Growing Up

Previous Chapter

Golden Note skidded around the corner. She had to find the princess as fast as possible. She checked every room that Celestia normally spent time in. She finally found her majesty resting on her back with her hooves behind her head in the royal canterlot gardens. "Your majesty! We need help in the nursery!" Shouted Golden from the other side of the garden. Celestia woke with a start and turned around.

"What is the problem, Golden Note?" Celestia said, only half awake. "Is it the young one?"

"Yes! He's having a magic surge!" Golden only just managed to get her words out, as her panicking was making it hard to speak.

Celestia laid a hoof on the frazzled mare's shoulder. "My dear, it's completely natural for a foal of his age to have magic surges."

"Not like these!" Golden replied, her voice cracking mid sentence. Celestia looked at her for a moment before coming to the conclusion that this was trouble.

"Let's go."

A few minutes later Golden and Celestia made it to the nursery. "He's in here your majesty." Golden said. The door creaked open slightly, before coming of it's hinges and landing on the floor with a load bang. The small foal in the centre of the room looked up at the sound, and saw the two mares in the charred doorway. Celestia looked at the door, then back up at the colt. He blinked. Miss Hooves peeked up from behind a table she had pulled over at the last minute. "Oh good, you're here! I don't know what happened! Normally when a foal has a magic surge it's quite small, but this was massive! I mean his horn started glowing, and then there was this really loud noise, and-" Celestia held up a hoof to stop her talking.

"I understand your confusion, Miss Hooves, but you must understand that even as a foal, an alicorn's magic is stronger than a full grown unicorn." Celestia explained. She would have to look after the foal herself untill the nursery was rebuilt.

As he grew up, the young colt learned alot faster than everypony else, often taking things apart and putting them together with ease. His nanny had noticed that he took alot of machines apart, most annoyingly the clock, as she had to correct it every time he did. All of his tampering with machinery, plus his incoherent attemps at speech, earned him the nickname 'Techno Babble'. Since Celestia had never been able to come up with a name that wasn't a mare's name, Techno Babble stuck.

"Mom. Mooooom. MOOOOOM. Momomomo-" Celestia shoved a hoof into her son's mouth. He had been moaning at her all day. Tech continued to mumble into his mothers hoof, apparently not noticing the hoof in his mouth. Celestia sighed. She had promised to take him to flight school today, and he wasn't going to let her forget it.

"Techno Babble, we are leaving soon. Now please go and get washed." Celestia watched as her son stopped speaking into her hoof, and looked at her with pleading eyes. She knew he didn't want to wash, but it would atleast get him to leave her alone for long enough to make herself look presentable. She had been up all night, listening to Tech in his bedroom. When he got excited, he did not calm down. He was like an endless stream of energy in pony form.

Celestia removed her hoof, instantly regretting it. "-and I don't want to get washed!" Celestia enveloped him with a golden glow, lifting him up and carrying him to the bathroom.

After an hour, Tech and his mother left the bathroom, Tech dripping all over the floor, Celestia wearing a triumphant grin. She knelt down and dried his mane with a small towel. When she pulled the towel off of his head, his mane poofed up in a small black afro, causing Celestia to giggle quietly. Tech looked up at his now round mane and frowned. Celestia was trying as hard as possible not to burst out laughing at the small cross eyed ponie infront of her, and not doing as well as she had hoped.
