Chapter 19

Previous Chapter

"Sorry for the late arrival, I am built to traverse cities in a short amount of time. Not go 15,000km to give fire support sir" informed the Monitor.

"Well the good thing i-ACK" began Kessler but was cut off as his body flew through the air and his ears were filled with a powerful ringing and his vision was hazy.

"SIR!!" bellowed the Monitor as it watched the cloud of smoke and dust rise from Kessler's position. It switched to thermal vision and found Kessler's body along with his squad sprawled in different directions due to the explosion. The Monitor ran a quick scan and found that his commander was alive, well it looked alright on his terms but a doctor must analyse him quickly. The Monitor heard a faint ping as a shell hit its armour but failed to penetrate. It quickly resumed its battle stance and scanned the area, sure enough it spotted the enemy tank. And this time it wasn't going to let it live. The Monitor powered up its main Laser Cannon and loaded all missile pods. It targeted the Tank and as soon as the missiles were ready, it fired all of them which converged towards their target. As the missiles battered the tank and made deafening explosions, the tank itself was already destroyed after two missile hits, but the Monitor made sure the enemy was completely vaporised as the missiles kept hitting the last known position of the tank. After missile volley has been done the Monitor wasted no time in firing its Laser Cannon which resulted in another deafening boom and causing a small crater.

Stallions in the trenches covered their ears as the roar of the explosion washed over them and dirt came showering upon them. Some were standing out of the trench and were blown back due to the force. The ground shook with terror as it had just taken another Laser Cannon blow. All around Stallions and and remaining members of Wolfpack squad were either trying to get off the ground or rubbing their heads in confusion to what just happened.

Kessler could only cover his ears as the explosion kept ringing in his ears, the sound was so deafening that anyone could have lost their hearing.

"Sir! Sir! Sir! came a faint voice, "SIR! SIR!" came the voice again only louder. Kessler's vision was covered by a dark figurine as he squinted his eyes to get a better look at the person.

"Don't you die on me buddy" said the familiar voice as his body started moving, which meant he was being dragged to safety.

"What....what happened?" croaked Kessler as he tried to recall what happened.

"We got hit by a tank shell, all of us except Bobby who's sitting all comfortable in his camping spot and just picking off targets like he'a at a toy store" scoffed the voice.

"Well thats something" remarked Kessler.

As his body stopped moving, his body was placed against a solid object and now he could rest his back and wait until help arrives.

"Thank you soldier, whats your name?" asked Kessler.

"Its me Hans you idiot" informed Hans as he sat down next to him.

"Oh, sorry about that, didn't recognise your voice. Where are the rest?" asked Kessler.

"Heh, we all do that. John is currently out cold but ok, his vitals are fine and so is everything in his body. Lucky bastard, he's got the thickest armour amongst us. Lucky that shell didn't land directly at his feet or else bye bye John. Erwin is also knocked out, but ok, he was the least affected since he wasn't that close. But the damn armour must've been the one that knocked him out." replied Hans.

"And what about you?" asked Kessler.

"Well aside from some bruises and cuts, a fractured left wrist and probably a fractured hand too.....I'd say thats it really, but I'm not sure about my right leg though, it feels out of place" informed Hans.

"Where is John and Erwin?"

"They're both lying in the same spot as I found them. Their armour is too heavy too move and I only have one hand working so its best if I don't hurt myself" answered Erwin.

"Well, thats something" mused Kessler.

"What about you? Do you have any broken bones?" asked Hans.

"Hmm lets see, I can't feel my legs which means they must be broken. My back hurts like hell and my arms are in a state of shock. They won't respond well" replied Kessler.

"Well guess you'd better see a doctor. Speaking of which" began Hans as a stretcher carried by four stallions galloped up to them.

"This one needs medical attention and the other two down there need to be fetched and brought over here so I can keep an eye on them. Come back when he's done" ordered Hans as the medical stallions with the help of Hans. Lifted up Kessler and placed him on the stretcher.

"Try not to pass out will ya" remarked Hans as he watched the medical ponies take Kessler back into the wall, where he would be treated well. Hopefully.

"Will the commander be safe?" asked the Monitor.

"Since when did you start having feelings for him?" asked Hans.

"I am given the full responsibility to protect my superiors whenever on a mission. Failure to do so would mean a shut down for my loss" informed the Monitor.

"Heh, no wonder" mused Hans.

"And try to keep this a secret Herr Essenweild, but I fear that my cores won't hold up for long due to the surge in unknown power sources that I have absorbed and converted into energy. For a safe way to ensure I do not put your lives an others at risk I will shut myself down to prevent an overload and cause a nuclear fallout" informed the Monitor.

"Say what now?" asked Hans shockingly.

"You heard me" said the Monitor.

"Why not tell him?" asked Hans.

"Because I do not wan't my commander to become to attached to me. Knowing him, he develops strong feelings whoever he works with. Like you for example, he cares for all of you and regards you as brothers. If he knows I am about to do something like this, I doubt he would approve" informed the Monitor.

"Well thats...a bit touching....but you know he's going to find out sooner or later. Knowing him, he can sometimes tell that I'm hiding a secret, I will try my best though. You have my word" answered Hans.

"Thank you Here Essenweild" began the Monitor as it resumed watch.

"I hope that fool hasn't developed too much feelings for this machine" thought Hans worriedly as he sat down and leaned against the foot of the Monitor.

"Hey doc, what sort of thing did you do to me?" asked Kessler as he sat up straight on his bed.

"Oh just some simple healing spells and a few arrangements. I do find it interesting about your skeletal structure. I am quite intrigued and honestly I had a hard time wondering which pieces go together. But relating your structures to that of a monkey I had little time repositioning your bones and fixing that broken hand and wrist and legs an feet of yours" beamed the Doctor as he picked up his clipboard.

"What your name doc?" asked Kessler.

"Ah my name is Steven Trench but Doctor Trench is fine" i formed the Doctor.

"Thank you Doctor Trench, I can't thank you enough" thanked Kessler.

"My pleasure mister Kessler" replied the Trench.

"I have a few of my buddies with the same problem, you think you could also patch them up?" asked Kessler politely.

"Why sure! I'd love to help some more. Just drop by this tent later and I'll see what I can do" beamed the Doctor before exiting the area.

"Well that settles it, time to return to the field and check on my friends" began Kessler as he grabbed his armour and gear. After 10 minutes of fiddling around, he finally got everything on except his helmet as he hung it on his waist and slung his assault rifle on his back. He exited the area an looked around, the camp was busy as usual only this time there were stretchers coming in and out of various medical tents. Some empty some bloodied or some just carrying dead bodies.

"Jeez, poor guys. I'll make sure to end this war for these guys just so they can rest in piece later on" thought Kessler as he started walking towards the gate. As he exited the area, he could still see clouds of smoke as there were still burning wreckages of vehicles in the distant, the land was uneven now as the previous Laser blast had levelled the whole mountain where the enemy once stood. Now its just a crescent hole. As Kessler kept trudging through the dead field he kept seeing dead bodies f stallions and griffons alike, only that the bodies of the stallions were being taken back to be buried properly and the griffon bodies were being burnt.

"Must've affected them all" thought Kessler as he passed a group of crying stallions who were all mourning for their dead friend. Kessler stopped and stood next to the crying stallions and read the make shift grave.

"Here lies Feather Dust, died defending the proud land of Equestria. May Faust guide him all"

"Hope you rest well soldier" thought Kessler as he gave a salute and continued on his journey. The only thing that seemed alive right now was the towering 80m tall behemoth that stood in the centre of the dead battlefield and was watching for any signs of hostile activity.

"Jeez, it never fails at its job now does it" though Kessler as he approached the hulking piece of metal.

"Well look who decided to join the party" said Bobby as he greeted Kessler with a smile.

"Well I'm here now" said Kessler as he looked at the squad. All of them had their helmets removed but kept their armour on as an enemy attack might be imminent.

"How are you walking already?" asked a shocked Hans.

"The doctor gave me some sort of healing agent. You all should try it, will fix you up real good" informed Kessler.

"Yeah, except I need help getting there" remarked Hans.

"Hold on a sec. Hey you! Get a stretcher on the double" ordered Kessler at a nearby stallion who nodded and ran off.

"Just wait for the stretcher and you'll be good in no time" informed Kessler as he patted Hans's shoulder.

"How are you lot holding up?" asked Kessler as he looked at the rest of them.

"I'm fine, just a bit shaken up though" informed Erwin.

"Same here only that my body hurts. No broken bones though, I checked" answered John.

"Say, wheres Victor?" asked Kessler curiously.

"Oh I forgot to tell you, he was the first one to the taken in by the medical staff, I didn't see much but he was hammered quite hard" said Hans.

"WHAT?! Where is he now?" said a shocked Kessler.

"Currently in the camp isn't he? Didn't you see him?" asked Hans.

"No" replied Kessler.

"I saw Victor being brought in, I think it was medical tent 27" informed Bobby.

Jut as Kessler was about to say something, the stretcher team arrived and they all helped put Hans on it before taking off again.

"Tent 27 was it?" asked Kessler.

"Yep, I think" replied Bobby.

"I'll catch you all later" began Kessler as he jogged back towards the camp. As the team waved goodbye they all sat in silence as they waited for their next move.

Kessler moved at a quickened pace as he wondered through out the base looking for medical tent 27. After what seemed like hours of countless wandering, he finally found the tent and entered it. I side he found various different stallions being tended too. Some were wrapped in bandages others were being operated on or just sleeping. Kessler scanned the room for any unusual things, sure enough he spotted Victor lying at the last bed with two doctors surrounding him. His armour and belongings were placed near him which made it easier to find him.

As Kessler approached the bed, he recognised Doctor Trench amongst the two.

"Hello Doctor" said Kessler as he walked up to Victors bed.

"Ah, Hello there Mister Kessler, I see you must be eager to hear about your friends condition. I'm sorry for not telling immediately but I had to operate quickly" informed Trench.

"Thats ok doc, hows he doing?" asked Kessler worriedly.

"Well, when he first arrived I'm not sure if we could've save him. But now it looks like the odds in our favour. Me and Doctor quill here along with some others whom left earlier have managed to fully repair his broken back and ribcages. Unfortunately his left arm has been broken and the spell is still trying to rearrange it, his right arm is dislocated and we're going to initiate the process now. After that we shall move on to his legs which we will also repair" informed the Doctor Trench, as he and Doctor Quill charged up their horns and began covering Victors right arm and legs in a yellowish glow. After what seemed like 10 minutes of sweating and chanting. The two doctors finally stopped the spell and sat on the floor with a heavy sigh.

"It is done" informed Doctor Trench.

"Thank you doctor for you service. So whats the progress?" asked Kessler.

"We have managed to relocate the arm and the spell will now do its job. As for the legs, a few broken bones but we've managed to fix that. A duplication spell shouldn't hurt and its now good as new" answered Doctor Trench.

"Thank you doctor, both you and Quill for your hard work. I really appreciate it" thanked Kessler.

"No worries, although your friend might be in be for at least two days. I'll check on him now and then don't you worry" beamed Doctor Trench.

"Hey doc, sorry if I sound a bit accusing. But your not an average day doctor aren't you?" said Kessler.

"Why yes your correct there, I am indeed an elite doctor handpicked by Celestia herself to attend the frontlines. I was stationed here when the war started. We excel in many medical fields such as healing spells or total cleansing or purging. We are the best you can get sir" said Trench proudly.

"Glad to have you around doc" smiled Kessler.

"I am flattered, now if you must excuse me I have to attend to my other patients. I suggest letting your friend rest for now" began Trench as he walked out of the tent and disappeared from sigh.

"Well he's and interesting fellow" though Kessler. As he exited the tent, he took one final glance and Victor and walked out assuring himself that he'll be fine. As he walked around the area, he could see the battle hardened stallions moving about and getting ready. He could see the fresh recruits who just experiences their first battle having a metal trauma as they stared at random directions with the loom of fear in their eyes. He saw troops just lying down exhausted as they were relieved to be out of the fight for a change. As Kessler continue walking, he climbed the steps and headed up onto the wall. As he reached the top, he overlooked the dead battlefield from left to right. All he could see was dirt, not a speck of green anywhere. He watched a group stallions carrying what seems to be their country's flag as they set it up the border. Kessler watched the sun set on the horizon ever the lifeless field as it would be the last day that field ever saw action again.

"I'm coming for you, you greedy king. I'll let you taste the power of nazi Germany" thought Kessler as he clenched his fist, "I'm coming for you"
