Pinkie gulped, not quite finding the words she wanted to say as the white unicorn leaned in with a beaming smile. “Oh, don’t be shy, dearie! You came to me for help, did you not?”
Rarity could barely contain her excitement. She had been waiting for one of her friends
to show romantic interest, in, well anything. She had sometimes believed she was the only one who wanted to find love. “Now, Pinkie, I know you didn’t come all this way just to sit there, fiddling with your hooves. Talk to me.”
Pinkie smiled, feeling a little bit less nervous, and spoke “Well, Rarity, I don’t really know much about romance and what not, and I thought to myself, who would be able to give me examples of what I should look for in a special pony? Afterwards, it hit me: why not talk to the one friend who talks nonstop about finding love?” Rarity just smiled, trying to hold in a squeal of glee at hearing those words from Pinkie.
“So I thought I should hear what you sought in a companion!”
Rarity’s smile grew even bigger, hearing somepony that wanted to listen to her talk about the perfect stallion. “Well, Pinkie first I can tell you that everybody likes different things, myself included. Just because I like it doesn’t mean you would,” Pinkie started to speak but was stopped by a hoof on her mouth. “But I can tell, you are really interested in my view of a perfect stallion, so I might as well indulge you.” Pinkie just nodded with a huge grin on her face, hoping what the princess taught her would come in handy for this conversation.
Rarity sat back in her chair and took a sip of her tea, before gaining a dream like state. “
Now. I’ll tell you, Pinkie, my thoughts on the perfect stallion has changed a lot since the Grand Galloping Gala. I used to want somepony just like me, a proper stallion if you will but after that night and many other instances with ‘noble’ ponies, I have learned that just isn't what I want in a man,” she stops, taking a quick glance to see if she still had her friends attention. Upon seeing that Pinkie was still captivated, she continued.
“I have come to find myself wanting someone strong and caring. Someone who could sweep me of my feet and show me how to feel safe and secure. If we're being honest here, I wouldn’t even mind if the pony I was talking about didn’t mind getting down and dirty!” Pinkie was about to question her but was stopped by Rarity speaking. “I know what you are thinking, I hate dirt, but that’s just it! I want someone who wouldn’t mind getting dirty for me, someone who when after coming home from a hard day’s work would be gleaming with sweat, showing off their fine body, and asking me to help them get cleaned.” Rarity paused to wave a hoof in front of her face.
Pinkie could barely contain her excitement. This was exactly as the princess said,
opposites do attract. The only problem currently was that Rarity kept saying the stallion of her dreams.
Thinking to herself, she decided asking outright would be the best course of action. “
Rarity, I have one quick question?” Rarity snapped out of her thoughts and smiled,
nodding her head to continue. “Well, you keep saying the ‘stallion of your dreams’, would it a problem if it was the mare of your dreams?”
Rarity’s eyes grew to the size of saucers at the question. it all made sense. Pinkie was into other mares, no wonder she was nervous about it. She had to reassure her friend that there was nothing wrong with the idea. “Oh, Pinkie, there is nothing wrong with liking other mares, my dear. It’s just, in my case it’s a tall order for a mare to fill in the shoes of the ruff and gruff stallion I’m looking for.”
If Pinkie’s smile could grow any more, it would have. Instead she spoke. “So what you’re saying is if you could meet a mare that could meet your expectations, you would try to go out with them?” Rarity just stared not liking where this was going.
“Well, if there was a mare out there that could sweep me of my feet... then I would
consider it.”
Pinkie jumped with joy at that statement, and got right up in Rarity’s face “Then I have a super duper idea! How about we make a bet?”
Rarity gulped at the sudden closeness, but spoke. “A bet? Whatever do you mean Pinkie?”
Pinkie drew even closer before speaking. “If I can tell you a mare who meets all of your
standards, you have to go court them!”
Rarity’s brow rose in curiosity. “Okay let’s say I accept your bet. What will you do if who you say doesn’t meet my expectations?”
Pinkie stepped back and brought her hoof up to her face in thought “ Oh, I know. Not only will I be a model for your dresses for a week, I will let you do that thing you always
wanted to do!” Rarity gasped she couldn’t mean what she thought she meant could she.
“You will let me do your mane?” Rarity almost shot out of her seat at the idea.
Pinkie just nodded. Rarity let out a squeal of delight before extending her hoof “Deal!’
Pinkie quickly grabbed her hoof and gave it a shake before sitting down. “So before I say who, let me ask some questions.” Rarity nodded, thinking she had this bet in the bag.
“You said it had to be somepony honest and strong?” She nodded. “Somepony who
could sweep you of your feet and had no problem getting dirty for you?” Rarity smiled
surprised she was listening so well. “And even though you didn’t say it outright, you want somepony strong and well toned to stare at when they come and see you?’ Rarity’s cheeks turned crimson at the statement but nodded.
Pinkie smiled once more before speaking. “Then it’s simple, Rarity, your perfect mare is none other than Applejack!” she exclaimed with pure joy. Rarity, on the other hand was not faring as good. Her pupils had shrunk to the size of pinpricks, and her jaw was
hanging so low a bird might think it was a new bird house.
“What..ev-ever do you mean, Pinkie? There is no way Applejack falls into those
descriptions.” Pinkie just gave her an unimpressed look.
At this, Rarity took some time to think on her friend's words. She had never thought of
Applejack in the way of romance but Pinkie was right to some degree. She was indeed, honest and strong. She also had a great body. My gosh Rarity how dare we think of such things like her well-toned thighs and the way her flank… bad brain stop thinking.
Pinkie just continued to smile, knowing she had her right where she wanted her. “So Rare, you’re not going to back out of the bet, are you?” Rarity was in a state of shock. All the thoughts she never had started to flow through her mind that Applejack was not only exactly the person she described, but the thought of her being with the countrymare was scandalous and as much as she would hate to admit it was a huge turn on.
Snapping out of her thoughts she spoke “No Pinkie, I won’t back out. A lady never breaks a bet with a friend. I just was so sure there was no mare who could meet my standards, I blinded myself from the obvious!”
At this she put her face in her hooves and sobbed. Pinkie instantly grew worried.
“I didn’t mean to upset you, Rarity, I thought you would be happy that there was
somepony out there for you...”
Rarity lifted her head and choked out a sob. “It’s not that Pinkie it's just... what am I
supposed to do? Now that I know, how do I talk to her? What do I say? I don’t want to ruin our friendship.”
Pinkie just smiled. “Oh, is that all you silly filly it’s an easy answer,” Rarity choked back a sob as she waited for her friend to continue. ”You just need to go talk to her, learn more about her and spend time with her. At least that’s what most the books said.”
Rarity sat up with a glare. “And just how am I supposed to do that, just walk up to her and say ‘hey Applejack I want to know more about you out of nowhere!’ Doesn't that seem strange to you?”
Pinkie sat back in thought at her response before she had a great idea but Rarity was not going to like it not one bit. “Well Rares, it’s easy! You’re just going to have to get down and dirty for the mare of your dreams!”
