Spike and Twilight were waiting in the mayor's office lobby and Spike was currently reading a magazine. Twilight however couldn't focus she seemed to have restless leg syndrome and she kept on shifting. It didn't take a genius to figure out that something was up. "Something the matter Twilight?"

"How could you tell?"

"The nervous twitching." Spike said.

"Oh." Twilight said. "I don't know it just feels so sudden, I just can't place my feelings. I'm happy that you're back but the way we departed I still hate what you said."

"To be honest, I feel the same way. But these things are superfluous to the task at hand right now." Spike said putting the magazine down.

"Why?" Twilight asked reluctantly.

"Like I said, I lived in the shadows of you girls and a lot of times. I was forgotten, it made me feel inadequate and that turned to hate. But right now I want to focus on the case right
now but we can't continue until you receive permission." Spike said.

"Okay." Twilight stopped fidgeting.

"Mr. Spike, Ms. Sparkle the mayor will see you now."

The pair got up and walked into the office Mayor Mare was surprised to see Spike. "Spike is that you? I haven't seen you in years!"

"Can we please skip the formalities right now. We're here on business." Spike spoke with a sharp chill in his voice.

"Of course what is it that you need?"

"It's not what I need but what Twilight needs." Spike said as he explained what he was doing here and why he was in her office and just exactly what type of work ethic he has.

The Mayor nodded. "Police Chief Cold Justice and I have always been on good terms so I highly doubt he would go against my good judgement. Consider your request granted, I'll have my secretary draw up some papers to make sure that the police don't get in the way and to make sure that they give you what you need."

"Thank you Mayor Mare." Twilight thanked her.

"Thank you for contacting Princess Celestia so that she could send in Spike here."

"I'm here on business not pleasure." Spike put as he left the office.

"What's gotten into him?" Mayor Mare asked Twilight.

"It's a very long story." Twilight answered. The duo left city hall and walked side by side. "So where do we start now?"

"At the crime scene." Spike said. "It may contain possible motive and evidence."

"The police have already swept the area for anything they could find." Twilight said.

"There's a reason why I've been so successful is because I could pick up on clues that others have missed. I'm not doubting the local police but it's always good to have a second pair of eyes to see what others have missed." Spike said. "Do you know if they have moved the body yet?"

"No, I'm not aware. The police only get in touch with me when they need to contact the princess." Twilight said as they went up to the crime scene with police surrounding it.

"Whoa buddy, no civilians get to see the scene of the crime." One of the officers that was doing crowd control said.

"I'm the Forensic Pathologist that your chief asked for, Dr. Spike Gilspotten." Spike said. "This is my temporary assistant Miss Twilight Sparkle, we have permission from the Mayor to be here so please stand aside."

"Could you please wait sir as I check with my superiors?"

"Not at all." Spike replied as the officer was replaced with another for crowd control.

The officer then returned. "My apologies sir and madam, come on in." She said as she lifted the 'do not cross' tape for the both of them.

"Thank you." Spike said as he ducked under the tape with Twilight following him. When he finally saw the scene he sighed as the body was relocated to the Coroner's. He turned to one of the police officers. "Excuse me, what is your name?"

"Sergeant Shield." The officer replied.

"Could you please get me a copy of all the photographical evidence of the scene of the crime when it was discovered by the police?"

"Sure thing Doctor." Sergeant Shield said as he went to go get it.

"What do you need those for?" Twilight asked.

"Generally what I said earlier but the body is not here to examine so I can't determine a lot from just this." Spike said as he received the copies of the photos from the sergeant and had begun to leave the scene with Twilight.

"You certainly know a lot about investigation for being in the Forensic field." Twilight said as she trailed along.

Spike straightened his tie and continued to walk along to the police station. "Now let's head into the police station and talk to Chief Justice." Spike said as they headed inside. Twilight walked along as Spike spoke to the the secretary in the front desk. "Excuse me I'm Dr. Spike Gilspotten, I'm the forensic pathologist that is here by the order of Mayor Mare and Princess Celestia. I'd like to speak to Police Chief Cold Justice."

The secretary made a phone call as Spike and Twilight stepped back. Twilight looked at Spike, "Why are you using your middle name for your last name?"

"Because if I drop the name Solaris then they will start bowing to me." Spike squinted his eyes in frustration as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

"You could have used my last name." Twilight mumbled thinking that Spike didn't hear it.

"We were very angry with each other when I entered medical school; to simply put I was incredibly pissed off." Spike said as he waited in the lobby with Twilight.

“Are you still upset?” She was curious.

“I don’t know. One side of me is delighted to see you after all these years, with the way that we departed one another’s company it still hurts very much.” Spike was going to continue until he was cut off by the secretary.

“Chief Justice will see you now Mr.Gilspotten and Ms.Sparkle.”

“Thank you.” Twilight thanked her, Spike was too busy walking ahead to the office of the local Chief of Police for Ponyville. Twilight was the same as Spike, with her emotions at least.
She really couldn’t tell if she should be proud of Spike for being mature enough to come back or angry at the way they departed. “I don’t have time to be angry with him right now, I need to focus on the case.” Twilight jogged to catch up with Spike as he entered the office.

“Police Chief Justice I presume?” Spike asked as he entered.

“You must be Dr. Spike Gilspotten, I received word of your arrival and request from the Mayor’s office just a hour ago. If you two would please sit down so that we can discuss my concerns with what you two intend to do.”

“Certainly.” Spike said as he sat in a chair with Twilight joining him in the other chair.

“Thank you. Now, first and foremost is that my main concern is the confidentiality of the case especially you Ms. Sparkle.”

“Me, what is the concern with me?”

“Not only are you extremely close with the Princess, you are a national hero if the press got a hold that you were helping work on the case they would have a media frenzy. Discord was enough for Ponyville, I’m sure that you would understand.” Chief Justice explained.

“Ah yes, rest assured that I will keep tight lipped about this and will do my best to stay out of the newspapers and media as much as possible.” Twilight agreed.

“Alright, my next concern is about you Doctor.” The Chief said. “You conduct your investigation, a lot like a detective would, it’s nothing that I myself mind at all but I expect you to have a real detective with you when investigating.”

“No problem at all.” Spike agreed to the terms.

“I also had one of my officers draw up this confidentiality agreement so that nothing within any investigation that the two of you do is released to the public until said investigation is concluded.” He gave the two the papers which they both signed.

"Now that that's all out of the way, we will begin our investigation." Spike said.
