Vengeance:

Chapter 30.

A proper farewell to a good friend.

Rainbow sat at the table where her friends had all gathered for lunch Fluttershy had let go of her hand and had sat down across from her. Applejack, and Rarity both sat next to Fluttershy with Pinkie sitting next to Rainbow. As Rainbow set her bag onto the floor of the lunchroom cafeteria she took out Luna’s letter that Principal Celestia had given her then set it on the table in front of her and her friends. Before she read the letter out loud she looked at everyone sitting at the table as she said to them all.

“Alright before I read this to you all, I think we should call up Twilight who I think is still at my home and have her come here. I think she should hear what is written in this letter as well unless of course one of you wants to give the letter to her when we see her after school that is.”

Everyone looked at her then down at the letter in front of them as Rainbow picked it up Pinkie said to Rainbow just as she was about to put it back into her bag.

“I’ll give it to Twilight when we see her after school today Rainbow.”

Rainbow let out a soft sigh then placed the letter back onto the table as she began to read it out loud without any further objections from her friends.

“Dear Rainbow and friends of Rainbow Dash,

I wish to inform you all that I have chosen to leave CHS due to emotional issues caused by Sunset’s death. I have placed the school in the hands of a good friend of mine. I know she is more than capable of helping you all out with your issues over Sunset’s death. Please know that I care about each of you deeply, yet it was and is simply time for me to move on. My sister has reassured me that she will be staying with CHS. Please give her time, Sunset meant the world to her as I know she meant the world to each of you. But, none more than to Rainbow. Rainbow if you are reading this letter now then I want you to know that I understand what you are going through. Please for Sunset’s legacy stay on the straight and narrow path of good. I will see you all when ever I am able to do so. Until then I wish you all a fond farewell.

Vice Principal Luna.”

“That’s it, that’s all she wrote.” Applejack said as she looked at Rainbow who in turn looked up from the letter and handed it over to her saying to her.

“Yes Applejack that is all that is here, there is nothing else other than that.”

Rainbow got up from the table then proceeded to head to the cafeteria doors. Fluttershy also got up and went after her. Once Fluttershy caught up to Rainbow she said to her as she looked at her girlfriend.

“Rainbow is there something wrong you seem kind of distant today?”

Rainbow closed her eyes as she said to Fluttershy.

“I don’t understand why Luna did what she felt she needed to do Fluttershy. I mean I know my mother was a monster and I know it wasn’t my fault at all with what happened to me but, I can’t help feeling like I deserved to be treated like that.”

Rainbow let out a soft short quick breath as Fluttershy closed the distance between them and fully wrapped her arms around her girlfriend saying gently to her.

“Rainbow your mother treated you like you were nothing more than a burden to her. You didn’t deserve it at all. You are a beautiful person and I love you very much.”

Rainbow embraced her girlfriend and said to her while the two of them held each other in each other’s arms.

“I would like to talk more about this in therapy honey I am grateful that you have been going with me to therapy. It means a lot to have someone there that I can build my trust with. I hope you know that I do love you just as much if not more so than you love me.”

Looking into Rainbows eyes Fluttershy said as she started to lean in to kiss Rainbow on the lips.

“I know honey I love you too.”

The rest of the day was spent with Rainbow and all of her friends going from class to class each of them remembering Sunset in their own way. Rainbow stopped by the soccer field on her way to her final class as she looked at the field she recalled how Sunset tried again and again to get the ball past her yet failed each time. Rainbow smiled at the happy memory as she headed inside back inside the school to go to her last class of the day. Saying to herself as she walked to her last class of the day.

“I’ll stick by their side no matter what Sunset I promise your legacy will be one of both honor and loyalty. I will never forget the lessons you taught me. I swear it!”

Pinkie stopped by the science labs and stood in the doorway of science lab four as she recalled Sunset trying to figure out how Pinkie's brain worked. As she stood there a gentle hand was placed onto her shoulder and she turned around to see Fluttershy standing behind her saying to her gently.

“I know I miss her too, I recall when she came out of here covered in ash and suit after she tried to fix the lab computers. She had the most perplexed look on her face that day. I will miss her laughter and her smile most of all. She will always be in our hearts Pinkie.”

Pinkie offered a week yet clear smile as a single tear slipped past her ocean blue eyes and trickled down her cheeks. Fluttershy slowly turned and walked away leaving Pinkie to go to her last class as she too recalled like Fluttershy had happy memories of Sunset.  Applejack stopped by Sunset’s locker and laid a hand on her locker saying as she recalled her first meeting with Sunset.

“Don’t you worry none I will watch out for them I promise, I will be there for all of our friends.”

Rarity stopped by the ‘home and math’ classroom room thirty four A, as she looked into the class and watched the students all gather in and around their desk. She recalled how happy she was when Sunset had agreed to help her with a fashion show. Sighing she walked away from the class and said to herself as tears gently came down her cheeks.

“I’ll make sure everyone at this school has beautiful clothing darling just like you had. I will never forget you Sunset.”

At the end of the day the group all met outside of school at the statue as each of them looked from one to the other. Fluttershy and Rainbow held each other’s hands, Pinkie and Applejack both hugged each other. Rarity sniffed as she looked from the statue then to front doors of the school recalling how Sunset would often sit on the front steps leading up to the front doors talking with her about Equestria. Each of the girls headed to Rainbow’s home to talk to with Twilight. Getting to Rainbow’s home the girls found that Twilight was in the kitchen looking at a photo of Sunset. Rainbow smiled slightly as she walked over to Twilight and looked over her shoulder at the photo that Twilight was holding in her hands. Saying to Twilight as she placed a gentle hand onto her shoulder.

“I know, Twilight I miss her too. I remember when this was taken. Oh, I wish you had seen the look on her face before we took that photo. Sunset was so mad with us I thought she was going to go all demon girl on us again.”

Twilight sniffed as she looked at the photo then set it down and said to Rainbow as she looked up at her.

“We need to say goodbye to her in a more proper way than what was done at her funeral.”

Each of the other girls all came up stairs and Rainbow closed her eyes saying to Twilight as she reopened them.

“Alright Twilight what do we need to do in order to say goodbye to her in a more proper way?”

Twilight smiled slightly as she said to Rainbow.

“All we need to do is light six candles for her.”

Rainbow looked at Twilight then headed over to a drawer in her kitchen opening it up she took out a pack of candles and placed them down in front of her saying to her.

“Will these do? I got them shortly after Sunset told me about your, uh cutie marks. She showed me a drawing of what they all looked like. She drew each of your cutie marks for me and I took it from there. I went to store in Cloudsdale and had these made. I was just going to let them sit in my kitchen drawer collecting dust because I didn’t want to use them unless it was for a special reason. I had intended on giving her these for her birthday or something like that. But, now it doesn’t feel right to let them go to waste.”

Twilight picked up the pack of candles then smiled to Rainbow as she said while looking back down at them as she held them in her hands.

“These will do nicely, and thank you for being so considerate Rainbow.”

Rainbow smiled warmly to Twilight then reached back into the drawer where she got the pack of candles from and took out a box of matches and handed those to Twilight. Twilight took the candles and the matches got up from the table and headed outside into the back yard. Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie and Fluttershy all followed her leaving Rainbow in the kitchen as she looked around the house. Spying a photo of Sunset on her living room wall she walked over to it took it down then joined the others outside. Rainbow walked up to Twilight who had just opened the pack of candles and was passing them out to each of her friends as she handed the photo to Twilight Rainbow said to her.

“Can we also use this as a means to truly say to goodbye to her?”

Twilight looked at the photo and smiled warmly saying to Rainbow as she took it from her.

“Of course we can Rainbow. Place it down in front of us then when we all light our candles we will place each candle in a half circle in front of the photo.”

Rainbow did as she was directed to do. Placing the photo a few feet from where everyone stood and took her candle from Twilight. As Twilight struck the match sparking it to life she looked at Fluttershy and smiled warmly then lit Fluttershy's candle and nodded to her. Fluttershy placed her candle in front of Sunsets photo and said as she backed away from the candle and photo.

“Goodbye my friend I hope you have found peace and love wherever you are now. I will see you again perhaps in another life.”

Twilight then walked up to Applejack and lit her candle and like Fluttershy she nodded to Applejack who in turn stepped forward and placed the candle down in front of Sunset’s photo. Saying as she looked at the candle watching the flame dance in the light breeze.

“I’ll sure as heck miss you Sunset, I know you and I didn’t always see eye to eye on everything but, I will always cherish the good times we had together. So long my friend you take care while you are up there in the big Apple orchard.”

Twilight smiled as she thought of Sunset working on a farm and learning about growing plants and apples. She walked up to Rarity next lit her candle for her then nodded to her. Like Fluttershy and Applejack before her, Rarity too placed her candle down in front of Sunsets photo saying as she too backed away and watched the flame dance in the breeze.

“I don’t know where you are now darling but, I make you this promise I will always be the best friend and the best fashion advisor to everyone that I can be. I will miss you, You always knew how to make me laugh even when I didn’t want to. And your sense of fashion was well beyond that of anything that I could come up with. I will never forget you Sunset.”

Twilight sighed lightly as she walked up to Pinkie Pie who looked at her with tears coming down her cheeks. Twilight smiled as she wiped Pinkie's face and said to her.

“I know Pinkie, I miss her too. Let me light your candle for you and then you can say goodbye to her.”

“Okay, Twilight.” Pinkie said as she breathed in trying to hold back her tears.

Twilight lit Pinkies candle and Pinkie placed it front of Sunset’s photo backing away as she said still trying to hold back her tears.

“I miss you Sunny, I want you to know that while you are up there having a good party I will be here to make sure our friends always have a smile on their faces. I love you, you take care of yourself Sunny thank you for always having a smile on your face.”

Truning to face Twilight Pinkie said to her as she could no longer hold back her tears.

“I want Sunny to be here with us Twilight this isn’t fair at all. Why? Why did that….that no good meanie have to hurt Sunny? Why?”

“I don’t know Pinkie I wish I knew, I wish Luna didn’t kill him so that I could have had a few words with him. I know it hurts Pinkie I know, I want her home safe and sound too. All we can do now is try to remember her and keep her in hearts.” Twilight replied as lit a new match then walked up to Rainbow who looked from her to the candles back to Twilight.

“I wanted someone to make those that did this to Sunset pay with their lives, I told this to Luna before she shot my…..that monster of my mother. Do you think….Twilight I am responsible for what Luna has become. Am I to blame for Luna going all nuts and having to run from the law for the rest of her life?”

Twilight lit Rainbows candle then said to her gently.

“Oh, Rainbow you are not at all responsible for what Luna has done. She is like all of us hurting she lost someone that she cared for deeply. I know you probably don’t want to hear this right now, but I am going to say it anyways. Luna has her own path to follow as do you, neither of you are responsible for the others actions. I want you to know that I will stay in this world for as long as you will have me at your home and I will help you in anyway that I can.”

Rainbow sniffed as she slowly walked by Twilight placing her candle in front of Sunsets photo. She looked down at the candle then backed away as she said while her tears ran dry.

“I will never forget you Sunset I promise.”

Twilight lit her candle then placed it in front of all the others as she backed away from the candles she knelt down on one knee placed her right hand over her heart and bowed her head. Saying as she knelt with her friends all looking at her with perplexed looks on their faces.

“Sonchi Sunset Sonchi.”

Twilight remained in her kneeling postion for a few minutes then slowly stood up and bowed to Sunsets photo. Afterwords she turned to face her friends as she looked at them Rainbow asked as she looked from Sunsets photo then to Twilight.

“Uh, Twilight if you don’t mind me asking what did you just say as you knelt before Sunset’s photo?”

“You mean when I said Sonchi Rainbow?” Twilight replied as she tilted her head to side and raised an eyebrow.

“Yes Twilight what does Sunshee mean?” Rainbow asked as she tried to pronounce the word correctly but, failed at it.

Twilight smiled warmly to Rainbow saying to her gently as she laid a hand on Rainbow's shoulder.

“Sonchi it means ‘farewell good friend’ I said it in order to let her spirit know that I will always remember her. I knelt in front of her photo to show respect to her and then bowed to say my final goodbyes to her. She may not have been a princess but, to me she had the heart of one there for she deserved no less than that of absolute respect from me. I placed my hand over my heart to show that no matter what, I will always keep her in my heart and that no matter how long the years are that past before I see her again she will always be my friend.”

Rainbow nodded to Twilight as she and the others all did as Twilight had done each of them knelt in the same way as Twilight had done. Each of them placed a hand over their hearts and each of them in unison said Sonchi. As Rainbow and her friends stood up Twilight smiled to each of them saying to them all.

“Let's go in and remember the good time we had with her.”

Everyone smiled and began to walk inside the house, everyone that is but, for Rainbow who remained outside as she turned to face the photo of her fallen friend. Rainbow saw Sunset’s spirit appear before her and smile warmly to her then slowly disappear. Rainbow let a few tears slip past her eyes as she walked back over to the photo picked it up and held it in her hands. Looking at Sunsets photo she sighed then turned and headed towards the house. The rest of the evening was spent with all six friends in their own way recalling to each other how they met Sunset after the Fall Formal and how they all befriended her. Each of them were laughing and sharing pleasant memories of a good friend that was now gone. Rainbow as she looked at all her friends while they each told their stories felt a sense of warmth in her heart knowing that Sunset would never truly be gone as long as she kept her memory alive in her heart. Principal Celestia had gone home and like the others even though she was not present did as they had done. She too lit a candle and said her goodbyes to her daughter. And like Rainbow she too saw Sunset’s spirit appear and disappear in front her leaving her with a sense of warmth and love in her heart. Like Rainbow, principal Celestia knew as Rainbow also knew that as long as she too kept Sunset’s memory alive her daughter wouldn’t truly be gone. Celestia sighed to herself as she gently blew out the candle saying softly as she headed for bed.

“Goodbye my daughter I will always have you in my heart.”

Celestia went to bed and soon fell asleep. Dreaming of the good times she had with Sunset as she and Sunset both shared in each other company.  Luna as all this was happening the same day had found her way into the very heart of the diamond dog gang territory. Which was located in Manehattan city. The gang members not sure what to make of Luna as she stood outside of one of their many crack houses each sneered at her. Luna grinned as she stared coldly at the gang members and they all taunted her by throwing bottles of Apple Cider at her or by yelling and swearing at her. Luna as she raised up her M-249 machine gun that fired 800 rounds per pull of the trigger titled her head to one side as she yelled out to the gang pulling the trigger dropping ten gang members where they stood.

“Time to get your’s you bastards!”
