Chapter 2
Previous ChapterA white pegasus mare with dark blue eyes, a night blue mane, and a cutie mark of the zodiac symbols Cancer, and Aries was pacing through her house. "C'mon Zodiac, think, think, think! Today is Turbo's birthday! His eighteenth one no less! Think of a way to surprise him. Oh, and I'm spouting exposition again..." She murmured. Zodiac Starr and Turbo had been friends since they were eight. Today was April fourteenth, Turbo's birthday and she had let this slip her mind. The mare started to tap her head with a hoof in frustration, ignoring the slight headache it was giving her.
"Ugh! What in Celestia's sun and Luna's bucking moon can I do?!?" She complained to nopony in particular. Calming herself down, she sat down on her haunches. "I really hate my memory." She sighed in exasperation. Zodiac's eyes seemingly lit up as she ran to her table and grabbed her piggy bank. She needed the bits inside of it for her plan for Turbo.
Nightingale sighed as he walked over to his part of the base. Ever since his left foreleg started humming, he was feeling like a red hot knife was being driven through his chest and cutting down his back and stomach. As much as he hated it, the pain was so frequent, and so common, that he was used to it. He sat down on a chair and looked at his left foreleg, cringing at the memory of how he lost it, and his eye. His eyes wandered to the rings that formed the lock on his body and he sighed. He reached his right hoof to it and started rotating each of the rings to a specific number. "Two, nine, nine, eight." He murmured as he rotated them to the code of numbers he wanted.
"Today is his birthday..." He sighed solemnly closing his good eye. He gently pulled at the robotic appendage, causing it to let out a hiss and releasing the pressure that it would apply to his shoulder. It separated from the stub that his foreleg used to be attached to, the pain finally subsided when he did this. He held the aforementioned appendage in his hoof, and growled.
"Maybe I should just quit while I'm ahead on this... this leg is gonna do more harm than good." He thought.
"I've come this far.... I'm not going to back down now!" He growled to himself.
Turbo laughed as he heard Zodiac. "You actually thought I'd be angry at you?" He calmed himself down as he looked in across the table he was sitting at, Zodiac had taken Turbo to The Hayburger as a last minute attempt to celebrate his birthday. The chatter in the restaurant didn't cover his conversation with his friend, but despite knowing that he wasn't angry, Zodiac still looked remorseful. "Zodiac, listen, you didn't have to spend any money on me at all, if you wanted to hang out we could've played videogames or something of the-"
"But you should be mad..." Zodiac sighed.
"But why?" Turbo asked, getting a little worried for his friend.
Zodiac slammed her forehoof on the table. "Because today's your eighteenth birthday! You should expect the best today! You should-" She was cut off by a hug from her friend.
"Zodiac, listen, don't beat yourself up over silly stuff like this." Turbo comforted with a smile.
A sky blue unicorn colt was making his way to the entrance of Ponyville. He wore a black fedora that covered most of his mane, the only exception was the front of his mane that stuck out of the hat, the hair was spiky, and a mixture brown and gray. His eyes were a light shade of brown. He also wore a gray ascot, a saddlebag rested on his back. His horn glowed and he pulled out a small box. "He's gonna need this." He said apathetically, walking into the town.
The new world will rise like a phoenix
