For Madness, Comes a Price
Chapter 3- Darkness
Previous ChapterNext ChapterDarkness had soon fell over the sunny blue sky, the stars gently poked out from behind the clouds and the sounds of howling tinderwolves had filled the forest that Solitaire was running through, the thumps of her hooves pounding on the ground had disturbed some of the creatures that lived there. Tears was streaming down her cheeks with the wind blowing against her ears causing its slight howling, each thump of her hooves left the mark of its tips dug into the rich soil. Though, through the mixed feelings in her heart, her mind was filled with rage, of which she could not control or convey in the ways she would have liked. It was already causing the pain of the restless demon to pierce its influence onto her body, her purple coat slowly turning grey, her own will was broken through by its sheer force but her determination of her mind was not going to let it take over her body once more.
Her small pants of her breath and her sniffled crying was slowly becoming quiet as she had found herself stopping in front of the old princesses broken down and cracked grey castle. Its walls had ivy and other sorts of plants growing and twining themselves against the grey stones that helped it to stand tall, Solitaire knew the castle had seen better days.
Taking a deep breath as she closed her eyes and focused on her power to her horn as it glowed a darkened blue shine of which, was the very same color of her eyes. Soon her anger had got the better of her making her swing her head forward and shouting into the clearing of the dimly lit forest.
"So you want to talk demon! Let's talk!" she growled, casting the blackness sphere from her horn and onto the ground, the faint glowing green chains that bounded the demon to the the heart of the purple mare that stood in front of it. The very sound of the chains made Solitaires hooves dig into the ground. Oh how she hated it when she had to talk to the demon that had ruined her life that held her so strong, how she was welcomed from all the lands of the Wonder she had once called her home.
The blackish grey demon laughed, spreading its tainted blue wings rattling the chains that held her. Its dark glowing eyes peered at the unicorn that had casted her out of her prison into the fresh damp air of the forest, and the soft wet grassy ground to pillow her fall, the blackness of her ghostly like form drifted into the air lick smokey grey flames. It did not crackle like a fire though it was too weakened to show its real form making her look like a hideous darkened spirit of the underworld.
Solitaire knew what she was doing was dangerous but she could easily seal away its powers from harming her granting she too sealed one of her own in return of its power which she didn't want to resort to.
"Ahhh it feels so good to be out again..." The greyish cloud looked at the purple figure that stood before her and smiled with a sort of dreamish gaze, before shaking its head, rattling the chains that bounded her "Oh.. these things... what a sensible young mare,"
It appeared to be unhappy about it's confines of the green metallic, yet ghostly chains that binded it so she wouldn't escape. Taking small deep breaths the gastly grey cloud lowered itself to the ground and reshaped itself into an alicorn, stand on all fours. The blue-ish tinted grey wings still released its smoke as they stood spread in front of Solitaire who was trying to stop herself from shaking and cowering at the demons appearance, though her legs nearly gave way to the spell she cast. With much of her strength spent she had decided to sit down to concile her weakness away from the demon, though it didn't matter much to it. She was already weak enough for the monster to take over her when she was most vulnerable, it caused her great dismay when the silence was soon broken with the demon hissing softly within its tone, calling her name.
"What is it demon? I was enjoying the peace of the silence, until you broke it" She spat, refusing to look at the monster and continued to stare at the blades of grass she was sat near, fascinated at the different patterns that never looked the same as the blades of grass at home. Home. What was she thinking? She had no home now, though the teapot house she confined herself to within this world was not much of a home to her.
A certain snap of jaws clamped together as the demon began to speak, keeping a keen eye on the pony before her studying her movements and trying to peer into the pony's mind. "Your the one to ask the questions Oh, Exiled One"
The words rang through Solitaire's head as her ears flickered to the back of her head causing the hood to fall and the light to shine on her face. She stifled herself from cursing at the clouded alicorn and lifted her head. Her mind raced with lots of questions but she never knew the answers to them, let alone dared to ask the demon she was forced to share her body with. Returning her gaze to the blades of grass she had noticed she was pulling them from the ground with her forehoof.
"You took over my body again while I was sleeping and caused quite some damage to my friends..." She spoke calmly though she was boiling with rage, continuing her picking at the grass and trying to fix them together in a puzzle which she had seemed to often do when lost in thought.
"So what if I did? Its not like you need them, you much of a monster yourself, you know. It's like-"
"Do not compare me to you and say that we are alike!" Solitaire spat, her lips curling to show her long white fangs "I am nothing like you! Your the one who caused me to be in this mess in the first place... If only you had stayed in the confines of your prison! All of this would have never happened in the first place! I never wished to be confined in such a strange world with a monster to share my body, in which it- No, you can still cause harm to the ponies around me! And yet here we are."
She stood up shakily, brushing off the cold chill that had suddenly dawned upon her, her mind filled with rage though she had been accustomed to it for at least five years. It had been a part of a new thing when her father had told her the truth about the attacks in Wonderland and then casted her to Equestria when she had failed to run away from him and his few commanders of his army. Even her father, the only one she could call family disowned her. She had no family now, unless she could count Minty as her family now. Could she? Now there's a thought that had never crossed her mind before. The rattling of chains behind her had freed her from her thoughts and her eyes soon trailed to look at the demon once more.
"Tut tut, that's no way to speak to an elder, let alone how you used to speak. Now where has that cheery personality gone to?" The Demon mocked teasingly, trying to earn another reaction from her, only to see that the purple mares tail had swished from under the cape she was wearing as if she was hiding her own body from the world.
"Do, not mock me Demon." The words trailed out of Solitaire's mouth before she even thought about them, her eyes fixed to the alicorns dark blue eyes as she stood her ground. Her personality that she bore with such pride had dissipated into nothing but thin air. The only time she used what was once her joy and her fun was now turned into a mask to protect herself from ponies and creatures alike finding about who she really was and the dark secrets she was hiding. There was little happiness she could draw out of her life now, if it wasn't for that she would have let her father kill her back then.
For a short while the was a foreboding silence around the two figures that stood within the courtyard of the broken castle. They stared with not an expression on their faces, their eyes fixated on one another before the demon broke the silence that held them in their place.
"Your often lost in your own thoughts now. Not a lot of fun now are you, She-who-once-was-the-new-Mad-Hatter" The grey alicorn floated in the air now staring at the night sky, bored with the stare down. It appeared that the bottom half of it's body had disappeared from sight apart from the small grey wave that resided below it.
"Such a title could have never been accomplished by the hooves of a..." She dared not to say it pausing for a second and then continued "Good Riddiance I say." Solitaire replied mourning the loss of her most treasured memory when she had found out her cutie mark. The look on her mothers face cause her much joy only to have it taken from her within an instant as another one of her 'attacks' happened in front of the entire city of Cardell. Her birthplace. It was the start of her downfall when she had found her mother laying in front of her, unmoving and soaked in blood when she had awoken from the attack. The last thing she remembered was looking down at her own bloodied hooves and crying out in a terrified painful cry.
She spent the rest of the months nights of nightmares seeing the mangled twisted corpse of her mother in front of her shouting in a twisted demonic voice saying "It's your fault! All your fault! You monster! You did this to me!"
Solitaire shuddered at the thought and began to breathe deeply, she always seemed to remember that dream so well as if it etched it within her memory that she was never able to forget.
"Such a painful memory you have to deal with.. It is a shame about Ismirelda Alicen" The creature spoke to her as if she had read her mind, but it had only studied the reactions she had produced in front of the demons presence.
That was the breaking point of Solitaire she screamed into the air, tears running down her cheeks, sickened with rage and guilt "ENOUGH!" with that she had used the last of her strength to confine the demon back in her body and stripped of it's voice temporarily. Her body collapsing into the ground as she screamed and writhed from the pain that it had caused her.
The shrieks and screams echoed through the forest as it lasted for several hours, causing the animals in the forest to scatter and shout in fright. Small hardened pants followed afterward coming from the pony that had cause the noise in the first place. Steadily she rose up and onto her hooves, covered in cuts and soft faint bruises she had managed to harm upon her forehooves and two long scratches down the right side of her body down to her flank due to the thorn bushes where she had collapsed against. Her body still unsteady as the cuts ached with a pinching sensation, trickled with the red liquid down onto the grass. She wasn't bleeding heavily or majorly although they looked like she took a nasty fall, but she slowly made her way back to Ponyville with her cape over her face that was covered in tear stains down to her chin.
