It was official, he was demoted again. Lieutenant Carter just kept looking for any error on his part, from his actions in the field and his mission reports. The man was out to get him, and he didn’t even know why. Worse his Parents had taken another trip leaving him to care of Twilight again, he was so glad Cadence was still willing to watch her even when working for her degree. He’d been stupid to join the police academy straight outta Crystal Prep, but he’d hadn’t wanted to waste time on college when it wasn’t required.
But for some reason he couldn’t fathom his direct superior hated him, it had only taken a month for his first promotion and two weeks later he was demoted. He’d worked himself to the bone and managed to get promoted again after a year, now two months later a simple error on his latest report on one of the gangs active in the city had gotten the S.W.A.T. Captain a stay in the hospital, and he’d been demoted again.
Now he was stuck doing parking meter duty for a few weeks and it’d probably take him two or three years this time to get promoted again. Add that Twilight was home sick for the past two days and that he’d needed the money for the doctors' appointment, and things had gone to shit. He tried not to use the stipends their parents sent them monthly in a silent bid to be independent but family came first, he’d have to cave this time.
As he turned the corner into the business section of the city he started looking for timed out parking meters. An hour later, and he had already written out ten tickets and was quickly becoming bored.
“C’mon something has to happen soon or my brains gonna melt from boredom.”
That’s when he spotted a girl around Twilight’s age walking around on the streets. ‘What’s that girl doing outta class? Well I can’t let her go now that I spotted her.’.
“Hey girl, what are you skipping school!” you yell out while walking towards her, no reason to startle her.
She turns to you before taking off toward the alleys, well now maybe you should have been nearer before calling her out. So off you go chasing a girl your sister’s age into an alley, and holy shit is she floating!
Now a normal person would’ve stopped and gawked but well you knew weird shit can happen, such as when Twilight built a working jet-pack and brained herself on the ceiling when she was six. Or when your parents sent home the occasional cursed item that had to get sanctified and then locked away, just in case it didn’t stick. So you were used to the fantastical already, it’s why you became a cop, to get away from it for a bit each day.
But now, magic or mad science has invaded your NORMAL day job….
Well you weren’t letting it have the last laugh today, vaulting over the fence you continued the chase. When she blasted the cement a few feet in front of you to liquid, you just jumped over it.
When she started floating again you were ready, you unsheathed your stun gun and aimed for her back. You missed and hit her leg, but she was down at least, now all you had to do was take her to the nearest school to see where she belonged and take her there.
Of course that’s when another teen, this time male, jumped from the roof nearby and ripped the nodes off the girls leg and held the still sparking nodes in his hand. Well this wasn’t good.
Ejecting the current round form your stun gun for a new one you took stock of the situation.
One pissed of boy capable of surviving a four story jump to the ground, and capable of holding an electric node that would knock out a guy twice his size and muscle mass.
A knocked out magic using girl who could wake up any second.
Yourself a bored cop who didn’t want to deal with the fantastical.
Well not as if you could actually win here, but surrendering to something magical or superhuman wasn’t in your nature.
Staring into the teens eyes you readied your stun gun.
And suddenly the world was blurred as you found yourself thrown into a wall, moving on instinct you avoided the kids follow-up kick and jammed your stun gun into his inner thigh. He flinches for a second allowing you to move away and reload, once he rips the cords out you slam your weapon into his neck and pull the trigger. He convulses for a few seconds as you eject and then load your final cartridge, before slamming it into his back and fire off your last shot.
As he falls to his knees and you use the moment to slam your now empty gun to the back of his head. Only for him to dodge and hit your chest with donkey kick, you feel yourself fly before you hit the wall.
You force yourself out of your dazed state in time to see the teen had jumped to the roofs and run away with the girl in his arms.
“Dammit, I just know this is gonna bite me in the ass later.” you groan as you pick yourself up. You take out your phone and notice your lunch break was starting soon, you also had to take something home for Twilight.
“Looks like it’s Chinese takeout time, some ginseng soup should help Twily get better.”
And with that you limp back to your car.

Damn that cop got you good, you thought the initial throw would daze him longer, but he surprised you with that shot to your leg. That combo afterward would’ve knocked you out if he’d connected with that final hit.
'You got lucky' you’d thought he wouldn’t stand a chance and underestimated him, you wouldn’t next time.
You stopped on a roof just a few jumps off the warehouse you’d been living in and duck behind an air unit, the reason? There’s a lot of guys ripping through it and the other warehouses, and they were packing a lot of guns. Enough to make even you weary, setting Sunset down you creep to the edge of the roof and take a closer look.
There had to be at least a hundred guys down there, all armed with rifles and shotguns. Whatever had happened had put them on the warpath.
It wasn’t safe here.
But where could you go?
Getting back to Sunset, you pick her up and start jumping away. You eventually end up in what you believe is a residential sector in front of a large purple house. It looks liked it hadn’t had any decent repair done in years. So finding a window near the roof you slip into the attic and lay out your bedroll for Sunset to rest on.
After you lay her down you decide to take a nap to help your body recover from the shock damage that been done to it, as you’re about to close your eyes you felt something heavy hit the back of your head. Before you pass out you catch a glimpse of a sick looking purple haired girl holding a baseball bat with rockets attached to it.
