Chapter Two: An Unforseen Call
Adagio sat on a bench in Canterlot Park, enjoying the cool morning air. It had been two weeks since her emotional breakdown. She still wasn’t sure why it happened but, in a way, she was glad it did. Ever since that night, she had been sleeping much better, she was no longer waking up in the middle of night or having nightmares of any kind. She was talking much more with Aria and Sonata, and even getting out of the house. For the first time in months, Adagio was feeling like herself again.
Several feet away, Adagio watched as coupled argued with one another. She couldn’t make out everything they were saying but she knew it had to do with one of them cheating on the other. As she watched the couple’s argument get more and more heated, she couldn’t help but think and chuckle to herself, ‘A fight like this would have left me satisfied for weeks had I still –' Adagio's train of thought was cut off as her phone rang.
“Hello?” she answered.
“DAAAAGGGGIIIII!!!!” screamed Sonata on the other end. Sonata’s high pitch voice caused Adagio to instantly pull the phone away from her ear.
“What the hell, Sonata?” Adagio said angrily. “Why are you yelling like that?”
“Aria took the t.v. remote from me and she won’t give it baaaaaack ” Sonata whined.
Aria’s monotone voice could be heard in the background, “Shut up, Sonata. I told you, you had one hour to watch t.v., and then it was my turn”
Adagio placed her palm on her forehead and shook her head. “Please tell me that you are not seriously calling me about a remote, Sonata”
“B-But I had it first and…and Aria is just being a big meanie. Tell her to give it back, Dagi”
Once again Aria chimed in, “I’m not giving it back, Sonata. I don’t care what Adagio says. As a matter of fact, you can give me the phone too. I’m sure Adagio is tired of listening to your annoying voice”
“I’m tired of listening to both of your voices, actually” Adagio mumbled.
“NOOOO, get away from me, Aria” said Sonata.
“Gimme the damn phone, before I break your arm” Aria threatened.
“NO!”
“Uhmmm….guys?” Adagio questioned. “Helloooo , I’m still here y’know” Adagio let out a huge groan as she heard the phone hit the floor.
“OW!” yelped Aria on the other end. “A-Are you serious? Did you just fucking bite me?”
“That’s what you get for taking the remote, you big meanie head” said Sonata matter factly.
All Adagio could do was listen as the two sirens on the other end fought with one another. Sonata could be heard screaming in the distance as Aria swore profusely and hurled death threats at her.
“YOU BETTER PRAY I DON’T FUCKING CATCH YOU, SONATA! CAUSE IT IF I DO, YOU ARE SO BEYOND DEAD!!”
And just like that, Adagio’s peaceful morning was over.
On the other side of town, Sunset Shimmer and her friends were hanging out at their regular hotspot, Sugarcube Corner.
“What can I get for ya, Sunny?” ask Mr. Cake from behind the counter.
“Six strawberry milkshakes with whip cream, please” Sunset Shimmer ordered with a smile.
“AND SPRINKLES!!” yelled a high pitched voice from afar.
“And sprinkles apparently” Sunset said laughing.
“Comin’ right up” Mr. Cake said with a wink as he started making the drinks for his six most frequent customers.
Sunset Shimmer walked over to the booth where her friends were sitting and listened as they conversed with one another. Rainbow Dash and Applejack were engaged, in yet, another heated debate about some hit television show that was utterly butchered when it became a movie; Rarity and Fluttershy were discussing the latest fashion trends; and Pinkie Pie was no longer at the booth. She had taken it upon herself to make sure that their orders were correct by earnestly watching Mr.Cakes every move.
As Sunset Shimmer looked around at her friends, she smiled and thought to herself ' Life really can't get much better than this. I've got everything I could have ever dream of; school is going great and I have six amazing - ' Sunset's thought was immediately interrupted by Rainbow Dash who was snapping her fingers in front of her face.
"Huh...sorry, w-what did you say?" asked Sunset Shimmer.
"I said, your milkshake is dripping and to back me up here" Rainbow answered in the most perturbed voice.
"Uhmm...what exactly am I backing up again? Sunset asked inquisitively, while wiping the excess milkshake residue from around her glass.
Rainbow Dash face palmed and shook her head before dramatically throwing her hands in the air. "THE LAST AIRBENDER!!" she exclaimed. "Applejack believes that the movie lived up to the series but anyone with a brain knows that it was a complete failure"
"Because it did!" Applejack half shouted. "If anything, it exceeded the series original storyline. M. Night Shyamalan's added a whole new dimension to the movie which made the t.v. series that more realistic and believable.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me" Rainbow Dash said incredulously. "Sunset, please tell A.J. how stupid she's being right now"
"Uhhhh ..." said Sunset while rubbing the back of her neck nervously. "I don't actually know what either of you are talking about, so I can't really -"
"WHAT?!?" Applejack and Rainbow Dash said in unison.
"I-I haven't seen the series or movie..." said Sunset. "Is that a bad thing?"
Rainbow Dash slammed her head on the table and repeatedly banged it against the hard surface while cursing to herself.
"I'm sorry, Sugarcube, but how in the world could you not have seen either the series or movie?" asked Applejack. It's been around for ages"
"Well, I-"
"Even I have seen both and I hate those kinds of shows" said Rarity while looking at her nails.
"So, I guess I should probably watch it then?" Sunset asked while looking around.
"YES!!" shrieked Rainbow Dash as she shot up from banging her head on the table. "It's only the greatest television show of all time! Rainbow Dash continued as she stared at Sunset.
Sunset put her hand over her mouth to stop herself from busting out laughing at the large red spot on Rainbow Dash's forehead. "Well, with summer just a couple a weeks away, I'm sure I can make time to binge watch it" shrugged Sunset.
"Unacceptable! We're leaving right now and going to my house" said Rainbow Dash, hopping over the back of the booth.
"Why?" questioned Sunset.
"Because, this can't wait until summer. You need to be educated now" answered Rainbow as she grabbed Sunset by the wrist and led her out the door.
"So...sleepover at Rainbow's?" asked Applejack, looking around at the three remaining girls.
"YAAAAAY" exclaimed all three as they grabbed their belongings and followed Rainbow and Sunset outside.
Adagio stood at the front door listening to the commotion that was going on inside the house. She threw her head back and groaned loudly. She had half a mind to just turn around and walk away from whatever horror lay on the other side, but she knew she couldn't abandon Aria and Sonata like that. So, as to mentally preparing for what she was about to see, Adagio inhaled and let out a deep breath. She then pushed the key into the keyhole and opened the door. Unfortunately, no amount of mental preparation could have prepared her for what she saw. In the small foyer, there was two broken chairs from the kitchen, glass all over the floor, and four holes in the wall. Adagio just stood in the door frame with her mouth wide open.
“Oh…my…God” Adagio said, as she slowly and carefully walked into the house. Adagio's brain was in full shock at her surroundings. She wanted to scream but when she opened her mouth nothing came out.
"Whatcha going to do now, huh?" scoffed Aria from inside the living room.
"Let me go, Ari" cried Sonata. "I'm sorry for calling you a meanie, okay?"
Adagio peered into the living room, only to see a crying Sonata locked in half nelson by Aria.
“Let her go, Aria” Adagio commanded, walking into the living room.
“Or what?” snapped Aria.
Adagio took a step forward and glared at Aria with such intensity that it made her blood run cold. Aria couldn’t help but look away from Adagio gaze.
“Fine” Aria said, releasing Sonata from her hold. Sonata scrambled to her feet and hid behind Adagio.
“What the fuck happened here?” demanded Adagio.
“She started it” answered Sonata, pointing at Aria.
“Shut up, Sonata. If you had just given me the remote none of this would have happened” Aria retorted.
“I had it first! If you wanted to watch t.v., you should have gotten up earlier” replied Sonata.
“I would have gotten up earlier if—”
“ENOUGH!!” Adagio yelled as she clapped her hands together. Aria and Sonata went silent. “I don’t care who started it” she continued. Placing one hand on her hip and the other pinching the bridge of her nose, Adagio said in her most threatening voice, “You two have exactly one hour to straighten up this house, or so help me Celestia, I will kill you both”
Just as Adagio was about to walk away, the phone rang. "I'll get it! shouted Sonata excitedly. She was about to run into the kitchen when Adagio grabbed the back of her shirt and pulled her back.
"Watch where your stepping, idiot" Adagio said, pointing to the floor.
Sonata's looked down to where Adagio was pointing and saw the pile of shattered glass under her foot. She looked back up at Adagio and said with a smile, "Oops." Sonata stepped to the side to avoid the glass and walked carefully to the kitchen and picked up the phone.
"I was kind of hoping she'd step on that" said Aria with a smirk.
"Shut up, Aria" said Adagio blatantly as she sat down on the couch.
After a few short moments, Sonata returned to the living room. She stood in front of Adagio and held out the phone. "It's for you"
"Who is it?" Adagio asked.
"I dunno."
"What do you mean you don't know?" questioned Aria. "Didn't you ask who it was?"
"Uhmm ...no."
Aria groaned and rolled her eyes.
"Gimme the phone" Adagio said as she snatched the phone from Sonata. "Hello? Who is this and how did you get this number?"
Sonata sat down on the floor next to Aria and the two watched as Adagio conversed with the mysterious voice.
"Uh huh...oh are you now...and what makes you think we'd even want to come back, hmm?" said Adagio in an exasperated tone.
Aria and Sonata looked at each other in bewilderment.
"Who is it, Dagi?" Aria whispered.
Without looking at her, Adagio held up her index finger to Aria and continued her conversation.
"Help?" Adagio said indignantly. "We don't need your help, we're doing just fine on our own, thank you...uh huh...well, I guess that's your fault for assuming we were homeless"
"Homeless?" Sonata said, scratching her head.
"I appreciate the offer but, I'm gonna have to decline. So, thanks for the calling, bye-bye now" said Adagio as she hung up the phone.
"So, for third time today, who was that? asked Aria.
"Principal Celestia" Adagio answered flatly.
" The fuck does she-"
Aria was interrupted by the sound of the phone ringing again.
"Seriously ?" Adagio grumbled as she answered the phone again. "Look, I already told you, we don't...misunderstood?...WHAT!?!" Adagio shot up from the couch and was angrily pacing the floor. "What the fuck do you mean 'mandatory '?!...if that was the case, why the hell did you phrase it like we had a choice?" Adagio asked furiously. "Oh, you were being courteous, well, gee, thanks!" said Adagio sarcastically. "Yeah, we'll be there...okay, I got it...I SAID WE'LL BE THERE! Goodbye!" Adagio hung up the phone and threw it on the couch.
"Soooo , I'm assuming that was Celestia again" said Aria.
"Yes" muttered Adagio as she walked out of the living room, up the stairs, and into her room.
Aria got up and stood at the bottom of the stairs. "Well, what did she want?"
"WE'RE GOING BACK TO SCHOOL!!" Adagio yelled and slammed the door.

Another chapter down, thank Celestia. I had soooo much fun writing this. It is a lot of dialog, so if you don't like that sort of thing...sorry, not sorry.
I will be going on spring break next week so, when I'm not working, I will be writing. Hopefully, I'll be able to get some more chapters out rapid fire for you guys.

Chapter Three: An Unforseen Call Pt.II and A Secret Revealed
Sunset Shimmer's eyes were glued to the television as she shoved a handful of popcorn in her mouth. She and Rainbow Dash had been binge watching Avatar: The Last Airbender at Rainbow's house since 11 a.m...it was now 6 p.m. They probably would have been done with the series already but Sunset insisted on getting the full experience. She wanted to watch every bonus feature on each disc and she kept asking Rainbow Dash to pause the episode every time she had a question.
"PAUSE IT!! D-DID AANG JUST DIE?!? Sunset yelled, looking at Rainbow Dash with a look of fear and shock on her face. "HE CAN'T DIE!! HE'S THE FUCKING AVATAR!!"
Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes and pushed 'pause' yet again. "Relax, Sunny" said Rainbow Dash flatly. "He's not dead"
Sunset hit Rainbow Dash in the face with a pillow.
"Hey! What the hell was that for?" shouted Rainbow Dash.
"Don't tell me what happens!" Sunset said angrily.
"Well, you asked..." Rainbow muttered softly.
As the episode came to an end, Rainbow Dash stood up and stretched. "Maybe we should take a break, I'm getting kind of hungry"
"We can't take a break! We still have another Book to watch, not to mention the movie!" declared Sunset.
"It's not like its going anywhere...I own the entire DVD set and the movie"
"If the movie is as bad as you say it is, why do you own it?"
"Uhhhh ....that's not important" Rainbow said sheepishly. "I'm gonna go call Fluttershy and tell her and the rest of the girls to bring some food over" and with that, Rainbow Dash ran into the kitchen as fast as should could to avoid further embarrassment.
"Fine, but hurry up or I'm going to start without you!"
Anyone who had ever met Fluttershy knew that she lived in a world of fear and anxiety. Ever since she was a small girl, one thing that Fluttershy hated the most was talking to people. For this reason, Fluttershy would try to avoid talking to people as much as possible. Unfortunately, this caused her to develop somewhat of bad reputation among her peers. Many people thought that Fluttershy was a stand-offish bitch, who felt like she was too good for everyone. As a result, she didn't have many friends outside Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Pinkie, and Sunset; but she was okay with that.
Aside from her normal group of friends, Fluttershy only had one other group of friends that she spent time with. This group of friends made Fluttershy feel on top of the world. According to Fluttershy, they were the ideal best friends. They never talked bad about her, they were always there when she was feeling sad or wanted someone to talk to, and most importantly, they accepted her just the way she was. This group of friends were none other than many different kinds of woodland creatures that lived with her.
Of all the creatures that Fluttershy loved and cared for, none had heart like her pet rabbit, Angel. She knew that Angel could be a stubborn, rude, mean, and a nuisance at times, but Fluttershy also knew that he loved her just as much as she loved him. Tonight, however, Angel was in one of his stubborn moods.
"You have to eat dinner before dessert" said Fluttershy, as she pushed the bowl of chopped up lettuce leaves and carrots toward the little rabbit. "No exceptions"
Angel looked at the food and pushed it away with his foot.
"Please eat your food, Angel. If you don't you won't get big and strong like all the other bunnies" Fluttershy said, pushing the bowl forward again.
This time, Angel kicked the bowel over and stuck his tongue out.
Fluttershy was starting to get annoyed at the little bunny's antics, but she took a deep breath, placed the food back in the bowl, and tried again. "C'mon, Angel. It's really good" Fluttershy said as she picked up a carrot and took a small bite. "Mmmmm , see, delicious! Now it's your turn" Fluttershy said as she put the carrot in front of Angel's face in hopes that he would eat it.
Angel looked at the carrot and then at Fluttershy who was now grinning half-crazily. Then he smacked the carrot out of Fluttershy's hand and hopped away.
Fluttershy gasped as she watched the carrot roll under the couch. When she turned her gaze back to Angel, her face was red with anger. "Fine...if you don't eat now, then you don't eat at all" Fluttershy said as she picked up the bowl of food and walked in the kitchen. Just as she slammed the bowl on the table, her phone rang.
"WHAT!" answered Fluttershy angrily.
"Uhhhh ....Fluttershy? responded the voice on the other end.
"Oh sorry, Dashie, I mean, hello" Fluttershy said in her normal, sweet voice.
"What are you up to?"
"Oh, uhm, I was trying to feed Angel"
"I'm guessing that didn't go so well" Rainbow Dash laughed.
"No, sadly..." Fluttershy said in a disappointed yet annoyed tone.
"Well, you feel like bringin' me and Sunny some grub?"
"Sure, what would you like?"
"Pizza, duh " said Rainbow Dash jokingly. "Oh, and are you guys still sleeping over?"
"I am. I'm not sure about the others. We all kind of got bored after three straight hours of watching t.v...so we left. You and Sunny didn't even notice." Fluttershy chuckled. "You want me to give them a call?"
"Yeah, call all Pinkie first, she'll mostly want to still come over. Maybe she can grab us some dessert from Sugarcube Corner on her way here"
"Sounds good! I'll see you and Sunny in a bit"
"Don't forget the pizza!"
"I won't" laughed Fluttershy as she hung up the phone.
Rainbow Dash stared in amazement at Sunset who was reciting the entire opening monologue of the The Avatar .
"Water... Earth... Fire... Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang. And although his airbending skills are great, he still has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone" Sunset said as she stood and raised her fist in the air. "BUT I BELIEVE AANG CAN SAVE THE WORLD!!"
'What...have I done? ' Rainbow Dash shook her head and thought to herself.
Just then there was a knock at the door. Rainbow sprang up from the couch and sprinted towards the sound. She flung open the door and quickly grabbed the pizza out of Fluttershy's hands and ran to the kitchen.
"I guess someone's hungry" giggled Pinkie as she and Fluttershy walked into the house.
Fluttershy and Pinkie dropped their bags on the living room floor and sat on the couch. "Hey, Sunny!" Pinkie said cheerfully. "You're still watching this silly show?"
"Hey" said Sunset as she raised her hand, absent-mindlessly acknowledging the girls presence.
Pinkie and Fluttershy looked and each other and shrugged.
"Don't bother trying to talk to her" Rainbow Dash said, leaning against the door frame as she took a huge bite out of her pizza. "She's been sitting there for the past hour"
"Why is there popcorn in her hair? questioned Fluttershy.
"I got bored waiting for you guys to get here with the food" Rainbow said, taking another bite of her pizza.
"SHHHH!! I'm trying to watch here!" said Sunset as she whipped her head around and held her arm out to the t.v.
The three girls stared at Sunset in silence and concern. "Maybe we should move to the kitchen" said Rainbow Dash quietly. The other two girls nodded and made their way into the other room.
"That was intense" whispered Fluttershy.
" I know! Sunny was sporting a pair of crazy eyes like I've never seen before" said Pinkie.
"Don't worry" said Rainbow Dash nonchalantly, taking another bite of her pizza. "She'll be fine. I was the same way when I watched it"
"Hey, where A.J. and Rarity?" asked Pinkie. "Are they not coming over?"
"Applejack had a last minute delivery, Rarity is giving her a hand" Fluttershy said, taking a slice of pizza. "They'll be over once they're done"
Rarity and Applejack had been driving for the past two hours. They were taking three crates of apples to a small town that was just outside the city.
"So, where exactly are we going again?" asked Rarity.
"To a local grocery store up in White Tail. The owner needs an emergency shipment of apples to get him through the weekend"
"I see, but if it's such an emergency, wouldn't it make more sense to have one of the closer farms deliver to him?"
"I suppose it would, but Mr. Hoffield prides himself on sellin' fresh, organic products. Both of which are a guarantee at Sweet Apple Acres" said Applejack while winking at her friend.
"No argument there!"
"Thanks, for drivin' me, by the way. I woulda had to wait, gods know, how long for Big Mac to return with the truck if you hadn't offered" Applejack said as she tipped her hat as a symbol of gratitude.
"Think nothing of it, darling! This is better than sitting around all night watching that children's show"
"Heeeyyyy , that show happens to be very good. You even said so yourself"
"I meant when it was on t.v." Rarity said rolling her eyes. "Which was years ago. You and Rainbow act as if it's still on"
"Well, it beats watching those fru-fru model and fashion shows" Applejack said resentfully.
"Fru-fru?! American's Next Top Model is anything but fru-fru. It is the epitome of grace, beauty, and elegance; and Project Runway gives young designers, like myself, a chance to follow their passion and create magnificent works of art! Not only that, but both -"
"Okay, okay! Don't go gettin' your panties in a bunch" Applejack said throwing her hand up. "It's not fru-fru..."
"Thank you" Rarity said in satisfied tone.
"It's also boring" said Applejack with a smirk.
Rarity stared icily at the cowgirl who was now laughing at her own wit. Rarity growled as she clenched the driving wheel.
"You should see the look on your face!" said Applejack, continuing to laugh.
Rarity took a deep breath and calmly responded. "Y'know, you are more than welcome to walk the rest of the way"
"Oh, c'mon now. I t'was only jokin!" Applejack said while whipping a tear from her eye. "Besides we're almost there. Turn left up here"
After several minutes the two girls had reached their destination. Rarity popped the trunk and observed as Applejack unloaded the three heavy crates from the car and neatly stack them on top of one another. Rarity couldn't help but be amazed at her friend's strength. She watched as Applejack's arm and legs muscles flexed as she lifted the crates up with ease from the ground. As Applejack walked towards the store, Rarity could also see the cowgirl's tight back muscles through her slightly transparent shirt.
'Damn Rarity thought. Applejack is kind of hot'
Wait...what? What am I even saying right now? I can't be into Applejack...she's, like, one of my best friends...that would be so...wrong'
Rarity tilted her head to the side and continued to admire Applejack's physique. 'But then again, I never knew Applejack had quite the body on her'
'No, Rarity, snap out of it! There's no way in hell-'
"I'll just be a minute" said Applejack. "You can just wait here"
Rarity shook her head as Applejack's words brought her back to reality. "Uhm ...right..wait here...me do that" stammered Rarity. "I mean, I'll do that"
However, after watching Applejack fight to keep the crates balanced, Rarity had to ask, "Are you sure you don't need any help, darling?"
"I'll be fine" Applejack said, straining under the weight of the crates as she walked towards the shop.
"You don't like fine" Rarity said keeping in step with her clearly struggling friend. "Just let me help you, A.J."
"I said I got it. Wouldn't want you to chip a nail or get your nice outfit all dirty or somethin"
Rarity gasped at the comment. "How dare you!" Rarity yelled as she ran in front of Applejack and blocked her path to the store. "Just because I prefer not to get all dirty and sweaty, it does not mean that I am incapable of doing any type of physical labor! Now, give me a crate before you drop all three, or worse, hurt yourself"
"Alright, alright!" Applejack said through clenched teeth.
Rarity grabbed the top crate, then she and Applejack continued their walk to the shop. Once they reached the door, both girls dropped the crates on the ground.
"Whew , that was a longer walk than I thought" Applejack said, wiping the sweat from her forehead.
"Probably wouldn't have seemed so long if you had let me help you the first time I asked" Rarity said as she crossed her arms and raised her eyebrow.
"Yeeeaahhh , sorry about that" Applejack said as she rubbed the back of her neck and looked at the ground. "You know how stubborn I can be at times"
Rarity smiled and put her hand on Applejack's shoulder. "It's quite alright, darling! No hard feelings. Now, let's get back to Rainbow's house before the girls start to worry"
"After you" Applejack said, taking off her hat and motioning Rarity to go before her.
Rarity was taken back Applejack's gesture. She had never seen the cowgirl act to so chivalrous before, at least not with her. Rarity could feel the redness in her cheeks swell as walked past Applejack.
'This can't be happening... Rarity thought. 'Am I actually falling for Applejack? Its doesn't make sense...we're total opposites. She's messy and unrefined, and has absolutely no respect for the fashion community. Not to mention, stubborn as a mule!'
But she's also sweet and honest and empathetic and humble. I mean, even though we're different, we've still managed to get along after all these years...right? So, maybe it could work out...
Rarity ran her fingers through her hair and let out a small groan. 'What am I gonna do...I've never felt like this about anyone before. Should I tell her how I feel or-'
"Yo!" called Applejack.
Once again, Rarity was brought back to the present by Applejack.
"Huh" Rarity said, looking dumbfounded at her friend.
"You plan on unlocking the door so we can leave?"
"Oh, right" Rarity said as she fumbled to press the unlock button on her key chain. "Sorry about that"
After short few seconds, she managed to unlock the car doors, and both girls got in.
"Are you alright? asked Applejack as she put on her seatbelt. "You seem distracted"
"Distracted? Why, I...of course not" Rarity chuckled nervously.
Applejack raised her eyebrow. "Right...well, let's get movin' then"
Rarity nodded her head and started the car. "Next stop, Rainbow's house"
"That's it?!? yelled Sunset Shimmer from the living room. "How can that be it?!"
Fluttershy, Pinkie, and Rainbow Dash were playing Uno at the kitchen the as they listened to Sunset rant in the other room.
"What's she going on about now?" asked Pinkie.
"My guess is that she finished the series" said Rainbow Dash as she picked a card from the deck.
"It can't just...just end like that?! continued Sunset.
"Should we check to make sure she's okay?" asked Fluttershy.
"Nah, she'll be fine"
Sunset walked angrily into the kitchen and sat next to Rainbow Dash. "I finished it"
"Annnndddd... " asked Rainbow Dash, leaning close to her friend.
"And it was fucking amazing! But now it's over and I hate everything" Sunset said as she grabbed a slice of cold pizza and bit angrily into it.
Fluttershy, Pinkie, and Rainbow simply laughed and continued their game.
"Where's Applejack and Rarity?" asked Sunset.
"They had an errand to run" said Rainbow. "They'll be here when they're finished" Just as she had finished her sentence there was a knock on the door. "Which I'm guessing they just did"
"COME IN!!" yelled Pinkie.
The door opened to reveal Applejack and Rarity standing on the other side. Applejack stepped to the side and gestured for Rarity to enter. Again, Rarity blushed and walked inside, followed closely by Applejack who closed the door.
"Bout time you loser showed up" said Rainbow Dash.
"Howdy, y'all. Sorry we're late" Applejack waved as she and Rarity entered the kitchen.
"Where were you guys?" asked Pinkie.
"White Tail" answered Applejack as she took a seat next to Pinkie Pie.
"White Tail? What the hell were you doin' up there?" asked Rainbow Dash inquisitively.
"Had an emergency delivery to a local grocery store up there. Rarity gave me a ride"
Rarity simply smiled and took a seat at the head of table.
"Well, now that everyone is here, what do you guys want to do?" asked Pinkie.
"We could-" Sunset was about to speak when her phone rang. When she looked at her phone to see who it was, it was a number that she didn't recognize. "Uhhh... hello?" she answered. "Hi, principal Celestia"
"Principal Celestia?" the girls said in unison.
Rainbow Dash leaned in close to Sunset to try and hear their conversation. However, her head was forcefully pushed away by Sunset who gave her a disapproving look.
Sunset got up from the table and walked into the living room. She was followed by the rest of her friends who eagerly waited for her conversation to end.
"Yes, of course" said Sunset Shimmer. "I'll be sure to let them know. O-okay thanks for calling. Bye" As Sunset hung up the phone, she was immediately berated with questions from her friends.
"What did she want?"
"Yeah, what did she want, Sunny?"
"Are we in trouble?"
"Is everything okay?"
"Why aren't you answering us?"
"GUYS!!" Sunset shouted.
All the girls fell silent and waited for Sunset to speak.
"Principal Celestia called because she wants us meet her and Vice-Principal Luna at the school tomorrow"
"But why?" asked Applejack
"She didn't say"
"Well, what exactly did she say, darling"
"All she said was that she wants to meet with us and talk about the upcoming school year. That's it" replied Sunset.
"What time do we have to be there?" questioned Rainbow Dash
"8. She said to meet in the gymnasium"
"Damn, that's early" Rainbow whined.
"Then I guess we should get some sleep so that we're not late" said Fluttershy.
As the girls made their way from the living room and upstairs to Rainbow's room, Rarity hung back and called out to Sunset who was halfway up the stairs.
"Uhmm...Sunset?
"Yeah"
"Could I talk to you in private for a moment?" Rarity asked nervously.
"Sure" Sunset answered as she walked down the stairs and back into the living room. "What's up?"
Rarity sat on the couch and let out a sigh.
"Is everything alright, Rarity?" asked Sunset as she sat down next to her friend.
"I-I-I don't know" replied Rarity. "I'm not really sure how to explain it"
"Well, just do your best" Sunset said with an encouraging smile.
"Okay, uhm...I...I think I have a crush"
"Really?!" Sunset asked eagerly. "Is is someone from school?"
"Yes, but-"
"Oh my gosh, who is it? Wait, no, don't tell me. I want to guess."
Rarity crossed her arms and leaned back against the couch. "You'll never guess, trust me" she scoffed.
"It is Flash?"
"No"
"Thunderbass"
"No"
"How about Teddy from the football team?"
"No" Rarity said, looking at her nails.
"Oh, oh, I know. Scott Green"
"Not even close"
"Norman? Indigo Wreath? Brawly Beats?"
"No, no, and no"
"Seriously? Okay, is it...Captain Planet?
"Oh god, no. You really think I would have a crush on that eco-hippy?" Rarity said furiously.
"Well, you're not exactly giving me any hints" Sunset said defensively. "I named just about every hot guy in school and you turned them down. So, I'm not exactly sure who-"
"It's not a guy, okay?" Rarity replied in a frustrated tone.
"Oh..."
Rarity groaned loudly as she put her head in her hands.
"Then...who exactly is it, Rarity?"
"If I tell you, you have to promise me you won't tell anyone" Rarity said, looking Sunset dead in the eyes.
"I promise"
Rarity twirled her hair around finger while looking at the ground. Her heart beat faster and faster as she fought internally on how to tell Sunset that it was Applejack that she had fallen for. But every time she opened her mouth to speak nothing came out, she was at a complete lose for words, literally.
Seeing that Rarity was having trouble speaking, Sunset moved closer and wrapped her arm around Rarity's shoulder.
"How about this, you don't have to speak. I'm going to say a name and all you have to do is nod yes or no. Would that make it easier?"
Rarity nodded yes.
Sunset thought for a moment before speaking. "Is it someone close to you?"
Again, Rarity nodded yes.
"Is it someone in this house?"
Once more, she nodded yes.
Sunset took another minute to think. "Is it...Applejack?"
Rarity looked at Sunset in shock. "H-how did you-"
"It's the only match that makes sense" Sunset chuckled.
"But how, we're so different"
"So? That's the beauty about relationships. They consists of two people who have different interests and talents and viewpoints. And one would think that it would be those differences that ruin a relationship, but in reality, it's those differences that build the relationship and help keep it going. I mean, can you imagine being with someone who was exactly like you in every way?"
"I suppose that would become just slightly boring after awhile" answered Rarity.
"Exactly! So, it's not a bad thing that you and Applejack are different. It just means that you complete one another"
"Perhaps you're right, but it doesn't matter" Rarity said sadly.
"Why not?"
"Because she doesn't know how I feel about her and I have absolutely no clue how to tell her or when or if I should even say anything at all. I mean, what if I tell her and she doesn't feel the same way?"
"Well, then at least you'll know"
"I don't know if I can handle that kind of rejection..."
"I think-"
"Hey, are you two gonna stay down there chatting all night, or did you forget that we have to be up early tomorrow?" said Rainbow Dash from the top of the stairs.
"We'll be right up" answered Sunset.
"I guess that the end of that" said Rarity.
"We can talk more tomorrow" Sunset grinned.
"I'd like that, and thanks for listening. You have no idea how good it felt to get that off my chest"
"Anytime!" Sunset said as she stood and gave Rarity a hug. "Now let's get some sleep, I have a feeling that tomorrow is going to be an interesting day"

Old Enemies and New Begnnings
Chapter Four: We Meet Again
Of the three sirens, Sonata was the only one who loved mornings. She loved having the house to herself for the first few hours of the day. She didn't have to listen to Adagio and Aria fight over pointless things, or have to listen to them yell at her and call her names. But the thing Sonata loved most about being up early, was watching the sun rise.
For her, there was something about sitting on the back porch with a cup of warm coffee and seeing that ginormous ball of light fill the sky, which calmed her. It was the one and only time during the day that, for a brief moment, her mind and body was still and focused.
'I wish it could be like this forever...' Sonata thought to herself.
But she knew it wouldn't. Soon she'd feel the need to move or be doing something other than sitting on the porch. Soon her focus would start to slip and the constant flood of thoughts would fill her mind and she'd struggle to concentrate on just one thing at a time. It was a never ending cycle...
Sonata let out a loud sigh and took a sip of her coffee. She watched as the sun rose higher into sky, unaware of the presence standing behind her.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" said the voice.
"Yeah, it is." Sonata said softly, not breaking her gaze from the sun.
Adagio smiled and sat next to young siren. Together, the two watched in silence as the bright star lit the earth. That is, until Adagio's phone alarm went off. She looked at the screen and hit the 'off' button. "C'mon," she said, patting Sonata on the thigh. "I need your help." Adagio got up and walked into the house.
"With what?" Sonata asked while rising from her seat and following Adagio.
"You'll see."
Adagio and Sonata had been standing outside of Aria's door for almost ten minutes. Both girls knew that Aria was not a morning person and that waking her up before 11 a.m., especially on a Saturday, was a death sentence. However, Adagio also knew that time was of the essence; and if they were going to make it to the school on time, Aria needed to get up now.
"You ready?" asked Adagio.
"Why do I have to do this again?" whispered Sonata.
"Because its 6:45 and we need to be at the school by 8." Adagio said in an equally hushed tone.
"But that still doesn't explain why I have to be the one to wake Aria up."
"Look, as shocking as it may be, you possess a certain quality that I don't. A quality that could greatly help us in this situation." Adagio insisted.
"Really ?" Sonata asked joyfully. "What is it?"
"It's what people like to call the 'cuteness factor'.”
Sonata tilted her head and gave Adagio a puzzled look. "The what factor?"
"It basically means that if I try and wake Aria up, she's going to kill me. But if you wake her up, she might spare you because you’re cute and whatnot." Adagio explained.
"Ohhhhh , okay." Sonata smiled. She was about to knock on the door when Adagio caught her wrist.
"You can't knock, that will make too much noise."
"Oh, right." Sonata laughed and placed her hand on the doorknob. She turned the handle and slowly pushed the door open to reveal the peacefully sleeping siren. "What now?" she asked, looking at Adagio for guidance.
"Go inside, I'm right behind you."
Sonata grinned and nodded. She tip-toed into the room and gradually started making her way to where Aria was sleeping. As she got closer she could hear the light snores that were coming from Aria's bed. Sonata's heart to beat faster as the thought of having to wake Aria up made her more and more nervous. She was about halfway to Aria's bed, when she froze.
"Adagio?" she called out quietly.
"What?"
"I can't do it."
"What do you mean you can't do it?" Adagio whispered harshly.
"I'm not sure the cuteness factor is going to work."
"Ugh,” Adagio groaned. "It's going to be fine, Sonata.”
"B-but what if is its not? What if she tries to kill me?”
Sonata felt Adagio's hand on her shoulder.
"I'm not gonna let her hurt you, okay? Just keep moving." Adagio said confidently.
Sonata nodded and once more began making her way to Aria's bed. As she walked, one of the floor boards creaked when she stepped on it. Sonata's heart stopped. She looked down at where she had stepped and then up at Aria. Aria's covers rustled as she turned in her bed. Sonata sighed in relief and glanced back at Adagio.
"Keep going," Adagio mouthed.
Sonata gave her thumbs up, and after a few more carefully placed steps, she was standing right over Aria. "What am I supposed to do now?" she asked.
Adagio stood behind Sonata and looked over her shoulder, "I don't know, try poking her or something."
Sonata poked Aria's cheek several times. "Ari," Sonata called out quietly. "Ari, it's time to get up."
Aria waved her hand as if to swat away whatever it was that was touching her.
"It's not working, Dagi." said Sonata.
"I can see that, retard, I'm standing right here."
"What now?" Sonata asked again.
"Stop asking me that." Adagio commanded.
Sonata turned and faced Adagio. "Well, this was your idea." Sonata said, pointing at Adagio.
"Just because it was my idea, doesn't mean I have think of everything . You have a brain too, y'know."
"Oh really ,” said Sonata, placing her hands and her hips. “Because I thought I was a retard."
"Ughhhh , we don't have time for this, Nata." Adagio whispered loudly. "Just wake up Aria."
"No." Sonata pouted.
"Sonataaaa," Adagio whined. "Please don't do this."
"I'm not doing anything until you apologize," Sonata said, crossing her arms.
"I am not apologizing." Adagio said flatly.
"Well, then, I'm not waking her up."
Adagio growled and clenched her fist at her side. "Quit being such a baby!" she half yelled.
"Oh, so now I'm a baby?" Sonata said, no longer whispering.
"Yes! That's exactly what you're being!"
Aria moaned loudly as she turned and faced away from Sonata and Adagio. Both girls froze. They watched Aria until her movements subsided before continuing their argument.
"Fine," Sonata said, her voice returning whisper. "Since, I'm being such a baby, then you can wake her up." Sonata stepped to the side and stared at Adagio.
Adagio looked Sonata, then at Aria, and then back at Sonata. "T-that wasn't the deal," she said nervously.
What...you scared?" Sonata asked mockingly.
"No…”
"Well, then what are you waiting for?" Sonata said with a smug grin.
"Fine." Adagio said sharply.
Adagio took a step forward and looked down at the sleeping siren. As she reached out to touch Aria's shoulder, Adagio could feel the small beads of sweat forming on forehead as her hand got closer.
"Touch me and I'll break your fingers." Aria said in her usual dull voice.
"Holy shit!" Adagio shrieked as she stumbled back and hid behind Sonata.
Aria sat up in her bed and stretched, "What the fuck are you two doing?" she asked.
"We came to wake you up," Sonata answered.
"Why?"
"Because we have to go to school."
"On a Saturday? Aria asked, raising her eyebrow.
"Yes!" cheered Sonata.
"No," Adagio corrected, stepping out from behind Sonata. "We have a meeting with Principal Celestia about school and if we're going to make it on time, we need to leave soon. So, get your ass up and get ready...now."
"Yes, mother," Aria said sarcastically.
"Fuck you, Aria."
"I know you want to." Aria winked.
"Oh please ," Adagio said, waving a dismissive hand as she turned and walked towards the door.
"You don't have to beg, Dagi." Aria taunted. "I'm right here."
Adagio gave Aria the middle finger as she exited the room and slammed the door.
Aria and Sonata laughed and gave each other a high five.
"I think she's pissed." giggled Sonata.
"Oh, totally," Aria replied triumphantly as she got out of bed. "Now c'mon, let's get ready before Adagio has an aneurysm."
Rainbow Dash blinked several times as a bright beam of light shone through her window and onto her face. In the attempt to block out the suns harsh rays, she placed her left forearm over her eyes and moaned sleepily. With her other hand, she reached for her phone that was resting on the nightstand; but as she did, her hand hit something hard.
"What the-" blurted out a voice.
Rainbow Dash gasped as she dropped her arm from her face and looked to her right. There, lying next to her, was Sunset Shimmer nursing her nose.
"What the hell, Dash?" Sunset groaned, as she propped herself up on her elbow.
"Sorry," Rainbow chuckled. "I was reaching for my phone...think you can hand it to me?"
Sunset turned and grabbed the phone off the nightstand. "Here," she said, handing the phone to her friend.
"Thanks," Rainbow yawned, as she pressed the 'home' button on her phone and looked at the time. "FUCK!" she cursed as she threw off her covers and scrambled out of bed.
Sunset sat up and rubbed the sleep from her eyes. "What?" she asked.
"It's 7:30!"
"WHAT?!?" Sunset yelled as she shot of out of bed. "Not good, not good, not good," she repeated to herself as she grabbed her clothes off the floor and darted to the bathroom. "Wake up the others!" Her voiced trailed as she ran down the hall.
"The others...right," Rainbow said, looking frantically around at her sleeping friends. She bent down to the closest girl next to her and began shaking her wildly. "Applejack!" she exclaimed. "Get up!"
Applejack mumbled incoherently as Rainbow shook her.
"C'mon, A.J., we gotta go!"
"Quit it, Dash" Applejack grumbled tiredly.
"Arrggghhh , fine!" Rainbow Dash raged. "You brought this on yourself."
SLAP!
Rainbow smacked Applejack across the face. "GET! UP!" she shouted.
Applejack squealed as her eyes flew open at the sudden pain on her cheek. She sat up and glared at Rainbow Dash while rubbing her cheek.
"You alive?" Rainbow asked.
"Yeah," Applejack replied. "But too bad, you ain't"
"Good. Wait...wha- Ahhhhhh !!"
Applejack leapt on Rainbow Dash faster than she could blink. The two wrestled for several moments, until Applejack got the upper hand.
When Sunset returned to the room, she saw Rainbow Dash caught in a tight headlock by Applejack. "Oh, you have got to be kidding me!" she said angrily. Sunset stomped over to the two girls and pulled them apart. "Enough! We don't have time for this!" she said, eyeing both girls dangerously. "You had one job, Rainbow! What the hell happened?"
"She started it!" Rainbow said, pointing at the cowgirl.
"Me ?!" Applejack snapped. "You-"
"It doesn't matter!” Sunset interjected. "Just help me wake everyone up."
Within a matter of minutes, all six girls were up and dressed. They gathered their things and stampeded down the stairs. Sunset flung open the front door and allowed the other girls to pass her. She took a quick glimpse back into the house just to make sure that no one had dropped anything of importance. Satisfied that everything was in order, she slammed the door and regrouped with the others.
"Gimme your keys" Rainbow demanded as she held out her hand to Rarity.
"Why?" Rarity asked, reaching into her purse for her keys.
"Because, I'm driving."
Rarity handed her keys to Rainbow Dash; who unlocked the car, allowing everyone to pile in. Fluttershy, Pinkie, Rarity, and Applejack squeezed into the back, while Sunset hopped into the passenger seat.
"Time check?" Sunset asked while she put on her seatbelt.
"7:40," answered Pinkie with a giant grin.
Sunset look at Rainbow Dash, "Think you can make it, Dashie?" she said, grinning deviously.
Rainbow turned the key in the ignition and the car came to life. "Can I?" she asked, tapping the gas pedal. As the engine revved, Rainbow placed her hand on the gearshift. "They don't call me Rainbow Dash for nothin'!" she declared.
In one swift move, Rainbow Dash shifted into 'drive', released the brake, and slammed her foot on the accelerator. The car did a small burnout at the sudden movement and then bolted down the street.
It was 7:45 when the Dazzlings arrived at the school. They had been walking for almost an hour; they were tired, hungry, and couldn't wait to be inside the well air-conditioned building.
"Finally!" shouted Aria as she sprawled out on the concrete steps leading up to CHS. "I thought we'd never make it."
Adagio rolled her eyes and walked past Aria. "Oh, quit being so over-dramatic," she chided. When Adagio reached the door, she cupped her hands against the glass window and looked inside.
"Is anyone in there?" asked Sonata, who was now sitting next to Aria.
"The lights are on, but I don't see anyone."
Adagio pulled on the door handle but it wouldn't budge. She took a couple steps to the left and tried the next set of doors, but they wouldn't open either. "All the doors are locked too," she sighed.
"What the hell?" Aria said as she stood up and walked up the stairs. "Why would Celestia invite us here only to leave us hangin'? You think this is some kind of prank or something?"
"I don't think so," Adagio said, taking a seat on the top stair. "She seemed pretty serious on the phone."
Feeling left out, Sonata crawled up the stairs and sat between Adagio’s legs. "Maybe we just have to wait until 8," she chimed in.
"Perhaps," Adagio said while idly running her fingers through Sonata hair.
Aria growled and kicked the school door. "This is bullshit! We should just lea-"
Aria's rant was interrupted by a car that abrupt stopped in front of the school. The Dazzlings gave each other puzzled looks before returning their attention to the car. Their eyes widened as they watched the inhabitants of the vehicle get out.
"No...fucking...way," Aria said in disbelief.
In the distance, the Rainbooms were laughing and horsing around with one another, completely unaware of the Dazzlings presence.
"Holy shit, Dashie, you made it here with 10 minutes to spare, “Sunset said, playfully punching Rainbow Dash on the arm.
"I have to agree with Sunny, that was some mighty fine drivin'," Applejack concurred.
"Yeah, Rainbow Dash, that was CRAZY!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed. "First, we were all like WHOOOOAAAA , and then Rarity was like AHHHHHHH , and I was like WHHHHEEEE !!!"
"Thank you, thank you," Rainbow Dash said while taking several over-theatrical bows.
All the girls, except for Fluttershy laughed at Rainbow's antics. Unlike her companions, Fluttershy had noticed the Dazzlings sitting in front of the school. The very sight of her former enemy made she quiver with fear.
"Uhm , g-g-guys, we h-h-have a p-problem," she stuttered.
"What is it, darling?" asked Rarity.
Without another word, Fluttershy pointed towards the school entrance. The girls turned their heads in the direction that Fluttershy was pointing; their mouths dropped as they saw the Dazzlings staring back at them from afar.
"No way," they all said in unison.
The girls quickly huddled together and talked amongst themselves:
"What are they doing here?" asked Applejack.
"I don't know, it's not like we can just go over there and ask them." Rainbow Dashed replied.
"Well...we could, actually," said Sunset.
"How could you even suggest something like that?" demanded Rainbow Dash.
"It's not like we really have a choice. We have to go past them to get into the school, so we might as well find out what they're doing here," Sunset insisted as she looked around the group.
"Fine," Rainbow Dash reluctantly agreed. "But you're doing all the talking since this was your idea."
Everyone nodded in agreement as they broke from the huddle and walked towards the school. As they drew closer, they could see the Dazzlings murmuring to one another. The Rainbooms grew more apprehensive as they approached the Dazzlings, and they too began to whisper amongst themselves. Once they reached the foot of the stairs, everyone fell quiet. Both groups stared at each other, waiting to see who would break the silence first.
Rainbow Dash nudged Sunset in the back, causing her to take a step forward.
"Uh ...long time, no see," Sunset's voice cracked.
The Dazzlings remained silent as their gazed shift from the Rainbooms to just Sunset.
"S-so, what are you guys doing here?" Sunset questioned. "Did you come back to apologize for what happened at the Battle of the Bands?"
Adagio, Aria, and Sonata looked at one another before bursting out in laughter.
"Apologize?" Adagio said wiping a tear from her eye. "Why in Tartarus would we do that?"
"Oh, I don't know, how about because you tried to mind-control the entire fucking school?!" Rainbow Dash spat.
"Look, we did what we had to in order to survive," Adagio said nonchalantly. "We're not going to apologize for that."
"What do you mean in order to survive ?” Sunset inquired.
"We don't have to explain ourselves to you," Adagio reasoned. "All you need to know is that we aren't sorry."
All of a sudden the school doors opened and out walked Principal Celestia, holding a cup of coffee. "Good morning, ladies," she said with a smile. "Please follow me."
"Who?" asked Rainbow Dash.
"All of you," Celestia replied.
"Even...them ?”
"Yes, Rainbow Dash, even the Dazzlings," Celestia reiterated. "Now, please, we have much to talk about."
Principal Celestia turned and walked back into the school. She was followed closely by the Rainbooms and then the Dazzlings. Everyone walked in silence until they reached the gymnasium.
Inside, Vice-Principal Luna was setting up a continental breakfast for the girls in the middle of the gym. In front of the stage, there were nine chairs seated in a semi-circle.
"I know that it is early and that, mostly likely, none of you eaten breakfast. So, I asked Vice-Principal Luna to prepare a little something for you all," said Principal Celestia. "Once you have made your plate, please to a take a seat in one of the chairs by the stage.
The Rainbooms ran over the table and marveled at the assortment of breads, pastries, and fruits that had been laid out for them. Each girl piled as much food as she could on her plate and went to take a seat.
The Dazzlings strolled over to the table after the Rainbooms and took stock of the food that was left.
“They ate all of it!” said Sonata dejectedly.
“It’s like they’ve never seen food before.” Aria said in astonishment.
“Tell me about it…” Adagio mumbled.
All three girls’ stomach’s growled. They were starving, but the food that remained was hardly enough to fill them up.
Adagio looked at the hungry faces of her companions and her heart broke a little. She needed to think of something that would cheer them up.
“Look, let’s just listen to whatever it is that Celestia has to say and, afterwards, I’ll buy you guys a proper breakfast. Deal?”
Aria and Sonata’s faces both lit up at the idea. “Deal!” they said.
“Alright then, let’s get this shit show over with.” Adagio said as she motioned the two girls to follow her.
Principal Celestia hoisted herself up and sat on the edge of the stage. She took a sip of her coffee and waited for the girls to get settled.
"So, why have you called us here?" Sunset asked as she put her empty plate on the floor.
"Well, I've called you, the Rainbooms, here because I have some news that will have a significant impact on your upcoming school year," said Principal Celestia.
"Okay…but why are the Dazzlings here then?"
"The Dazzlings are here because they are the reason your year will be significantly impacted"
"Wait, what?" said Applejack through a mouthful of food.
"As of next year, the Dazzlings will officially be students of Canterlot High School." Principal Celestia proclaimed. "Which they have already been informed about."
Rainbow Dash stood and waved her hands. "Wait, wait, wait," she said. "Back up. How did you even find the Dazzlings?"
Adagio crossed her legs and arms, "Yes, how exactly did you find us?" she asked in a slightly annoyed tone. "On the phone, you said you thought we were homeless."
"That is true," Princess Celestia confessed, taking a sip of her coffee. "Since no one was able to find you after the Battle of the Bands, I tried calling the number you provided the school with. However, it turned out to be number that was no longer in service. I, then visited the address that you gave us, but that information too had been falsified. So, naturally, I thought you were homeless. But then, several weeks ago, I saw you, Aria, and Sonata at the mall and I decided to follow you."
"You what?" Adagio said incredulously.
"The rest was quite simple after that. I followed you home, got your address, pulled some strings with police department; who got in touch with the phone company, and that's how I got your number."
"Damn, she's good" said Aria. “I told you we should've moved to another city, Dagi"
"Shut up, Aria" Adagio ordered.
Sunset scratched her head in confusion, "But why are you telling us about the Dazzlings coming back to school now?"
Principal Celestia hopped off the stage and walked around the semi-circle. “With school just ending yesterday and summer just a couple of weeks away, I figured I'd let you know as soon as possible so that you can be prepared to...deal with one another for this coming school year. Even more so, I did it in the hopes that you all could use the next three months to come together and, perhaps, workout your differences." she explained.
Scattered murmurs of disapproval could be heard throughout the circle of girls, with the exception of Sunset Shimmer, who remained silent.
Principal Celestia held up her hand as gesture for silence. "Now, I know it won't be easy, given your history with one another," she said raising her voice slightly. "However, I strongly believe that all of you have a lot more in common than you think."
Adagio and Sunset’s eyes met for a split second before returning their attention to Principal Celestia.
“I understand that this is a lot of information to process, so I will conclude with this: A wise man once said, that the best way to destroy an enemy is to make them your friend.” Celestia said, pausing to gauge the reaction of each girl. “I hope that each of you have a wonderful summer, and I cannot wait to see all of you in September.” Principal Celestia smiled at the girls and then made her way to the gymnasium exit.
The Rainbooms and the Dazzlings sat in awkward silence for what felt like hours. Each internally contemplating everything Principal Celestia had said. For the Rainbooms, it was one thing to have the Dazzlings return to school, but to actually befriend them? It seemed highly unlikely. And for the Dazzlings, the idea of having to go back to school was something they already hated, now Principal Celestia wanted them to make peace with the girls who had taken away their powers? Never.
Sunset Shimmer didn’t know what to think. One part of her wanted to indulge the idea of becoming friends with the Dazzlings, while the other part knew that even without their powers, the Dazzlings were still dangerous. She felt her brain being torn in two as she argued with herself.
‘Maybe being friends with the Dazzlings wouldn’t be such a bad idea. I mean, both of us did try to take over the school, so we have that in common.
However, Adagio did say that they weren’t sorry for what they did…how can I be friends with someone who doesn’t think they did anything wrong?
But then again, everyone deserve a second chance, right? Even if they aren’t sorry.
Ugggghhhh! Why did Principal Celestia have to propose this idea? Perhaps I should see what the others are thinking.’
Sunset scanned the room and decided to break the silence.
“Well,” she said. “That was…something.”
Her words caught everyone’s attention as they all looked from the ground to her.
“I’ll say,” said Rainbow Dash, crossing her arms and slumping in her chair. “How could Principal Celestia even think we’d consider becoming friends with…them ”
Aria growled softly. “We have names y’know,” she said matter-of-factly.
“As if I care,” Rainbow Dash countered.
“Oh , you’re about to.”
“Bring it!” Rainbow Dash said as she stood and motioned for Aria to come at her.
Aria got up from her chair and cracked her knuckles. She side-glanced at Adagio and waited to see if she was going to stop her, but she didn’t. Aria took this as the ‘go ahead’ to beat the shit out of the rainbow-haired girl. She had only taken a three or four steps towards Rainbow Dash when Sunset stepped in front of her.
“Move,” said Aria in a deathly low voice.
“No.”
“My fight isn’t with you, but if you don’t move, it will be,” Aria threatened.
“No,” Sunset repeated. “I’m not letting you hit her.”
Adagio raised her eyebrow in admiration of Sunset’s tenacity and fearlessness. Besides her, no one had every stood up to Aria like that before. She couldn’t help being slightly impressed.
“Fine then,” Aria said, raising her hand to hit Sunset. “You can take her place.”
Everyone, except Adagio, watched in fear at what was about to happen.
Sunset closed her eyes and braced herself for the impending doom. Aria was about to strike her when a small smack was heard. And then nothing. Sunset slowly opened her eyes and saw the back of someone’s hand in front of her face. She looked to her right only to see Adagio standing next to her. She had caught Aria’s fist just inches away from her face.
“Enough,” Adagio said to Aria.
Aria grunted and yanked her fist from Adagio’s grasp, and then walked away.
“Thank you,” Sunset whispered gratefully.
“I’d keep a muzzle on that friend of yours, if I were you,” Adagio remarked, ignoring Sunset compliment completely. “She, or you, for that matter, may not be so lucky next time.”
Adagio’s words sent a shiver down Sunset’s spine as she watched the siren walk away. At the same time though, she couldn’t believe that Adagio had just saved her ass.
“Let’s go.” Adagio said to Sonata and Aria.
“Are we getting breakfast now?” asked Sonata who was barely able to contain her excitement.
“Yes.”
“YAAAAAAYYYY !!” Sonata cheered, running towards the gym exit.
The Rainbooms watched the Dazzling exit the gym before turning their attention to Sunset who was still in shock at what just transpired.
“Are you alright, Sunny?” asked Fluttershy, placing a hand on Sunset’s shoulder.
“I-I’m fine,” answered Sunset.
“Are you sure, dear?”
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine,” Sunset reassured.
Rainbow Dash gave Sunset a playful noggie, “That was a close one! I thought she was gonna lay you out for sure,” she laughed.
Sunset grimaced at Rainbow’s comment. Something about what she had said rubbed Sunset the wrong way and got her thinking.
“Why didn’t any of you help me?” asked Sunset, turning to face her friends.
“She was about to punch you in the face, Sunny,” Rainbow replied.
“Exactly! So, why didn’t you help me?”
The Rainbooms looked at each other and at Sunset in astonishment and confusion.
“Where is this coming from?” asked Applejack hesitantly.
“It’s coming from a place of ‘where the hell were you when I needed you?’ ” Sunset said angrily. “I mean, you all claim to be friends…to be my friend, and yet, in my moment of need, the only person who stepped up to help me was fucking Adagio; the most hated person in this room and probably the entire school.”
Guilt and shame washed over her friends like a wave. They each struggled to find the words to say that could possibly explain their inaction, but nothing came to mind.
Sunset shook her head and let out a small frustrated chuckle in the attempt fight back her tears. She couldn’t believe that her friends had left her out to dry like that.
“I, uhm…I’m-I’m gonna go,” Sunset choked.
“Sunny…” Rarity said, reaching out to touch Sunset.
“I’ll catch you guys later, okay?”
Sunset turned and ran out the gym, leaving her friends to consider all that she had said.

Chapter Five: One Step Forward and Two Steps Back
Sunset hid behind a car that was parked along the sidewalk, watching the Dazzlings as they waited to cross the street. She had been trailing the Dazzling fors about three blocks. Sunset wasn’t really sure why she was following them or what she hoped to accomplish by doing so, but seeing how she and the Rainbooms weren’t exactly on speaking terms, she figured, why not.
Sunset watched the Dazzlings cross the street and disappear down an alley. She waited a few minutes before moving from her hiding place to continue pursing her targets. She crossed the street and slid into the alley. She walked straight for a few steps before being forced to turn right.
‘Where are they?’ she thought.
Sunset continued until she was again forced to turn again. This time however, she walked into a dead end. Sunset didn’t understand, she had only been a couple of feet behind the Dazzlings the entire time. So, where did they go? She took two steps backwards before she bumped into something. Sunset gasped and quickly turned around. Standing, now, in front of her was Adagio Dazzle.
“Adagio, I was just-”
“Did you really think we didn’t notice you stalking us?”
“I don’t know if ‘stalking’ is the right word…”
“Right, because you were only secretly following us,” Adagio said with a smirk.
“Okay…maybe I was stalking you but-”
“What do you want, Sunset?” Adagio interrupted.
Sunset felt Adagio’s eyes pierce through her very soul. She tried to come up with answer for the siren but every time she opened her mouth, nothing came out.
“Are you broken?” Adagio asked after several seconds of silence.
“I-I’m sorry, I just…I don’t why I’m following to be honest.”
Adagio crossed her arms across her chest and raised her eyebrow.
“I know that doesn’t make any sense but it’s the truth.”
“Okay,” Adagio scoffed as she turned to walk away.
“Wait,” Sunset called out. “Do you think that I could, maybe, perhaps, hang out with you guys?”
Adagio spun back around and faced Sunset. “You want to hang out with us ?” she asked suspiciously. “Why?”
“Well, after you guys left, my friends and I kind of got into a…disagreement, I guess, and well, long story short, I’m not exactly talking to them at the moment.” Sunset shrugged.
“I see…well, because I’m feeling generous , I’ll let you hang with us; but don’t think this makes us friends.”
Sunset nodded and followed Adagio back through the alley. As they walked, Sunset found herself admiring Adagio’s body. There was something about the way Adagio’s hips swayed as she walked that was rhythmic; hypnotic even. Sunset couldn’t bring herself to look away.
‘And that ass,’ Sunset mused. ‘Must’ve taken Adagio an hour to squeeze into those jeans’ Sunset laughed to herself.
As Adagio and Sunset neared the entrance of the alley, Sunset noticed Aria and Sonata leaning against one of the building that made up the side street.
“About damn time” Aria said, pushing herself off the building, “What were two doing back there, making out?”
Sunset blushed at Aria’s comment, “We were just talking actually,” she said softly.
“Uh huh , sure you were.”
“Just ignore her,” Adagio said to Sunset.
The four girls emerged from the alley and continued their walk down the sidewalk. Adagio and Sonata walked in front followed by Sunset and Aria.
Aria wrapped an arm around Sunset’s shoulder and pulled her close. “So, Sunny,” she said enthusiastically. “I hope there’s no hard feeling about, y’know, me almost beating you to a pulp.”
“O-Of course not” Sunset said shakily as she felt Aria’s arm squeeze her body.
“Great!” Aria shouted while releasing Sunset from her grip. “Although, I am a little upset that Adagio intervened. I was really looking forward to hitting something.”
Sunset chuckled nervously and then cleared her throat, “S-So, where exactly were you guys hiding at in that alley?” she asked.
“On the fire escape,” replied Sonata.
“Fire escape?” Sunset responded, looking at Aria in confusion. “What fire escape?”
“The one you walked past after the first turn, silly.” Sonata chuckled. “You didn’t see it because you were too busy looking for us on the ground.”
“Clever,” said Sunset raising her eyebrow.
“It was Dagi’s idea” Aria said as she playfully kicked Adagio in the butt.
The sudden tap on her butt caused Adagio to jump. She whipped her head around and shot Aria an evil glare. “Kick me again and I’ll break your leg.”
“Is that a threat, bubble butt?” Aria teased.
Sonata and Sunset cupped their mouths to stifle their laughter.
Aria motioned to Sunset for her to trade places with her so that she could walk behind Adagio. Once behind her unsuspecting victim, Aria raised her leg and quickly kicked Adagio’s butt again.
Adagio jumped again. “Aria…” she said. “I swear…”
“What?” Aria said innocently. “I didn’t do anything.”
Adagio was trying to keep her cool, but Aria was starting to get on her nerves.
Aria winked at Sunset, then kicked Adagio a third time.
Adagio closed her eyes and bit her lip. “One more time, Aria,” she threatened. “Touch me one…more…time.”
Sunset could hear the poison dripping off Adagio’s words. She looked at Aria who was laughing silently to herself and swallowed as she watched Aria get ready to kick Adagio again.
Aria knew she was skating on thin ice but she couldn’t resist messing with Adagio. She had to see how Adagio would react.
Sonata took one look at Adagio and knew that she was reaching her tipping point. Out of the corner of her eye, Sonata saw Aria get ready to kick Adagio again. She had to think fast. “C’mon, Dagi!” she said as she grabbed Adagio’s arm and yanked her forward.
Adagio lunged forward as Sonata pulled her, causing Aria to miss her target and slightly lose her balance.
“What the hell, Sonata!” Aria yelled angrily.
Sonata smiled slyly back at Aria and flipped her off.
Aria froze in her tracks as her jaw dropped at Sonata’s gesture.
Sunset laughed hysterically and patted Aria on the back, “Maybe next time, girly.” Then she ran to rejoin Sonata and Adagio.
“What was that all about?” Adagio asked.
“Oh, nothing.” Sonata said with a smile, as she draped Adagio’s arm around her shoulder and then wrapped her own arms around Adagio’s waist. “How long until we get to the restaurant, Dagi, I’m starving.”
“I know, it’s just around this corner.”
Adagio, Sonata, and Sunset turned the corner and walked a few feet before entering the small restaurant. They waited in line while the hostess attended to the guests ahead of them.
“Thanks for waiting, assholes.” Aria said as she entered the building a couple minutes later.
“That’s what you get for being a meanie!” said Sonata.
“Shut up, Nata.”
“Leave her alone, Aria.” scolded Adagio, who was still locked in Sonata’s embrace.
Aria folded her arms across her chest and rolled her eyes.
Sunset watched as Sonata whispered something in Adagio’s ear and couldn’t help but wonder what the nature of their relationship was.
“We’ll be right back.” Adagio said while strode she off with Sonata still in her arms. “Sonata has to go to the bathroom.”
“Whatever,” said Aria.
Seconds after Adagio and Sonata walked off, the hostess returned to seat them.
“Table for four,” Aria said.
The hostess grabbed four menus and led Sunset and Aria over to a booth. The two sat on opposite sides and waited for Adagio and Sonata to join them.
“So, what’s up with those two?” Sunset asked, looking through the menu.
“What do you mean?”
“Adagio and Sonata, are they like…y’know, together or something?”
“Uh, no.” Aria snorted.
“Then what’s their deal?”
“They’ve always been like that,” Aria explained, flipping through the menu. “Adagio is like a mother to Sonata, but, at the same time, she’s more than that.”
“How so?”
Aria closed her menu and sighed, “It’s like this; The three of us have known each other since we were kids back in Equestria, but we grew up very differently. Adagio and I were orphaned as babies, we never met our parents. Sonata, on the other hand, had a family but they were really dysfunctional. When things got bad, Sonata always ran to Dagi.”
“Bad, like how?” Sunset asked.
“You’ll have to ask Adagio, it’s not a topic I like to discuss.” Aria said, reopening her menu. “Sorry.”
“No, it’s alright, I totally understand,” Sunset reassured.
Sunset looked around the restaurant and spotted Adagio and Sonata scanning the room for her and Aria. She waved a hand in their direction and called out, “Adagio, over here!”
Adagio did a 180 at the sound of her name being called and saw Sunset waving to her. “C’mon, Nata,” she said as she grabbed Sonata’s hand and walked towards the booth.
Sonata sat next to Aria and took her menu. “Did you guys order yet?” she asked.
“Just drinks, we were waiting for you guys,” said Sunset.
“Well, aren’t you sweet?” Adagio said, sitting next to Sunset.
Sunset caught a whiff of Adagio’s hair as it swished across Sunset’s face when she sat down.
‘Peaches,’ Sunset thought. ‘Adagio would smell like my favorite fruit.’
After reading over the menu for a little while, Adagio signaled to the waitress.
“You girls ready to order?” The waitress said, pulling out a notepad and pen from her apron.
“Yes, those two are going to split the Ultimate Breakfast platter, with sunny-side up eggs and a plate of whip cream.” Adagio said pointing at Sonata and Aria. “She’s just going to take some scrambled eggs and bacon.” She pointed at Sunset. “And I’m going to have the Belgian waffle combo.”
“Okay, I’ll put that right in for you guys.” said the waitress with a smile.
“I wasn’t done.” Adagio said indignantly.
“Oh…I’m sorry, please continue.”
Adagio glared at the waitress and rolled her eyes before continuing, “I would like my waffle lightly crisped around the edges, I would like egg whites instead of eggs, and bacon; crispy not burnt, instead of sausage. I would also like a side of home fries. Lastly, I would like everything on separate plates,” Adagio recited in the most entitled tone ever. “Now , I’m done.”
The waitress stood in silence, not knowing how to respond to Adagio’s demands. “Right, uhm …I’ll just go let the chef know,” she said.
“You do that,” Adagio said curtly. “Oh, and if my food is not made to my liking, you will regret it, got it?
The waitress nodded fiercely, “Y-Yes, ma’am.” she said, and then quickly walked away.
All three girls stared at Adagio, who simply looked at them and shrugged.
“That poor girl,” said Sunset.
“Nonsense, she’s fine.” Adagio said, taking a sip of her drink. "Anyway, I have a question for you.”
“Sure, ask away.”
“In the gymnasium, when Celestia was rambling on about us all becoming friends, I noticed that you were the only one who didn’t seem opposed to the idea, why is that?”
Sunset was somewhat caught off guard by the question. “I, uh, I don’t know. I-I guess I just thought that maybe Principal Celestia was on to something when she was talking about us all having things in common.”
“Such as?”
“I guess, for instance, you and me.” Sunset shrugged.
Adagio raised her eyebrow in intrigue at what Sunset could possibly think that she and her had in common. “Go on.” Adagio nodded.
“Well, we both tried to take over the school and failed…miserably . We-”
“Whoa.” Adagio said, holding up her hand. “Maybe you failed miserably, but I did not.”
“You do know that you lost at Battle of the Bands, right?” Sunset said with a growing smirk.
“Don’t patronize me, I’m completely aware of the outcome of that night.” Adagio snarled.
“So how is that not considered failing miserably?”
“Because we almost won.” Adagio said firmly. “Had you not interfered, we would’ve destroyed your friends and taken over this world.”
Sunset gave Adagio a confused look and shook her head. “So, let me get this straight, you’re blaming me for your failure?” Sunset clarified as she pointed to herself and then Adagio.
“Precisely.”
Sonata and Aria observed silently as Adagio and Sunset argued with one another. “S-Should we say something?” Sonata leaned in and whispered to Aria. But Aria didn’t hear her, she was too busy enjoying the show.
“How the hell is it my fault?” asked Sunset.
“Because you’re the one the Rainbooms needed in order to defeat us.” Adagio retorted as she slowly rose from her seat. “You’re the one who picked up the mic, you’re the one who unleashed the magic, and you’re the reason why I lost my powers; the reason why I lost everything. It’s all because of YOU!” Adagio stood over Sunset’s shaking frame, her eyes burning with hatred.
Sunset’s back was against the booth wall as she stared up at Adagio. She had never been so scared in her life. As she looked into Adagio’s eyes, Sunset could see the hate, resentment, and bitterness that Adagio felt towards her.
“Adagio, I’m so-”
“Don’t.” Adagio interrupted. “I don’t want your fucking apology. I don’t care what Celestia says, you and I will NEVER be friends.” Adagio turned to Aria and Sonata, who sat in stunned silence. “We’re leaving.” she said abruptly as she stepped out of the booth.
“But what about breakfast…” asked Sonata softly.
“I said we’re leaving. Let’s go.”
“But you promised that you-”
“NOW!” Adagio shouted, her voice booming like thunder.
Sonata and Aria moved instantaneously at the sound of Adagio’s voice. As they scrambled out of the booth Aria mouthed the words ‘I’m sorry’ to Sunset.
Sunset watched as the Dazzlings exited the building. “How could I be so stupid?” she said, banging her head against the wall. Everything was going perfect. She and the Dazzlings were having a great time, but then she had to go and ruin it by drudging up the Battle of the Bands.
Sunset sighed and shook her head as she slide out the booth. As she made her way to the exit, she bumped into their waitress.
“I’m guessing you won’t be needing this food then?” the waitress asked.
“I’m really sorry, but here,” Sunset pulled a fifty out of her wallet. “For the trouble.” She handed the waitress the money and walk out the building.

Chapter Six: Arguments and Regrets
The car ride back to Rainbow Dash's house was that of pure silence. Each of the Rainbooms sat pondering the events that had transpired only a few hours before. When they pulled in front of the house, they got out of the car and shuffled into the house.
Being the first one inside, Rainbow Dash made her way into the living and sat on the floor. She watched as the rest of the girls filed in and grabbed a seat. Not being able to take the silence anymore, she decided to speak up. "So, are we going to talk about this or not?"
"I'm not sure there is much to say," Applejack replied.
Rainbow Dash looked around the room of girls in complete disbelief. "Are you serious?" she asked. "Not much to say? How can those words even come out of your mouth?"
"I'm just saying-"
"Princess Twilight tasked us with looking out for Sunset and showing her the magic of friendship, and today, we failed. Today, Sunset Shimmer acted more like a friend than any of us. Hell, Adagio Dazzle acted more like a friend than us, and that's saying something."
"Dashie's right, we really weren't good friends today." Fluttershy added.
Rainbow Dash flickered a smile at Fluttershy before returning her attention to the other girls. "So what are we going to do to fix this?"
"There's not a lot we can do at the moment, I'm afraid." said Rarity.
"What do you mean?" asked Rainbow Dash.
"Sunset doesn't exactly want to talk to us right now. If we try to approach while she's still angry and upset, there's a good chance that we may end up pushing her away."
"Okay, so what are we supposed to do, just sit around and wait for her to come to us?" asked Applejack while she scratched her head.
"Not exactly. We just need to give Sunset some space for a day or so before we try speaking to her. That way, when we do talk to her, she will be more receptive to what we have to say." Rarity explained.
"So what are we supposed to do until then?" Rainbow Dash griped.
"Patience is an art, darling, we simply wait."
Sunset closed the door to her room, flopped face-first onto her bed, and groaned loudly into the mattress. She laid there for several moments before turning over and staring up at the ceiling. There was something bothering her concerning Adagio.
'I just don't get it. If Adagio hates me so much, then why did she stop Aria? Why did she let me join them for breakfast? Why was she so curious about me wanting to befriend them? It just doesn't make any sense...'
Sunset sat up and put her finger under her lip, "Unless, she doesn't hate me and she's just taking her anger out on me because 1) she can't blame Aria or Sonata and 2) it's easier than blaming herself..." Sunset continued her thought out loud. "In that case, I wouldn't be the source of her anger, but rather, her outlet."
At this realization, Sunset scooted off the bed and knelt in front of a chest that was positioned at the foot her bed. She flipped open the lid and rummaged through the plethora of books, articles, and notes that were inside. After a few minutes of searching through the chest's contents, Sunset found what she was looking for. "Aha!" she exclaimed, holding her findings in the air. Sunset whipped her phone out of her pocket and dialed a number while she got up and walked out her room.
"Hi, Principal Celestia, its Sunset Shimmer, but you probably already knew that. Anyways, I have a bit of an awkward request. I know it's not custom for you to give private information on other students out to other students, but after our meeting today, I thought I might try reaching out to the Dazzlings. However, I have no idea how to get in contact with them. So, I was wondering if you could possibly give me the their home address. I wanted to stop by and have a chat with them...yes, I understand...1625 Shady Palm Dr...Thank you...and yes, I promise not to share information with anyone, not even my friends...Thanks again!" Sunset Shimmer hung up her phone and sprinted out of her apartment. Once outside she waved down a taxi and headed towards the Dazzling's house.
It was 12p.m. when Aria was finally able to sit down and enjoy a meal. She poured herself a bowl of cereal, walked into the living room, and sat on the couch. She turned on the t.v. while eating a spoonful of cereal. Just as she about to get comfortable, there was a knock at the door. "Uggghhh , really?" she moaned, as she put her bowl on the side table and got up to answer the door. "I just want to eat, is that so much to ask?" She unlocked the top and bottom lock and opened the door. Her eyes widened when she saw Sunset Shimmer standing in front of her. "S-Sunset?" she asked, looking around outside. "What are you doing here?"
It took a moment for Sunset to register Aria talking to her as she was too busy staring at the sirens attire. Aria was wearing nothing but a purple sports bra and a pair of green boxer shorts. She blinked several times before responding, "Is it alright if I come in?" she asked as she stepped into the house.
"Apparently, it is." Aria replied as she closed the door and re-locked it. "Why are you here?"
"Is Adagio home?” Sunset asked while peering her head into the living room.
"No, she isn't.” Aria replied, walking past Sunset and back to her spot on the couch. “She and Sonata have been gone for the past hour, which means that they will probably be back soon. So, unless you have a death wish, I suggest you leave." Aria grabbed her bowl and resumed eating.
Sunset took a seat next to Aria, "I can't, I need your help."
"My help?" said Aria through a mouthful of cereal. "With what?"
"Do you think what we could be friends?"
"After this morning?" Aria snorted, taking another bite. "Hell no."
Sunset waved her hands back and forth, "Nonono, I don't mean we as in the Rainbooms and Dazzlings, I just mean you and I."
Aria turned to Sunset and stared at her for moment before looking away. "I...I don't know, Sunset. Hanging out with you was fun and all but, I just...I don't think that’s a good idea."
"C'mon, Aria, don't you guys want to put all this Battle of the Band stuff behind you?"
"I have!" Aria shouted as she put her bowl down again and stood by the window. "But Adagio, either can't or won't get past it."
Sunset stood and walked over to Aria, "Okay so help me, help her get past it."
"How?"
"With this," Sunset said while pulling out her notes from the inside of her jacket and handing them to Aria.
Aria took the notes and read the title, "The Frustration-Aggression Hypothesis?" she asked.
"Yeah, I did some research on it back when I was Princess Celestia's student in Equestria. I think this might be what's going on with Adagio. Look at page three."
Aria flipped to said page and read the highlighted area, "Frustration is the feeling of tension that occurs when our goals are blocked, and it can produce aggression which can lead to feelings of aggression and/or aggressive behaviors. Okay, and?"
"Keep going," Sunset insisted.
"Frustrated people will often redirect their frustration onto other people and act aggressively." Aria continued. "What's your point, Sunny?"
Sunset paced the floor as she talked, "My point is, Adagio's goal was to take over the school, when we stopped her, she became frustrated at not being able to accomplish this; which led to her becoming verbally aggressive towards me," she explained.
"So, you think when Adagio was ripping you a new one at breakfast, she was just letting out her frustration about losing at Battle of the Bands?" Aria asked.
"Exactly, I don't think she’s solely mad at me for what happened, I'm definitely a part of her frustration, but I think she's more frustrated at herself than anything."
"You're not wrong," Aria mumbled. "But how do you plan on helping her?"
"Well, when the Rainbooms defeated me, I didn't know what to do. My whole world collapsed...everything that I had worked so hard to build was shattered in an instant." Sunset sighed and took a seat back on the couch. "At first, I was angry, then I felt empty and lost inside...but then the Rainbooms came beside me and helped me to find a new purpose in life. I think that if I can help Adagio in the same way that the Rainbooms helped me, then maybe there's a chance she'd be open to being friends. But I can't do it without you, Aria."
Aria stood in silence, thinking about what Sunset had said. There was no denying that she knew how Sunset felt after being defeated by the Rainbooms, the feelings of anger, emptiness, and hopelessness resonated all too well with not only her, but also with Sonata and Adagio.
'Maybe we do have some things in common' Aria thought. "But why me?"
"Because you're her friend and she trusts you more than anyone."
Aria scoffed and sat down next to Sunset. "I don't know about that."
"Well, it's true. So are you going to help me?"
Aria looked Sunset dead in the face, searching for some hint of maliciousness, but all she could see was warmth and compassion. Sunset really did want to be friends and wanted to help them. Aria rubbed her neck and exhaled deeply, "Alright, I guess we can be friends and I'll do my best to help you get through to Adagio."
Sunset smiled and clapped her hands in excitement, "Yes!" she squealed as she leaned forward and gave Aria hug.
Aria tensed at being touched and chuckled nervously, but didn't push Sunset away. She couldn't explain it but, it felt kind of nice to be locked in someone else's arms besides Sonata's for once. "I think we're good," she said after being held for a several seconds.
"Sorry, I'm a hugger." Sunset chuckled as she released Aria.
"Oh great, another Sonata," Aria joked.
"Speaking of Sonata, where is she and Adagio?"
"I'm not entirely sure, they left shortly after we got home. Dagi felt bad after not getting Sonata breakfast so they went back out."
"Those two always seemed to be joined at the hip."
Aria stood up and stretched, "Pretty much, Adagio has always had a soft spot for Sonata."
Sunset found herself gazing at Aria's body again. Unlike Adagio who was more curvaceous, Aria was more slender and fit. Her muscles we slightly chiseled and her body toned. "So what about you and Adagio?" she asked still admiring Aria's build.
"What about us?" Aria asked as she walked out the living room and upstairs.
Sunset followed Aria up the stairs and into her room. "Well, you said you two were orphans, does that make you guys like sisters or something?” she asked sitting on Aria's bed.
"I guess, I've never really thought about it before." answered Aria as she opened her dresser drawer. "Adagio is a lot of things to me and Sonata, so it's kind of hard to give her just one title."
"How do you mean?" Sunset inquired.
Aria pulled a white wife-beater out her drawer and put it on, "I don't really know how to describe it, it's kind of like; as we grew up, Adagio just became whatever we needed her to be at the time." Aria opened the second drawer, pulled out a pair of long black basketball shorts and black ankle socks, and put them on.
"I'm guessing some of the things she became weren't all good."
"Mostly not," Aria said as she walked over to her closet and took out a pair of black and white sneakers. "Which is partly why she is the way she is."
"I suppose..." Sunset's voice trailed off.
Aria sat on the bed next to Sunset and put on her sneakers. "You have to understand, Adagio isn't a bad person like people make her out to be. She's done a lot of bad things, for sure, but most of the time, she did it with good intentions."
"What about trying to take over the school, what good could have possibly come out of that?"
"That was something entirely different." Aria replied. "It was how we survived in this world." She finished tying her sneakers and stood up. "Adagio is better at explaining it than I am. All I can say is that it was something we had to do." She motioned for Sunset to follow her and together the two walked downstairs and towards the front door.
"Where are we going?" Sunset asked.
"I'm going to play basketball." Aria replied, picking up the basketball that was next to the door. "You can tag along if you like."
Aria unlocked the door and placed her hand on the doorknob. When she opened the door, there stood Adagio. "Uh-oh." Aria said in fear as she stared at Adagio, who no doubt saw Sunset standing behind her.
Adagio slowly entered the house, followed by Sonata. She was about halfway inside when she stopped and folded her arms across her chest. She glanced at Aria, who looked at her briefly before looking away, and then at Sunset who did the same. Adagio could feel the fear emanating from the two girls and she reveled in the fact that her mere presence was enough to do so.
"Well, isn't this a surprise," Adagio finally said, looking at Sunset. "What are you doing in my house?"
"Dagi, she-"
Adagio shot Aria a vicious glare, silencing her immediately. She waved her hand to the side and Aria stepped away from Sunset and stood next to Sonata, who was standing in the living room doorway. She then returned her attention to Sunset. "Well?" she asked.
Sunset's heart was beat fiercely in her chest, she closed her eyes and breathed out, mustering up every ounce of courage she could find. "I came over to talk to Aria-"
"Why?" Adagio interrupted.
"Because I thought she could help me with something."
"That being?"
"Uhm..."
"Aria, why is she here?" Adagio asked without breaking eye contact with Sunset.
"S-She wants to be my friend..."
"Friend?" Adagio asked, turning her head towards Aria. "I thought I made it very clear that we are not going to be friends with her."
"No, you said, you weren't going to be friends with her." Aria pointed out. "That doesn't mean I can't."
Adagio growled and stepped towards Aria, "Are you fucking kidding me? She is our enemy, Aria."
"No, she not. Sunset came to us, Adagio. She wants to be my friend...our friend and she wants to help us."
"We don't need help, we've been on our own for thousands of years, why all of a sudden do we need her?" Adagio questioned.
"Because thousands of years ago, we weren't powerless. She's been where we are, Dagi. She's experienced being the villain, being defeated, and feeling the way we do. Can't you see that?"
"I don't care!" Adagio yelled. "We are not accepting her hand-outs."
Sonata watched as the fight between Adagio and Aria escalated. She had seen them fight like this before and she knew that it was not going to end well. Not feeling safe standing so close to the fighting girls, she moved and stood by Sunset.
"It's not a fucking hand-out, what is wrong with you?" Aria shouted. "Why do you hate Sunset so much? She's done absolutely nothing to you."
"Nothing?” Adagio replied incredulously. “Aria, she's the reason we lost everything!"
Aria shook her head and laughed, "We never had anything to begin with! Everything we ever owned in this world, we lied, cheated, and stole to get."
"We didn't have a choice then and you know that," said Adagio, pointing at Aria.
“Yeah, but now we do.” argued Aria. “Adagio, I am sick and tired of living this way. I’m tired of waking up and feeling like nothing matters, feeling like I don’t matter.” Aria paused and took a deep breath. “Sunset is offering us a chance at a new life, a chance to make new memories, and build new friendships. I want to take that chance, Dagi, and I want you and Sonata to take it with me; but first, you have to let go of the past if you want to move forward.”
All eyes were on Adagio as they waited apprehensively for her to respond. Arms still crossed, Adagio’s demeanor was calm, her eyes never breaking contact with Aria. All of sudden, she started to laugh.
Aria, Sonata, and Sunset exchanged bewildered looks.
“Oh, Aria,” Adagio cooed, regaining her composure. “You, ungrateful…little…bitch.” Her words were at once, seasoned with anger, spite, and hatred.
“Whoa.” Sunset said in shock.
“How dare you,” Adagio said, taking a step towards Aria. “After everything that I’ve done for you, everything I’ve suffered through…”
Aria stood paralyzed while Adagio moved towards her. Sweat poured down her face as she hyperventilated and shook visibly.
“This is how you repay me?” Adagio snarled as she towered over Aria’s shrinking frame, “With…BETRAYAL!!” Adagio punctuated her last word with a back-slap to Aria’s face.
Sunset and Sonata both let out tiny screams as they watched Aria hit the floor.
Aria groaned and slowly propped herself up on her left elbow. She put her free hand to her face to see if she had drawn blood, she hadn’t. From her peripheral, she could see Adagio advancing towards her. “Dagi, please.” Aria begged as she held out her hand and tried backed away. “I’m-I’m sorry.”
Adagio brushed Aria’s hand aside and knelt on one knee next to her. She grabbed Aria by the collar and pulled her close. “Not yet you’re not.” she replied through clenched teeth. Without warning, Adagio jerked Aria up and led her to the still open door.
Sunset and Sonata watched in horror as Adagio stepped out onto the porch and threw Aria off of it like a rag doll.
Aria’s back bounced off the pavement, taking the breath clean out of her. She tumbled some feet away before finally stopping in the middle of the walkway. Her chest heaved heavily as she lay looking up at the blurry sky. With tears streaming down her face, she closed her eyes and tried to sit up, but she was immediately forced back down. When she opened her eyes, Adagio was standing over her. “Ada-arrrgh,” she grimaced in pain as she felt Adagio’s knee land on her diaphragm.
Adagio watched Aria struggle to breathe under the weight of her knee, all while remaining completely expressionless. “If I ever again see your face again, Aria,” she threatened, leaning down to meet Aria’s eyes. “This will be nothing compared to the beating you’ll suffer.” Adagio dug her knee into Aria’s body to accentuate her point. “Do you understand?”
Aria nodded frantically and grunted as Adagio pushed off of her. Still trying to catch her breath, she watched Adagio walk back into the house and slam the door.
Sunset and Sonata couldn’t believe what they had just witnessed. Neither of them dared say a word as they watched Adagio walk upstairs like nothing happened. Sonata waited until Adagio was out of sight before running to the door. She flung it open and saw Aria on her hands and knees.
“C’mon, Sunset!” she cried out as she ran out to aid Aria.
Sunset followed without hesitation. When she reached the fallen siren, her mouth dropped upon seeing the damage that Adagio had inflicted on Aria’s body. Aria’s once flawless skin was now covered in friction burns and bruises.
“Ari,” Sonata said softly as she knelt down beside her friend, who was sobbing uncontrollably.
Aria cried harder when she heard Sonata’s voice. She felt one of Sonata’s hands touch her hand while the other rested on her lower back.
“It’s gonna be okay, Ari.” Sonata reassured.
I…am so sorry, Aria,” came Sunset’s quivering voice from Aria’s other side. “I never meant for this to happen.”
“Help…me…up.” Aria choked.
Sonata and Sunset glanced at each other and nodded. Sonata put Aria’s arm around her neck, then wrapped her inside arm around Aria’s waist. Sunset did the same and both girls grunted as they lifted Aria off the ground.
“SONATA,” a voice rang out.
Sonata looked towards the house,and standing in the doorway was Adagio.
“Shit,” Sonata said under her breath.
Adagio walked over to the three girls and folded her arms across her chest. Her demeanor once again calm.
“Adagio, I-”
“You have two choices, Sonata,” Adagio cut her off. “One, step away from this traitor or two, join her and suffer the same fate if I ever see you again. You have five seconds to decide.”
“Uh..”
“One…” Adagio counted.
“I don’t…”
“Two…”
Sonata bit her lip, not knowing who to choose. Aria was her best friend and she didn’t want to leave her alone, especially now when she was hurt.
“Three…”
But after seeing Adagio nearly kill Aria, she didn’t want to suffer the same fate.
“Four…”
Sonata side-glanced at Aria and then Adagio, “I, uh, I-I…”
“Fi-”
“Go with her, Sonata,” came Aria voice.
“What?” Adagio, Sonata, and Sunset said in unison.
“Adagio needs you more than I do,” Aria winced as she removed her arm from around Sonata’s shoulder.
“B-But…”
“I’ll be fine, I promise.” Aria said, smiling weakly.
Sonata nodded and gave Aria a tight hug, causing Aria to flinch in pain. “I love you, Ari,” she whispered.
“I love you too, Nata.”
Sonata released Aria and ran into the house.
Adagio and Aria stared at each other for what seemed like a lifetime before Adagio turned and walked away.
“Bye, Dagi,” Aria said.
Aria’s farewell caused Adagio to freeze. There was something in the way Aria said her name that was both loving and forgiving. Adagio could feel a lump forming in her throat and she wanted to look back, but didn’t. A single tear rolled down her face as she walked in the house and closed the door.

Old Enemies and New Begnnings
Chapter Seven: Aria's New Beginning
Aria and Sunset sat in a booth at Sugarcube Corner, sharing a basket of fries and drinking milkshakes. It had been an eventful few hours and they were both just glad to be sitting down after their long walk to the small café.
Sunset looked at Aria who was staring out the window into the late afternoon sky. As she observed all the cuts and bruises that covered Aria’s arms and neck, she couldn’t help but feel guilty about everything that had happened. “Aria...” she said.
“What?” Aria responded, not turning her gaze away from the window.
“I know, you keep saying that this isn’t my fault but-”
Aria hit Sunset in the face with a fry. “If you apologize one more time, Sunset, I’m gonna beat your ass myself.” Aria threatened.
Sunset, who was caught completely off guard by the piece of food hitting her, shook her head. “What the hell?” she remarked.
“What, you've been saying sorry all day,” replied Aria. “So, unless you’d like some bruises to match mine, stop…apologizing.” She punctuated each word by throwing a finger full of fries at Sunset.
“Okay, okay, I'll stop, on one condition.” said Sunset, as she tried to block the onslaught of fries.
“Name it.” Aria said, throwing another fry.
Sunset scrunched up her face as the fry hit her. “Okay, make that two conditions. First, stop throwing food at me, and second, you have to answer something for me.”
Aria sat for a moment, pondering Sunset’s terms. “Fine,” she said, hitting Sunset with one last fry. "What's your question?”
“You and Adagio both said that taking over the school was something you had to do in order to survive,-”
“I also told you, Adagio explains it better than I do.” Aria interrupted.
“I know, but Adagio isn't here and I’m pretty sure she won't be answering any of my questions any time soon; so, please?” Sunset pleaded.
Aria let out a deep sigh, “Alright, but pay attention because I'm only explaining this once.”
Sunset nodded, “I'm all ears.”
“Okay so, think of the gems as like a parasite. Everyone knows that in order for a parasite to live, they need a host; but they also need something to feed off of.” Aria explained. “When Adagio, Sonata, and I fused with the gems, we became the host. But what we didn’t know at the time, was that the gems fed off of negativity.”
“Alright, but that doesn’t explain why you needed to take over the school.”
Aria huffed in frustration, “This is why I said Adagio should explain it, she’s just better at making things make sense.”
“Aria, you’re explaining it just fine,” Sunset reassured as she held Aria’s hand in her own and gave it a gentle squeeze. “I’m just trying to get a better understanding.”
“But I don’t know how else to help you better understand it.” Aria replied, shaking her head. “The best way I can explain it is like this, however much negativity the gems needed in order to survive, we needed it too; and in return we used its magic to take over people’s minds and got them to do whatever the hell we wanted.”
“So, you must’ve needed a lot of negative energy if you had to take over an entire school.”
“Well, Adagio would always say that energy in this world isn’t the same as in Equestria. So, the amount of negativity we needed in this world to survive was always way more than what needed in Equestria.” said Aria. “Anyways, I answered your question, so can we go now?”
“Yeah, of course.”
Sunset and Aria slid out of the booth and threw out their garbage.
“So, did you guys lose everything, like Adagio said you did?” Sunset asked as she and Aria walked out of the café.
“Not entirely.” Aria responded. “I mean, we lost our powers and the need to feed on negativity, but we’re still immortal and we have our voices, so it’s not all bad.”
“Wait,” Sunset asked as she put a hand on Aria’s shoulder to stop her from walking. “You guys can still sing?”
Aria shrugged off Sunset’s hand and continued to walk down the street, “Yeah, why wouldn’t we be able to?”
“Because we heard you sing after your gems were destroyed.” Sunset answered as she caught up with Aria. “So, how the hell is that possible?”
“We’re sirens, Sunset. We had the ability to sing way before we found those gems.” Aria clarified. "Our voices were simply the channel by which the magic was unleashed. When the gems were destroyed, we still retained our ability to sing, it just took a couple of days for our voices to come back.”
“I don’t believe you.” Sunset replied flatly, looking away from Aria.
“Okay,” Aria laughed. “That doesn’t make it untrue.”
“Prove it then.”
Aria stopped and looked around at her surroundings, “What, right here?” she asked.
“Yeah, right here.”
“No way.” Aria scoffed.
Sunset gave Aria a playful push, “C’mon, I wanna hear you sing.”
Aria blushed and rubbed the back of her neck. "I don't know..."
"Oh, don't tell me you’re shy." Sunset said with a devilish smile.
"I'm not, it's just...too open."
Sunset grabbed Aria by the arm and ran down the street. “Fine, let’s go.”
"Whoa, w-where are we going?"
"There's a small park up ahead that not many people go to, you can sing for me there."
The cool late afternoon air blew gently across Spring Meadows Park. Fluttershy and Rarity sat on a picnic blanket eating light snacks, watching Rainbow Dash and Applejack toss a football back and forth some distance away.
"You know, Fluttershy, I must say, this day hasn't turned out all that bad, given how it started out. Wouldn't you agree?" said Rarity.
"Oh yes, Rarity, it has been a rather nice afternoon." agreed Fluttershy. "But, it would be even nicer if Pinkie Pie and Sunset were here."
"Indeed, but don't worry darling, we'll see Pinkie Pie later on tonight after she’s done babysitting the Cake twins, and tomorrow, we'll visit Sunset first thing in morning to set everything straight."
"INCOMING!!!" yelled a voice from far away. "LOOK OUT!!!"
Rarity and Fluttershy had barely enough time to look up when the brown pigskin landed on a small cake that was right between them.
Applejack skidded to a stop upon seeing the cake splatter all over the two girls. "Uh-oh." she said as she felt Rainbow Dash run into her.
"What the hell, A.J.?" Rainbow Dash cursed, rubbing her nose. "Why’d you stop like that?"
Applejack pointed a shaky finger at Rarity who was covered in cake and staring at them intensely.
"Who...threw that?" Rarity hissed as she slowly rose from the blanket.
Rainbow Dash and Applejack both pointed at one another.
"You're dead, Rainbow Dash!" Rarity yelled.
"Me?!" Rainbow Dash exclaimed. "How do you know I did it?"
"Because Applejack doesn't lie." Rarity replied as she ran after Rainbow Dash.
"Right." Rainbow Dash chuckled nervously before taking off in a full sprint.
Applejack sighed in relief, as she sat down next Fluttershy, who was wiping cake off herself. "Sorry about that Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash put a little bit too much arm into that one."
"Oh it's quite alright, Applejack." Fluttershy said with a smile. "Besides, I think Rainbow Dash is the one who is going to be sorry."
Both girls laughed as they watched Rarity chase Rainbow Dash across the park. "Whoo-wee, look at Rarity go." said Applejack, shielding her eyes from the sun.
From her side view, Fluttershy saw two figures enter the park. She did a double take when she recognized one of them as Sunset. "Hey, Applejack, am I seeing things or is that Sunset?" she asked as she squinted her eyes and pointed towards the entrance of the park. "
Applejack slowly turned her attention away from Rarity and Rainbow Dash and looked to where Fluttershy was pointing. "Yeah it is, but who is she with?"
"I don't know, but whoever it is, Rainbow Dash is about to run into her." Fluttershy pointed out.
Rainbow Dash panted as she looked over her shoulder, Rarity was a considerable distance away, and for some reason, Rarity was waving her hands and calling out her name. "Ha," Rainbow Dash said triumphantly. As she turned her head back around, she immediately ran into Aria and Sunset.
The two girls collapsed on the ground as Rainbow Dash plowed into them. "What the hell was that?" Sunset groaned, holding her head.
Aria moaned and slowly opened her eyes, only to see Rainbow Dash on top of her, "You!" they said at the same time. Aria pushed Rainbow Dash off her and scrambled to her feet.
"SUNNY!" Applejack yelled as she, Fluttershy, and Rarity ran to meet up with Sunset, Rainbow, and Aria.
The three girls rushed to help Sunset to her feet. "Are you alright, Sunset?" Rarity asked. "Did you hit you head?"
"No, I'm fine." Sunset said groggily. "What are you guys doing here?"
"I think the more important question is, what are you doing with her?" said Rainbow Dash as she stared hatefully at Aria.
Aria growled and clenched her fists, "Do you really want to start that again, because Adagio isn't here this time to save your ass from getting the shit beat out of you." she said, returning the hateful glare.
"Aria stop," interjected Sunset as she stood, once again, in between both girls. "You're already hurt, don't make it worse."
Aria continued her staring contest with Rainbow Dash. She knew Sunset had a point but there was no way she was backing down, no matter how much pain she was in. That is, until she felt Sunset's hand on hers. The touch caused her to break her gaze with Rainbow Dash instantly.
"Aria, please..." Sunset said tenderly.
Aria looked at Sunset and then at everyone else. They were all waiting to see if this was going to be a repeat of what had happened earlier. She, once more, glanced at Sunset who gave her a half-smile. "Fine," Aria sighed. "I won't hit her...or you."
Sunset smiled brightly and chuckled, "Oh, gee, thanks." she said sarcastically, giving Aria a playful shove. “And just so you know, I would've hit you back.”
“Oh yeah, right.” said Aria as she pushed Sunset back.
The Rainbooms watched in bewilderment as Sunset and Aria bantered with one another.
“Soooo ,” Applejack said loudly as to grab the attention of both girls. “What exactly are you two doing together?”
“Uhhhh , it's a long story.” Sunset said as she exchanged glances with Aria. “But let’s just say that I decided to take Principal Celestia up on her offer and become friends with the Dazzlings.”
“You’re joking, right?” Rainbow Dash said dryly. “Just this morning she was ready to punch you in the face, and now your friends with her.”
“Actually, I was ready to punch you in the face.” Aria cut in.
“Shut up!” Rainbow Dash snapped. “No one was talking to you.”
Much to her amusement, Aria could tell that she was getting under Rainbow Dash’s skin, and she decided to stoke the fire a bit more. “I think it’s kind of pathetic that Sunset had to save your ass twice today.” she taunted.
“Keep talking and it’ll be your ass that needs saving.” Rainbow Dash threatened, pointing at Aria.
“That’s enough, Rainbow Dash.” Applejack said. She pulled the irate girl a couple feet away from the rest of the group.
Rainbow Dash yanked her arm from Applejack’s grip. “Get off me!” she demanded.
“What is wrong with you, R.D.?” Applejack asked angrily.
“She is what’s wrong with me,” Rainbow Dash replied, pointing at Aria. “I can’t stand her, how can Sunset be friends with someone like that? She’s just….uggghhhh !”
“I know, but you need to calm down, before you do something you’re going to regret.”
“Yeah, I don’t think I’m going to regret hitting her.”
“Maybe not, but think about Sunset,” said Applejack while she placed her hand on Rainbow’s shoulder. “Her and Aria are friends now, whether we like it or not. If you hurt Aria, you’ll be hurting Sunset too…and let’s not forget that she’s already mad at us. We don’t want to make things worse.”
Rainbow Dash fought internally with herself. She knew that Applejack was right, if she got into a fight with Aria, Sunset might not ever forgive her. On the other hand, she really hated Aria and nothing would make her happier than to knock the purple siren out. Rainbow Dash put her hands on hips, looked up to the sky, and let out a deep sigh, “Fine.” she said reluctantly.
“Good, now let’s go try to make the best of this.”
Sunset sat next to Aria on the picnic blanket across from Rainbooms. She had absolutely no intention on staying at the park after her encounter with her friends but, after their persistent begging, she finally gave in.
Awkward silence filled the air as each girl shifted quick glances at one another. Rarity who was picking pieces of cake off her person, decided to speak up first, “Sunset, I know you’re still upset with us, but I - we just want you to know that we are truly sorry for how we acted, or rather, didn’t act this morning.” said Rarity.
“Yeah, we weren’t very friend-like and I reckon Twilight would have our heads if she knew how we behaved today.” Applejack added.
“We hope you can forgive us…” Fluttershy said softly.
Sunset looked around at her group of friends and then at Aria, who stared back at her blankly. Deep down Sunset knew her friends were sorry, and to be honest, after finding herself in a similar situation with Aria, she understood why they didn't react. The fear and anticipation of watching someone about to get or being hurt, is enough to paralyze anyone. “You guys don't have to apologize, I kinda overreacted, I think. So, if anyone should be sorry, it's me.”
“Don't be ridiculous, darling, we were completely at fault.”
“Why don't we all just agree to disagree and say that we were all at fault in one way or another?” said Applejack.
Each of the girls shrugged in agreement.
“Now, if you don't mind me asking, how exactly did this happen?” Applejack pointed between Aria and Sunset.
“Yeah, Sunset, we’re dying to know.” Rainbow Dash scoffed, rolling her eyes.
Applejack elbowed Rainbow Dash none too gently, eliciting an appropriate yelp from the girl.
“Well…” Sunset hesitated, looking at Rainbow Dash. “After I left the gym I kinda followed the Dazzlings.”
“Stalked is more accurate.” Aria chimed in.
“Shut up, it was hardly stalking.” Sunset said half-jokingly.
“If you say so,” Aria smirked.
Sunset sighed and smiled, “Anyways, to make a long story short, Adagio invited me to breakfast but then got mad at me after I brought up The Battle of the Bands. So, I sought out Aria to help me get through to Adagio, but then, Adagio got mad at Aria and well…”
“She did this to me and then kicked me out.” Aria said plainly, pointing to the various bruises and scars.
Rarity, Fluttershy, and Applejack sat slack-jawed at the brief re-telling of Sunset’s story. They could hardly believe that the Dazzlings would ever even consider being in the company of one of their own, but even more so, they couldn't believe that Adagio would hurt her friend like that.
Rainbow Dash sat un-phased by the telling of what Adagio did to Aria. “I guess I'm not the only one who hates you.” she sneered.
Applejack promptly slapped her in the back of the head.
“What?!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed. “Just because Sunset is friends with her, doesn't mean I have to pretend like her.”
“But that doesn't mean you have to be a bitch about it either,” snapped Sunset.
Aria put her hand on Sunset’s shoulder, “Rainbow Dash is right…I can't and don't expect all of you to just welcome me with open arms. What we did was wrong and even though I can't apologize for Sonata or Adagio, I can apologize for the part that I played.” Aria took a deep breath before continuing, “I know that it won't happen overnight, but I hope that over time, I can show you that I've turned over a new leaf.”
The Rainbooms sat quietly considering all that Aria had said. They were definitely shocked by the fact that she was asking their forgiveness but this was Aria Blaze, who much like Adagio, possessed a silver tongue.
Aria held Sunset’s hand and eagerly waited for one of the Rainbooms to respond.
“Uhm, I think we should give her a chance.” Fluttershy said softly. “After all, she did come to us, in a way.”
“Quite, I too think that Aria deserves a chance at redemption,” added Rarity. “What say you, Applejack?”
Applejack folded her arms across her chest. “I don't know…do you trust her Sunset?”
Sunset looked tenderly at Aria and squeezed her hand, “Yeah, I do.” she smiled.
“Then that's good enough for me. What about you, Dash?”
All eyes turned to Rainbow Dash, who was less than enthused about the entire situation. Rainbow Dash was in no way ready to forgive Aria, but even she was secretly impressed by the siren’s humbleness. “We'll see,” she replied.
Aria sighed and nodded at Rainbow Dash, “Thank you.”
“Whatever, it's getting late, we should get going.” Rainbow Dash said while avoiding all possible eye contact with Aria.
“Yes, I do believe I hear the bath tub calling my name,” said Rarity as she pulled a small piece of cake out of her hair.
“I thought we were meeting Pinkie for dinner?” Applejack questioned.
“And we shall, after my bath.”
Applejack groaned and slapped her forehead. “I'll call pinkie and tell her we're going to be late.”
“Well, I think we better get going.” Sunset laughed as she stood up.
“You're not coming?” asked Fluttershy.
Sunset helped Aria to her feet. “Nah, it's been a long day, I think Aria and I are just gonna go back to my place and chill.”
“Yeah, I think I hear a bath calling my name too.” Aria said, draping and arm over Sunset’s shoulder.
Sunset chuckled and wrapped her arm around Aria’s waist. “Well, there you have it. We'll see you guys tomorrow, okay?” She and Aria waved goodbye and walked towards the park entrance.
Rarity waited until Sunset ad Aria were out of earshot before asking, “Is it just me or did those two seem a little too friendly with one another…?”
Aria and Sunset walked down the street with their arms still around on another. “That went surprisingly well,” said Sunset.
“Yeah, although, I’m pretty sure Rainbow Dash still wants to beat the shit out of me.”
“Probably, but don’t worry, she’ll come around.” Sunset chuckled.
“I hope so, but, I have to thank you, Sunset.” Aria paused at the sidewalk corner.
“For what?”
Aria took both of Sunset’s hands in her own and looked deeply into her eyes. “Everything…if it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t’ve had the courage to stand up to Adagio. Hell, if it weren’t for you, the three of us would be still be causing chaos throughout the world.”
“Oh, it was nothing really,” Sunset chuckled and looked away sheepishly.
“No, Sunset.” Aria replied, lifting Sunset’s chin. “It was everything.”
Sunset struggled to find the words to say, she had no idea that her actions meant so much to Aria, but there was something more. She could hear the sincerity in Aria’s voice and see the gratitude in her eyes, but there was something else that she knew Aria was feeling that she couldn’t quite put her finger on.
“I, uh, I wasn’t gonna say this because I know we just met and I didn’t want to make things weird but…the mood seems right so, what the hell.” Aria chuckled nervously. “I’m not really sure how to say this but-” Aria was cut short by Sunset’s finger pressing against her lips.
“I know,” Sunset replied.
Aria gave Sunset a quizzical look. “You do…?”
“Mhm, I don’t know how to explain it, but for as long as we’ve been hanging out today, I just know that I’ve never felt this way about anyone before.”
“Really, because I saw the way you were looking at Adagio when we were in the alley and kind of thought you might have a thing for her.”
Sunset shook her head, “Nah. I mean, don’t get me wrong, Adagio definitely hot but, I can’t really picture myself with her.” Sunset motioned for them to keep walking. “Besides, I’m pretty sure Sonata’s already got her on lock.”
“I already told you it’s not like that.”
“Trust me, it is.” Sunset grinned. “But we can get into that later.” Sunset interlaced her fingers with Aria’s and placed her head on Aria’s shoulder. “Right now, I just want to enjoy being with you.”
Aria couldn’t help but smile to herself. It had indeed been a terrible day but she would gladly experience it all over, if meant having Sunset by her side in the end. “So does this make us, like, a thing?”
“A thing?” Sunset said, raising her eyebrow.
“Yeah, like dating.”
“I do believe you have to go on an actual date before it’s considered dating.”
“But this whole night could be considered a date if you think about it.” Aria grinned slyly. “We went out for dinner, took a walk through the park, and now you’re taking me to your home. All that’s left to do, is to seal the deal with a kiss.”
Sunset flicked Aria gently on the nose as she tried to move in for a kiss, “Nice try, but no. You’re going to take me out a proper date then, and only then, shall you get your kiss.”
“Fine…” Aria groaned. “How’s next Saturday sound?”
Sunset surprised Aria with a kiss on the cheek. “Sounds perfect.”

Chapter Eight: Reconciliation
“So what do you want to do today?” Sonata asked while jumping on Adagio’s queen-sized bed.
“Nothing…” said Adagio as she laid there, staring aimlessly at the ceiling.
It had been several days since Aria’s banishment and Sonata was doing everything in her power to make sure that Adagio didn’t fall into a deep depression, all while trying to keep her own spirits up as well.
“C’mon Dagi, there’s gotta be something?” Sonata plopped on the bed. “We can do anything you want.”
Adagio grabbed a pillow and covered her face with it. She knew Sonata was just trying to cheer her up, but things just weren’t the same without Aria.
Sonata crawled over to Adagio and sat on top of her. “What about the mall, we can do that. You LOVE shopping.”
“Hmph mft pha hme mmthph aphia.” Adagio mumbled incoherently into the pillow.
“What?”
“Hmph…mft pha hme…mmthph aphia.”
Sonata sighed and rolled her eyes, “I still don’t know what you’re saying.” She grunted while trying to pry the pillow off Adagio’s face.
“I said, it’s not the same without Aria!” Adagio shouted, as she let the pillow be removed.
“What do you mean not the same , Aria hates shopping?”
“I know,” Adagio smiled. “But she was always fun to go with because she would always find something or someone to make fun of. Not to mention, she was the only one who was honest enough to tell me how I looked while I tried things on.” Adagio could feel the tears forming in her eyes. “The truth is, as much as I hate to admit it, I really miss Aria…I miss having someone to watch Murder/Mystery shows with, or make fun of you with, or-”
“Hey!” Sonata interjected.
“Sorry, but it’s true.”
Sonata’s heart sank. She hated seeing Adagio so sad. “Y’know, you could always just call her and say sorry if you miss her so much.”
“Yeah right,” Adagio scoffed. “There’s no way in hell, she’d forgive me after what I did. I can’t even forgive me…”
Sonata shook her head and removed herself from Adagio’s midsection. “C’mon Dagi, you really think that after all the years we’ve spent together, that Aria wouldn’t forgive you for something like this?” Before Adagio could answer, she walked out of the room and returned shortly with her cellphone.
Adagio watched as Sonata dialed a number and put the phone to her ear. “What are you doing?” she asked.
“Calling Aria, this has gone on long enough.”
Aria sat on the living room couch, reading an old comic that she had found in Sunset’s treasure chest of books. She wasn’t much of a reader of this kind of genre, but this particular one had managed to capture her attention far longer than she thought it would.
“Whatcha reading?” a voice came from overhead.
Aria tilted her head back and saw Sunset grinning down at her. “A comic.” She replied.
Sunset hopped over the back of the couch and sat next to her soon-to-be girlfriend. “Comic?” she asked, giving Aria a puzzled looked. “Where the hell did you find a comic?”
“In your book chest thing.”
“Are you sure?” Sunset asked, scratching her head. “I don’t recall owning any comics. What’s it called?”
Aria folded the cover over and read the title, “Uhhh, Rosario Vampire .” She raised an eyebrow at Sunset, whose facial expression clearly indicated that she knew what comic it was.
“Riiiight …” Sunset chuckled sheepishly. “I bought that a long time ago. It was during my whole vampire/werewolf fantasy phase.”
“Uh huh, so Team Edward or Team Jacob?” Aria teased.
“Team Ed-Oh shut up, it’s not like that.” Sunset protested.
Aria snickered at the thought of Sunset being a Twilight fan. “Never would’ve taken you for a ‘Twi-hard’,” she commented as she tickled Sunset.
“I’m not!” shouted Sunset. She did her best to squirm away, but inevitably fell prey to Aria’s itching fingertips. Within seconds, she was on the floor, “A-Aria, please, s-s-stop.” Sunset laughed and tossed wildly, trying to free herself from Aria’s grasp.
“I’m sorry, what?” Aria smirked, pretending not to hear Sunset’s pleas. “I can't hear you.”
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Sunset had no idea who it was, but she was eternally grateful for them showing up at that moment.
“We’ll continue this later.” Aria said, kissing Sunset on the forehead. She stood and made her way over to greet whomever was at the door. Aria barely had time to open the door before being immediately tackled to the ground by a blue streak of lightning.
“ARIIIIII!!!” Sonata squeed.
Aria laid stunned on the ground. She had never been hit by a truck before, but this had to be pretty damn close to what it felt like. “What the-Sonata?” Aria groaned, holding her head. She blinked several times as three smiling Sonatas appeared in front of her. “Why are there three of you?” she asked dizzily.
“Three? There's just one of me, silly.” Sonata giggled.
It took a minute for Aria to regain her vision and for the three Sonata’s to collide into one. “What are doing here…how did you find me?”
“Well, I tried calling you, but you didn’t answer so I had to look up Sunset Shimmer’s address online. Where is Sunset by the way?”
“Over here…” Sunset answered, picking herself off the floor.
“Oh hey, Sunny, I didn’t see you there!” Sonata said cheerfully, before looking at Aria. “Were you two having sexy time or something?”
Aria eyes widened as she pushed Sonata aside and stood up, “No, we-why would you even ask that?”
Sunset chuckled as she stood next Aria.
“I don’t know. “Sonata shrugged. “I heard laughing and other noises, so I just thought-”
“Well, don’t ‘just thought’, okay.” Aria interrupted. “And you never answered my question, what are you doing here?”
“Oh yeah! I brought Dagi here to apologize.” Sonata smiled, pointing over her shoulder at the door.
“Adagio?” Aria and Sunset said in unison. Both girls glanced at the empty doorway.
“Uhm, Nata, there’s no one there.” Aria said.
Sonata whipped around and indeed saw that there was no one there. “Seriously!” she exclaimed, standing to her feet. “I’ll be right back.”
Sunset and Aria looked at one another and shrugged as they listened to Sonata tussle and argue with someone out in the hallway. All of a sudden, they heard a yelp and then saw Adagio stumble in front of the door, rubbing her butt.
“There, I told you she was here.” Sonata said out of breath.
Adagio desperately tried to avoid eye contact with Aria as she entered the house. She really didn't want to be there in the first place, but she knew that this would probably be her only chance in a while to make things right.
“Dagi?” Aria asked, “What are you doing here?” Secretly, she was ecstatic to see Adagio, but she decided to play it cool until after Adagio said her piece.
“Sonata says I need to apologize.” Adagio replied while looking at the floor.
“Sonata, huh? So, there's no part of you that thinks you did anything wrong?”
Adagio sighed in frustration, she hated apologizing, especially when she knew she was in the wrong. “Perhaps, I too, feel as though my behavior was less than acceptable and I need to apologize for it.”
“Well, I'm waiting.” Aria smirked as she folded her arms and tapped her foot. She had no intention of truly making Adagio apologize to her, because she was never mad at her to begin with. However, this was a rare time that Adagio was uncomfortable and she was going milk to it for all it’s worth.
Adagio groaned, the thought of apologizing was actually causing her physical pain. “I…am so-I…I’m s-sor-ugh.” She stammered before giving up. “I can't do this, Aria. You know that I feel bad about what I did. Please don't make say it.”
“I swear Dagi, getting you to apologize is like pulling teeth.” Aria laughed. “But alright, I won't make you say it…”
“Thank god.”
“…to me, that is.”
“Wait, what?”
Aria wrapped her arm around Sunset’s shoulders. “Because I think you owe Sunset more of an apology.”
“I’d rather gargle acid.” Adagio hissed.
“Fine, then there's the door,” said Aria, pointing at the door.
Adagio hemmed and hawed for a couple minutes. Personally, she didn't feel that she owed Sunset anything, but if it was going to appease Aria, then so be it. “Fine. Sunset, I'm sorry for whatever you think I should be sorry about.” Adagio said dismissively.
“What the hell kind of apology is that, Adagio?” Aria blurted out.
“What, you said-”
“It's fine,” Sunset interrupted, placing a her hand on Aria’s chest. “Look Adagio, I think it's time that you and I had a serious conversation.”
“Oh really, because I think that I have absolutely no interest in what you have to say.” Adagio replied.
“You better cool it, Adagio, because Sunny’s gonna be comin’ around a lot more, so might as well get used to it.” Aria cut in.
Sonata and Adagio glanced at one another and then at Aria. “What do you mean?” Adagio asked suspiciously.
“I mean, Sunset and I are dating…or are going to be,” said Aria proudly. “So, whatever issues you have with her end today.”
Adagio was lost for words. Her brain couldn't even begin to process the information she just received. ‘What the fuck is happening right now?’ she thought.
“AHHHHH!!” Sonata screamed in delight. “I'm so happy for you guys!” She ran over and hugged both Aria and Sunset.
“Thanks, Nata.” Aria laughed.
“You have to tell me EVERYTHING! When it happened, how it happened, why it happened!” Sonata rambled on to Sunset. “Do you know where she's taking you? Oh, oh, oh, you should have Aria take you to that taco place downtown, their tacos are just the BEST! They have all kinds of--MMPH.”
Aria put her hand over Sonata’s mouth to keep her from going on about tacos. “Nata, slow down. I'm not taking Sunny to some taco joint, okay?” Sonata sighed, but then nodded. Satisfied that she understood, Aria removed her hand. “Good.” She smiled.
“Hey Dagi, can you believe it?!” Sonata turned around. “Where’d she go?”
Amidst all the excitement, Adagio managed to sneak out the apartment. She just couldn't stand the thought of Aria being with Sunset. ‘How could Aria choose her over me?’ she asked herself.
“ADAGIO!” a voice called out from the distance. “WAIT UP!”
Adagio turned around and saw Sunset chasing her. “You've gotta be kidding me.” She grumbled, turning back around and continuing her walk home. She stopped at the corner and vigorously pressed the button on the stop light pole, hoping that it would change color before Sunset caught up with her. “C’mon,” she looked over her shoulder. Realizing that the light wasn't going to change it time, Adagio half-contemplated jumping in front of traffic just to avoid Sunset.
“Adagio.” Sunset said breathless after finally catching up with siren. “You walk surprisingly fast, you know that?”
Adagio rolled her eyes, “What do you want?” She asked impatiently.
Sunset took several deep breaths before answering, “I just wanna talk, please. I know you hate me, but I still think that we can be friends. All I'm asking is that hear me out, after that, if you still want to believe that I'm…the devil incarnate, then I'll leave you alone.”
“You're persistent, I'll give you that much.”
“So, is that a yes?”
“Do you see that stop sign, four blocks down?” Adagio asked.
Sunset squinted but saw the sign. “Yeah,” she replied. “What about it?”
“You have until we reach it to convince me that we can be friends. If you do, then congratulations, you've done the impossible. But if you don't, you turn around and I never see your face again. Deal?”
“Deal.”
“Perfect, I'll start us off.” Adagio said as she and Sunset crossed the street. “Why are you so interested in being friends?”
Sunset was surprised that Adagio asked her a genuine question. She thought Adagio had some crazy stalling tactic planned. “Uh, I already answered this at the restaurant. I think we have a lot in common.”
“So you said, but I don't see it.”
“Well, we're both power hungry. We both tried to take over the school, got destroyed by the same magic of friendship blast, and were defeated by the most random, rag-tag group of girls ever.” Sunset explained.
“So what? Just because our situations were similar, that doesn't qualify us to be friends.” Adagio argued.
Sunset had to admit that Adagio had a point. She should've known, circumstance alone was going to be enough to convince Adagio to be friends. She had to think of something else and fast. “Okay, how about because I’m the only other person besides and Aria and Sonata who knows exactly how you feel.”
“Oh yeah, prove it.”
“Before the Fall Formal, my entire reason for existence revolved power and control. I had this great plan to use Equestrian magic to take over the school and Equestria, but that all came to a grinding halt after Twilight and her friends beat me.” Sunset paused as the memories of that night played in her head. “It was the worst day of my life. I felt lost, confused, embarrassed, angry…afraid even. Everything I worked to achieve was gone and I felt an overwhelming sense of loneliness and emptiness inside.”
Sunset noticed that they were only a couple steps from the stop sign. She looked at Adagio, who remained expressionless but seemed to be in some kind of deep thought. She wanted to ask if she was close in describing what Adagio might be feeling, but she had a hunch that she was right on. “Well, we're here.” Sunset said, stopping at the corner. But Adagio turned kept walking. Sunset didn't know if she should go back or keep walking. “Uhm, Adagio?”
“How did you get over it?” Adagio asked flatly.
Sunset did a little hop-skip to catch up with Adagio, “Get over what?”
“What you felt, how did you make it go away?”
“I didn't. There are times I still feel that pull to power, or feel angry about losing, and there are days where I still feel alone and empty inside.” Sunset explained. “But it helps to have my friends around when those feelings arise.”
“How? They have no idea how you feel.” Adagio pointed out.
“True, but they do their best to understand and to remind me that I'm a much better person now, and for me that's good enough.”
Adagio returned to her walk of silence. Sunset had definitely proved that she knew how she felt, and while the idea of being friends was still up in the air at the moment, Adagio did feel as though Sunset had earned the right not to be treated poorly anymore. “I owe you an apology…a real one.”
“You don't have to-”
“Yes I do. This whole time, I've been blaming you for things that really aren't your fault and I realize now that you were just trying to help. So, I'm sorry.”
“It's alright, I've been there remember?” Sunset smiled. “So does this mean that I've done the impossible?”
Adagio chuckled slightly, “I suppose this whole friendship thing might be worth exploring.” She replied.
“Sweet!” Sunset celebrated by jumping in the air.
“But let me be clear,” Adagio placed her hand on Sunset’s shoulder. “I have no interest in extending this invitation to the rest of your friends. Got it?”
Sunset had really hoped that the Dazzlings and the Rainbooms could all be friends with one another, but after what almost happened in the gymnasium and in the park, perhaps it was best to not have them associate with each other for a while. “Absolutely.” Sunset nodded.
“We should probably head back, before your lover starts to worry.”
“Yeah probably.” Sunset laughed.
Back at the apartment, Aria anxiously paced back and forth across the living room floor. “Sunset should be back by now,” she said.
“Calm down, Ari. I'm sure Sunset is fine.” Sonata replied from the couch.
“What makes you so sure? You know how Adagio feels about Sunset.”
“Yeah, but do you really think Dagi would hurt someone who means so much to you?”
“I don't know,” Aria replied as she took a seat next to Sonata. “Adagio hasn't exactly been predictable lately.”
“Since when has she ever been?” Sonata laughed.
Aria cracked a smile and nodded in agreement. “I guess you're right, maybe I do just need to-SUNSET!” Aria shouted as the door opened and Sunset entered the house. “Are you okay? Did Adagio hurt you?” She asked while searching Sunset for any bruises.
“Really, Aria?” Adagio replied, walking into the house.
“Well, can you blame me?" Aria defended herself.
“Eh,” Adagio shrugged and went to sit next to Sonata. "You should be glad to know that Sunset and I have finally come to an understanding."
"Really?" Aria asked.
"Mhm," Sunset grinned. "We-"
"DAGIIIIII!!!" Sonata shrieked, wrapping her arms around Adagio's stomach. "I knew you'd come around!"
"Ugh, Sonata, let go." Adagio grunted.
Aria and Sunset laughed as they watched Adagio try extract herself from Sonata's vice-like grip. "Uhm, should we help her?" Sunset asked.
"Nah, she'll be fine." Aria answered as she took Sunset by the waist. “Anyways, I’m really proud of you. I know that it wasn’t easy getting through to Adagio and I have no idea how you actually managed to do it, but good job. And thank you, it's nice to have Adagio back.”
Sunset smiled and draped her arms around neck. “I can’t take all the credit. I couldn’t have done anything without you.”
“I guess we just make a good team.” Aria said, pulling Sunset closer. Both girls stared lovingly into each other’s eyes. Time seemed to slow as their lips grew closer and closer, until they finally locked into a passionate kiss.
“Awwww,” Sonata cooed. “So cute!”
“Definitely a Kodak moment,” said Adagio as she snapped a picture with her phone.
Aria eyes shot open after hearing Adagio take several photos. “You better delete every one of those pictures, Adagio.” She threatened, giving Adagio a death glare.
“But you guys are so adorable together.” Adagio argued with a smile. “These are so going online.”
“The hell they are,” Aria broke from Sunset’s embrace and leapt on Adagio. “Gimme the phone!” She demanded as she wrestled with the orange siren.
The phone landed in Sonata’s lap as she cheered on both girls, “I got it, I got it!!” Sonata danced, holding the phone up triumphantly. However, her celebration proved to be premature as she was quickly tackled by Aria and Adagio.
Sunset simply laughed as she observed the three girls fight over the phone. One minute they were rolling around on the floor, and the next, they were yelling and chasing one another around the apartment. She followed the sound of the three sirens into her bedroom and leaned against the door frame. ‘Who knew these guys were so playful.’ She thought.
“Sunny, help!” Aria shouted as she struggled to keep the prized item away from Adagio and Sonata. In one hand she held the phone, and in the other held Adagio in a headlock while also managing to keep Sonata at bay with her foot firmly planted on Sonata’s face.
“Ah, what the hell.” Sunset shrugged. Without a second prompting, she leapt onto the pile of girls and joined the intense battle for the phone.

Chapter One: Sleepless Nights and an Unexpected Savior
It was an unusually cold, wet, and quiet spring night. All that could be heard was the sound of rain as it crashed violently against the ground. Inside the Dazzling household, Aria Blaze and Sonata Dusk lay peacefully sleeping in their rooms. However, for Adagio Dazzle, in was another sleepless night…
Adagio tossed and turned viciously in her bed. Her breathing was heavy and ragged, sweat covered her forehead, neck, and chest.
“No stop, p-please…” She whimpered, as she tried desperately to wake up.
In her dream, Adagio was running, but from what? Behind her the sounds of galloping could be heard. A figure in all white armor, riding an alicorn was chasing her. Adagio’s heart was pounding out of her chest. She wanted to run faster but she could feel her legs beginning to give out. The figure was gaining on her.
‘No…’ She thought to herself, ‘have to keep going’
She glanced back over her shoulder, but as she did, Adagio tripped and fell on her hands and knees. The figure couldn’t have been more than ten steps behind her and she knew it. With tears streaming down her face, Adagio tried to get up, but she was so tired. All she could do was cry. She opened her eyes only to see the shadow of the figure right behind her.
“WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!?!" She screamed, but the figure said nothing.
Knowing that there was no escape, she turned and faced her perpetrator. “Who are you?” she asked through her tears. Again, the figure said nothing.
“ANSWER ME!” Adagio yelled.
The figure remained silent as he dismounted from his horse and began walking towards her. Still on the ground, Adagio slowly to back away from the figure, as her tears flowed more fiercely down her face.
“Please don’t hurt me…” She begged. “I-I’ll do anything”
The figure drew his sword as he continued to walk towards her. Adagio’s eyes widened as she realized what was about to happen. As the figure slowly raised his sword above his head, all Adagio could do was watch in horror as her life was about to come to an end. He was about to smite her when…
‘BOOM !!’
“AHHHHHHH!” Adagio screamed, as she shot up from her pillow.
She frantically looked around to see what had made that sound, but there was nothing there. As another boom of thunder rang out, Adagio looked out her window and realized it was just the storm that had waken her up. She let out a long sigh of relief as she had never been as grateful for thunder as she was in that moment. However, after a few seconds, she began to cry silently to herself. This was the sixth night in a row that she had had this same nightmare. She got out of her bed and walked towards her door. Carefully turning the knob as to make as little as sound as possible, she tip-toed to the bathroom. She grabbed a rag and ran cold water onto it. She placed the rag on her face and began to wipe away the dried sweat that had accumulated there. She then ran the rag down her neck and onto her chest. As she did, Adagio looked in the mirror. Dark, heavy bags could be seen under her eyes, these nightmares were taking their toll on her. She took a deep breath and shook her head.
‘I don’t know how much longer I can keep this up…’ She thought.
Adagio turned off the bathroom light and walked downstairs to the kitchen. She looked at the clock on the microwave that read 5:30 a.m.
“No point on trying to go back to sleep” She whispered to herself. Not that she would have been able to or would even want to, out of fear of having that nightmare again. Reaching into the cupboard, Adagio grabbed a box of her favorite tea. She filled the kettle with water, turned on the stove, and waited for the water to heat up. Adagio sat at the kitchen island while she waited. She rubbed her eyes with the palms of her hands and let out a small groan. Adagio was extremely and unbearably tired, all she wanted to do was sleep and sleep, and sleep some more. But every time she closed her eyes, the figure dressed in all white appeared.
‘What is wrong with me?’ She thought.
‘Why is this happening?’
‘What does it mean?’
‘When will it stop? ’
Question after question filled Adagio’s mind, until the whistling of the kettle snapped her back into reality. She finished making her tea and sat back down. After a couple of sips of the warm beverage, Adagio looked at the clock on the microwave again. It read 6:00 a.m. As she took another sip from her cup, Adagio could hear the sounds of footsteps from upstairs.
“Right on time” she said silently to herself with a half-smile.
The footsteps drew closer and closer to her until they stopped right behind her.
“Dagi?” asked a sleepy voice standing at the kitchen entrance. “What are you doing up again so early?”
“Good morning, Sonata” Adagio replied, without turning around.
Sonata walked into the kitchen but before sitting down next to Adagio, she gave the eldest siren a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. Adagio couldn’t help but smile.
“Is everything okay Dagi? Sonata asked. “You’ve been waking up suuuuper early these last few days and you never do that”
“I’m fine, Nata” replied Adagio, as she rubbed her left eye.
“Are you sure, cause you look reeeeally tired” Sonata let out a huge gasp, as if coming to some unexpected realization. “Are you sleeping alright Dagi, because I’ve got something that can help you sleep better”
“I’m fine” Adagio replied again.
“Y’know, doctors say that you should get at least eight hours of sleep every night or your body won’t work properly, and if your body doesn’t work properly then you won’t feel good, and if you don’t feel good then - ”
As Sonata continued with her mindless rambling, Adagio closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. She was desperately trying not to lose her patience with Sonata so early in the morning, but she couldn’t take much more of the air-head’s incessant chatter.
“SONATA!” Adagio said sharply, with her elbow on the counter and index finger and thumb pinching the bridge of her nose.
“Yes, Dagi?”
“I said I’m fine, okay? So, please …stop…talking”
Sonata simply smiled and nodded and gave Adagio another hug. After finishing the rest of her tea, Adagio proceeded over to the sink and placed her mug inside it. She then opened the refrigerator and peered inside.
“What would you like for breakfast, Nata?” Adagio asked.
“Uhmmmm ….BACON!!!” Sonata shouted.
“Okay, what else?” Adagio asked while pulling the bacon out and placing it on the counter.
“That’s it” replied Sonata with a smile.
“You can’t eat just bacon, Sonata” said Adagio.
“Why not?” Sonata asked, in a half whining, half irritated manner.
“Because…” Adagio replied impatiently as she glanced back at the now pouting siren. “You need to eat something with a little more…substance”
“I don’t want substance” Sonata said indignantly, as she crossed her arms. “I want bacon”
Adagio slammed the refrigerator door, turned, and placed both hands on the island counter. She lowered her head and took a deep breath before continuing her conversation with the stubborn girl.
“Look, Sonata…I don’t have the patience nor the energy to argue with you about this, this early in the morning. So, I will say it again, you are not eating just bacon for breakfast” Adagio said in her calmest voice as possible, while slowly looking up at the clearly terrified girl. “Now, you can either choose something else to eat or you can eat nothing at all. What will it be?”
Sonata gulped audibly as Adagio stared at her with a glare that could freeze hell ten times over. Sonata had seen plenty of situations like this in the past. Every word that poured out of Adagio’s mouth was authoritative and threatening. And even though Adagio phrased the question as though there were two choices, Sonata knew there was only one. So, rather than tempt the already pissed off siren further, Sonata made one of the hardest decisions she’s ever had to make.
“I-I-I’ll also take some eggs and toast…please” She said quietly looking down into her lap.
Adagio raised her eyebrow, rolled her eyes, and reopened the fridge to get the carton of eggs. Sonata watched in silence as Adagio began making breakfast. She wanted to say something but she was afraid that Adagio would snap at her again. After a few more moments of silence, Sonata finally got the courage to speak.
“Uhmm …Dagi?” Sonata whispered.
“What?” answered Adagio.
“I-I’m sorry for annoying you…” Sonata said as she looked away from Adagio.
“It’s okay, Sonata”
Sonata twiddled her thumbs not knowing whether or not to try and continue talking to Adagio or just sit there and quietly wait for her food. Sonata knew that something was bothering Adagio, but she didn’t want upset her even more by asking questions, especially after Adagio almost went off on her only a few minutes ago. So, she decided to remain silent for both of their sakes. The closing of the cupboard caused Sonata to look in Adagio’s direction. She watched as Adagio plated her food and placed it in front of her.
“Thanks Dagi” Sonata said with a smile.
Adagio looked at Sonata briefly but didn’t say anything. She then turned and walked towards the kitchen entrance. Sonata watched as Adagio walked away, she didn’t know what to say or think in that moment. However, just as Adagio was about to walk out of sight, Sonata called out to her in a quiet and worried tone.
“Adagio?”
“Hm ?” Adagio said, as she stopped and faced the younger siren.
Sonata fumbled for the words to say. So, instead, she hopped out of her chair and ran over to Adagio and simply wrapped her into the biggest and tightest hug she could muster. This sudden display of affection caught Adagio completely off guard. Adagio was used to Sonata being all touchy-feely, but this…this was something that Adagio had never experienced before. Normally, Adagio would have pushed Sonata off her but, to be honest, this was exactly what she needed. Adagio couldn’t explain what it was that she was feeling in that moment, she was more so concentrating on trying to fight back the tears she so very much wanted to let out. She would have been able to do so too, had Sonata not dropped another bomb on her.
In the most innocent and loving voice ever, Sonata said, “I love you, Dagi” as she nuzzled into Adagio’s breasts.
With those three words, the floodgates were opened. Adagio held Sonata tightly and began to sob uncontrollably. Sonata didn’t exactly know what was happening or what to do in this situation. She had never ever seen Adagio cry before and, honestly, it kind of scared her. To her, Adagio had always been a symbol of strength, power, and dominance. But ever since their defeat at the Battle of the Bands, Adagio had not been the same. Adagio rarely went out or talked or did anything, for that matter. And now, here she was breaking down on her shoulder. Sonata was worried, confused, and scared, she had no clue how to comfort Adagio. However, what Sonata did know was that, in that moment, she was the only one who could help her.
Sonata somehow managed to walk down the hall with Adagio still crying on her shoulder to the living room. She stopped in front of the three-seater couch and laid Adagio upon it. Adagio curled into a ball and continued to cry. Sonata took a deep breath and massaged her now soaking wet right shoulder. She looked around for blanket but couldn’t find one. She was about to walk away to go get one when Adagio grabbed her pajama pants. Surprised, Sonata looked down at Adagio.
“Please don’t leave” sniffled Adagio.
“I’ll be right back, I promise” Sonata said while stroking Adagio cheek with the back of her hand.
Sonata quickly but quietly ran upstairs and into her room. She grabbed a blanket and went back downstairs and into the living room. Sonata draped the blanket over Adagio who was still bawling like a baby and sat down next to her. Adagio moved and placed her head on Sonata lap as she continued to cry.
‘What do I do now’ Sonata thought, while biting her bottom lip.
Then Sonata remember a movie she saw recently where there was a similar situation to the one she was in. In the scene, the daughter was crying on her mother lap just like Adagio was crying on hers. The mother ran her fingers through her daughter’s hair to calm her down and it seemed to work.
‘Maybe I could try that’
So she did. Sonata ran her fingers through Adagio’s massive orange and yellow curls, and whispered soft reassurances to her.
“Shhhh , everything is going to be okay, Dagi”
It seemed to be working. After a few moments, Adagio had begun to calm down and soon only small sniffles could be heard. Sonata continued to stroke Adagio’s hair until she was quietly sleeping on her lap.
As the sun began to rise and give wake to a new day, Adagio Dazzle, couldn’t help but smile in her sleep. For the first time in almost a week, she was sleeping peacefully...

First story ever! I hope you guys like it! Please feel free to leave comments, critiques, and suggestions. I'm always looking for feedback.
I plan on writing everyday, but since I'm in school it may be a couple days before I can actually publish a chapter. However, if this series gets a warm reception, I'll do my best to finish the chapters quicker so you guys don't have to wait as long ( because who wants to do that, right?)
