Prologue

I was always thought of as a strange filly. Part of it was my parents fault; Colgate T. (Tardie) Romana wasn’t a normal name, even by pony standards. That was an easy name to be made fun of, and apparently, very fun to make fun of, too. Another part of it was my special talent. I was fairly early to develop, getting my cutie mark in my second year of school. And my cutie mark was for a magical talent: The ability to manipulate time and space.

I lived by a farm in Manehattan, and all the little fillies and colts were afraid of me. Their parents were too, though they’d never admit to it. They told stories about me, how I was ‘not even normal by the unicorn standards’. To them, I was the scary little filly who was the dentist's daughter. Dentists are a needed part of the community in Equestria, where sweets were served at almost every meal. My parents wanted desperately for me to stay home, and be in the family dentistry business. But as I got older, I found that I would be more appreciated elsewhere. I was accepted to Princess Celestia’s school for the Magically Gifted.

Once there, I started to make friends, and to be accepted. Sure, I had strange powers and a dark sense of humor, but we all were a bit on the odd side, weren’t we? I was finally in a place where my talents were valued and learned from, not shunned and hated.

Now Twilight Sparkle has a bit of an ego. She thought she was the first one to be sent to Ponyville to prepare, and to learn. Princess Celestia actually sent many of us to learn about friendship with other ponies who weren’t nerds of the highest degree, and to help Ponyville with the Summer Sun Celebration. Ignorant Twilight was so engrossed in her books she didn’t notice all of us who were gone, were, well, gone. She thought she was “oh so special” because the princess sent her. Did she not realize that when she ran into us we were about to have a conference with the Princess in the courtyard? But I digress.

I had settled in nicely in Ponyville. I became the much needed town dentist (my parents had taught me well) and avoided any awkward questions about my cutie mark by saying I really liked clocks. I gained SO many friends! Two examples are Bon-Bon, and candy connoisseur, because of her frequent toothaches, and Berry Punch (the town drunk) , because of her horribly dark sense of humor, and the fact she was in my office once a week because of how badly the liquor eroded her teeth.

I did have a rather nice life in Ponyville. But that all changed the night Nightmare Moon returned. Because that was the night I met him. That was the night that I met...The Doctor.
