Rarity was considered a new life form by the government, so they wanted to learn everything they could about her. She didn’t like going to the doctor in Equestria but now she had to submit to these examinations, as it was one of her many conditions to keep from being locked up in a lab. Richard always came along to keep her company.

The doctor was taking measurements, weight, body mass, blood pressure, heart rate and so on. Rarity sat down on the examination table as a doctor now examined her reflexes with a small hammer. With a gentle bump of the rubber hammer to her left knee caused her right leg to kick. The doctor scratched her head and then tried the other knee, which caused her left leg front leg to twitch. Richard was sitting in a chair nearby watching with amusement.

“Nightmare Night?” He asked her.

“That’s right, it’s like your Halloween in many ways, foals dress up and go door to door asking for candy,” She explained.

“I haven’t dressed up in a costume for years, and I get enough sweets at work,” Richard said watching the doctor.

“Why don’t…” She started talking when the doctor pulled out a tongue depress.

“Please open your mouth and say aaahhhhh,” The doctor asked her.

“Aaaahhhh…” Rarity opened her mouth wide.

The doctor pushed down on her tongue looking in her mouth curiously with a small flashlight. She pulled back and then took some notes.

“Doctor are we finished now?” Rarity asked her licking her lips and adjusted her jaw.

“Why yes, we are done for the week, thank you for coming.” She said and helped Rarity off the table.

Richard opened the office door for her and Rarity walking into the hallway, her hooves clopped against the floor tiles. She looked around noticing men in white lab coats working on different projects. Some of them stopped to stare at her and other started talking to each other.

“So yeah, I don’t dress up for Halloween, I feel too old for that now,” Richard said getting her attention back.

“You're never too old to have fun Richard, in Equestria we also had a festival and dancing,” Rarity said look back at him with her blue eyes. “I hope one day, I can take you there,” She said with a gentle smile.

“Hmm,” Richard nodded, thinking about something as they walked out of the government building.

“Mr. Labonte, please reconsider,” Michael said, looking down at him with his sunglasses.

“Please call me Richard,” He said looking up at him. “She needs to get out of the house, I know it goes against the rules, but I want to take her to a Halloween costume party,” Richard said leaning against his SUV.

“How am I supposed to do my job to keep her safe in such a public place,” He said removing his sunglasses to rub the bridge of his nose.

“Why not come to the party, you are already dressed like a MIB, right Agent M,” Richard said with a grin.

“I’ll neutralize your ass if something goes wrong Richard,” Michael said, putting his sunglasses back on.

A few minutes later Richard returned home. He found Rarity sitting on the sofa looking at a magazine that was floating in front of her.

“Welcome back dear,” Rarity said, looking over the magazine.

“What are you looking at?” He said and sat down next to her.

“Halloween costumes, there are so many choices,” She said and flipped the page. “Your females sure like to show their legs and breasts,” Rarity said looking at adult selection.

“The costumes seem to get smaller every year,” He said and then showed her some of the men's choices.

“The fan-tom of the up..er,” Rarity said, trying to read the description.

“The phantom of the opera,” Richard corrected her.

“Richard, would you dress up as this mysterious phantom for me?” She asked, giggling pointing at him with a hoof and fluttered her eyelashes.

Richard felt a little warm they way she was looking at him. “Rarity would you like to go to a Halloween dance with me?” He asked her in a soft voice.

The magazine stopped glowing and fell to the floor. Rarity blinked for a moment and then a huge smile spread across her face, but then she looked concerned.

“Yes, of course, I would, bu.. but what about the rules, how can I go out?” She asked looking at him.

“You already have the best costume in town,” Richard said with a smile and picked up the magazine off the floor.

Richard wanted to buy his costume, but Rarity insisted that she make it. The basement was glowing blue as fabrics floated in the air being sewed together.

He turned on the radio and a very familiar Halloween song started playing.

I was working in the lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight…

Rarity hummed to the song as she concentrated on her creations. Richard watched the small white unicorn dancing around as his costume took shape.

“Richard please stand right here and don’t move,” She said standing back.

“Yes, my master,” He said in a bad Igor impersonation.

“Arms out silly,” Rarity said with a smirk.

Richard held out his arms, his blue shirt unbuttoned then flew off him.

“Hey, I need that!” Richard said, feeling a chill on his bare skin.

A white pleated shirt floated onto him and then buttoned up to his amazement. With some minor alterations, it fit just right. Richard was about to check his new shirt when his pants unbuckled and his zipper dropped.

“Hey, come on now!” He said quickly grabbed his pants before they fell down.

“Someone is a little shy,” She said with a giggle and turned around.

A black pair of pants dropped in right in front of him.

“No peeking,” Richard said and quickly removed his jeans and slipped on the black pants and pulled up the zipper. “Ok, done,”

Rarity turned around and made some minor adjustments to the tuxedo pants. Then came the red cummberbund and matching tie. Richard grabbed the tuxedo jacket and slipped his arms into it.

“Looking very handsome dear, and now for the final piece,” She said and a box opened revealing a half mask.

Richard grabbed the mask and placed it on slowly covering half his face. He then slipped on a pair of white gloves and looked at Rarity.

“Now I am the phantom of the opera, mahaha!” Richard said with a exaggerate laugh.

Grinding he reached out trying to grab Rarity who jumped out of the way giggling. His fingers wiggled as he followed her around the basement.

“No Tickling Richard, I’m serious,” Rarity said, trying not to laugh.

Richard grabbed her, but she didn’t struggle back. Her eyes closed, expecting to be tickled, but Richard only caressed her. Kneeling down his fingers gently stroked her face and then over her pointed ears and along her sides. She could hear her heart thumping loudly as she stood quietly and then rubbed her face against his and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.

“You sure know how to, make a mare feel wanted now, dear can you help me choose my costume,” She said looking back at her collection of fabrics.

Later that evening...

Richard’s SUV pulled into the parking lot near a local high school. He parked near a full-size white car. Michael walked up to SUV fully dressed in a black tux with his sunglasses on. Walking next to him was a lady wearing green makeup, pointy ears, silver, clothing and what looked like Insect antennae on her head. Richard opened the door, stepped out fully dress up as the phantom of the opera with his black cape and half mask.

“Hello, Michael nice to see you, and who is this nice lady?” Richard said with a smile.

“This is my wife Rachel,” Michael said looking serious.

“Nice to meet you, just a moment, I need to help Rarity out,” He said and opened the back door.

Richard held onto her artificial wings as she climbed out and landed on her hooves. She was dressed as a vampire pony, wearing a red cape that covered most of her body. Rarity mane was now back and her eyes glowed red, it was a simple spell to alter her appearance.

“Michael is that her?” Rachel said, holding onto his arm nervously.

“Yes, this is Rarity,” Michael said, looking at her raised his left eyebrow.

“Nice to meet you,” Rarity smiled as her eyes changed back to a normal blue.

“My name Rachel Knight,” She said releasing Michael’s arm.

“A pleasure, may I ask, what is that costume you are wearing?” Rarity asked her.

“Space Alien,” Rachel said, sounding not so sure.

“Let's head inside before we freeze out here,” Richard suggested, pointing to the entrance.

Michael followed them from behind looking out for anything unusual.

They felt a rush of warm air as they entered the building. Halloween music echoed in the halls and got louder the closer they got to the gym. There were a man and women sitting behind a table with a metal box and a two ticket rolls.

“Welcome to the dance,” The man said with a smile.

“Thank you, can I have two tickets, please,” Richard asked, opening his wallet to pay.

“So one adult and one for the… little girl,” He said noticing the vampire pony,

“Just because I don’t look my age doesn’t mean, I am a child,” Rarity said rearing up, looking like she was standing on two legs with her front legs crossed.

“My apologies miss, I have never seen a costume like that,” He said handing over two orange tickets.

“I made it myself,” She smiled, grabbing her red cap covering her face like a vampire.

Rarity walked forward into the gym stumbling. Richard quickly, grabbing a hold of her before she fell over. Michael continued watching them like a hawk as Rachel bought tickets for the both of them.

“Come on Michael you need to loosen up,” She said grabbing his arm.

“I’ll try,” He said, pushing up on his sunglasses and pulled out plastic neuralizer that had a camera flash built in.

The gym was decorated with plastic spiders and cobwebs along the walls. There was a makeshift graveyard with plastic tombstones and skeletons. Red and black lights with a fog machine for effect near a DJ booth. The DJ was dressed up as a zombie with his headphones on.

“Very impressive,” Rarity said, looking around at the decorations.

“Not bad at all,” Richard said noticing.

Back at Richard’s house…

The mirror in the spare bedroom started to glow. First one purple hoof and then other stepped out from the mirror. Twilight climbed out of the mirror first and then Spike hopped onto the wood floor. The mirror stopped glowing and the room became dark.

“This place sure is dark,” Spike said as he bumped into Twilight.

“Must be night time here as well,” She said as her horn started glowing.

“Do you think we’ll find Rarity in this world?” Spike asked and jumped onto the bed.

“I hope so, let’s look around,” Twilight said and walked out into the hallway.

Spike climbed down and followed Twilight into the hallway which lit up with a purple glow. She walked into the bathroom and reared up to look into the mirror.

“This world must be ruled by giants,” Spike said, looking up at the large toilet.

“I don’t think so, this world seems very similar to the one Sunset is in, but I don’t feel any magic here,” Twilight said and dropped down.

“World without magic, that sounds very boring,” The young dragon said.

Don't break my heart, my achy Breaky Heart…

Rarity was laughing as she and Richard was part of a costume line dance that was going in a circle. She had her front hooves on someone’s back as Richard held her shoulders. They kept on dancing even when the song sped up. Rarity was about to fall over when the song finally finished.

“Oh my goodness, I don’t think, I have ever danced that that before,” She said sounding out of breath.

“Why don’t we sit down,” Richard said, pointing to a table.

She dropped on her hooves and walked to the table. Some of the people dressed up pointed noticing her. Richard sat down and rubbed his legs. Rarity hopped in the next chair over, her rear hooves were almost off the ground but she didn’t care.

“That’s the wildest costume, I have ever seen,” A teenage girl said stopping at the table. She was dressed in a goth outfit.

“Why thank you, young lady,” Rarity grabbed her red cape with an evil smile with pointy teeth and glowing red eyes.

“Cool, can I get a selfie with you?” The goth girl asked.

“Sure, but what is a selfie?” Rarity asked.

“A picture,” She said.

The girl held out her cellphone with her arm and stood next to her as it flashed and made a clicking noise.

Twilight sniffed the air as she and Spike walked into the master bedroom.

“It smells like Rarity has been here,” She said looking around.

“Yuck, I think someone else, has been here also,” Spike said, holding onto a pair of men’s underwear and plugging his nose.

“Put it back Spike,” Twilight told the young dragon.

“Sorry,” He apologized and dropped it.

“Let’s keep looking,” She said and walked out of the room.

After a few minutes, she found stairs leading to the basement. Twilight recognized the switch on the wall from her time with Sunset. She flicked it on with her right front hoof. Lights turned on revealing a large area filled with colorful fabrics and sewing machines.

“Now I am sure Rarity has been living here,” Twilight said looking at all clothing.

“TWILIGHT THERE’S MONSTERS OUTSIDE!” Spike yelled from upstairs.

Twilight ran upstairs and found Spike looking out of a window his tail was twitching. She climbed up next to him and pressed her nose against the glass window. Outside, she could see children dressed up in different costumes holding bags, walking door to door.

"Spike, this looks very similar to Nightmare Night," She said with a sigh of relief.

"How can you be sure, maybe this is a world of monsters," He said looking worried.

"A vampire fruit bat pony?" Asked a young man, who was dressed as a mummy.

"That's right, you better watch your fruits or I will suck them dry," Rarity answered.

"Weird," He said and walked away joining his friends on the other side of the gym.

"Why do they keep saying that, Richard?" Rarity asked him.

"Vampires are undead people that drink blood, they usually bite you on the neck," Richard said explaining.

"That's horrible, maybe I should change my costume," She said starting to climb out of her chair.

A romantic song started playing and couples walked out onto the dance floor holding hands. It was like a masquerade, but with monster costumes. Richard looked at the dance floor and then at Rarity who looked back. No words were needed since they both decided to dance together. He found a spot to stand and Rarity reared up, allowing him to hold her close. It was a bit of a balancing act for her to dance like this, but Richard was helping her. He looked into her large blue eyes that looked back with tenderness. Richard was feeling something that he never thought would happen again.

Rarity wrapped her front hooves around his neck. They danced slowly together for the song. The world around them seemed to fade away as they looked at each other. Rarity's heart started thumping hard again in her ears. Richard's leaned down so her muzzle was on his shoulder. Just as she wanted to say it, he whispered it in her ear.

"I love you Rarity," Richard said in a soft voice,
