Chapters My mother told me once that you need to finish an existing thing if you want to start a new one. And this is more than true. When the ray hit me, it was like a door closing. I haven't seen or heard anything after that. I couldn't even think. It was complete darkness.
In a very random moment, I suddenly woke up. I don't even know how much time has passed since I've got disconnected from my world. I guess that nopony knows the answer to this question. It could have happened right after I stopped to feel anything or maybe after a couple of moons.
I woke up, but not as I've expected. I wasn't in Equestria. I was on a planet called Earth. It's probably very far from Equestria because I have never heard of this planet before. I wasn't even at my normal age. I was a newborn baby with a length of 1.73 feet and a weight of 8 pounds. I was acting like any other entirely usual baby. I knew nothing about my past.
My mother — the one from the Earth — was a stunning woman. She had a long brown hair and beautiful blue eyes, just like my Equestrian mom had. Her name was Jennifer. She looked deeply into my eyes and called me Heather. I was a newborn baby with red hair.
My first two years were passing quickly. I've learned to talk in English, to walk and everything else I needed to know. My life in that family was as good as the life I had with my parents in Equestria. We lived in a beautiful city called New York and had a lovely house with two rooms, a bathroom, a kitchen and a huge living room. The latter was the place where I've learned to walk.
I remember having a bath when I asked my mom what's the reason of that red skein I had on the upper part of my legs. I was only three years old then; I knew nothing about ponies, cutie marks and anything else related to Equestria. That red skein from my leg was my cutie mark — the only thing that connected me to Equestria.
"Mom! What is this?" I asked surprisingly and pointed to the skein. It was the first time when I asked my mother about it. She wasn't sure what to say. She didn't even know what it exactly was.
"It's something that shows you're special. Few humans have something like this on their legs. Perhaps you're the only one," she said and smiled at me. Every time she smiled I felt something I'm unable to describe. It was like something that touched my soul.
"Why do I have to be different?" I continued asking the next question. At that time, I thought that being different is something bad. I didn't know that "unusual" and "bad" are two things which are not related to each other at all. I was looking quite a bit disappointed to my mother.
"Aww, dearie. Don't worry. Being different doesn't mean that others dislike you or are not respecting you. Being different is something unique, something you need to be proud of," she said and held me in her arms. I loved to stay between the arms of my parents. It was the greatest feeling I had at that time.
When I was little, I had so many questions about the world. I was interested in everything. I've fully learned to read in English when I was five years old. I've also learned to write after a year or a bit more. I was only six years old, and I was reading and writing like a 14 years old student. My mom and dad always knew that I'm special. But they didn't know the actual reason of my talentedness.
The time went quickly, and I've reached the milestone of my life's timeline where I had to go to school for the first time. I was seven years old, and I felt ready to learn new things. The school was a huge building where anypony could have got lost easily. I've got used to my second home very quickly.
We haven't learned anything in the first two days, but we started to have a deeper look into the subjects on the third day. I was the only student who thought that school is easy, and it has no difficulties. Every single day, I've got ready with my homework in only a few minutes, and I was very productive at school. I had many great friends whom I used to help with their homework. We've shared many things between ourselves and visited each other very often. However, Susan visited me most often. We used to play video games on my gaming console. Susan was my best friend in the human world.
On the third week of the second semester, the teacher asked us: "How much is four plus three?" Everybody raised their hand, but Samantha, another friend of mine, was lucky to reply.
"It's seven," she said, and the teacher was pleased.
"Great, now who knows how much is ten minus six?" She asked and almost everybody raised their hand.
"It's four," Tony said.
"Excellent!" The teacher said. After some seconds of thinking, she wanted to prank us with something we haven't learned so far. "How much does twenty-five multiply twelve?" She asked and grinned.
Nobody knew the answer. Nobody, but me. I have no idea how I knew the result of the calculation. "It's three hundred and twelve," I said, and the whole class stared at me. The teacher was very surprised and looked at me with huge eyes.
"Heather, how did you know that?" She asked, and I wasn't sure what to reply.
"I don't know. I just had it in my brain," I replied. She kept asking me more questions that were difficult for my classmates, and I knew the answer to all of them. She couldn't understand how I can own such intelligence.
On that afternoon, she called my mother and told her everything about what happened on that day. My mom was also surprised, yet she seemed like she knew something about me.
"The teacher asked if they should move you to a bigger class. Your intelligence is remarkable and something that you're lucky to be gifted with; yet I'm not sure if your brain will be able to support those courses. They are harder than the actual ones," she said and waited for my reply.
"Does that mean that I will be in a separate class, without my friends?" I asked and looked at my mother's beautiful face with a worried look.
"Yes, you and your friends will be in different classes," she replied.
"But I want to be together with my friends!" I exclaimed. "I have a very good time with my friends, and I don't want to leave them. A true friend would never leave you, regardless of what's happening."
"You don't need to move to another class if you don't want," she replied and hugged me. "I understand you perfectly, dear. I also loved to spend time with my friends when I was at your age."
After some minutes of thinking, I asked my mother something that just popped up in my mind. "Does my intelligence have anything to do with my mark?"
"I don't know, sweetie, but I can tell you that you will have a great future with this intelligence. And no matter what way you want to follow in this world, keep dreaming, my child. Your dreams will come true if you will fight for them. I know you can do everything you want," she said and at that moment, I felt something very unusual. I felt like she said this already, but I was sure that she didn't. The last three sentences were very familiar to me.
The time passed quickly, and we've reached the year when I started to study at a high school. It was never too hard to me and sometimes even those from the bigger classes were asking for my help.
It was October 5, 2017, a very sunny day with gentle, joyful clouds. Susan and I were going home from school. She was very excited to see a movie in the cinema next day.
"I can't wait to see the movie finally! It was announced back in 2015, and I can't believe it's already here. I've bought you a ticket, too. I'm sure you will like it!" She said, but I didn't even know what movie was that.
"What movie are you exactly talking about?" I asked.
"It's called «My Little Pony: The Movie» and it's based on the animated show with a similar name," she replied.
"I've heard about something with this name. Thanks so much for the ticket! I'll join, just reach me when you go!" I said and went to my house.
As the time went, I was getting more and more interested in the mark from my body. On the next day, my parents were not at home because they had to go to a business meeting, so I decided to lurk between my birth documents. Luckily, I knew where my parents had placed those papers, and I've found many interesting things.
"Unknown genetic structure elements? Perfect DNA? Ten times more neurons than of a typical baby? This is... scary," I thought, and I kept the documents at me and placed them in my pocket.
I had to collect all the other papers and put them back to their place because Susan was ringing at the door. I haven't even noticed how quickly the time went — it was already the time to go to the movie theater.
"I will leave a note on the fridge, so my parents will know that I'm already at the cinema when they come home," I told her.
"Okie Dokie, Loki!" She said, and I was stopping for a moment. I was sure that I have heard that before.
I left the note on our fridge and went out of my house, ready to see something great. It was a sunny day, just like the day before, but with a little more clouds. After we have arrived in the cinema, I was amazed how many people came to see this movie.
The movie has just started. Everybody was silent and enjoyed it. While I was watching the movie, I wondered why did I avoid to watch the show itself, because the film turned out excellent. I also felt something inside of me. Kind of like a sentiment that pushed me to go to the world of Equestria. Even the name "Equestria" sounded familiar and like something that belongs to my soul.
Everything was alright until a moment. That moment when I've seen and recognized Twinkleshine, Lemon Hearts, Moon Dancer, and Minuette. That was the moment when everything was clear and I've remembered about everything. I was looking frightened, just like somebody who saw a ghost.
"Are you okay?" Susan asked with a quiet voice.
"Y-y-yes, I... I... Just have to go... to the bathroom." I said with a disheveled voice and ran out of the hall right to the bathroom. I was never as scared as in that moment. I also remembered about the issue with Abomineigh and her evil plans; I just hoped that the princesses could defeat her. I wasn't sure what to do now or how could I go back to Equestria. Besides this, I had many thoughts in my brain. "What could've happened to my dear friends? To whom and how can I tell everything? They would call me crazy. I finally have a family again and many friends. Should I stay here? What would my Equestrian friends think about me? Which world should I choose?"
I was crushed. This was the hardest decision of my life. It's not easy to have a life where you are dragged by two different worlds if you love somebody in both of them. "I don't even know how could I go home or if I will ever see my friends again," I said and didn't want to go anywhere. I was staying in the bathroom for a quite long time and cried. I couldn't stop crying. My soul felt like a destroyed building which pieces have been falling continuously.
I'm not sure how much time I've spent in the bathroom, but I heard a sudden knocking.
"Heather? Are you alright?" It was Susan who had talked from the other side of the door. I wasn't sure if I should tell her about anything. I didn't want to be told a mentally ill by my best friend, even though I was sure she wouldn't do that. "Heather, please, say something!"
"I'm here!" I said after I threw my fears away and went out of the bathroom.
"What happened to you? Why did you stay that long there? I was so worried!" She asked and looked at me with enormous eyes. It was quite noticeable that I've cried a lot.
"Well, okay. I will explain everything. But please, don't call me crazy. Everything I say is true," I said, and she looked at me with a very confused looking.
"Don't worry; I won't!" Her confused looking turned in a smile quickly.
After some creepy seconds of deep silence, I found the right words. "My name is not Heather." Now the confused looking came back on my friend's face. "My name is Desire Redskein."
"That would be most likely the name of a pony from Equestria," she replied.
"Exactly," I said with a serious and determined voice. "I was a pony before. We had a strong villain called Abomineigh, who've tried to take over Equestria, and the princesses have sought to stop her. The united rays have hit me, and I was reborn as a child here, on the Earth. I know nothing about my friends and my home, in general." ...and I started to cry. But seriously, who wouldn't do that in such a terrible situation? Remembering what happened years ago and not knowing anything about your home that could've been destroyed in the meantime; and the friends who could've been enslaved or even murdered while you live a beautiful life on another planet, from another galaxy... maybe from another universe — there is a reason to cry.
"Wow. Just wow. That was kind of unexpected," Susan said and I wasn't sure if she believed what I said or not.
"You don't believe me, right?" I asked even though I was sure that she didn't.
"We know each other for a long time, and you've never lied to me, so I don't think that you're a liar, even if the things you say are quite unbelievable," she replied, and I calmed myself down a bit.
"I'm a unicorn and... wait..." I said and took a moment to think. "I'm a unicorn... That means I have magic. If I have magic, I could use it!" I realized. "But... Since I'm a human, I don't have a horn." And only in a fraction of a second, my smile turned into a sad face. "But I have a cutie mark. Seriously. If you don't believe me, we could go home after the movie, and I will show you some documents from my birth that will prove this. I have a perfect DNA - one that can't be compared to any human's."
"I have no words. That is kinda scary," she replied.
"Anyway, let's continue watching the movie before it ends," I said, and both of us went back to the biggest place of the movie theater — the place where the magic began.
I still remember my Equestrian mother telling me that life will always bring big challenges to everypony, but if you really want, you can take over them; how difficult is to do so only depends on how much you want to win the battle. Telling my best friend about my discovery was only the first stage of the challenge. Deciding what to do was the hardest and also the most important stage.
After the movie was finished, Susan and I were going back to my house. I hoped my parents were not coming home earlier on that day so that I could show her the documents. Luckily, they weren't.
"We need to act quickly before my... parents come home. They don't like when I'm lurking between their stuff," I said and ran to the folder where the DNA analysis, as well as the other related documents, were located. After I had found all the documents, I showed them to Susan. "See? Perfect DNA. Inexplicable sign on the child's body. And all of these are from my birth."
"Absolutely amazing," she said and couldn't believe what she reads. "Omigosh! I'm talking to a pony... I mean... a human... pony from Equestria!" She was very excited. "I always thought ponies are not real."
"Well, we are," I said and giggled. "Long time ago, a woman called Bonnie Zacherle found a way to interact with us, but it wasn't the best way. She didn't see us, and she didn't even hear us correctly. She found out much information about us and wrote stories with us on a show for a Californian animation studio. The show was discontinued and later then, another woman called Lauren Faust was visited by Princess Celestia with a message. Her message was to do everything in order to spread more friendship in the life of humans. Lauren decided to make a new generation of the show started by Bonnie Zacherle, now with a deeper message: friendship is magic. At least, this was something we've learned about in the school."
"Wow. I never knew that it was done this way. Lauren's show has a huge reputation and audience. Even if the target was originally the teen girls, the show is also watched by younger and older men," she replied.
"That means she did a fantastic job," I confirmed.
"Yes. But unfortunately, the second season was the last one she was working on. But the other writers are also doing a great job," she said.
"We haven't learned that. I'm proud of both Bonnie and Lauren for their work," I replied and remembered about the decision I have to make. "You know, I don't know what to do now," I said with a sad voice.
"Well, I guess you should continue your everyday life," Susan said and tried to cheer me up.
"But what if Equestria was destroyed? What would Twinkleshine and all my other friends think about me? I never wanted to leave them," I said and continued after a few seconds of silence. "You know, my parents from Equestria died when I was a filly. Here, I have now a new family and new friends, who I don't want to leave. But I would also like to stay with my friends from Equestria."
"Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't know what to say, seriously. You are my best friend, and I understand if you have to go," she replied and smiled.
"Even if I would decide to go home, I would need to find a way to do so. I don't even know how to go back," I said and looked down.
Suddenly, a car honk has been breaking the silence.
"Oh, no! My parents!" I said and placed back the documents I had as quicker as I could. I was lucky to get everything sorted before they came into the house.
"We're here!" My mother said, and I ran to hug my parents.
"I'm so happy that you are here for me... keeping an eye on me every day and doing whatever stays in your powers to make me satisfied. I love you so much!" I said and they looked at me with a weird look because of my sudden and unexpectedly different behavior.
"Are you okay, sweetie?" My mom asked and I was just smiling.
"Of course, I am! There are no problems." ...but I almost started to cry. Seriously, it hurt. Very much. Not knowing where to go because you have somebody you care about is the most painful situation one can ever live. At least, this is my opinion. I'm only telling this from my own experience.
After I finally left my parents to breathe, I went back to Susan, to continue our discussion. She was worried, and I've noticed that she cares about the whole situation and that she kept thinking just to suggest me a good solution. This wasn't the first time when I felt like I'm very lucky because I have such a friend as Susan. She was supporting me every time I needed a shoulder to cry on, just like Twinkleshine, Lemon Hearts, Moon Dancer, and Minuette did back in the time.
"Okay, I'm back now. So, I don't even know how to go back to Equestria. I have no idea what to do!" I said and sighed while I looked at my friend with a worried face.
"Look. We will find a way to go back to Equestria. Somehow we will. And no matter what will happen in the future, you will always remain my best friend and I will always think about you. I will never forget all those moments we've spent together, like the ones when we've helped each other or performed a song together." While she said this, I couldn't listen without shedding a single tear.
"If I will go back somehow and my memories will not vanish, I will never forget you. You are my best friend. You and Twinkleshine will always be," I replied.
"Can you tell me more about your pony self?" She asked, and I started to tell her more things about me.
"I was... am... I don't even know... A red colored unicorn from Canterlot. I've been studying at Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns and I was good at many subjects. Although I was still unable to find my talent and destiny after that. I've tried many things, but none of them seemed to be my special talent. I was like another Cutie Mark Crusader. Speaking of the Crusaders, I've also asked them for some suggestions, but unfortunately, even if they've tried their best, they were unable to help me. After the death of my parents, I've found my happiness in my friends, who always supported me, just like you. Then Abomineigh came, the ray hit me and now I'm here, on the Earth. Shortly, this is my story."
"A very interesting one, I can tell. Don't you think that this was part of your destiny? Maybe this is something that will lead you to your special talent," she replied and then I was thinking. "Do I have a predestined role here, on the Earth? Will this affect Equestria in any way?" These were the thoughts in my mind at that moment.
"I don't know," I replied shortly after a few moments of silence.
"I think, you will also need to talk to your parents. They should also know about this," Susan said.
"They won't believe me, I'm sure."
"Why are you so sure? Those who don't believe in magic will never find it."
"Well, they don't believe in it."
"No matter what would they say, you need to talk to them," Susan tried to encourage me to tell my parents everything about my past life.
I sighed and said "Okay, I will give it a try."
"Great!" She replied and smiled. "I have to go now; it's quite late. See you tomorrow!"
"Goodbye!" I said and waved at my friend. After some minutes of thinking, I continued: "Susan, wait!" and I ran to her.
"What is it?" She asked astonishedly.
I hugged her and said "Thanks so much. For trusting me, for helping me, and for being my friend, in general."
"I'm glad to have such a friend!" She replied and I was fulfilled with emotions.
After Susan went home I was sitting on the couch, thinking about how could I tell my parents about everything. "They also told me that I'm special, and I have unnatural things on my body, my DNA, and brain, so it's possible that they will believe it." I thought and tried to find the perfect words to tell my parents. My mother came into the living room where I was and saw me as I'm thoughtful. She came to me and asked: "Are you alright? You were a bit weird today."
At that moment, I wasn't sure what to think. It was not as I planned and it came so suddenly that I didn't even know what should I tell her. I tried to tell her about my pony self.
"I'm a pony," I said shortly, directly and very cowardly. "Excellent. Good idea, Desire. The best way to tell her," I thought ironically.
"Oh, really?" My mother asked surprisedly.
"Yes, and I can prove you. You know that mark from my body? Well, that's my cutie mark," I replied with a monotone voice.
"Cutie mark?" She asked but was pretty confused.
"Yes. I will tell you everything. I'm a red unicorn pony from Canterlot and my name is Desire Redskein. When Abomineigh, a powerful villain has been fighting with the princesses, I was unlucky to be hit by a ray which teleported me to the Earth where I've been reborn as a child. Your child. At that moment, I remembered nothing about my home until I saw my friends on the My Little Pony movie."
My mother thought it was only my imagination that showed her presence in the wrong place at the wrong time. "So let me guess that the movie was great," she tried to change the subject.
"Yes, it was, but this isn't what I'm talking about," I replied. "Look, mom, I know it's hard to believe this, but it's true. We, ponies, do exist! And I am a pony. I was once," I continued with a sad look. "You know, my parents from Equestria are dead. I'm so happy to have parents again, but my friends from Equestria also need me. I need them. I need both of you. I don't know what to do. Even if I would choose not to stay in this world, I would need to find a way to go to Equestria."
"Is Equestria the town where ponies live?" She asked.
"Yeah, this is the name given to the world where we live and where I lived. I hope you trust me, mom; I'm talking very seriously."
"It's hard to believe, dearie."
"I know about the documents from my birth. Sorry for lurking between your documents, but I wanted to know more about my mark, and I thought I will find something between them. And I did. I have a DNA structure that's entirely different and more complex than human DNAs'. Isn't this enough proof?"
"I must say that the birth of a child with an entirely different DNA structure is not a usual thing. Doctors didn't have an explanation, either. But how does this make you a pony? Why are you so sure about that?"
"My memories. I recognized all my friends from the movie: Twinkleshine, Lemon Hearts, Moon Dancer, and Minuette. I remembered about everything from my past. I have a cutie mark on my body! This is why I'm so sure," I said and started to cry. "I'm in a such a difficult situation now. What should I do?"
"I love you, Heathy!" She said and held me between her arms. "I understand you. And I believe you, seriously."
"I love you too, mom. And thanks." After some seconds of silent crying, I continued. "Mom! Did you know that sometimes you say things that my Equestrian mother also said? And always when you did, I felt something inside of me."
"Really? Well, I guess I'm probably the perfect doppelgänger of your pony mother. I feel sorry for your loss."
"Thanks. My friends were always supporting me in the hard times, and even if I couldn't find my special talent, they kept encouraging me."
"Special talent?" My mother interrupted me.
"Yes. Each pony is gifted with a special talent, that is mostly reflected by their cutie mark. Despite the cutie marks are gathered after a pony finds their special talent, I've got mine when I was born, and unfortunately, my mark is not leading me to any clue. But how could it? It's a skein. But now, I'm here on another planet from another galaxy, and I don't even know if my beautiful world still exists, and even if it does, I'm not sure if it's still like how it was when I've seen it for the last time. I hope my friends are alright."
"I understand you. Look, I don't know what should I say... or what could I say after hearing all of these, but I'm sure that the only way to answer your questions is to go back to your home. You're my child, and I love you. And I want only the best for you, even if it means that I should let you go."
"You're the best second mother!" I said and wept on the shoulders of my mom. After some minutes, I continued to speak. "But even if I would like to go home, I don't know how. Besides this, I don't want to leave you and my friends from Earth. I care about all of you, but in the meantime, I also care about my friends from Equestria. I don't know what to do."
"You will know. I'm sure that you will make the right decision."
It was late, so I went to my bedroom to sleep, but I couldn't. There were so many thoughts in my head. I still couldn't believe that my mom believed me. It was as unexpected as my coming to the Earth. I wished to have an answer to all my questions. For a very little moment, I thought my mother still doesn't believe me entirely and still has some doubts.
After that, I was thinking about what my mother from the Earth has told me. "I need to take the right decision. The only way I can do this is to argue about both worlds so that I will find their advantages and disadvantages." I thought and turned on the light from my nightstand to write them down on paper.
Life puts many difficult situations in the life of everypony. And I'm not telling this only because my mother said so, but also because I've experienced it. But if these wouldn't come, life wouldn't be that simple and we would think it's adventureless or maybe even worthless.
On that night, I started to write down everything I thought about both worlds. I started with Equestria, my dear home. It's a stunning, glorious place where everypony lives in happiness, bliss, and joy. The fresh, unpolluted air, the crystal-like water, the clean, tasty and lustrous fruits, and vegetables — practically everything is marvelous. It's a place where true, long-lasting friendships are born. A place where everypony can find their true friends and enjoy the magic of the magnificent friendship. A place where I can see and live with my old great friends again; where I can continue searching for my talent. The only problem with Equestria is that I can't see my mother and father again, neither my friends from the Earth.
I've dealt with Equestria quickly. It was the turn of the Earth to analyze. It took me longer than I initially thought. But it was most probably because I had to analyze much more things than for Equestria. When I did these analyses, I was keeping in mind many qualities of the Earth, especially starting from New York and the other cities around me.
"Hmm... Where should I start? Earth is as beautiful as Equestria. It's the world where nature is absolutely gorgeous. Although it's also very noisy in the town. People are unable to rest for a single second. Not only that they are too busy to spend more time with others - like their family, friends or relatives, but they are also too busy to think. Day by day, things are getting more and more messy. I would like if people would pay more attention to what's around them, rather than only focusing on work and other duties. Sooner or later the entire nature will be replaced by buildings.
Nature is a necessary thing for every human, but they keep destroying the place that was given to them. They seem to be too blind to notice that by doing this, they are putting in danger the life of the next generations. Not only destroying the beautifulness of the world but polluting it makes the things look even worse. The air we breathe is not clean, and this is just another thing that will not let our life last longer.
What's the meaning of life anyway? People keep asking this question all the time, and I hope I will find be able to answer it after I finish this comparison. But seriously, what is it? And how could we find any explanation if things are going just in the wrong way?
When I was in Equestria, I didn't know the actual meaning of murdering and violence. Here I learned the notion of both of them. This is the only thing I see in the news. This man killed that man, this son killed his father, and vice versa. Seriously, is this the world we want to live in? The world where anybody can get killed easily even by the people who are the closest to their heart? What's going on with humans? There was a terrorist attack not so long time ago where hundreds of people died. Do we, ordinary people need to live in such a disaster?
Murdering isn't the only thing. Stealing is another. Why does one not feel pleased with everything they have? They were gifted with something that is more important than anything: life. Why do they need to feel envy on somebody just because they have something more? Others don't even have the things they already possess. Why do they take something from someone else? This can lead only to worse things, and people are unable to see this. And stealing is not only related to physical things. People also take the intellectual properties of other people. I have an artist friend who was pissed off because somebody stole her artwork. But these are not the only things that people steal. People also learned to steal people, their position, their feelings, their everything.
Why do all of these happen? Because of one thing that is useless: money . It's just a piece of paper. Nothing else. And there are some more valuable things that get destroyed for it: lives, properties, families, and friendships. These do have a value. A big one. But money doesn't.
I'm starting to realize that true friendship has estranged among the humans. They haven't learned anything from Lauren. Maybe because not everybody watches her show. It's not even about watching; it's more about seeing. There are people who watch and don't see, people who hear but don't listen. They always try to find something completely different than what are they supposed to notice.
This world is one with so many great things. Sometimes I'm wondering about how many beautiful things the humans have done. But unfortunately, they also created things which are not used for good reasons, but for destroying and murdering. I'm just unable to understand why. Therefore, I consider this world as a wrong place and I feel like I should do something to make a change. I just feel it inside of me, like it's something destined for me. I feel like I shouldn't just sit here and watch while people keep destroying our planet and every living thing on it.
But who would listen to me? Other people have done this already. How can I be different? I'm just a usual... almost usual... unusual human, but I'm still a human. Humans don't listen to humans. Humans don't listen to anything. They only listen to themselves and their wallet. Not all of them, but the majority."
"What should I do?" I sighed.
Every little thought I had made me feel sadder and sadder. I felt like there's no reason to smile, nor to live. It was the first time when I was depressed. I couldn't find my place in the world, so I tried to run from it.
I went back to my bed, but I was still unable to sleep. I had so many thoughts that made me feel upset.
"What would Princess Celestia suggest in this situation?" I kept asking myself, but couldn't find any answer. I was blocked - the events fromt the last day were way too much for me. "Isn't it enough that I have to make this huge decision in my life? Why is something just pushing me to do something... to make a change?"
I know that I'm talking way too much about my mother and what she used to say when I was a little filly, but everything she said gave me strength, motivation and always helped me in the hard times, and I feel like I should share all these thoughts. I had to make many important decisions in my life, and my mother always told me that my heart will always take the right decision; I only need to listen to what it says.
In that night, after I summarized everything related to Equestria, Earth, ponies, humans and societies, I was sure I need to make a change - to make this planet a better place for everybody. Even if my attempts sometimes fail or are just not enough, every little bit matters.
"I just wish somebody would be here... Somebody to whom I could tell everything and could help me with my... mission," I said while I lifted my head up and watched the stars.
When I was a filly, I used to wish upon stars. I loved to do that with my parents, and I would do anything to get all of those moments back. My life was so great and joyful back then that I can't even describe with my vocabulary. I still remember how my mom used to sing to me at certain nights, under the stars and Luna's bright moon. I think I also remember the lyrics she sang.
Joyful twinkles, hear my voice
All is bright, so let's rejoice!
Everything I've wished for
Is here, I won't ask for more.
My wishes, my desires,
All I needed and required,
Is already here, in my heart
And nothing can pick them apart!
Yes, it looks like I still remember a part of it. Her voice was so beautiful that I always wanted her to sing more and more. I'm not very good at singing myself, but if it's needed, I also sing.
So, as I've mentioned previously, I used to wish upon stars when I was a young filly. As the time passed, I started to think more about my destiny, and always wished to know it. But unfortunately, I never got to know it. I slowly started to lose my belief in the magic of the stars and didn't wish upon them anymore.
For some reason, this night was different. After so many years, I finally wished upon a star. I haven't wished to go back to Equestria, even though I really wanted to. Something inside me kept pushing me to let my voice be heard.
"I want to be the change I want to see in the humans. To make the world a better place. To replace sadness with laughter and happiness. To spread the powerful message of friendship, and all its elements - kindness, generosity, loyalty, honesty, laughter, and most importantly, its essence: magic. I want to do this. I wish, I pray, I hope." I said and in the moment when I wanted to go back to sleep, I saw a star sparkling very brightly, and falling down after a few seconds. "I hope I will always take the right decisions."
A few minutes later, I went back to sleep. Since I made my wish, I was finally free of many thoughts and be able to sleep.
On that night, I had my first dream involving Equestria, ponies, and my Equestrian mom. Although, this dream was way different than the ones I had before in both worlds. I didn't only see and hear what happened, but I also felt it, like it's real; like it's something between the real world and the world of dreams. A sort of portal.
"Hello, my sweet Desire!" My Equestrian mom called me with the echoic voice of a spirit. In my dreams, she always had her natural voice.
I was very terrified, yet I also felt like she is here to protect me, to help me walk my path. After a few seconds of silence, when only the sound of a wind could have been heard, I started to reply with a trembling voice: "Mom! Is that you?"
"Yes, it's me, and I'm so happy to see you again!" The voice replied.
"Where are you? I can't see you!" I said while I almost started to tear up. I wasn't sure if they are tears of joy or tears asking for help. I believe they were both.
I started to look around when she replied: "You will be unable to see me, but I see every little step you make, my child. I know your situation, your mission, and everything you want to realize in this foreign world. I'm here to help you and give you something that nobody and nopony ever had. I will gift you the power to transform yourself to your pony form and back, whenever you want. Being a unicorn again will give you access to many advantages."
"Really?" I asked surprisingly and really wanted to hug my mother at that moment. "Mom. I know you're in a better place now, but I want you to know that I will always love you, and I will never forget anything you told me, gave me or did for me. You are the best mother I could have ever asked for. Thank you for being by my side, even when I wasn't able to see, hear and feel your kindness and protectiveness! Thank you! Thank you!"
"Walk this path now, Desire. I know you will be able to change many people, give many impressions and make the world a better place. Whenever you want to transform yourself, you only need to make a wish. Just wish, and believe that it will happen," she replied and the winds started to slow down. "Goodbye, my everything!"
"Wait, mom! I have a question!" I shouted, in the hope of getting an answer from her.
"What is it, dearie?" She replied.
"What happened to Equestria after I was abducted? Were the princesses able to stop Abomineigh from getting power? What happened to my friends? I wish I could go back to Equestria, even for a while, just to check out on my friends."
I haven't even finished my sentence when a bright light appeared in front of me. I was very confused. I wasn't sure what's going to happen to me. Am I waking up? Am I being abducted to yet another universe? Why does my mom not respond to me? I had so many questions at that moment. I wasn't sure what to do. I tried backing from the light, but it slowly started surrounding me and approaching me. I closed my eyes and said: "Mom! I love you, and I trust you with anything you have planned!"
A few seconds later, the light reached me, and I started to levitate. I had a very weird, yet pleasant and calm feeling. I kept my eyes closed for a while. Moments later, I felt like there's a ground under me. I was too afraid to open my eyes. Is this the end of my dream? Were I sent somewhere else? Well, both happened. Something tickled my nose. I wasn't sure what it was, but I could have sworn that I've felt this smell before. It was very familiar.
I slowly started to open my eyes. I couldn't believe what I've seen in that moment. It was my house... from Equestria! I was both happy and concerned at that moment. Happy because Equestria is free again and I can meet with my old pony friends again, concerned because I didn't fulfill my mission yet. After going out from my house, I've seen Equestria in its original beauty and magic. In that moment, I completely forgot about Earth, and I felt the happiness of my life. But at the same time, I wasn't sure if this is real or I'm still dreaming. I hoped it was not only a dream.
I walked on the way while looking around. I've seen the beautiful trees, the stunning flowers decorating the green grass, the bright skies and the different kind of playful clouds. I couldn't believe that the same environment I've been part of many years ago could amaze me in such a big way. The mesmerizing song of the birds, the beautiful smile of the ponies walking on the streets and the adorable little animals behind the bushes made this magical moment an unforgettable one.
I was so happy that I hugged the first pony that crossed my path and told her: "You're an amazing pony, and I'm so happy you're in this beautiful world!" It was a bit awkward, knowing that the other ponies might think that I'm crazy, but I didn't care.
The next thing I had in my mind was that I need to find Twinkleshine and all my other best pony friends. I was trotting as fast as I could until I reached to Twinkleshine's house. I knocked at the door.
After Twinkleshine had opened the door, she was looking at me like I was a ghost. I've never seen her with such huge eyes.
"Hi, Twinkleshine! It's me, Desire. I'm back!" I said and smiled. The emotions started to gush out from me in a very sudden way. I couldn't withhold them any longer and I began to shed more tears of happiness while I ran into the arms of my friend and hugged her tightly. She didn't know how to react, but when I hugged her, she also started to cry and held me close while she said: "Desire! Oh, my old and best friend, Desire! I missed you so, so much!"
"I missed you too!" I said while I closed my eyes and hugged her more. "You won't believe what happened to me!" I said while I looked at her beautiful face. I still couldn't believe I can see her again.
"We all thought you have vanished forever when the ray hit you. I'm so happy you're alive!" She replied. "But how? What happened? How come you're back again?" She asked, and I was sure I need to tell her.
"Do you remember those myths about humans?"
"Yes, I do. Why do you ask?"
"Well, humans are not a myth. They are completely real. They have their own planet in another universe," I said while Twinkleshine looked a bit confused. "I know it's hard to understand, but I will explain you everything. When the ray hit me, I was teleported to the planet of the humans: the planet called Terra. I wasn't teleported as a pony, but as a newborn human baby."
"Woooooow!" She wondered. "That's unbelievable! What happened after that?"
"I didn't know anything about my origins. I was raised as a human, but I always had my cutie mark on my body. I didn't know what that was. Oh, and the myth about Bonnie Zacherle and Lauren Faust, the two women who interacted with Princess Celestia, is entirely true. There's a show called «My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic», created by Lauren Faust as the reboot of the original My Little Pony series made by Bonnie. I remembered about my origins when I watched the feature movie of My Little Pony. It was you, Lemon Hearts, Moon Dancer and Minuette who reminded me about Equestria and everything that connects me to it."
"I can't believe what have you went through!" She just stood and wondered about everything I've said.
I told her everything about my life there, my comparisons, the choice I had to make and my mission.
"I'm not sure what to do now. I honestly feel like I belong there, to make a change, but at the same time, I also want to stay here," I said and sighed. "I wish I could clone myself, at least."
When I said that, Pinkie Pie randomly pop out from a bush and said with a serious, yet funny voice: "Oh, trust me. You don't want that."
Twinkleshine and I looked at her and then at each other and started to giggle.
"Desire," she called my name a few seconds later. "You're my best friend forever, and even if you have to go, I understand you. I'm just happy you're alive and safe. This means more than anything for me. If you will go back to Terra, you will stay in my heart, always. I will never forget all those great times we've spent together. I'm glad I know you." She continued and hugged me tightly. I couldn't help but close my eyes and let my emotions flow.
"A quick question, Twinkleshine." I said.
"Yes?"
"How long was I gone?"
"About 18 weeks or so, I think."
"Oh, dear. There was way more on Terra. It's been 18 years!" I said, and Twinkleshine looked at me with a terrified look. "It's been a while since I lived on that planet," I contiuned, and I was more interested about Equestria in my absence. "I have told enough about what happened to me. Now, it's your turn to tell me what happened here, in Equestria after I've got teleported."
"Well, it was a great battle between the princesses and Abomineigh, but the princesses have managed to defeat her when Applejack, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy found the Mayhem Crystal. She was imprisoned back to the place where she belongs to, and the crystal was hidden by Princess Celestia in her castle."
"I'm so happy you're safe! I wish we could spend some more time together!" I said and looked a bit thoughtful.
Twinkleshine was thinking a bit, and then she spoke with a smiling face. "You know what? Let's do it! Spend some time here, in Ponyville! Relax, be with your old friends and be happy once again! You deserve it."
"I'm not sure about the time differences between Equestria and Terra. I mean, if 18 Equestrian weeks were equal to 18 years on Terra, it could be dangerous to make use of the time in this way. Although, I don't know what did my mother exactly do when she teleported me back here."
"I'm more than sure your mother gave you enough time to spend it with your friends here!" Twinkleshine tried to convince me, and she succeeded.
I've been spending five days with my friends: had picnics, parties and also went to the spa. I was so happy in those five days. I could finally think less about my struggles and enjoy life as it is. Everybody needs a break from all the stress they have day by day.
When the five days passed, it was the time to say goodbye.
"It was the best week of my life, seeing your faces again, spending time with you and knowing that you support me. Thank you all. I honestly want to stay more. I wish there were another way, but my duty is there, in another universe," I said to my friends. I couldn't stop crying in the meantime. Maybe it's me being too emotive, but each goodbye is a painful moment.
"Thank you too, for being here once again, even if for a little while," Lemon Hearts said, and they all came to me and gave me a friendly hug. "We will never forget you!"
"I will never forget you either. You are all carved in my heart. I love you all! Thank you for being my friends!" I said and embraced them all.
"I wish I could go back to the Earth, so I can do what I'm destined to." I made the wish and a large light appeared that looked similar to a portal. "Farewell, my friends! I will miss you!" I said and went back to the Earth.
On the Earth, it was day already. Surprinsigly, it was the same day as the one when my Equestrian mom teleported me to Equestria. I still hope it wasn't only a dream, and it was real. Actually, I know it was real. I can feel it on inside.
Either way, I was able to transform myself to a pony and back, so the meeting with my mother was real. I had my pony form when I went to my mom and greeted her. When she saw me, she was so surprised that she dropped the plate from her hands. She had no words.
"Now do you believe that I am a pony?" I said, but she couldn't say anything, so she only nodded. "Don't worry about the plate; I will fix it!" I said and giggled.
She ran to me and hugged me. I have never hugged a human as a pony, so it was quite an unusual experience, but I liked it.
I told my parents and best friends about my goals—everything I want to realize, and they decided supported me. From then on, I've started to run several campaigns related to kindness, satisfaction, and friendship. I've been traveling a lot, mostly on my own, but my friends also went to different places to spread the seeds of a better world. I was finally happy to have a goal. And do you know what happened? Once, when I had my pony form and walked on a street from New York, my cutie mark started glowing, so I knew I have finally found my destiny. The skein always symbolized the reset of the balance in a world where good feelings have been estranged or vanished completely. This world is called Planet Earth, and I'm happy I can continue my mission here.
If you ever see me somewhere, you should know that I'm very friendly, and I will only give you good bits of advice! My goal is to show the world that there's a better way; to show that things could be better; to show that friendship … is magic!
THE END.
Chapter 1 — The Day That Changed Everything
"Shhh... Keep dreaming my child. Your dreams will come true if you will fight for them. I know you can do everything you want... I have to go now. Sleep well!"
"No, please! Mother! I don't want you to go. Stay with me a little more."
"I'm sorry, Desire... but I can't..." The voice said while it got quieter and quieter.
I woke up. It was noon already. I was shocked that I could sleep that much because I usually can't sleep more than seven hours. I was dreaming about my mother. She was so beautiful and lovely when she was alive. I really miss my parents. We had such a great time together, and I would do everything to live those moments again. I went to the window of my house and looked out.
"I love you, mom and dad" I thought "I wish we could've spend more time together" And then I sighed.
My life was never quite simple, yet I've tried not to lose my happiness and friendliness. I'm a very friendly pony, and I'm good at many things, but unfortunately, my destiny wasn't known at that time. I was searching for something... for something that means everything in the life of each and every pony of Equestria — a special talent. My cutie mark was not showing much. But seriously, what could a skein mean?
Yes, my cutie mark is a skein. I was quite a bit different than the other ponies because I've got my cutie mark right when I was born.
I found my happiness in my friends. They helped me every time I needed, and I did the same to them. I couldn't live without them. But seeing my parents again would have been made me much happier. They were the best parents I could have ever asked for. I felt so broken and empty when I lost them. If my friends weren't here, I would be a lonely, forgotten mare with a pointless life. I don't have any brother or sister, although I'd wished I could have a little brother.
That one day was very different. Not only because I dreamed about my parents again, but I felt that something wrong is going to happen. I hoped it was only a wrong foreboding. Celestia's beautiful sun shone as it used to, nature was also usual, yet I knew something bad is near, and it's hunting me like a wolf hunts a deer. I was feeling uncomfortable, but it might have been because of my dream. Although I didn't understand what's happening — it wasn't the first time I dreamed about my parents.
"Hello there, Desire!" Twinkleshine said and waved to me. Her face was like she is up to prepare something great for today.
"Hi, Twinkleshine! You seem jubilant today. What's up?" I asked her and forgot about the worries I had before. Like I said, my friends always make me feel better.
"I'm very excited to tell you that Twilight will come to Canterlot today!" She said and indeed seemed to be very excited and happy because of the news. And I felt the same way because it was the first time I had the chance to meet the Princess of Friendship. I have only seen her in pictures before, but never met her personally.
"That's great news! I'm honored to meet the Princess." I said. It sounded like the completely unexpected beginning of a new experience, a new adventure.
"You know, I was knocking at your door earlier this morning, but you haven't answered. I hoped that everything is alright," Twinkleshine said and looked a bit worried.
"Yeah, sorry. I was oversleeping today, and I must not have heard your knocking. I'm so sorry," I said and felt a bit ashamed.
"Come on, Desire! You have nothing to be sorry about!" Twinkleshine said. "I'm happy to know that you're alright!" She continued and smiled at me. I felt a bit emotioned. Twinkleshine was my best friend.
"Thank you, Twinkleshine!" I said, but she looked like she hasn't understood what I meant.
"For what?" She asked directly.
"For being such a good friend." I've said and shed some tears of joy. Then we went closer and gave ourselves a friendly hug. "You and all of my friends mean the world to me. I have nopony but you, and I don't know how to thank you all for being my friends," I continued and shed more tears.
"We're always here to you, Desire. That's what friends are for. And a strong friendship like ours can defeat any obstacle," Twinkleshine said with a power of determination and encouragement. I was sure that nothing will go wrong if I have my friends by my side.
"So... When will Twilight arrive?" I asked and tried to withhold my feelings.
"Well, she could be here anytime! Oh, and I almost forgot to tell you that Princess Celestia and Princess Luna will also come here!" Twinkleshine said, and she was even more excited than before.
"Whoa..." I had no words. After a few seconds, I finally found the correct ones. "I can't believe it. Will I have the chance to meet all the princesses at the same time? This must be a dream."
"It isn't, silly filly!" She said and laughed.
"I hope it isn't," I said and felt even more determined than ever. My mom always told me to follow my dreams, so I will always proceed that way.
We went to meet with Moon Dancer, Minuette, and Lemon Hearts so that we could welcome Twilight and the princesses together. I was happier than ever. We went to a restaurant to eat something. Minuette was looking out to the window, to check if Twilight has arrived.
After many minutes spent together, talking about mareish things, Minuette finally noticed Twilight coming to the town.
"She's coming!" She exclaimed, and we all ran out from the restaurant.
At that moment, I wasn't completely sure what have I felt. I was excited at the first time, but after that, I felt like I'm not ready to meet Twilight yet. What if something will go wrong? I had so many thoughts while I was running, but in the end, I've decided not to stress the situation, because stress is just another reason of wrong things.
I was finally there, face to face with the Princess of Friendship. I wasn't worried anymore, and I acted as my real self.
"My name is Desire Redskein. It's an honor to meet you, Your Highness!" I said and bent down.
"You don't need to be that respectful," She said and smiled. "We're now new friends, after all!"
"I'm so happy to meet you, Princess," I said, but I was still quite a bit shy.
"Just call me Twilight, okay?" She asked, and I bowed. I was pretty nervous. Even if I felt ready right before being in front of Twilight, I've lost my courage quickly when it came to talking to her. It just disappeared suddenly, like something I couldn't control. "Tell me more about you," she continued, and I wasn't sure what should I tell her.
"I live alone in a small house from Canterlot, and I'm usually helping my friends whenever I can. I still don't know what my special talent is, and my cutie mark is also not telling me much," I said and sighed. Twilight looked at me with a compassioned look, but then I continued to speak. "But... not having my parents and special talent doesn't mean that I have nopony. I'm happy to have my great friends who are the best friends ever."
"I can't agree more! They have always been great friends, and even if I left them, they didn't forget me," Twilight said and winked to her friends.
"Desire is also a great friend, just like you!" Minuette said to Twilight and I was a bit... well... bashful. "We're waiting for Princess Celestia and Princess Luna now," she continued.
"Oh, right. They should be there soon," Twilight said and started to think. I wasn't sure what is she thinking about, but she kept looking at me, so I knew it was something related to me. "We could ask for Princess Celestia's help to find your destiny," she said and kept looking at me, and I was just staring at her with huge eyes, not knowing what to reply. "What are you good at, anyway?" She asked.
"Well, I'm good at baking, writing, selling, even at accounting, yet I don't know what is destined to me," I replied. I hoped I wasn't too boastful — yes, I'm good at many things but saying it out loud was never my goal.
"Look, the princesses are coming!" Lemon Hearts said and looked to the flying princesses whose landing had just started.
"Welcome, Your Highnesses!" Twinkleshine said. "It's an honor to see you again!" She continued respectfully and looked happy at Princess Celestia.
"It's great that we can meet with all of you, and I'm happy that Twilight invited me to discuss some solutions here," she replied and smiled as a good ruler shall do.
"Princess!" Twilight said and went to Princess Celestia. "There is somepony who can't find her special talent, and her cutie mark is also not telling many details. Could we do anything to help her discover it?" She asked and pointed to me while I was blushing. Are the princesses really talking about ME? I could've never imagined this.
"Oh, that's Desire. She was a wonderful student of mine. Well, all I can say is that the destiny will call each pony as the time flies. We can only encourage them," Princess Celestia replied. "But this is how the things are supposed to work, so you have nothing to be worried about," I understood this and nodded. "I'm sure you will find your unique talent. Sooner or later, each pony will find it. There isn't such thing as a pony not to have a special talent," she said, and I felt better and stronger than before. "Now my sister and I need to talk to Twilight about some things that are going on in Equestria." She looked quite worried when she said this.
"Is everything alright, Princess?" I asked kindly. I was sure that something isn't right.
"I don't want to get any you into this issue; we can't risk anything," she replied. At that moment, I was sure that my suspicions were right. I knew that something wrong would happen today right after I woke up. This reply wasn't enough for me.
"Why or what would you risk?" I asked with a serious looking.
"We just don't want to imply any of you in this situation. Your security is important, and that's why we will handle the situation somehow," she said, but she looked very concerned. I was sure that Equestria is facing a big problem.
"Please! I had a foreboding today, and I want to know why are you so worried. I know something bad is happening," I continued. One of my properties is that if I want to know something, I want to have all the details, especially when it's something that can affect me or any of my friends.
"Should we tell them?" The princess looked at her sister and Twilight, who nodded approvingly. "Alright. We have some problems. Abomineigh, a very powerful mare is about to take over Equestria and make everypony her slaves. Her power is immense: it's even stronger than Nightmare Moon's and King Sombra's might at the same time. Her power increases by each and every magic drained. We need to find a way to destroy her before she drains the magic of all of us," she said, and I was very scared. Not because I could lose my magic, but because I could lose something that means much more: my home and my friends.
"How did she come here?" I asked.
"Abomineigh was the first villain we, princesses, had to defeat. It was a very long time ago when she dominated over Equestria. Even our power couldn't stop her. But we've found the Mayhem Crystal where we have closed her forever. Now, somepony stole the crystal from the castle and tried to acquire power from it. Unfortunately, that somepony didn't know what was in the crystal and freed Abomineigh. She was closed there for thousands of ages," Princess Celestia replied. "We've found that somepony with all of his magic drained. That somepony was King Sombra's brother, most probably. At least, he looked pretty similar to Sombra."
"I hope you will find a solution before it's too late," I said with a trembling voice.
"It's already too late!" A loud voice was speaking and laughed wickedly. It was Abomineigh! She was a dark gray colored mare with black stripes, fire-red eyes and an enormous sharp horn.
"Oh no! Abomineigh is here!" We all yelled and ran from the place. Twinkleshine's leg was stuck in the hole of a log, and she couldn't run anymore. I noticed this and ran to escape her.
The three princesses united their might and tried to defeat the powerful villain. The rays coming from the horn of the princesses were crossing and forming a huge one, aiming to be stronger than Abomineigh's. Her ray was the scariest one I've ever seen. It was white and contoured with a thick black colored border.
Both sides were fighting roughly, but in a fraction of second, both rays were shattering and felt toward Twinkleshine. I was lucky to arrive there before the ray would've reached her. I pushed her away from the way of the ray, and it hit me instead of her.
I remember nothing from that moment. At that moment, I only knew that I completely vanished from Equestria. I was in a dark place, where I saw nothing. "No! Where am I? What happened to me?" My thoughts started to come. I've lost my powers continuously. I have reached to that point when I haven't only seen nothing, but I also begun to don't feel anything. I thought I've stopped to exist... forever.
