A soft breeze carved its way through the sky, curling gently around the body of the silent mare. The night was still and silent as the mare gazed up, her eyes tracing the constellations one by one before coming to rest on the bright orb, darkened only by silhouette that caused the mare's heart to ache. Forlorn, the regal mare closed her eyes and continued to stand in silence. The memories drifted back, unbidden, and the white alicorn lost all sense of time as she was swept away on its currents.

"All hail Princess Celestia! All hail Princess Luna!" The cheer from the crowd below brought graceful smiles and pink blushes to the new Princesses' faces, who turned to each other and embraced. The new crowns upon their heads were an unfamiliar weight, one which only reminded the elder sister of their new duties to accompany the precious regalia. The younger sister, however, soaked up the attention of the crowd and delighted in their praise. As the two ponies stepped lightly into their new castle, the dark blue alicorn was bursting with things to say.

"Oh Tia! Did thou see how they adored us? We shall embrace our subjects with open hooves! Now that the Discord creature has been vanquished, we finally have claimed our rightful places as rulers! Certainly thou art pleased as well?" Luna questioned, studying her sister's, though smiling, more serious face.

"Yes, dear sister, We art pleased. Though We worry about the responsibilities of such a position. We now must care for the ponies of this land and provide them with the sun and moon. It shall take much work to restore order to the land, for Discord hath destroyed much of the natural elements that resided here. It shall be no easy task, sister," Celestia returned as the two walked down the hall, their hoofsteps echoing on the stone walls. Celestia's horn alit with golden magic, and Luna's with pale blue, as they opened the throne doors together. The two new princesses took their seats on their respective thrones, and while delighted, Luna noticed that her sister's was larger.

'Tis no misfortune,' Luna thought to herself, 'for Celestia is larger than We.' And so the evening progressed as court ponies sought to meet their new rulers. Celestia engaged in pleasant commentary with all she spoke with, and Luna entertained them with stories of Discord's defeat and their adventures while discovering the Elements. As the time for the sun to set drew near, the two sisters returned to the balcony.

"Art thou ready, sister?" Luna inquired, unfolding her wings and shifting from hoof to hoof in excitement. Celestia smiled at her sister and spread out her own wings as well.

"Yes, sister." Celestia cleared her throat and turned to the crowd of eager ponies below, excited to witness the first display of solar and lunar magic by the newly crowned Princesses. "Ponies of Equestria! We bid you good night!"

The two alicorns touched their horns together, their wings spread on display, and the sun dipped below the horizon and the moon took its place. The crowd cheered once more, and Luna rose into the air, bringing the constellations to life. In honor of her and Celestia's coronation, the younger alicorn placed a new set of stars in the sky, promising a long and united leadership for the newfound Equestria.

Author's Note

Not really sure where this story was going, was just going to be a set of drabbles but might turn it into a backstory for the rise of Nightmare Moon as well as defending Celestia for her actions. So for now, enjoy!
