Chapter 9
Previous ChapterNext Chapter“Rarity I’m home, did you see what happened next door? ” Richard said in a loud voice putting his jacket away.
Matthew stepped out from the kitchen looking serious with his arms crossed.
“Matthew why are you here, what is going on?” He said surprised and then worried.
“There was a fire next door and your pony decided to play hero,” His brother said looking at him.
“Where is she!?” Richard yelled and ran up to his brother.
“Hold it, Richard, there is something else you should know,” He said looking back at the kitchen.
A tall black man in a tuxedo stepped out from the kitchen. The man had to lower his bald head to avoid the light fixture as he walked up to Richard who looked up nervously.
“Hello Richard Labonte, My name is Michael Knight from Homeland Security,” He said showing his badge.
“Knight Rider?” Richard said from the top of his head and got an elbow in the side from Matthew. “Ouch!” He said, rubbing his shoulder.
“Funny that is what they use to call me at the agency,” Michael said in his deep voice, “Come with me to the kitchen so we can talk,” He said putting his large right hand on Richard’s shoulder, giving him the impression that he did not have a choice.
“Am I in trouble?” Richard asked, sitting down at his table.
“Well, Mr. Labonte that depends on you,” The agent as he sat in the chair on the other side of the table.
“I’ll cooperate, please don’t hurt her,” Richard pleaded.
Michael pulled out a digital recorder from a pocket and set it on the table.
“I already have a statement from your brother now it’s your turn, let’s start from the beginning,” Michael said and pressed the record button.
Richard spent the next hour answering questions about how he met Rarity, where she came from, how she got here, what are her powers, eating habits and more. His throat was starting to feel dry from all the questions he was answering. Then one question came up that made him very uncomfortable.
“What is your relationship with the alien?” Michael asked, looking at him directly in the eyes.
“We are good friends, I care about her,” Richard said, looking at him and then down at his hands.
“Let me rephrase the question, have you slept with her?” The agent asked.
“Well, she likes to share my bed,” He said looking down rubbing his hands together.
“Oh My God, Richard, she is not even human!” His brother yelled out which caused Michael and Richard to look at him.
“Nothing happened, we just sleep!” Richard said standing up.
“Well then that concludes the questions for now,” He said, pressing a button on the recorder.
“Where is Rarity?” Richard asked.
Rarity was surrounded by people dressed in white lab coats, wearing full masks and latex gloves. She was in a large laboratory that had machines of different shapes of sizes. There was a large boxlike machine with a large hole in the middle that was making a humming noise. The strange people dressed in white were trying to place her onto the platform that went into the machine.
“KEEP AWAY FROM ME!” She said jumping around bucking wildly.
They stepped back to avoid being hit. Rarity starting walking fast around the large room, knocking over test tubes and flasks that shattered against the smooth marble floor. She was trying to find a way out of this nightmare, but people keep getting in her away.
“Vell vhate are you vating for imbeciles grab her!,” Professor Van Oostrom yelled into the intercom looking through the glass from the next room.
One of the men grabbed a large blanket that was covering a machine and the others stood in front of her trying to get her to walk the other way.
“Stay back, I'm warning you!” Rarity horn started glowing blue. Different pieces of equipment started shorting out as they were pulled from the walls.
“Stop that you, vhat is very expensive equipment!” Professor yelled out.
One of the machines stopped glowing and fell to the floor smashing into pieces.
“Oops,” Rarity said, looked at the Professor who started jumping madly.
“Tranquilizer her!” He yelled out, pointing at her.
She saw one of the men pull out a large needle and used her magic to grab it from his hand. The needle then shot across the room like a bullet and hit the glass hard which caused the professor to jump back. The point of the needle had penetrated the glass stopping a few inches from the professor’s nose.
“You dare to attack me, I’ll show you vate I can do.” He said and reached for a phone.
“That’s enough professor!” A man said, walking into the room with three large bodyguards.
“Mr. President,” He said quickly saluting with his right hand.
“This is not how we treat our guests,” The president said and placed his hand on a scanner that unlocked the door to the lab.
“Sir, don’t go in there, ve don’t know if the alien is dangerous and could be caring some virus,” Professor said standing in front of the door.
“You're dismissed professor,” He said, pointing to the exit.
The professor lowered his head and walked out of the room. Rarity's horn glowed as she growled at the men in lab coats and heard a click as the door hissed in the lab opening inward. A dark skinned man with dark curly hair with streaks of gray. The wrinkles on his face and the dark circles under his eyes.
“Everyone out now,” He said in a commanding tone.
The men quickly filed out of the lab one at a time and then the door closed shut behind them. The man who was dressed in a tuxedo slowly walked to her. Rarity looked up and got the impression that he was a man who shouldered a great responsibility.
“I on behalf of the United States of America and Earth, I want to apologize for the way you have been treated,” The president said lowering himself so he was eye level with her.
"I certainly hope so, this is not the right way to treat a pony,” She said sitting down on the floor.
“Why don't we start over, is there something, I can do to help you,” He said with a gentle smile.
The next day that evening...
Richard was pacing back and forth in his living room. He stopped often to look through the curtains and spotted a more TV Station trucks setting up near the neighbor's house. Richard watched the news on TV as they kept replaying the video of the house glowing blue and then Rarity walking out with Mr. Taylor and Michael who quickly slipped on his large sunglasses. There were professors from different parts of the world commenting on the video. Some claimed it was an elaborate hoax, while others have books in their hand about unicorns. The only reason reporters were not knocking down his door was the result of false information and rumors that were spread out by the government agents.
"Please Mr. Labonte you are only going to attract attention to yourself if you keep peeking out the window," Michael said, watching him.
"How are they going to get her back home without anyone noticing?" Richard said sitting down on his couch.
"Just wait for it," Michael said looking at his watch.
"Wait for what?" Richard asked.
Suddenly there was some commotion as the TV reports and camera crews started quickly packed up their gear and left one at a time. Within 15 minutes the street was clear. The only remaining reminder of yesterday's events was the caution tape wrapped around the neighbor's house.
By eleven o'clock in the evening, Richard was starting to doze off when he heard a car pull up. With a yawn, he peeked outside and noticed that it was a large limousine with two police bikes in front with their lights off. Someone got out of the car and opened the rear door. A white pony hopped out and waved to someone in the car with her front hoof The door closed and she turned around and walked quickly to the house. Richard ran to the door and opened just before she had a chance to knock.
"Rarity!" Richard cried out feeling a wave of emotions which was not normal for him.
"Richard, Richard, Richard!" Rarity said, bouncing on the spot and quickly went inside the house.
As soon as the door closed Rarity reared up and wrapped her front hooves around him in a deep hug.
"I'm so sorry! This is all my fault, I broke the rules," She cried out.
Richard could feel her tears running down her face.
"I know, but, I don't care about that right now," He said leading her to the couch.
Rarity jumped up, sat down and quickly slid closer. Richard wanted to be mad, he should be mad, but that would not change a thing now. He reached around and hugged her, rubbing his fingers in her purple mane. She had the smell of light perfume and shampoo. He then noticed that it was now much shorter than he remembered.
"Rarity, what happened to your hair?" He asked, caressing the side of her face.
"It's my new look, do you like it?" She said, fluttering her eyes and brushed her now short mane back with her left hoof.
"Like a cute, little punk rocker," Richard said with a smile.
"What's that supposed to mean?" She asked puffing her cheeks, trying to look mad.
"Ahem," Michael said, clearing his throat watching with amusement.
"Sorry about that," Richard said, regaining his composure. "Rarity this is Michael Knight, he is going to be your personal bodyguard from now on," He said looking at him.
"Oh my this is a surprise," She said looking up at the tall man.
"For me also Miss Rarity, I have been reassigned to protect you and Richard for as long as required," Michael said removing his sun-glasses.
"I hope my presence here will not be a burden to you, Michael," Rarity said talking more formally now.
"Thank you for your concern, in the meantime, I will be on patrol outside until I get the all-clear for the night, here is my card if you need assistance," He said and gave the card to Richard.
Michael opened the front door and left them alone. Richard and Rarity sat quietly for a few minutes. Richard rubbed his fingers in her fur as she leaned against him.
"Rarity who was inside that limousine?" Richard asked now thinking back.
"Oh, that was the President of your country, he is such a nice man," She said with a yawn,
"The President!" Richard said, jumping out of the couch in surprise.
