Equestria Girls: The Atlas Chronicles
1- A New World (edited)
Load Full StoryNext ChapterCanterlot City, ten o'clock PM. It was a dark, cold, and snowy winter night. Snow was falling from the sky very fast, and heavy fog was covering the city. A little boy named Atlas was wandering around Canterlot. He had no memory of his past life. He didn't know where he came from, who his family was, or how he had gotten there. The only thing he did remember was his name and where he had appeared. When he appeared in this new world, he found himself lying under a big oak tree in a wooded area. He didn't know how he got there. It had been a week and a half since he appeared in the city. He was cold, tired, scared, hurt, and hungry. His stomach would rumble nonstop. Luckily, he was able to keep himself hydrated by eating the winter snow.
He was too scared to talk to anybody and would do his best not to be seen during the day. He mostly slept on benches or at bus stops. Somehow, he was able to not get frostbitten. All that he had to wear for clothing was a thin, white, hooded sweater, blue pants, and socks, but this wasn't enough to keep him warm through the cold days and nights. He had shoes once but was mugged for them a couple of nights prior by two thugs, which left him bruised and battered.
Ever since that violent night he didn't trust anybody. He would cry heavily when he thought back on his violent mugging. It was a moment that nearly costed him his life. A couple of hooded men lured him into a dark alley, hit him on the head with a heavy object and knocked him to the ground. They kept punching and kicking him down until it looked like he was dead, but he was only unconscious. They searched his pockets, but found nothing and decided to take his shoes. He gained back his consciousness a couple of hours later, waking up with a black eye, a bloody gash on the side of his head, and multiple scars and bruises on his arms and legs. He kept his black eye and bloody gash hidden under a bit of his short, messy brown hair and the scars and bruises all over under his clothes. Everywhere around his body hurt, which made it difficult for him to walk. He kept his black eye and bloody gash hidden under a bit of his short, messy brown hair. A layer of snow covered most of his hair. It was no use brushing it off, as a new layer would form from the snowstorm.
Atlas' legs started to tremble and he becomes too tired to walk anymore. The heavy fog the snowstorm was causing made things more difficult for him. He couldn't see most of what was in front of him except for a bit of the sidewalk and a couple streetlights. He uses as much energy he has left to continue walking a bit more through the snowstorm. He then bumps into a big concrete wall that appeared out of nowhere and falls on the floor. He looks up and sees that it was a statue of a horse standing on its back hooves. He looks around and sees Canterlot High School. Near the entrance of school, he spotted a concrete bench that looked a little bit comfortable for the night. He decides to get some rest and lays on the bench. As he started sleeping, he felt like he was on his last breath. He closed his eyes, expecting to die from the extreme cold temperatures.
At the same time, Sunset Shimmer was in her science lab, trying to find out how magic works in the human world. She has gone through many tests and experiments, but she couldn't find a proper answer. As she continued to work, the school custodian enters the science laboratory and tells her it is time to leave for the night.
Sunsets puts on her coat, puts all of her research material away and walks toward the school entrance. Just as she walks out of the school building a heavy wind blew onto her.
"Whoa! What a breeze!" She whispered to herself.
As she was walking towards her car, she spots Atlas, sleeping and shivering. Sunset was shocked and worried. He looked like he hasn't eaten anything for days. Not only that, the little boy was also sleeping in the middle of a snowstorm. Her first thought was to call the police in order for the poor boy to get help, but then she sees one of his eyes open, revealing a gold glow coming out, but continued to sleep. A thought then comes to her mind. What if he was another magical being from Equestria or some other dimension? That boy might have came through the portal, carrying some sort or special magical powers. And if government officials take him away, they might find out about his magic. He could get experimented on and they will probably never let him go.
There was only one choice. Sunset will take him to her house and help him. She carefully picks up Atlas and carries him to her car. "Don't worry little guy. I am going to get you some help," Sunset whispered to him.
Atlas felt a little bit of movement, but was too tired to realize what was going on, so he fell fast asleep. Sunset puts Atlas in the back of her car and drove home.
Her home was a small, single story house and it was not far from the school. Once inside, she laid Atlas on her bed. Sunset Shimmer was shocked when she saw a terrible gash on the side of his head and some bad scars and bruises on his arms after she pulls up the sleeves of his sweater. She lifts up the part of his hair covering his black eye, revealing the injury and then she immediately starts treating the wounds as best she can. Once she finished, she puts a warm blanket on Atlas. She then puts on her pajamas and goes to rest on her couch. Before she goes to sleep, she opens her magical journal and writes a message to Twilight in Equestria.
Dear Twilight,
I found a little boy sleeping on one of the benches
at Canterlot High. He doesn't look very good
and I believe he may be some sort of magical being.
I will write to you again once I figure out who
he is.
-Sunset

Atlas opened his eyes. He started to notice that he was lying on a warm and comfortable surface. He shot up and looked around to see that he is in a bedroom. He is confused on why he was sleeping on a bed. He clearly remembered sleeping on a cold, concrete bench in the middle of a snowy school. He felt something on the side of head and realized that it is a bandage. Touching the bandage made his head wound sting a bit. A white patch covered his black eye.
He hears cooking and somebody humming and started to smell something delicious. He left the bed to investigate. The cooking and humming stopped and once he got to the living room, he sees Sunset Shimmer in her purple pajamas, bringing a tray with a plate of steamy buttered pancakes and a glass of milk. She sees Atlas and walks towards him.
"Hey little guy! Glad to see that you're awake!" She happily said. Atlas gets scared and screams. He ran back to the bedroom and hid in a corner. Sunset puts the tray of food on a coffee table in front of the couch that she slept on and goes after him.
"Hey wait a minute! It's alright! Come back!" She said. Atlas didn't listen. He grabbed small items from a nightstand near Sunset's bed and started pelting her with them.
"Go away! Leave me alone!" Atlas screamed while continuing to hurl items at Sunset.
"Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Its okay! I am not going to hurt you!" Sunset said as she got closer to him. Atlas was still scared and didn't trust her and continued to scream and pelt Sunset with whatever he got his hands on. He then found a pair of sharp scissors and pointed it at her. Sunset sees the scissors and took gentle steps towards him.
"Please...just leave me alone...please..." He begged and whimpered. He started shaking and tears started to come out of his non-patched eye.
"Shhhhh...it is okay. I won't hurt you. I am only trying to help. I promise," Sunset said. She kneels to him and gently lends her hand to Atlas. "Just put the scissors down and we can talk about this."
Atlas hesitated to give his hand to her, but then accepted and dropped the scissors.
"Come on. Your breakfast is on the table and you look like you're starving, you poor thing." Sunset said with a worried look. She then walks out of the room. She looks back and sees Atlas still shaking in fear. He still seemed a bit hesitant to leave the room.
"Come on. There is nothing to worry about." Sunset said as she patted her knees.
Atlas then started taking gentle steps, continuing to act very cautious. He grabs Sunsets hand and holds onto it. They both walk back to the living room and once they got there, Atlas licks his lips by the sight of those pancakes. He hasn't had anything to eat for more than a week and was finally going to get food. He sat down and started eating like crazy. It tasted so good.
"MMMM..MMMM..so delicious!!!" Atlas said while eating. Within less than a minute, the plate was empty, but he was still hungry.
"Do you want more? I made some extra servings just in case!" Sunset said. Atlas's eyes widened. He wanted more food.
"More! Please, give me more!!!" He begged.
"Coming right up!" Sunset said. Within a few minutes, Atlas finished the other servings. He wiped his face and gave Sunset a big hug and shed tears of joy.
"Thank you miss! Thank you!." He said. Sunset smiled and hugged him back.
"You're welcome. Actually, I want to talk to you for a bit." Said Sunset. Atlas agreed and they both sat on the couch.
"My name is Sunset Shimmer. What is your name and where did you come from?" She asked.
"My name is Atlas. I don't remember much about who I am or where I came from. All I can remember is that after a flash of light, I appeared under a tree in the middle of a snowy forest in your world, and that was more than a week ago. I haven't ate anything since then, but I kept myself hydrated by eating snow. It was the only source of water I had." Atlas said.
Sunset had a worried look on her face. She wanted to know how he had gotten those injuries that she had treated. "Why do you look so badly hurt?" She asked.
"A few nights ago, I was wandering around the city. 2 hooded guys lured me to a very dark alley. I walked into the alley and all of a sudden something as hard as a rock hit me on my head and they started beating me to the ground. They kept punching and kicking me and they just... just wouldn't stop..." Atlas started crying. It was just too painful for him to tell more.
Sunset held onto Atlas' hand and gave him a caring hug. "Shhhh...it is alright. You don't have to tell me any more." She said. She wiped his tears with a sleeve of her pajamas, but he still continued to weep uncontrollably.
"I...I thought I was going to die..." He whimpered.
"Don't worry, Atlas. You're safe now and still breathing." she said with a caring voice. Atlas still continued to cry. She then started singing "Friendship Through The Ages" to Atlas, hoping it would make him feel better.
"Nothing stays the same for long, but when it changes doesn't mean its gone.
Time will always get away, as it leaves behind another day. Things may come and
things may go, some go fast and some go slow. Few things last that's all i know,
and friendship carries on through the ages." She sang.
Atlas stopped crying and smiled. Her beautiful singing did make him feel better, and soon he drifted off to sleep again. Sunset gently carried him back to the bedroom and tucked him in bed. Luckily for him, those thugs didn't use a knife or any other weapon to mug him. She then leaves Atlas to his sleep. Sunset sends a text to her friends telling them to come over.
"Girls,
Made a huge discovery last night.
Come over as soon as possible."
-Sunset
Within half an hour, Sci Twi, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, Applejack, and Pinkie Pie all arrived at Sunset's house. All of them were eager to see what the big discovery was. Sunset let them inside her house. They sat down in the living room and started talking
"Hey Sunset! We got the text you sent us. What's the huge discovery?" Said Rainbow.
"Was it magic? Was it cake? Was it pie? Was it magical cake and pie?" Pinkie said with excitement.
"Ah reckon' it has to nothin to do with sweet treats, Pinkie Pie, " Said Applejack.
"I-I hope it isn't anything bad..." Said Fluttershy.
"It is not bad. I found a little boy last night, and I think he could use our help," Sunset said.
"You found a little boy, darling?" aked Rarity.
"Yes. I found him sleeping on one of the concrete benches at the school. By the look of him, I think he is just lucky to be alive. He told me everything that he knows. I just have this huge feeling that he might be a magical being from another world," Sunset said.
"What should we do?' Said Sci Twi.
"We should throw him a "Welcome-to-our-world" party! It would be so fun!" Pinkie brought out her party cannon out of nowhere and fired it, decorating a small part of the living room.
"Shhhh Pinkie! Keep it down! The little boy is trying to rest right now," Sunset said.
"Oops! Sorry," Pinkie said.
"Wait a sec. Before we talk about what we need to do with him, lets first talk about if we can trust him. The last magical beings we faced were not friendly." Said Rainbow.
"Dash does have a point on that, Sunset. Are yah sure he is friendly and not harmful?" Applejack said.
"Not only that, are you sure it was a smart move to take a kid away while he slept on a bench?" asked Sci Twi.
"I didn't really have a choice when I decided to take him. He is more scared than harmful. When he first saw me, he just screamed in fear. I don't think he trusts the people in our world after an incident he had a few nights ago," Said Sunset.
"Oh my gosh! What happened?" Fluttershy said with concern.
"A few nights ago, 2 thugs assaulted and mugged him and he ended up badly hurt. He cried when he tried to talk about it," Sunset said. The others gasped.
"Awwwww! Poor little guy," Said Pinkie.
"For right now, I will be taking care of him. On Monday, I will take him to school and talk to Principle Celestia. Maybe she can find a way to help us on this," Said Sunset. The others agreed and soon left. Sunset went to check on Atlas and sees that he is still sleeping.
"I guess you will be staying with me for awhile little guy...Sleep well," She said to the sleeping Atlas.
