Fable 2: Equestrian Cove
The Proposal
Previous ChapterSome time had passed and not much had happened. Sparrow, Prince, and the rest of the gang were currently studying the chemical composition of clouds and what causes them to create any kind of reaction. Reason being? Fluttershy's proposal idea.
"Well, if we cover you with colored sap while you're doing it it may be able to spray onto the clouds, but I'm not entirely sure." Twilight suggested, looking over some notes.
"I don't know much about chemicals. But I do know Rainbow likes stuff with...boom. Maybe a mix of gasoline and black powder mixed and misted through the sky would be better." Sparrow tossed around a paper wad.
"Maybe, but wouldn't that be dangerous?" Twilight asked.
"More dangerous than an already fragile frame breaking the sound barrier? Which, I'm assuming, isn't very...safe?" Sparrow answered coyly.
"I suppose you're right...Fluttershy, you sure you'll be able to do this?" Twilight turned to the butter mare, who was scribbling down some ideas.
"I'm sure, I've been practicing for weeks!" Fluttershy said with false bravado.
"Fluttershy, you have to be sure you can do it. Twilight, you said there is a spell that could give someone wings. Like with Rarity. You should use it on Dad and he can help Fluttershy train. Seeing how, and you said this dad, he isn't exactly made for working with chemicals." Prince crossed his arms, bored.
"I suppose I could...but if Rainbow Dash spots the two of them, what then?" Twilight tapped a hoof idly.
"He'll have to improvise." Prince sighed. They had been at this for hours.
"Okay, I'll try, but I don't know if I can give Sparrow wings, I've only ever tested it on Rarity." Twilight grasped a book in her magic from the shelve and brought it to herself. After searching for a minute she asked Sparrow to get in the center off the room.
"ONE RULE TWILIGHT!" Sparrow shouted.
"What?"
"If you take off my BEAUTIFUL face, I'll take off yours." Sparrow laughed. Twilight rolled her eyes before taking a last look at the page and lighting up her horn. Sparrow was lifted from the floor and quickly surrounded by a blue, ribbon-like, aura. It enveloped him, tightened, and released. He dropped suddenly and stood, coughing.
"Okay...when you said wings, I didn't know you meant bloody BUTTERFLY WINGS!" Sparrow shouted, flicking the colorful wing before wincing at the unexpected pain.
"Yeah, don't do that." Twilight said simply, stifling a laugh.
"Whatever, come on Fluttershy, there is training to be done."
Just outside of Ponyville.
"I...I can't!" Fluttershy wailed, covered in bruises and sweat.
"Listen. I'm your friend and all, but it's time for me to get serious. Either you do it and we can leave, or you give up and we stay in this field until you decide to keep trying. Because we're not leaving until you do this." Sparrow explained bluntly.
"Okay..." Fluttershy squeaked. She started back up into the sky and started doing the maneuvers she saw Rainbow Dash do when she tried to do it.
"Come on..." Sparrow watched from the ground. She was spinning the clouds now.
"Just about got it..." Sparrow clenched a fist. Making the plummet.
"Rejected..." Sparrow said bitterly as he watched Fluttershy be slang-shot away. Sparrow quickly shot after her. He learned he could use Flame as a booster. He found her with her eyes spinning. She got stuck in a tree. Sparrow helped her down and looked her over to see what could be a problem.
"I know what the problem is. The problem is your hair, er, mane. It's too long and drags on the wind." Sparrow nodded to himself.
"What should I do?" Fluttershy asked.
"We need to trim it." Sparrow drew his sword.
"Do we really...?" Fluttershy asked meekly.
"It's not like I'll make you bald, just a trim." Sparrow shrugged.
"Okay...do it." Fluttershy swallowed. Sparrow, in spite of what the villagers remarked, had taken lessons in cutting hair. So it wouldn't be TOO sloppy of a job. After it was finished the resulting product was this.
"This isn't to bad..." Fluttershy remarked.
"You ready to try again?" Sparrow then asked, wiping some stray pink hairs off his blade before sheathing it.
Two hours later
Sparrow had to bandage Fluttershy after a failed attempt had sent her flying into a thorn-bush. They had both agreed that this would be the last try of the day.
"Round the clouds...up...down...almost there...almost....come on..." Sparrow was in the sky this time.
"There is the barrier, come on..." The barrier grew to sharper angle.
"Almost there...!" It grew even sharper. He could see Fluttershy's face rippling from the wind. With a final flap of her wings she broke the barrier. The sky flashed a brilliant mix of yellow and pink for a couple seconds. Well, that, AND a deafening boom were the results.
"Yes! She...finally...did it!"
Library
The entire frame of the building shook, books flew off the shelves, and the creatures inside were thrown to the floor.
"I guess that was it?" Prince stood shakily.
"At least we know she can do it. Let's just hope Dash doesn't get too suspicious. Which she probably will." Twilight looked out a nearby window.
"Well, back to work I guess." Twilight returned to her desk.
Several more hours passed, Fluttershy and Sparrow returned, and the rest of the gang had finished their mixture. Fluttershy would have to practice it several more times before she was ready though.
Serious shit, like, "snatch the pebble from my hand while flying several hundred miles per hour" shit.
Anyways, two more weeks, eight more Booms, seventeen different chemicals. Why Twilight would never come to realize there was a sky-writing spell I'll never know. All of this while Dash had no idea.
"It may not on our actual anniversary, but I think I'm ready." Fluttershy said after setting down her glass of water.
"Are you absolutely sure? You really don't want to spill during this." Prince said sternly.
"I'm sure. How long would it take to set everything up?" Fluttershy sat on a nearby stool.
"If they're aren't any distractions maybe an hour." Twilight began to place some vials and test-tubes in a saddle-bag mindlessly. She strapped the bag on and went towards the door with Prince.
"I'll get Dash and bring her to the town square." Sparrow threw his thumb to the general direction of the Weather Watcher building.
"Sounds great." And with that, they all left.
~~Forty minutes later~~
"Dad, it's ready, do you have Dash?" Prince telepathically sent.
"I do, be there in ten minutes." Sparrow responded.
It was time, everything was perfect. Sparrow and Dash were sitting on a bench overlooking the field.
"Fluttershy is taking off, seven minutes."
"So Dash, how are you and Fluttershy?" Sparrow tried to start smalltalk.
"We're good...she's been quiet though. More than normal, that is. Do you think she's...seeing someone else?" Dash asked.
"Wow, I don't mean to offend but...Fluttershy? Cheating? Laughable. And why jump straight to cheating?" Sparrow laughed briefly.
"I can see what you mean, I guess the thing with Rarity and Pinkie has me...paranoid." Dash laughed as well.
"The sky is pretty colorful right now."
"Yeah, it i- Is that Fluttershy?" Dash pointed a hoof at the flying yellow spec.
"It is, I wonder what she's up to?" Sparrow feigned ignorance. Even from here, what would happen is obvious.
"She isn't."
"Oh, she is." Sparrow grinned as he saw the cone sharpen and burst, sending the timid pony to just above mach-2. The vials planted in the surrounding clouds burst collectively. The clouds were colored and burst into the appropriate letters to spell out:
"Rainbow Dash, will you marry me?" Dash read quietly beside Sparrow. "OhmygoshOhmygoshOhmygosh!" She darted away, leaving Sparrow to walk.
~~The next month~~
It was set, the marriage, the ceremony started in less than a minute. Rarity had made the dresses and suits for everyone, set up the wedding, and basically being her element to the fullest extent she could. The pastor asked for all to be quiet and started, he recited the phrases, the two mares repeated them, and then they shared their kiss after putting on the wedding ear-rings. No hands, no fingers, it made sense.
Peace. Everlasting peace marks our end.
For now.
