Case 1 part 2: The return home. (Edited.)

The tension surrounding the room was incredibly thick, it seemed that Spike's return was as much as he had anticipated. Dreadful.

"You are The Doctor of Death?" Twilight asked.

"That is correct Twilight." Spike muttered into his tea cup.

"So are you a mortician?" Rarity asked.

"I have a doctorate in Forensic Pathology."

"What is that if you don't mind me asking?" Fluttershy asked.

"Forensic pathology is a job of forensics. It is pathology that focuses on determining the cause of death by examining a corpse. The post mortem is performed by a medical examiner, usually during the investigation of criminal law cases and civil law cases in some jurisdictions." Twilight and Spike said in unison. Twilight blushed and Spike looked at her.

"You never change do you Twilight?" Spike looked at Twilight.

"When I heard of a murder in Ponyville I wanted to study up on motives and well the human body."

"You always were so astute Twilight." Spike sipped his tea while sitting in the library. "But it's not just as simple as you would have to believe."

"What it's like working with dead bodies?" Rainbow blurted out as it was on the minds of all the girls in the room.

"Well it's not so much a physically demanding job as yours or Applejack's but more emotionally and mentally draining." Spike replied.

"How so?" Rarity wondered.

"The bodies I study were once alive Rarity. Seeing them cold, and drained of life while I still continue to live is incredibly taxing on my mental well being."

"That is understandable." Rarity shifted nervously.

Spike looked over at the resident party planner. "Pinkie you haven't said anything may I ask why?"

"I'm still trying to figure out why you would choose a career so.....dark, it just doesn't seem like something that would be like you when you left." Pinkie said.

"I can see why that would confuse you Pinkie. So I'm going to tell you all why I chose to do this, when I was younger I looked up to you girls. You are national heroes that have saved the country more than once." The girls all blushed at that, even Rainbow and Applejack. "But while you girls were off having your own adventures I couldn't help but feel, lost in my own skin. Yeah sure you showed me that you weren't just Twilight's friends but my friends as well and I really appreciate that. But I simply felt that I couldn't just stay as Twilight assistant forever and I know that we didn't depart on the best of terms but hopefully I wished that you girls would eventually see things from my perspective and that I needed to be free. I needed something to call my own and my own accomplishments, I chose something so drastically different at the time to separate me from the shadows that you had cast with your heroic deeds." Spike finished drinking his cup of tea that Twilight had set out for him and the girls. "I'm sorry if my career disturbs any of you, it was at the time a very distinct way that I could separate from the shadows of The Elements of Harmony."

"I understand." Pinkie spoke up. "It may not be fun but it's the way that you get your own spotlight on the stage so to speak."

"Exactly. Now if you girls don't mind I have to get to work. Criminals must be brought to justice." Spike stood up and got his suit jacket.

"Do you mind if I come along with you Spike?" Twilight asked.

"As much as I would like to have your intellect alongside me in my investigation, that's something that you would have to ask someone else permission for. The local chief of police would be a good start or the mayor." Spike said while gathering his suitcases.

"Wait, I forgot to ask something." Rarity mentioned.

"Yes?"

"Do you have anywhere to stay at the moment?"

"Currently, no."

"Then you can stay here!" Twilight offered.

"Only temporarily." Spike said. "I would like to find a place of my own if you don't mind."

"It's not a problem at all."

"WAIT!!!" Pinkie shouted.

"I know what you're going to say Pinkie and I don't know how I would feel about a party all things considered." Spike said.

"I guess I understand." Pinkie said and the girls soon said their good-byes and left to get back to what they were previously doing before Spike had arrived. That left Spike and Twilight in the library alone with each other.

"Spike if you don't mind me saying. I'm proud of you." The librarian said to her adoptive little brother as she put away the tea set.

Spike remained silent as he was trying to decide what to say before Twilight said something that interrupted his train of thought.

"I know that it's hard to think of what could have been with all those victims but think about this. Their families are ensured that their loved one's life was not in vain and that the ones responsible are locked away, and it brings peace to the soul of the victims."

"Sometimes you are too smart for your own good." Spike said to her. "But we must hurry to the Mayor's office."

"What for?"

"Well you did say that you wanted to help me. The mayor is the one that could be the most helpful as long as the chief of police cooperates." Spike said while grabbing one of his suitcases.

"I thought I said that you could leave those here."

Spike stared at her for a minute and blinked, then he looked at his suitcase. "No this is the case for my tools."

"Oh well then I apologize." Twilight said.

"It's fine." Spike grabbed his black fedora off the coat rack. "We need to get going."

Twilight nodded. "Of course."

Author's Note

More comments please, they feed my train of thought. Also each case will have 4 or 5 parts to them perhaps 5 or 6. It's unknown at this point and my goal is to do at least 10 cases. When I reach that goal I may do more depending on how you guys like it or not.
