Wings of Legend
Chapter 1: The Outcast
Well.We begin apparently 2500 years ago if you are correct when I was banished from my homeland and sent to this. Strange place. I couldn’t describe it all in one breath even if I wanted to. Please allow me to tell you of this “adventure” if you want to even call it that.
“Tahrovin!” An Elder Dragon with white scales ruby-like eyes and leathery wings said in a firm strict tone as she flew up behind me while I was practicing my aerial moves and tricks, she only had two legs and uses her wings like arms. (Which in all honesty only made her more intimidating from the point of view of a novice dragon who haven’t even found their spark yet).
A dragon's spark is an ancient dragons ability to breath fire, modern dragons would likely have their spark at birth due to natural evolution. But their spark is much weaker than an ancient dragons spark. Just clarifying for you no need to sigh or roll your eyes at me.
“Um. Yes? You know my name how might I a-” I said getting cut off by the Elder Dragon who shot me a glare, that was all the warning I needed to pipe down.
“You have shown signs of disobedience to the dragon honor and code. Many have reported having seen you slaughtering dozens of hatchlings as they hatched from their eggs. How do you plead?” The Elder Dragon said with a snarl narrowing her gaze awaiting my response.
“Innocent of course, what type of heartless beast would kill a hatchling, let alone dozens of them!” I said raising my voice unintentionally, (if you didn’t know a hatchling is a new born dragon, who don’t have their wings yet). The Elder Dragon growled and I nearly dropped out of the sky. Only a fool would enrage an Elder Dragon, who is superior in every way to them unless they themselves be an Elder Dragon.
“Apparently, you are. According to a friend of yours named Frostbolt, she watched in horror as you slaughtered them all. Too afraid of what you would do to her if you saw her” The Elder Dragon said making it sound as though I was a heartless now friendless monster. Wonderful. Knowing Frostbolt who I knew growing up, she likely saw a dragon who looked remarkably similar to me killing the hatchlings. Though a dragon with purple leathery wings, light purple underbelly, black scales, orange-red tinted eyes, AND dark purple spines running along the head and spine isn’t exactly an common sight.
“I... Shall give you the benefit of the doubt here Tahrovin. But someone has to be held accountable for th-this act of hatchling genocide cannot go unspoken is what I mean. Only for the sake of appeasing the other Elders and avoiding any torture you might have to go through I tell you this-” the Elder Dragon said hesitating when an Elder Dragon hesitates to say something, you know it’s important. I and the Elder Dragon flew back down to the ground, because we might as, well instead of wasting energy just flying in one place.
“You leave our land, forever. Even if you are innocent. You must go and not tell anyone before doing so.” The Elder said lowering her head to me, I was being banished. For something, I didn’t even do. Never to see my friends again, never to see my homeland again.. You know what fuck it! What could possibly go wrong now?!
“Why shouldn’t I tell anyone? Shouldn’t I get a chance to say goodbye?!” I asked feeling strange. Angry because of my banishment, sad because I cannot even say goodbye, and happy that this Elder Dragon is giving me a second chance in a way.
“I can start over then, right? A blank slate to make anew. I can just fly to a far off land and hibernate until a civilization grows. Which shouldn’t take too long if the ‘humans’ are anything more than just fairy tales and myths.” I said making it sound as though I was glad to be banished. So I quickly added, “Just trying to look at the bright side of things.”
The Elder Dragon tilted her head confused, probably because I was looking at the bright side of being an outcast… Yeah, I would have been confused too.
“Yes. Just go now before any of the other Elder Dragons find you and demand your head on a spike” the Elder blurted out sounding actually a little scared. Was she going out of her way to ensure I lived? Only just realized that 2500 years later… Wonderful. I really should have thanked her but I simply spread my wings, nodded then flew into the air and over the ocean, no idea where I would be headed to or how long it would take, but I didn’t want to anger that Elder Dragon so I didn’t look back when I flew off.
It was a long, energy draining flight across the ocean to find new land. I kept telling myself along the way that when I landed I could sleep and give my wings the rest they needed. The new land looked promising, but then again I look like a killing machine so looks can be deceiving. I landed on a beach next to a small forest with nothing but valleys beyond it.
After I took a moment to breathe and regain my energy I took to the sky again and searched for any, and I mean ANY, signs of civilization within this new land. I found absolutely nothing! Aside from a few regular looking horses running in a field, that's it. No buildings, no fires, no nothing.
So I decided to just fly to a nearby mountain, dig myself a decent little hole for myself to hibernate in. When I walked inside boulders collapsed in on the entrance trapping me inside, I poked my claws through the cracks, making sure that enough air would be able to get inside, allowing me to hibernate until a civilization grows, and due to progress, they would start mining out mountains. So I would be simply waiting until humans, goblins, or natural events destroy the boulders, shouldn’t have taken too long.
During my hibernation, I had ‘dreams’ of what the world I woke up to would look like. I remember being dazzled by stories of what humans were capable of, but it may just be a myth made up to give little hatchlings nightmares. Or, or maybe the goblins which roamed practically everywhere where dragons walked or flew, they all seemed to respect dragons like the superior beings we are, compared to them at least we dragons are superior, we are nowhere near the level of being a spirit which would deserve all worship they get. Or possibly an insane tornado or hurricane will knock the boulders out of the way within a few days and what wakes me is going to end up being a curious animal.
When I did finally wake up, I was treated to the sight of the boulders which trapped me in crumbling down letting the moonlight shine inside my cave. I stayed low to the cave floor as I heard something let out a scared scream. From the small opening, I saw practically nothing but trees outside, to the point of a few trees even blocking the entrance ever so slightly.
I felt myself cowering slightly, a part of my mind imagining a knight wearing full metal armor, wielding a javelin to stab me from afar. Or maybe a group of knights with shields and maces! Maybe sleeping until a civilization formed, wasn’t such a good idea. I immediately regret my decision.
I backed up slowly, trying to make as little sound as possible. The screaming stopped as a light blue colored object got flung from one side of the entrance to the other. It stood up on its four legs. had a silver mane and tail. And a spike. Growing from its head. The creature looked saddened for a moment before looking in my direction.
It looked to be smiling now, I was at this point praying that it didn’t see me. Seriously, though, what sort of creature looks like a horse but has a spike growing from its head, it may be just an artificial piece of armor that it wore for protection which was colored the same as the rest of its body, and I just can’t see the straps holding it in place. Perfectly logical explanation right?! Right?!
That is until it began to glow purple. Whaaat? Three rocks roughly the same size as the creature in question began to levitate off the ground revealing a beaten and crumbling structure on wheels, due to my limited knowledge I don’t know of its name. But it's named is not important, the fact a horse with a horn that has freakin magic was in front of me! I heard tales of wizards being able to use magic like this, and what their magic was capable of doing.
Two ways this might go now. This magic horse will blast me with a spell that turns me into a potato or something crazy, or when the horse sees me it will hopefully run away in terror due to my appearance. Fifty-fifty chance on living or dying right now, just have to hope fate will be kind to a sleepy dragon.
The horse let out several mumbles I couldn’t quite make out, it levitated a small cloth and a torn pillow out from the structure. A final late boulder falling down and smashing whatever was left of the structure. It then walked closer to me and stopped just before the light of its horn could reach me, lucky break for me I guess. Not so much for this horse, though.
I looked closer at the horse, I recognized that it was likely a female, purple eyes, and tears streaming down her cheeks. She lay on the cave floor, using the cloth as a way to soften the floor. She used the cloak she wore on her back like a blanket. I felt pity for this creature, it’s luck must be terrible right now! It’s home being destroyed by rocks, forced to sleep in a dark cave which for any other creature than a dragon would be unbearably uncomfortable. And on top of that, a dragon is in the cave with this poor creature, I almost want to kill it now, ending its suffering, but it has a whole life to live, one bad day can’t destroy its life. Unless its entire life has been bad… Then I might end its suffering.
I crept silently to the entrance of the cave and examined the destroyed structure to see if anything could be salvaged. After a moment of digging through the destroyed wood, I managed to find a picture of the horse as what looked to be a child wearing the purple wizard-like hat. It was adorable, and I say that with all the masculinity I can.
The Great And Powerful Trixie was engraved onto the frame of the picture. That was her title… “The Great And Powerful” was her title. Also named Trixie by the looks of it. I pulled the picture out of the wreckage and laid it in front of Trixie if that was actually her name.
I crept backwards until I was outside of the cave, I looked to the once empty valley and saw thousands of trees. And a dozen cities and towns. The moon's light did well to light everything up for me as I looked over everything. There was a large city attached to a mountain side, a city in the desert, a city in the center of it all by a massive forest and even a city in the sky made of what looked to be clouds!
I was about to take off into the night sky and explore, but I thought of how most creatures would be sleeping, and it would be rude to awaken them all by my need to get a closer look at everything. It can wait, besides, it will only be a maximum of six hours before the sun rises, assuming this horse stayed up most of the night just looking for my cave.
I snuck back inside the cave, taking care to make sure not to wake the horse and lay back in the shadows, I decided I would just take a small quick rest to pass the time, hopefully, I don’t end up sleeping another thousand years or so.
When I woke up the horse. She was still sleeping despite the sunlight shining into the cave and was inches away from shining into her eyes.
I patiently waited maybe five seconds before the sunlight was shining onto the horse. She woke up in a second and was standing up in less than that. She looked at the picture frame confused before saying “How did this get out..” Then made her horn glow, which again was mere inches away from revealing me.
“Is anypony around? Hello?” The horse said changing ‘anyone’ and ‘anybody’ to.. AnyPONY… A type of horse. I am close enough, I don’t care for the terminology of horses. After a moment of awkward silence, she said again “Hello? Is.. Anybody in here...” The pony said cringing a little. Her expression quickly went from cringing to straight up terrified, likely seeing the reflection of the light in my eyes.
Her gaze locked right on me, she definitely could see me. I took a moment to think of a way to talk to this pony. If she was powerful it may help in the long run to make her a friend. But then again.. I never tasted pony meat before.
I make a devilish grin stepping into the sunlight which now engulfed the entire cave, I stretched out my wings and lowered my head until my eyes were at her level, she was trembling before me, she was motionless, as though she thought my vision was based on movement.
“Who pray tell… Are you?” I asked seeing if she could answer the most simple of questions, she stuttered for a moment before responding with “T-Trixie, the Great! A-And Powerful..”
She began to back up but I reached my tail around and blocked her from backing up any further.
“Great and Powerful are you? Then why do you fear a simple dragon?” I mused making a large smile, it felt good being on the other end of the stick for once, growing up in the dragon homeland I was the one being threatened and beaten up. It felt both good and depressing to be doing it to someone else.
“I-I don’t! I.. I am just caught off guard is all!” Trixie retorted trying to act tough. But one small growl and she went back to cowering.
“You have awoken me after hopefully over a thousand years of deep slumber. I do not wish you any harm little pony. That is unless you decide to enact harm upon me. An eye for an eye and all that.” I said pulling my tail away and folding in my wings. Trixie started at me with a wide eyed expression, like she was surprised I wasn’t just going to devour her which I was tempted to do.
“Your… You not going to eat me for trespassing in your cave and waking you?” Trixie asked sounding genuinely surprised.
“Of course, besides, this isn’t exactly my land, nor my mountain, so this isn’t exactly my cave in a sense. Just do me a small favor little pony. Tell me of this land.. And the other creatures which populate it. I flew across the ocean to here before any structures of any kind where around.”
“You were!” Trixie exclaimed looking me dead in the eyes. I simply nodded with a smile.
“That… That means you flew to Equestria possibly 2500 years ago! If there was no buildings at all.” Trixie said as I felt a twisted feeling inside my heart 2500 years… Assuming Frostbolt didn’t hibernate for that long that would mean she likely would have changed dramatically. And odds are she gained her spark by now.. And found a mate and started a family.. But.. It’s in the past… Not.. Important.
“Twenty-five… Hundred years…” I muttered turning to the exit of the cave, the sun was blinding as ever. One thing I was hoping would have changed.
“Yes.. Give or take a few years, but still. Um, are you alright?” Trixie asked who could probably tell something was wrong.
“Of course. Just some bad memories” I said lying, for once I was superior to something other than a goblin, made me feel good.
“Well if you desire to see the rest of Equestria, I would recommend not flying over any cities. Might give a few ponies.. More than a fright.” Trixie said walking backwards away from me towards the exit.
“What is your name might I ask?” Trixie said tilting her head to the right-which was her left. So much for being scared?! Like the idea of a dragon being older than the land she grew up in suddenly changes the fact it might want to eat her.
“Tahrovin” I said quickly feeling the instant need to spread my wings and fly. They haven’t been in use for apparently 2500 years, I needed to fly if even for a moment.
“Wait, c-could you maybe explain what Equestria looked like to The Great and Powerful Trixie?” She said referring to herself in the third person... Something she had not done once in the conversation. Which struck me as odd.
“Um… Okay.” I started but was cut off by Trixie who said “Explain things I already know, Trixie wants to know how it looked from a dragon's point of view.” Trixie said with an admittedly adorable smile.
“Well. We begin apparently 2500 years ago if you are correct.” I started with a smile watching the Trixie's eyes light up as I spoke. Figuratively lighting up of course.

I actually call it a boring waste of time.” I said gripping my claws against the stone ground, Trixie sat back onto her haunches then I began to explain, everything.
