It was a cool summers night in Ponyville as I walked through the underbrush of the Whitetail woods. The wind blew softly blowing my long pink mane in my face. In a relaxed motion I brushed the slight nuisance away and sighed a content sigh when another, weaker, gust of wind blew through my yellow feathers.
I looked up skyward toward Luna's beautiful moon, the stars complimenting it's bright glow, and smiled slightly. It was about nine o'clock and I knew full well of the dangers of walking through the woods at this time of night, but after a stressful day I needed some time off. Frowning slightly I looked back ahead of me once the moon had been eaten by dark green leaves, flinching slightly when realizing my muzzle had been inches away from the hard bark of a tree trunk.
I mentally facehoofed. I had seen the branches, but had been too lost in my thoughts. I walked in a curve around the trunk, that had to have been as thick as I am long, and headed forward in a straight line once again. My mind wandered off and began to play the events of earlier today in my head.
I looked over at the clock, it was around one-thirty. Pursing my lips, my attention was turned back to the other five ponies in the crystal castle talking among themselves.
"Are ya sure this is the right thing to do Twi?" I heard my friend, Applejack, ask.
I turned my attention to the purple alicorn, who seemed to be in distress, being addressed," I really don't know if it is, Applejack." she said solemnly.
My other friend, Rarity, piped in," Well it seems a bit barbaric to me." she shuddered.
Rainbow Dash slammed her hoof down on the table in the middle of our throne 'circle'," Well, I don't know about you, Twilight, but I'm not into murdering!" she shouted angrily," And I really didn't think you were into it yourself." she said quieter, sitting back into her chair.
I lay back in my throne and rubbed my temples glancing over to a mute Pinkie Pie, whose hair was not quite like the day of her birthday a couple of years back but still slightly deflated. She stared off into space with a seemingly permanent stare and the opposite of how big her smile usually was. The sight made my own frown lengthen. My sigh was short, quick, and loud, drawing a few eyes my way and successfully
making my cheeks fluster.
I tuned out the other girls once again in mid-sentence, Twilight was saying something about how she 'didn't want to do it, but saw it as the right thing', my mind wandered to the Basilisk captor. It had turned many to stone. I knew it the first time I saw it, but me being my stupid sympathetic self had hurt so many other ponies.
A tear ran down my face as I recounted how I had helped it in the Everfree forest while returning from a tea visit from Zecora's. It was trapped. Suddenly, feeling less guilty, I remembered how I had helped it from a fallen tree trunk. I recounted every detail. It was raining.. The mud around the tree had gotten too loose and the poor guy was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. It was only a youngling, though I could see Twilight's logic. I stiffened, holding back the water-works as a chill went down my spine. Somepony was suggesting to kill something and I agreed? My stomach flipped and I began feeling a bit queasy.
Turning back to the past events I recalled how I had brought it back to my cottage and treated its injuries. After a while I fell asleep on my couch. I squeezed my eyes shut feeling the guilt creep back up my body. A little while later I woke up to find it had gotten out, shattering my window. Many ponies here enjoy night strolls.. I clenched my jaw.
Suddenly my eyes widened and my throat dried. She didn't know how Twilight hadn't figured it out, her being the smart one in their group. I looked back up with slightly widened eyes. I remembered reading a book on mythical creatures a few weeks back. "Twilight." I spoke up softly.
Eight eyes were now looking in my direction expectantly." Um.. Basilisks aren't.." I broke off into an inaudible sentence. They all looked at me quizzically, save for Pinkie, who looked like she didn't want to be there.
"Uh, Basilisks what?" Rainbow asked rudely, Twilight shot her a look.
"Uh, Basilisks aren't .." once again I trailed off into inaudible squeaks. The others only gave me another funny look. I mentally facehoofed at myself. Taking a deep breath I said, looking Twilight sternly in the eye," Basilisks aren't native to this part of Equestria."
She looked at me with an unhinged jaw," Sweet Celestia, how could I forget!" exclaiming and putting my earlier mental facehoofs into action, honestly I was afraid if she'd done it any harder her hoof would've gone through her head. After calming down she began to think with wide eyes and a small smile. Soon her eyes began to return to their normal size and her frown lengthened," I'm afraid that doesn't really change out situation, Fluttershy. It still would take too much work and energy to move it to another location.
My heart shattered," B-b-b-b-but..." I said softly unable to speak whole words.
Pinkie, for the first time in about half an hour, looked up at Twilight with a hurt look. The other girls looked at her in surprise," How could you do that?"
"Do what, Pinkie?" Twilight asked as I brought my attention to her, giving her a dead-pan look.
"Take a life." Pinkie whispered returning her gaze back to the floor.
Wincing Twilight tried to speak a sentence, but ultimately failed. Though, after around a minute of lip movements, making her look like a fish, she was able to say," I don't think I'm going to win in this argument, nor do I really want to" she lowered her head to the ground like a scorned foal.
After a while we were able to come up with an agreement that didn't risk the Basilisk's chance for further existence. I closed my eyes and turned my head skyward once more, the moon now shining on me and the body of water in front of me. Not soon before had I come to my spot of tranquility. It was a small lake, that could be considered a sizeable pond, that was surrounded by the wilderness of the peaceful Whitetail Wood.
I hope moving him into the Badlands tomorrow doesn't turn into another mess like today. I thought as I stood up and began to walk in the direction of Ponyville. I knew it would be an interesting adventure, but I have had enough stress for one day. It would have to wait.

Dunno it just came and I wrote it in first person, for some reason, until I began to lose inspiration and tried to finish it, hopefully it wasn't too abruptly. Let me know in the comments.
