I woke up in his bedroom, deep within the headquarters of ONI. Most high-ranking officials would oftenly go home to see their children and spouses, or they would crawl up on their bed and start weeping. Unlike mu other associates, I rather enjoy the peace and quite of the facility. Besides, I still got more anomalies to catch up. I took a sip of my coffee and planted it on my cup-holder in my chair. There was a series of beep's at the other side of the room. He sighed softly and pushed his chair with him alongside with it to the other desktop.
I began clearing out several unread email's from the screen to get a better view of the new urgent mail. "This better be important..." After 5 minutes clearing over a hundred email's, I found the new email- whom was sent by Chief Director Mendez.
"Hmmm..." Benedict clicked on the email and read the following message.
Dear, Benedict
Chief Director Mendez, 20/5/2018
'Multiple anomalies detected in 'Crystal Cove'
Good morning Mr. Benedict, a few month's back one of our radar teams detected a strong signal or an anomaly safe to say. I'm sure you know about this and already began your research into it? Though while we dismissed this as a faulty communication systems, the anomaly happened again. Twice at the same time.
We believe that by the amount's of anomaly we've been receiving from this state could potentially harm our citizens if it occurs to often. I would like you to send your research regarding the anomalies and send it all to me and the crew in A.D.T at 1700 hours tops. Furthermore if the situation is grimmer than we anticipated, I would like you to investigate this in 'person'. I look forward to your research notes Benedict, and i'll see you in the field once I'm done evaluating the situation.
Regards;
Mendez Rodrigruèz, Chief Director of *ONI***
I began to type a response email to him, whilst uploading the document to him in the email as well. It didn't took too long seeing how fast he could type for most of the times. After 15 minutes of continuous writing, he sent the email and laid back against his chair, waiting for a response...
2 Hours later.
BING!
"Wai- who- wha?" He woke up from his 'little nap' and tapped the first unread email.
Dear, Mendèz.
Chief scientist Benedict, 20/5/2018
Good morning sir, as you asked for the document is in the attachment below.
Anomaly cases in designated city: 'Crystal Cove'.doc
Received and downloaded.
Furthermore, I would like to ask if I could get more samples or cases of the anomalies that have been occurring in that area. It is my duty to investigate the anomalies deeper and find the main reason to why this is all happening.
From your dear friend;
Benedict Collins, Chief scientist of *ONI***
'Okay now cross getting fired out of the notebook.' Benedict thought to himself, continuing to read the unread email's he have chose to dismissed earlier.
"Alright then time to write some more observation notes." I opened a new document and started typing.
Strange energy outbursts in the town of 'Crystal Cove'
By my observations and the 'awesome' team back in the A.D.T, it seem's like the energy outputs had just outputted more energy than in our sun's lifetime in a fracture of a second. Though the effects aren't catastrophic or even world ending, it may eventually harm humans and animals alike. Though we have very little facts about the anomalies, i believe some sort of cosmic energy is causing all of this. Possibly faulty satellites caught in the middle of a solar storm? highly impossible seeing how much energy the anomalies had just created in a second though it is a possibility.
That's all for my observations today, and maybe for some time now. The anomalies are rare and far to between to one another, it seems to hard to connect the dots but with the double anomaly maybe we could solve something about it.
This would be all for today |
My holo-phone began ringing the Halo: MJOLNIR mix signifying it's importance. I stood up from my chair and walked to the other end of my room to retrieve it.
Chief Director Mendez, >> Answer? << I tapped the answer button and brought the phone to my ears.
"Hello?" I asked, there was shuffling in the background but I can tell that Mendez was sitting down on his chair again.
"Hey Benedict listen, our 'Crystal Cove' satellites went dark just a few moments later, the team back in engineering found out that the anomaly had fried the communications and camera systems on board the satellite. The rest of the science team is currently busy trying to tackle the anomaly frying problem and none of them has any experiences in the field. So I'm sending you to investigate the town and if the anomaly is much more of a threat than we have anticipated, quarantine that 'area'. The president had authorized and granted you permission to quarantine the entire town if it's bigger than we thought. All further assets will be delivered via *ONI's** dropbox and we'll allow you to bring the holo-phone but on strict circumstances, more details on the document in dropbox. Now theres multiple homes you could choose; theres the small but comfy cottage, or the Cyrex penthouse, we could rent the top floor because the rest of the rooms are all full so go crazy." I thought this for a minute, trying to choose which home will be comfortable for both my studies and my personal necessities.*
"Cyrex penthouse sound's good, I prefer the view anyways"
"I thought so myself, alright then you will be picked up tomorrow so you better pack up while you still can."
"-One last thing Benedict, welcome back to the field."
I grinned widely. "Time to go back into action eh?"
I tapped the *end call button and put my phone to where it was left off before. On the otherside of the desk. I stretched both my arms and legs and went back to sleep.*
'Long day tomorrow buddy'
First day: -2 Weeks before the event’s of Equestria Girls 1-
‘So, today’s the day. The day I would have to go back to ‘school.’ I sighed sadly, turning over to my table to grab my stationary, book’s, and a laptop. I look around my temporarily room that ONI rented for me for the next year. The whole room was a mess. Papers and books were littered everywhere on the floor, and the dim lights from his monitors were the only ones to light up the room. Though the room was dirty, it had a sense of serene beauty. Calling it small would be an understatement; in fact, ONI rented him an entire loft in a highly expensive 40-story apartment. It had a mix feeling of modern and Victorian interior and outer design, just the way I like it.
I took one last glance around the apartment and closed the door behind me before heading towards the elevator. I glanced at my watch. 6:05AM.
I coughed silently and sighed. “Alright, i have enough time to eat breakfast first so why not kill time and enjoy a meal of egg’s and English muffins.” I tapped my chin, thinking about something, and then it hit me.
“Do they even serve English muffins?”
My time at the restaurant was uneventful, though the food was really enjoyable, I just can’t get over the fact that there are such annoying kid’s out there in this world. Sure you have the occasional diss and ‘yourself’ kid, but this was proving too much for me. So whilst I was eating, I had to endure the torture that is pre-mature millennium children following up on the latest and the most cancerous generation yet. Musicly, viner kids.
I shivered at the thought of them. The wind blew against my long dark trench coat and scarf, an odd mixture of clothing in summer, but nonetheless I enjoy every minute of it. I took one long and hearty sip of coffee and walked on the long, paved-stone of the street, that will lead me to the source of the anomalies. ‘Canterlot High’
I chuckled silently again. “Sound’s like something straight out from a fairy tale.” Whilst walking towards the school, I noticed a few people stopping in their tracks and glancing at me before whispering to their friends our continuing their journey. I don’t mind, after all, it’s not everyday you see a 6 foot tall student’s dressed in a long dark trench coat.
When I arrived at the supposed school, it looks odd. It had the same Victorian-Modern feel but there was a sense of rustic here and there. I shot a glance at the statue; a U.S general carrying his scabbard whilst riding his horse to victory. I smirked at the figure and walked inside. Almost instantaneously do I regret being the youngest agent in ONI. I can sense several stereotypes already, and I’m still at the entrance of the school.
As I walked across the hall, I got the occasional glance of curiosity alongside mummers from the forming crowd. I wonder why. Soon after, I got my answer when a fire-hair coloured girl walk up to me, giving me a smug face.
“U-ummm… Hi?” I waved at the girl whom in return, continued to glare at me with extreme cockiness- it almost made me nervous. Almost.
The crowd was staring at me, I tried fixing my falling glasses but to no avail. My glasses soon fell to the ground, leaving a ‘Clink’ sound to follow. I looked down at the floor and kneeled down to grab my glasses.
I coughed. “If you mind, I think I’m going to class now” The crowd soon dispersed to their lockers, continuing their business. Before the locker hall was out from my peripheral field of vision, the same girl run up to me and punch me on the shoulder, causing me- and my books- to fall down to the floor. I shot her a glare, tension rising for the both of us. Whilst I glared at her, she merely laughed cockily and grabbed me by the shirt.
She stared at me intensely in the eyes. “Listen up nerd, mess with me and I’ll mess with you.” I snickered mentally but knew better to do otherwise…
“Yes ma’am.”
“Good, now get out of my sight”
She walked away from me and took a turn to the left to the next set of lockers.
‘I wonder if ONI has anything about her, would be a shame if there is.”
I stood up and wiped away any sorts of dirt on my trench coat. Afterwards I grabbed my book’s and hold them tightly. The holo-pad ONI gave me vibrated within my trench coat. It light dimmed darkly in contrasts to the bright lights. I didn’t bother checking it and instead glanced at my watch instead. ‘7:15’
I mentally slapped my forehead. “Fan-fucking-tastic, now I’m in an unknown area, with no knowledge to where to go for the first session of school.” I growled in irritation and begin running to anywhere with a significant amount of people huddling themselves in a single classroom.
After 10 minutes of grueling running and searching, I managed to find the classroom with only 5 minutes to spare. Once I was on front of the door, I panted heavily and chuckled. “No wonder why they hated the drills.” I stood up again and slid open the classroom, only to see a mess of paper airplanes, gum, and… sweat? I began walking towards to the corner of the room and see a row of chairs empty. I sat in one of the chairs and began unpacking all the things I would need for today.
Whilst waiting for the teacher, I took notes on the student’s behavior and stature. The females have freakishly long eyelashes, ones that could put a fashion model to shame. Again their skin colour was a bit of an oddity and always kept reminding me that I should report this to the Chief Director. The bell rang and the final wave of student’s entered the classroom, each holding a single book or none at all. The teacher was obviously running late, for almost 5 minutes I’ve been impatiently tapping my fingers on the table whilst writing down several notes on my notebook.
The door slid opened and finally a dark skinned woman, dressed in formal wear began heading towards the teacher’s desk, putting whatever thing’s she brought on the table. She looked around the classroom, still in the intangible mess it always is. She sighed in annoyance and stood up in front of the classroom, obviously giving them a fake smile- though the other’s believed this act was true, I for one knew it wasn’t. The way she’s fidgeting, rubbing her thumb’s continuously, and has large dark bags below her eye, obviously states that she’s either tired or just really annoyed at the students, probably the latter. She coughed silently and waved at the crowd of student’s sitting in their desks.
“Welcome back to school student’s, I’m sure everyone had a terrific time in their holiday’s correct?” The student’s grunted in response, one that I found very disrespectful. In ONI, strict policies were made for their student’s, they would show discipline and respect towards their mentors, teachers, or higher ups.
She sighed for a second. “Now from what I’ve heard, there are a few new students here in this classroom so for those who don’t know who I am let me introduce you to myself.” The women gave them a bow whilst holding her skirt elegantly. It reminded me of the queen of England and how she would meet someone new with respect, something these students were clearly lacking.
“My name is Cherliè and I would be your teacher throughout the year before you graduate.” She grabbed a sheet of paper from her table and glance at the paper for a second. “Right we have one new student in our classroom, so may you introduce yourself Mr… Benedict?” The class turned their backs and stared at me for a few seconds, suffice to say it was really awkward.
I waved at them whilst nodding awkwardly. “That would be me” several student’s began giggling at me- not that much of a surprise seeing how most of the student’s here can’t seem to mind their own business- well that’s what my observations picked up.
“Would you want to introduce yourself?”
I thought about ONI again and what false past and personality they thought up for me; Brilliant, Shy, quite, and mysterious. “Sure” I stood up from my chair and walked towards the front of the classroom, where all the students fixed their stare at me.
“Hi, I’m Benedict” I waved at them, though the room is still filled with silence whilst staring at me.
“Are you vegan or not?”
I grunted mentally, I looked at the student who asked me that stupid question. He had electric blue hair and wore a jockey’s jacket, something that made me cringe mentally.
“No, I’m not vegan.” The room sighed in relief, whilst some of them are planting their hands on their chest. Honestly I don’t know what’s the problem with vegans in this school, back in ONI vegans are an oddity sure but they never complain about ‘how meat is bad or whatnot’
The room remained silent for the next few seconds, usually this would be the time the teacher excuses me-
“Right, well thank you for introducing yourself Benedict, though can you see principal Celestia after the day ends? She says that she need more information about you.” I nodded and returned to my chair.
The classes went by pretty quickly for me, most of the lessons being tought to us today was really easy though I saw most of the students struggling to grasp the topic; Astrophysics.
I chuckled to myself, putting my hands inside the pockets of my trench coat. “That was child's play” The rest of the trip to principle Celestia’s office was mostly silent, though in some moments I began talking to myself, a method I use commonly in the lab when I’m alone.
I knocked on the principles door. I stood there for a few moments before the door opened, revealing a tall, pale skin lady with multi colour hair. She smirked at me; she was at least a few inches taller than me.
“You must be Mr. Benedict, please come in, we have much to discuss” I entered the office, it looked really comfy to say the least. The reminded me of those cabin logs I was stationed in for a few months before returning to headquarters. I sat on the chair facing the desk, Celestia nodded and does the same thing this time however on the opposite side of the table.
“Right so we have a bit of a problem regarding your past history Mr. Benedict; most notably your parent’s name and addresses- if you don’t mind at least.” She stared at me for a few seconds, I looked down to my feet, a small frown forming in my face.
“If I may ask to what happened to them?”
I sniffed. “They’re in a better place now.” Celestia stood up and walked behind my back, patting it.
“I’m sorry for your loss”
“It’s alright, thanks however”
“Do you have any caretakers or family members taking care of you?” I shook my head.
“Well where do you live then?”
“I think it was Cyrex penthouse, floor 40. A55.” Celestia nodded as she begin writing down the address.
She smiled. “So you’re from a rich family I presume” I shook my head.
“Nope, I just had to crawl my way up there, solving some of the harder questions in the science community. Hence the reason why I got the penthouse.” She nodded.
“So you’re famous?”
“Technically speaking no, I prefer not to, too many paparazzi’s these days you know what I mean?” Celestia chuckled softly.
“I suppose so, being the principal of one of Crystal Cove’s most popular private academy has it’s perks as well”
“I thought hardly anyone goes to Crystal Cove.”
“They don’t, that’s why this school is so popular to the local town. It’s most famous for it’s ‘educated’ students.” She sighed, whilst frowning. “We don’t get visitors that often, especially the ones that lived in Manhattan before, most of them will usually go to some other country, state, or city more popular than ours, but honestly it’s good to see some new faces for once.” I smiled at her, nodding in response.
She tapped her pen on the table and hold together her hands on the table. “Well that’s all I wanted to know, enjoy your school year Benedict, hopefully we could talk again in the future?” I made my way towards the door and opened it, I looked at my back and smiled at Celestia.
“In the future ma’am, have a good evening”
“Oh you’re too polite” She teased whilst I chuckled slightly.
“That’s what they all say” I closed the door behind me and exited the school building.
‘School done, time to go to the library’
