pee yourself.
“Please” you implored. “Spare me...please” you said feeling the tears sting your eyes.
The only response you got from the beast holding you in it’s bare palm as those shining bright purple eyes blinded you was a laugh. The same laugh that sent a chill up your spine.
“Human. You tried, but to your supplication” he said raising another hand as it slowly came towards you.
“I deny” the hand slammed down on you, before all went dark. And you once again found yourself in the darkest depths of sleep.
“You, Anon, are powerless. Now, and forever. Till I deem fit.”
You don’t know how long it had been. You had been asleep for quite sometime but you could hear a faint voice calling you.
“Hey! Hey Mr. are you alright!” the female called.
Lurching forward suddenly and taking in a deep breath as if you’d just been suffocated you looked around.
This isn’t my home was the first thought that crossed your mind.
A bunny hopped over and began tapping against you to get your attention. “Huh?” you said giving it one glance before turning your attention back to the area. In front of you was a cottage.
Oh no.
“Um sir?” a meek voice said.
This can’t be.
“Are you alright?” Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie came into your peripheral.
You groaned.
It is! I’ve been sent to Equestria!
“I think he’s sick Fluttershy.”
“Oh no!” the mare said trotting towards you and placing a hoof on your head. “He doesn’t feel warm. Maybe he has a cold?”
“I assure you I’m fine” you said, but strangely enough the mares gave you confused looks like they weren’t sure what you were saying.
Don’t tell me they can’t-
“I’m sorry what did you say? We don’t understand.” You facepalmed.
Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy gave each other confused looks.
“Sir, I think you should come with us. We have a friend who might be able to help you with your slight speech problem” Pinkie said pulling on your sleeve.
You stared at the exuberant pink mare still confused why she wasn’t fleeing in terror by your appearance. Obviously you knew that they'd never seen anything like your kind before, and from the episodes you knew this mare was one to freak out over anything.
“C’mon!” she said now pushing up against your back with her hooves as she began slding you towards Ponyville. Fluttershy was just behind you two.
“Angel, please make sure the critters get fed okay?” Angel saluted before hopping back into the cottage.
I’ll never get that bunny you thought, as you could now see Ponyville in your sights. But froze as a sudden thought occurred to you.
These two may not be scared of me. But the townsfolk will! Digging the heels that had been being dragged across the ground you came to a stop earning Pinkie’s face hitting your back.
“Ow!” she whined. “What are you doing?”
You simply shook your head and pointed to the town. There was no way you would go in there.
“Oh cmon it won’t be bad” Pinkie said getting what you’re saying.
“She’s right, the ponies there are understanding and nice, you don’t need to worry.”
You gave it some thought. Considering you had just faced a supernatural being just a few moments ago what did you have to lose?
So you complied following the two ponies towards Twilight’s castle. Only a few ponies saw you, and to your slight nervousness some gave you looks of disgust a few others ran away.
Well that’s just great, you thought.
“We’re here!” Pinkie said with a smile as she opened the door. “Hairless monkey’s first” she said to you with a kind smile.
You did your best to restrain your anger but if you were called a primeape one more time you would unleash a wrath that not even Tartarus could hold a candle to.
Once the three of you were up the steps Pinkie moved up ahead in the common room towards the stairs. Taking a deep breath she gave a yell that shook the entire room itself.
“TWILIGHT! WE HAVE A GUEST FOR YOUUUU!” she screeched, forcing you to cover your ears.
It took only a few seconds for Twilight to come out and emerge from whatever she had been doing. “What in Celestia’s name did you scream that loud for Pinki-” she froze her eyes catching you.
“Oh no” you said causing her to scream in glee at the foreign language she could not understand. Shoving Pinkie aside and comedically getting her to land in her chair the young alicorn stared at you with one of those cute yet disturbing smiles, her eyes glistening with what type of knowledge she could get out of you.
“Hi I’m Twilight Sparkle. What’s your name?” she asked you. You didn’t reply because you knew she wouldn’t understand what you were saying and surely she wouldn’t either she probably just wanted to hear those foreign words coming out of your mouth again.
“Um Twilight?” Fluttershy started.
“Oh this is great!” the alicorn said with that creepy grin. “I can’t believe I’m meeting a foreign creature, and it’s thanks to you two!” her horn glowed a light orchid teleporting Pinkie to her side so she could wrap the two mares in a tight embrace.
Thank you! Thankyouthankyou!!!” she said hopping with glee.
Was she always this over excited about this stuff you wondered.
“We’re glad you’re happy...Twilight” Pinkie managed to say from the overbearing force Twilight was applying to her waist. “But we really need your help!”
Twilight dropped her two friends. “Sure what is it?”
“Well, as you just saw he can’t speak our language. We were hoping you could use some sort of spell to fix that” Fluttershy explained with a smile.
“Oh yeah of course” she froze though. “But if I do I won’t get the chance to study him” she thought biting her lip.
OH for the love of! You stomped giving the alicorn a firm stare that told her “No”
Seeming to get the message, she nodded and though reluctant her horn glowed, hitting your throat with a spell that would freely grant you the power to speak their language.
“Well?” Twilight said with a slight touch of nervousness. “Say something” she asked taking a step closer than the other two mares in great anticipation.
You cleared your throat, feeling a small burning sensation. You coughed before opening your mouth to speak, seeing Twilight’s face almost light up as you got the first words out of your mouth.
“Hey there name’s Anon pleasure, now could I get some water?” you asked. Hearing Twilight scream with sheer joy before she fell over with a look of bliss written all over her face, Fluttershy looked at you with a reassuring smile.
“She’ll be fine and wait here I’ll get you that water” she said turning towards the kitchen.
*** ***** ***
Within a few seconds you were sitting with the three mares and slowly sipping your cup of water, feeling a bit better since this whole ordeal with that beast.
“So..” Pinkie Pie said. “What are you?”
“I’m a human. Though from watching your...show I can say for a fact you’ve never met one before.”
“I’m sorry?” Fluttershy asked with a confused look, you shook your head waving the question away. “Nevermind. All you need to know is that I’m human.”
Twilight was scribbling notes down quickly on a notepad. “And where are you from Anon?”
You froze, recalling that you were possibly no longer on earth but some alternate universe of it. Shaking your head you turned your attention back to the mares. “I’m from a distant land that you wouldn’t know of...let’s just leave it at that.”
Twilight went silent for a few seconds before nodding slowly and dropping her pencil and paper. “Are your friends and family with you?”
You winced. “Do you...have friends and family?” Pinkie asked with concern. You nodded.
Are my friends *really** my friends though? After what that thing said he made it seem like everything I;ve ever done is put people down.*
“Anon?” Fluttershy asked with concern. “How did you get here?”
Suddenly you could feel a wave of emotions rushing through you, all of them being negative. The most potent one. Anger.
“I don’t know!” you yelled, although unintentional it definitely threw Fluttershy off guard.
“Hey! She was just asking a question!” Pinkie Pie said defensively.
“Well you know what questions won’t help me now will it?” you said with a mocking tone.
“I just got dragged out of my own world, for reasons I still don’t understand. Am being punished for crimes I bloody as well for sure know I didn’t commit! And now I’ve been forced into a alternate universe based off a show for kids! Not to mention that thing did something to me!”
“What thing?” Twilight asked.
Taking in a quick breath you could feel your face reddening with anger. “I. Don’t. KNOW!!” they all backed away in shock at your shout, as you slouched over feeling exhausted, furious and tired.
“All I know is that...for the first time in my life...I feel...so powerless” you placed your hand over your face to stop any tears that may threaten to fall, lest they make you appear weaker than you already feel.
The three mares looked at each other with concern and confusion. But moved towards you regardless awkwardly stroking your back, in an attempt to soothe you. But try as they might you knew deep within you. That you Anon, had lost something great.
That you were now...weak.
