Richard and Rarity
Chapter 7
Previous ChapterNext ChapterNot far from Fluttershy's house in Equestria.
Spike was sitting at a picnic table holding fish shaped playing cards in his claws. On the other end of the table was Discord also holding fish shaped playing cards.
“Do you have a 5?” Spike said, peering over his cards.
“Go fish,” Discord said with amusement.
Spike put his cards down and grabbed a fishing reel. He then cast his line out into a nearby pond and started to reel is back slowly.
“I don’t think this is the way you play the game Discord,” Spike said with a grumble.
“Perhaps not, but isn’t this more fun?” Discord asked with a goofy grin as Spike’s rod twitched.
“Argh!” Spike yelled as he yanked back on the fishing rod that was bending down. He was then pulled out of his seat and dragged into the water with a splash.
“It better be a Kingfish this time!” Discord said yelling at the pond.
“Discord!” Twilight called out as she walked into Fluttershy's backyard.
“It wasn’t me,” The Draconequus said, hiding under the picnic table.
Twilight rolled her eyes and walked to the table and found a baby version of Discord in a cradle with a pacifier. Her horn glowed as she lifted the table up and moved it away.
“Discord, please I need your help?” She asked him,
Spike gasped for air as he surfaced from the pond, holding a small fish that was wearing a crown in his claws.
“Oh goody you found one,” Discord said and returned to his normal size with the pacifier still in his mouth.
“Hi Twilight, want to play a game of fish?” Spike said, shaking the water out of his scales.
"Not right now Spike, sorry," Twilight said and then looked back at Discord.
"How can I help you, princess?" Discord said, spitting out the pacifier.
"I'll get right to the point, can you bring Rarity back?" She asked him.
Discord seemed unsurprised by this request and looked at Spike, who's faced dropped and then back to her.
Rarity was spending more nights in Richard’s bed than her own. At first, Richard would ask her to sleep in her bed, but after a few nights he stopped. Rarity remembered the times that her sister sneaked into bed, especially during a thunderstorm. Maybe she was trying to make up for that loss by sleeping with Richard or maybe it was something else. There were no signs of a portal from the mirror, but she did feel the magic of the gem increasing when the moon was visible in the night sky.
It was the middle of the week and Richard was rushing out the front door. He quickly slipped on his jacket and shoes, then opened the front door.
“Alright, I am off to work, you have my number if something happens!” He said in a loud voice.
“I doubt anything will Richard, but I will try to keep myself entertained while you are gone,” She said from the kitchen and waved her right front hoof.
Rarity blew a kiss when the door closed and then realized what she did with a gasp covering her mouth. Did he see me? She thought, felt her cheeks turn red. Rarity walked back to the kitchen and noticed that Richard forgot his lunch box.
Richard started backing up when suddenly there was a blue flash of light in the passenger seat. He slammed on the brakes surprised and noticed that his lunch box appeared in the seat. Richard looked back and saw Rarity outline in the curtain for a second before she left.
“Thanks, Hun,” He said. Did I just call her hun? Richard though, and cleared his throat.
He relaxed and released the brake pedal and continued on his way to work. Richard's SUV drove past a large black van was parked on the side of the road not far from the house.
Within the back black van was rows of monitors, computers, and variety of surveillance equipment. There was a caucasian man dressed in a black tux wearing dark sunglasses he was watching one of the monitors.
"The owner of the house has left and the alien is still inside," He said and pressed a button on the keyboard.
One screen switch on showing a bald man wearing glasses and a white lab coat. His face was wrinkled with age and his lips looked almost purple in color. The glasses on his head made his dark brown eyes look much larger than normal.
"Have you finished with the wire taps and cameras?" The old man said with a German accent.
"Agent 5 is currently installing them as we speak Professor," The soldier said and poured himself a hot cup of coffee.
"This better be a hoax," The professor said and disconnected the line.
“No,” Discord answered.
“Why not?” Twilight said angrily, “You should just be able to snap your claws and bring her back.” She said looking at him.
Spike looked at Discord as he shook his head and floated upward into the air.
“Spike asked me the same question not long ago and I’m going to give you the same answer. Your friend has gone to a place where my powers can’t reach,” He answered looking down at them.
“Then it’s hopeless,” Twilight said, turning around and started to walk away slowly.
"Hopeless you say? That's not the Twilight Sparkle I know. Did you give up when the plunderseed vines invaded Ponyville?" Discord said, taking on the persona of a coach dressed in a white t-shirt with a whistle around his neck.
"No, but that was your fault." She said looking at him.
"Besides the point, what about King Sombra or Lord Tirek. What would have happened if you gave up then?" He said landing on the ground.
"Alright, I get it, but there has got to be a way," Twilight said, looking at Spike, who was having a hard time looking at her with his arms crossed.
"Behold the mighty and powerful Cellphone!" Discord said with a booming voice and a cellphone appeared in his one clawed paw.
"Isn't that Sunset's?" Twilight said, pointing at the name tag on the back of it.
"Really?" Discord turned the cellphone around and peeled the label away whistling.
Rarity reached up with her front left hoof and switch on the basement light. With Richard's help, she recreated her clothing workshop from Equestria. There were some obvious differences with the electric lighting, computer, TV, Radio but it did feel more familiar to her.
She started a tune and her horn glowed. Pieces of clothing started floating the air and a needle and thread sewed them together.
Stitch by stitch, stitching it together
Mmm...mmm.mmm
She sang a few lines and then continued to hum. Clothing then floated to an electric sewing machine. Rarity sat down and pushed on the pedal with her rear hoof and used her magic to hold the fabric steady as the machine did its work.
A small pin hole camera snaked in through a hole in the wall and focused on Rarity.
"Agent 1, is the Alien, building a spacecraft or some doomsday device?" Professor van Oostrom asked from one of the video monitors.
"No, sir, it looks like it is making a dress," He said sounding bored.
"According to the website, the dress sells for 15 dollars and it comes in a variety of colors and sizes. Shipping and handling are extra." Agent 5 said, looking at the computer monitor.
"What kind of Alien is this?" The Professor asked sounding annoyed.
"A unicorn with great fashion sense?" Agent 1 said, pointing as Rarity climbed out of her chair and walked on her hoofs to the next piece of clothing.
Agent 5 was a tall well built African American wearing a tux also with a bald head.
"Sir are we going to move in to capture?" Agent 5 asked.
"Not yet, there must be something else, something we are missing..." The Professor said as his picture disappeared.
"Looks like it is going to be another long day Michael," Agent 1 yawned leaning back in his chair.
Later that afternoon, Rarity was putting the last pieces on a couple of dresses before packing. The cat upstairs was sniffing the air and noticed something.
"Meow," The cat called out from upstairs.
"Ginger, I'm down here," Rarity said looking upstairs.
"Meow!" Again the cat called sounding like something was bothering it.
"I'm sorry, I don't speak cat," She said as she finished folding the clothing with her magic.
"MEOW!" Cat yelled out loudly, looking downstairs with its big eyes.
"Alright, I'm coming," Rarity rolled her eyes and climbed up the stairs.
Her nose immediately picked up the smell of something burning. She quickly ran into the kitchen, but found nothing, the stove and oven were switched off. Sniffing more she realized it was coming from outside, looking out the window, she spotted black smoke coming from the neighbor's house. Mr. Taylor's house was on fire.
"Oh dear, oh dear, what do I do? Where are the numbers?" Rarity asked herself in a panicked voice.
She ran around the house and found the phone on the wall with a list of emergency numbers. Rarity was still learning how to read English but she figured out the numbers. Richard drew pictures of each set of numbers to help her recognize which one to call. The was a word with a drawing of a flame on top of it. Taking a deep breath, she tried to calm herself and her horn started glowing blue. The receiver unhooked from the phone and floated in the air and she grabbed a pencil with her mouth, dialed 9-1-1. There was an electric beep after beep and then a click as the operator answer.
"This 911 my name is Janice how can I help you?" The operator said with a clear voice.
"Yes, hello there, my name is Rarity, I have an emergency to report." She said as the receiver floated next to her left ear.
"What is the emergency, madam?" The operator asked her.
"My neighbor's house is on fire, please hurry," Rarity said looking out the window.
"Ok miss, I have your address listed as 46 Dunkirk Street is that correct?" She asked.
"Yes, but it is the neighbor's house that's on fire," The pony said pacing back and forth.
"I have instructed the local fire department, EMS to go your location, do you know if anyone is inside the house?" The operator asked.
"Mr. Taylor lives there, I need to make sure he is safe," Rarity said.
"Please miss, stay where you are, the emergency team will be there momentarily," The operator pleaded with her.
"Sorry, I may not be in Equestria, but I am still an element of harmony," She said and dropped the phone leaving a confused operator on the other end.
In the black van Agent 1, just finished listening to the phone call and looked at one of the monitors. The front door opened and Rarity quickly ran outside towards the neighbor's home.
"Sir the Ailen has just left the house!" He yelled out, slamming his finger into the keyboard.
"DON'T JUST SIT THERE WE NEED TO CAPTURE BEFORE PUBLIC SEES IT!" Professor yelled out.
Discord listened to the busy signal and then tried dialing again, only to get the same beep-beep-beep.
"Well, anything Discord?" Twilight asked, looking at him.
"I was sure I was dialing the right number, Hmmm," He said with a shrug and shook the cell phone.
"Didn't you just say your magic couldn't reach Rarity?" Spike asked pointing at him.
"Interdimensional teleportation not possible, but making a phone call easy," He said and smacked the side of the cell phone.
"Let go home Spike, we can try some more combinations tonight," Twilight said and started to walk back to her castle.
Spike tossed the fish back into the pond and then followed her.
Along the road, people were standing on the sidewalk across the street keeping their distance. They were watching the black smoke rising from the roof of the house.
"Do you think anyone is inside?" One person asked adjusting his glasses.
"The car is still in the driveway," Another one said.
"Mommy, it's a pony!" A small girl yelled out holding her's mother's hand and pointing at the white unicorn running toward the front of the house.
"Don't be silly dear, there's no..." She stopped talking we so also saw Rarity.
"Unicorn!" A man said in a loud voice.
"STOP!" Yelled a two men dressed in tuxedos as they ran towards Rarity.
Agent One had a tranquilizer and the other a compact net launcher.
Rarity saw them coming but she had no time to respond. Her horn glowed bright blue she pulled the front door off its hinges and tossed it at the men chasing after her. Smoke started pouring out from the entrance. The men jumped out of the way before the large wooden door landed on them. Dark orange and yellow flames started appearing on rooftop burning it away. The sound of Fire Trucks could be heard in the distance. Rarity ran into the house not looking back.
"Mr. Taylor! Where are you?" She yelled out and started to cough, breathing the toxic smoke.
