Chapter 33

Inside her new home Sunset was having a day off and just relaxing from all the paperwork she had done yesterday. Having to deal with the craziness that happens at least once a week, is making her wonder why she had ever wanted to come back to Equestria. When she first left she was in the eyes of the ponies, fully sexually mature mare, while in the human world she was just a young filly.
Sunset had quickly learned that humans have different stages of growth compared to ponies.
Infancy (neonate and up to one year age)
Toddler ( one to five years of age)
Childhood (three to eleven years old) - early childhood is from three to eight years old, and middle childhood is from nine to eleven years old.
Adolescence or teenage (from 12 to 18 years old)
And finally Adulthood.
Ponies just had a much shorter childhood and mature faster then humans. Sunset had seen photos of Applebloom where she was small and cute and suddenly she had the body of a young woman. Puberty hits ponies like a building falling on top of them. Going from short and stocky to tall and slender in just a year once puberty hits them at the age of 9, where they’re just a eating machine to fuel all the growth their bodies go through. With bodies that are able to have children, the young mare still has lots of growing to be a fully matured mare, which is why some young mares stay in school if they don’t have a business or a job. Also when they become sexually activate as their scent changes signaling other mares that she is now of age where she can breed. (1)
Having lived as a human for years had made Sunset aware of how strange it is that compared to humans, ponies have very short childhoods but long young adult years before they become fully mature adults. As in reaching their full size, ponies having longer lifespans then humans and only showing their age near the end. Granny Smith is the oldest living pony in Ponyvile being nearly 400 years, and looks it which happens to ponies who aren't alicorns. The long lifespan is to counteract the low birthrates that the ponies have, with the ponies reaching their full growth and size in their 40s give or take.
All of which isn't in effect for Sunset herself as she's a hybrid. Her moms don't want to risk anymore transformation spells on her, not after what happen to her last time. The entire transformation would had killed her if it was used any longer. The perks is that Sunset could use magic again but only half as powerful as she would be as a full alicorn and she also as immortal as her moms, aunts and Cadance. Of course being immortal isn't being unkillable, as both her moms and aunts have told her that they have met other immortals before, and some have died as being immortal doesn't mean you can't be killed. "Hi Sunset," Spike said walking into the study where Sunset is reading a book.
"Spike what are you doing here?" Sunset asked.
"Twilight has a owl, Owlowiscious who she replaced me as her assistant. So, I was wondering if, I can't be yours," Spike said looking up at Sunset.
“Spike just because Twilight has a new assistant, doesn’t mean you have nothing else to do. You’re still a baby dragon and still have lots of childhood to look forward to unlike ponies who hit puberty around 9. From what, I heard all you have done is being Twilight's assistant for most of your life. You should be out playing around being a kid, you only have so much of a childhood before you, suddenly become a teenager," Sunset said.
"Teenager?" Spike asked confused.
"For other races a teenager is between when puberty hits and when it stops. Lots of growing, body changes, mood swings before it stops, which ponies only go through for one year while other races can take up to 10 years," Sunset explains.
"So, I'll be growing through changes?" Spike asked.
"I actually don't know. Ponies don't really know that much about dragons, the only ones you can ask about what changes a dragon goes through would be another dragon," Sunset said.
"But where can I find another dragon?" Spike asked.
"There is the dragon who is sleeping in the cave on top of the mountain. But it would be bad to just wake him without a good reason. But there is the Great Dragon Migration that's going to happen in a few months. He should wake up for that and you can ask him then or go on the migration yourself and learn what being a dragon is," Sunset said.
"There aren't any books about dragons?" Spike asked.
"Spike ponies are sissies and cowards, there be no way there be any ponies who study dragons. As in talking to one. Even my moms and aunts stay clear of dragons because of the fact that when dragons reach full size, they become immune to magic and are simply too big to face," Sunset said. (3)
"But what do, I do till then?" Spike asked.
"Enjoy yourself and have fun on your own. Since, I met you all you been doing is being Twilight's assistant. YOu should find out what you like to do on your own," Sunset said.
"Do what?" Spike asked.
"Play videogames, read comics, eat cookies and drink milk?" Sunset suggested finding it strange that there are videogames but no tvs. (4)
"Ooooh, ok!" Spike running off to do his own thing instead of just being an assistant. (5)

Author's Note
1 - Seeing how in real life ponies reach sexual maturity in less than 2 years. I’m going with the ponies being able to take care of themselves after the age of 9 when puberty hits them and they have the bodies of young women.
Seeing how in cannon of the show some of the ponies are seen leaving home at a young age but are able to take care of themselves. Like how Fluttershy just seem to just stayed on the ground and never going back home. Or Cheese Sandwich leaving home and no one in the show thinks of anything about it.
So in the story setting the ponies after the age of 9 are sexually mature enough to have sex and have children. They still have some growing to do to be fully matured but they're seen as young adults in pony culture.
2 - Many people do make the mistake of thinking that being immortal means you can never die. True you can't die of old age, but it doesn't mean you can't be killed.
In real life cancer cells are immortal but only as long as they have a steady supply of food to keep themselves alive. Which I'm going with in all of my stories. If there is someone immortal, you just have to figure out a way to make them killable. Like turning a immortal into a vampire and teleporting them into the sun.
Also anything being undead or never alive in the first place, doesn't count as being immortal. Those two are their own things with different rules.
3 - I'm going with that dragons once they reach a certain size are immune to magic and are simply too big to handle.
4 - It's really strange that there are videogames but no radios or tvs in cannon of the show.
5 - Seeing how the show was all about Twilight and her friends. Spike wasn't really used that much till the last few seasons and even then he's more of a support and helping Twilight then anything else.
