A Hearth's Warming to Remember

“Mother, I’m heading out!” the playful purple filly turned to call once again as she brought her scarf down around her neck with a quick spell. It was the first time her mother had agreed to let her go out in the snow, and she was nearly bouncing with excitement in every little jolt of a step she took. The electricity zipped through her as she lit her horn up, watching the door open in a white blizzard of fun.
Only it wasn’t.
“Mom, I think we’ve twaveled!” Twilight Sparkle, student to books and Mr. Smartypants, now stared at a wall of white. The usual dazzling exterior of the house held wonders to her: bird’s nests, left cold yet still beautiful; streets lined with hoof prints, followed directly by skid marks from their falling; and the most beautiful thing of it all was the clouds.
For an entire year she had been studying clouds, trying to comprehend all they represented, but it just didn’t make sense. For once, she could see them up close, grasp them in her little hooves, her time had come! But they weren’t in Canterlot anymore. “Well, Smawtypants,” she whispered under her breath, kicking at the wall of the cold substance, which she now recognized as snow. “It looks like our enemies have struck again, and this time bwutally.”
The doll nodded back at her. Smartypants was her second-in-command, her one-and-only, the confidant of confidants. No silly wall would take her out.
Twilight Velvet, ever-so-worried of her daughter, peeked in from the other room. “D-dear...Twily...that’s snow. It seems like we’re blocked in for the day! Sorry, sweetie, I know how much you wanted to go out.”
The blank look on Twilight’s face was as casual as any other. As curious as she was, once something intrigued her, it never stopped. “Smawtypants...the snow has declared war!” She gave a hasty salute to her lower officer before jolting off, leaving him sitting in the wind as she charged up the stairs.
Books flew and magic sparked around the large cave. To Twilight, everything around seemed ominous, something she had only experienced once before: The War of the Hay. A long, merciless battle against the forceful ingestion of the substance that controls the minds of Canterlot.
“No snow is gonna wuin my day…” she muttered, giggling at the toys and such she was throwing out. From jackets to mini science kits, Twilight knew she had all she needed to beat the icy door, all but one thing.
In the far crevices of her closet, Twilight lifted up a large mechanized object, placing it upon her tiny back and using magic to support it up. The fuel tank was full and Twilight was ready.
At least until an “icicle” from above dripped onto her. “THE ENEMY IS ATTACKING! WE MUST ESCAPE!”
Lumbering down the stairs carrying her weapon of mass destruction, she used her magic to hold up the pointy end to the door. “Stay back, Smawtypants, fwamethrowers are dangewous!”
Once more, unnoticed by Twilight, her mom peeked in on her, this time a look of jubilee crossing her face at her daughter, levitating a flashlight to the door as “Commander Smartypants” was kicked back into a wall, protected from collateral damage.
“Silly Twi…”

Umm...No - A Contribution By Wizard32363
“No.” Simple and plain, but not too tacky. He always knew how to handle business deals. After all, he was the star of Canterlot. Even in a blizzard he knew just how to handle everything before holiday break started.
The jaw of the opposing pony dropped. “F-Filthy Rich, that’s cruel! T-this charity funds e-everything.Those kids need your coats, or they will surely freeze in the coming winter.”
“Let them.”
“You can’t!”
Filthy Rich stomped his hoof down. “I can and I have, now leave me alone!” In an almost mocking tone, he set on his cap and proceeded to slip on a warm jacket and some boots to avoid slipping.
As he stepped outside, though, his booties caught ice and he fell into a pile of snow snout first. Business partner following, he tried to regain his composure, but the damage was done, and ol’ Snowy Wishes burst out in a fit of laughter. “Decided to stop for a quick meal with a little bit of Filth on the side?”
A bright red flushed over Filthy Rich’s face as he stood up. “Umm...no, I was trying to cool down. It’s hot in there, is all.” A small grumble came afterwards. “The boots say they have traction…”
He cantered off almost as instantly as his sentence concluded, trotting by ponies of all types. There was the… pink pony, carrying her yearly batch of sweets to the two most powerful mares in the land, the lovers at the train station, reuniting after so long, and of course there were the newsponies. Filthy Rich didn’t hate the holidays, persay, but did not like the spirit. Why give when you can get?
Still, he took the time to stop at a young mare selling a paper and gave her a bit for it, opening it up to read the headlines.
“Sir, are you on your way to Ponyville?” Filthy Rich looked left and right, finally looking down to stare at the mare he had previously bought from.
Biting his lip and looking around every which way, he finally settled on an answer. “Umm… no, why?”
The young mare jumped up onto a nearby box, leveling eyes with Filthy Rich. “Sir, there’s a massive blizzard ‘bout to hit the town, nopony can go in doesn’t get on that next train.”
“Nopony…” It took a second for Filthy Rich to really understand the gravity of the situation. “DIAMOND TIARA!” She was in Ponyville, and she could very well be out in the snow. What if it hit her and she was trapped?
Looking off to the trains, he saw the smoke rising, the bouncy cars bouncing. That train was going to leave. “Thanks, boy!” he yelled, rushing off in hopes that that train wouldn’t leave without him on it.
The ticket salesman seemed adamant, though. “Sorry, sir, the train is going to leave. You cannot get any more until the snow melts.”
Filthy Rich groaned. “Umm… no, I am going to get on that train.” He wasn’t just going to leave his daughter behind, now that he had just learned of the storm. It took a split second for him to make his decision; without much thinking, he backed up, running and jumping over the turnstiles after the train, which had just started to pull out of the station.
“STOP THAT TRAIN!”
