Chapter one

Prologue

The Journey of ten thousand miles begins with a single Trot ~Anonymous

"Ready to go?" asked Thomas, he was really hyped about testing this new physics theory out.

After Einstein's theory of relativity was proven right, which in itself was an enormous discovery, there was another thing that was yet to be discovered.

Warp travel.

It could mean thousands of new technologies, more chance for mankind's survival, not to mention the hefty paycheck if it works and can replace conventional means of space-time travel.

The experiment was to drop 2 human beings through a giant Particle smasher ring, as stupid as it sounds, it was already tested on a robot and a rabbit.

The robot was still functioning but it suffered massive Electromagnetic-Pulse damage, in addition the rabbit was later dead from radiation sickness, but that was a year and a half later.

The two scientists to go through were a woman named Myrtle, and a man named Thomas, both were researchers that worked at the top secret government facility called D.A.R.E. "division of Atomic Research and Experiments." This time the researchers had developed a material very hard to create that was immune to and would nullify the effects of electrostatic charge and radiation.

The vessel the two scientists were going to be put into to facilitate the travel by man-made wormhole was made entirely of the material and served as a harder than diamond, fiberglass like material that bends like metal when impacted.

They made it in a shape that was the least likely to shrink to the size of atoms under the pressure of being sucked into a gravity well.

A perfect sphere.

When the two scientists saw it the thing reminded them of a large metallic chrome beach ball. But they both knew better, this thing was built to endure abuse.

The best part was that the two scientists consciousness were to be linked to a machine and then used to monitor them when they would be on the other side, wherever the wormhole took them.

As soon as the scientist's minds were uploaded an instructor told them the things that they would have to go through.

"You will feel feelings of intense pain, possibly more than either of you previously have ever experienced.

In addition, you may feel intense terror when the sphere begins to collapse in on itself. Do you understand and agree to these things that may affect your emotional and physical state?"

And like the day of the two scientist's wedding, they both said "I do." and the two scientists held each other's hand.

"I love you..."

"I know baby, try to be calm, also sign the good lawyers papers please."

"-oh right! Sorry about that Kevin,"

The Lawyer held out the paper and Thomas picked up the consent form allowing them to be experimented on.

Kevin sighed, "Well, I am out of here! I will make sure these papers get filled out correctly. You can count on me!"

with that, he walked out of the facility into a crowd of protesters, who were complaining against and for the transfer of the human consciousness being put into a computer, along with a gaggle of fanatics yelling about the rights of robots. Police barred the way into the facility, to prevent anyone from halting the project.
