Almond Story V0.01

(The format will be changed into a regular looking story, First time writing something this long so I have to get used to it)

A long time ago, a pony by the name of Almond Bubbles swore vengence against the unicorns that attacked his home.

He was rescued by the pegasi military and later recuited. Today, he stands as the Commander of the stealth force.

                                                  -Chapter One-

"Commander Almond, the enemy forces has spotted us!" said a pegasus private. "Then it's about time I teach you how

to fight until help arrives!"

As we raised our swords a bright light appeared nearly blinding everyone on the battlefield.

                                                   [yesterday]

I strapped my armor to my chest. I was on my way to begin my daily scouting and to meet up with a friend. As usual I

didn't wear my leg insignia stating that I was a captain of the recon squad, it was just too flashy for me,

Even though all captains were required to wear it at all times.I walked outside the squad captain's tent and hopped down from my cloud.

(Note: I don't think they would actually set up tents on clouds, but I rather it be like that, sorry physics!)

The Captain of the infantry squad Omega was waiting for me down below. She had an angry look on her face that

screamed to me "You're Late!". I landed next to her with a goofy grin, she just sighs and gestures for me to follow

as she walked away. This mare did not own a name due to her village being attacked at birth. She was forsakened,

so we simply called her The Mare of the Forsaken village. She did not enjoy me or her squad calling her that, so

we all gave her a name of our own, which did get confusing at times. I called her the name of a greek goddess,

Athena, which is known or at least I know her as the goddess of strategy. "Hey Athena, wanna go eat something?" I said.

She remained silent, and kept walking, judging from the look on her face, she had something serious to say.

She stopped under an arch in a cloud, she looked at me with determined eyes. "Almond, I want to ask you something" she

stated. Confused and surprised, I simply nodded my head and gulped in slight fear of what was going through her head.

Suddenly the determined look turned into a evil smirk. She moves closer to whisper in my ear. My eyes widen and I

jump back, with my face turning purple of my body's attempt to blush. "W-W-What!?" I stuttered. She laughs,"I am just

Messing with you Almond!". She falls to the cloud floor laughing her head off(not literaly O_o). "D-Don't play around

like that!" I yelled with a still blushing angry face. I sigh,"So what did you really want". She gets up and says,"We only

have today, until we have to get back on the battlefield", Returning to her serious face. I sat there silent, The two

of us being the youngest soldiers of the military did not enjoy fighting with the other races. We did not get to have a

childhood, since we both were but small foals and colts when our villages were attacked. I did not hate the unicorn race,

but only the unicorns who attacked my home and killed everyone I loved. I knew I was too forgiving and that was my weakness on the battlefield. I pitied my enemies, constantly pardoning them. We heard a calling horn and immediately flew off our cloud and over to the

meeting area. Generals and the Commander Captain standing on the stage, waiting for all pegasi personnel to arrive. We sat down on the cloud in the growing flock with all the other squad captains. I scratched my head and looked down at the forest below us, noticing multiple

dots of colors. Alarmed, I was going to say something but the meeting was beginning, so I went to go deal with it myself.

I fell backwards off the cloud and dived down into the forest below, only to see that they went into hiding. I looked

around cautiously and headed towards a clearing. Immediately colors immerged from the tree lines and I counted more

than dozens of Earth pony soldiers with swords and bows. Being completely outnumbered, I took to the air and planned an attack.

I thought and thought and thought, but there was no Ideas coming to mind. I had no way of taking on this many soldiers.

That's when I heard it, the Infantry squad Omega with Athena in front leading. she drops and hovers next to me saying,

"You should have said something before fighting this many enemies". I rubbed my head,"well I didn't think there would

be this many". She teared a little,"I'm glad you're safe". I patted her head,"well I guess we should go help your squad".

She nodded and we dropped to the ground where a battle was now raging. The air suddenly thickened, all soldiers

including the earth ponies fell over. This feeling was one, I knew too well, a unicorn general had teleported

near by. I raised my head slowly and shouted,"All Pegasi units, retreat back to the base!". The squad and Athena all hesistantly

flew away. I stood my ground to buy time from the arriving general. In the blink of an eye,"Are you hoping to try and stop me?".

The general now stood behind me before I could even think. Even his evil glare sent shivers down my spine without me looking

at it myself. I tried to open my mouth and ask him what he was doing here, but I was too afraid, He simply walked around me.

"Well if you're not going to answer me, I gu-" Cut off by a spear landing in front of him, He teleports back about a few yards.

The Pegasi general named Aires(which is spanish for air), now stood before me. Without words,

the two ponies started battleing. They were moving so fast, not even trained eyes could see them. Sparks were flying left to

right, and I was in the middle of it. Coming back to my senses, I looked up and flew off to escape the intense battle.

More generals were passing me by, as I watched in awe of the power I felt glowing off each and every one of them. They all started

fighting the unicorn at once. The unicorn had yet to break a sweat, which was the scary part. He said something that wasn't audible from

my distance, and teleported away. I flew above the clouds to see that the meeting had been cancled and the pegasi went home, so I simply flew back to my home. Later that day I recieved a letter, from the general of the Stealth Squadron. I ripped the package open with my teeth and pulled the letter out, "For your bravery of facing a General, you have displayed the true traits of a pegasi. We are adding a new rank to the system and we would like to accept you as Commander of the Stealth force. This rank states that you will not only lead the recon squad, but also many other squads that require stealth training. Welcome to the beginning of your new ranking towards general, Commander Almond", My mouth dropped.

Something fell out of the packaging, reaching for it and picking it up, it was the leg insignia for commander of the stealth force.

I immediately slid it onto my leg, I stood with pride of this new title. I jumped out my tent

and flew over Athena's home. In the opening, I saw she was reading a letter and had the same expression I did. I couldn't believe we

both made it to such an outstanding rank. She put on her insignia and turned to me,"well how do I look?". "You look pretty amazing",

I said. "I don't have anything to do this afternoon, how about we go celebrate and get some dinner?" I asked. "I'm a little tired,

sorry but I think I will pass", she said. Rubbing my head, I shrug and head back to my tent and ate a salad before going to sleep.

                                                            [today]

I wake up, and rub away my bed hair. The new captain of the recon squad stood above me,"Good morning Commander Almond, we would like to arrange a demonstration from you to show us how you would lead the recon squad". I nodded with saliva still hanging from my mouth,

"wait until the sun lowers and the moon rises, so we can do this correctly".

                                                       [As the sun sets]

I put on my armor and head out to where the Pegasi now waited for me. "Today I have a difficult task for you, You will be spying on

the Earth head quaters itself, but I will accompany you" I shouted. I thought that it would be a bad idea at first but it would

also be a good lesson, if we didn't get caught of course. They all nodded and I shouted to meet up north of their base. Later

that night, I flew up in a tree where the captain waited. "They seem to be preparing for the unicorns to attack", the captain whispered.

In confusion, I was about to ask him how did he come to this conclusion as a pegasi fell off one of the branches. I looked down to see

him make a loud thud against the ground. The earth ponies noticed and started rushing over with swords. "Commander Almond, the enemy forces has spotted us!" said a pegasus private. "Then it's about time I teach you how to fight until help arrives!"

As we raised our swords a bright light appeared nearly blinding everyone on the battlefield. The unicorns were now attacking the base, and we were about to be caught in the crossfire. The leading captain was suddenly next to us,"How about we call a temporary truce until this battle is over". I nodded and we flew down to help out the unicorns, and we fought aside them. As the battle ended, the earth ponies retreated. with no generals arriving to help them, we assumed that this wasn't their Head Quarter after all, it was in fact too small. We flew away while the unicorns scavenged the area for any supplies and... books? We sat up in a clearing and started a fire as we cleared away some surrounding grass. We sung and ate some food and drinks we brought along on this scout, as we looked up at the beautiful full moon. Athena and some of her old squad arrived to see that we were just fine. A familiar sigh emitted from her, and she and her squad sat down to join in. We laughed and celebrated for a successful battle. I got up and asked,"how about we go for a fly tonight?". She sighed, and nodded as we took off into the night sky. We flew far above the trees and drifted at sky level. "Hey, I bet you can't fly better than me" in the midst of silence. She dove towards the trees. "Hey where's the heads up?" I laughed as I dove after her. She flew right and left passed the trees with amazing agility. I wasn't gonna let her beat me that easily so I used my light weighted armor advantage and started flapping harder and harder. As I passed her, she made a cute little grunt of frustration. She dropped her leg gear and took off before I knew it. I had forgot that all infantry warriors wore super weighted leg gear even in battles to become faster, this was mostly for taking on generals who's speeds were unmatched(mostly to hold them off until backup from other generals arrived). At this point we had matched speeds and we were racing towards a clearing. With one last push, she flew towards the ground and kicked off. Almost blurring, she passed me and flew up and out from the clearing. I followed feeling defeated after her. "Ha, seems like infantry is better than scouts even in speed" she gloated. "Fine, but you had an unfair advantage with the gear!" feeling that my pride was wounded. "Yeah, guess you just need to learn how to fly better". "Well It doesn't matter cause I'm still be-" something cutting me off. A large branch extremely audible had snapped in the distance. There is only a few animals who were large enough to make a branch snap that loud(due to the size of the brance). We looked around readying our weapons into the dark woods. A steady silence, I nodded to her as she glared back to me. A moment of stillness, then we quickly dart upwards. Shadowy figures follow in pursuit, and without a word we make a swift right into the nearest cloud. We thought we would have the advantage if we had been able to fight atop the cloud but to our surprise, a griffon busted right through it. Bashing right into us we lose our weapons as they fall from a great distance. The griffons under us soon rise to our level and grab hold of us. "Let us go!" I yelped. I felt a tug on my backside when a sharp wave of pain flew through me. My wings were bent and twisted as I let out a cry of pain. "No please!" Athena pleaded. I felt light headed, they let go and dropped me to my inevitable doom. I fell ragdoll towards what I thought would be my last moments, as I stared towards Athena being tooken away. I tried reaching towards her but to no avail I blacked out. I plummeted into the trees, the branches broke my fall but still I smacked the ground in a large thud.

Wind flurries across the fields, I sit atop a cliff as the waves of the sea struck it. I stare off into the horizon as the sun sets. I rest my head on the patch of grass under me. I felt as if a weight was lifted off of me, that I could finally take a nap. In that moment a pegasus had appeared next to me. "What are you doing?" The mysterious figure asked. "I'm tired" I yawned. He kicked me and I shot up in anger. "What was that for!?" "Listen, if you win you live." Almost questioning me. "If you lose, well you die, and you can't win if you don't fight." I looked to him, he seemed so familiar like I've known him all my life. As if he said this to me a long time ago. "So are you going to win?" My eyes widened, I felt like I had something to do. "So fly, fly and save her" I looked at him one more time then turned to the horizon. I ran off the cliff and flew. I flew faster and faster towards that horizon, trying to get over it.
