Chapter 1 - Two Personalities, One Mare

Load Full StoryNext Chapter

Pinkie Pie was a cheerful mare. A happy mare. A mare who loved parties and was smiling most, if not all, of the time. She loved to bounce around instead of trotting like most ponies. She was a great friend.

Then, there was Pinkamena. A distant, quiet, sorrowful mare. Tears would often find themselves rolling down the sides of her cheeks. Lonliness corrupted Pinkamena to the point of insanity. Or, at least, close to the point of insanity.

As a filly, Pinkamena farmed rocks. A boring job. She absolutely hated it, and got bored just thinking about it. She stood out from her family; she was the only one who saw a sonic rainboom while farming rocks one day. Seeing it changed her life.

Pinkamena grew up to be the Pinkie Pie of today. The cheerful, happy Pinkie Pie. Although, Pinkie Pie did get sad sometimes. Sad enough that her mane and tail would become straight. Sad enough to snap and be close to going insane.

Later, she'd end up with a cheerful smile and a puffy mane and tail again. Nopony knew why her mane and tail became straight when Pinkie was sad. Not even Pinkie herself fully understood. Until one day, her mane and tail became straight at other moments of her everyday life. Seemingly random moments.

When that happened, Pinkie's personality became that of Pinkamena's. When her mane and tail became puffy again, her personality would be that of herself. Her happy self. Her normal self.

Not that of her other self. Her other half. The half of her that stayed with her after becoming a full-grown mare. Whenever Pinkie looked in a mirror, the reflection looked like Pinkamena. Whenever Pinkamena looked in a mirror, the reflection looked like Pinkie.

Whatever was going on, Pinkie had to figure it out. After a while of having ideas that turned out to be false, she figured it out. She had a second personality. A split personality. A second half.

That second half was none other than Pinkamena. When Pinkie figured it out, she was confused at first. 'I have...two personalites?' She would think that to herself many times. When Pinkie's other half showed, it affected ponies around her.

The other ponies were distant from Pinkamena. They somewhat ignored her, or maybe they just though that she'd finally go completely insane. But she didn't. No insanity. Only sorrow, lonliness, and even some built-up anger. Pinkamena often cried herself to sleep at night thinking about her loneliness. In the morning, she'd be her normal self. She'd be Pinkie Pie once again.

Or, at least, she usually would. If her sorrow was too much, if her emotions were too harsh to handle...she'd stay Pinkamena for days, and maybe even weeks, at a time. Then, back to Pinkie. Back to happiness.

But like they say, it's easy to fake a smile.
