Richard and Rarity
Chapter 6
Previous ChapterNext ChapterRichard drove to the spot marked on his GPS. Rarity sat in the front seat looking around at the vast landscape. The local farms have already cut down the crop for the winter and the large fields now looked barren.
“You have arrived at your destination,” Said the GPS as it also beeped.
He pulled to the side of the gravel road to allow what little traffic there is to pass. With a sigh, Richard put the SUV in park, turned off the engine and removed the key. Rarity could tell something was bothering him.
“Here we are, I think this is the spot,” He said and opened his door.
Rarity used her magic to unbuckle and open her door. She then jumped out and landed on the gravel with her hooves. Richard walked up next to her, he was dressed in, brown shirt, blue jeans, with a green jacket and boots. Rarity was wearing her homemade red scarf. They both could feel the cold wind out here, there was no nearby buildings or trees to slow the air down.
“Richard, do you remember which direction I was running before the accident?” She asked looking up at him.
He walked out into the middle of the road and then turned to the direction he would be driving if heading back into town.
“I think it was from left to right, so you were heading this direction,” He said pointing to the right.
“Then we should go left,” Rarity said and started walking onto the field.
“That's private property Rarity, we can get in trouble for trespassing,” Richard said following her to the field.
“I just need a few minutes to look around,” She said walking.
“Fine,” He said with a grumble.
The ground was firming up from the cold weather, but there were still soft spots in the soil. He had to stop a few times to tug on his boots. Rarity was having fewer problems since her weight was spread across her four hooves.
“Do you feel that?” Rarity asked, looking back at Richard.
“Sorry, I don’t feel anything besides the cold,” He answered with a shrug.
“Just a moment,” She said and closed her eyes.
Rarity’s horn started glowing blue and she walked in a circle with her eyes closed.
“I sense magic, it might be from Equestria,” She said, sounding more excited and continued to walk, turning left.
“So you horn also works like an antenna to, hmm... is there any chance you can tune into a good radio station?” Richard said with a smile.
“Ha-ha, funny, but yes, it works something like that,” Rarity said opening her eyes.
She stopped walking and Richard walked into her rear and almost fell on top of her.
“Sorry, didn’t see you stop in time,” He said and quickly brushed her fur back into place.
“Careful, I almost bucked you,” She said as she noticed something, her front hoof thumped against something in the ground.
Rarity felt like she was standing on something hard. She looked down and then tried to dig with her front hooves without much luck.
“What did you find?” Richard asked, moving in front of her.
“Richard dear can you use your wonderful hands and help me dig here,” Rarity said stepping back.
“Oh, so you like my hands do ya,” He said with a wink.
Rarity blushed at his remark and watched him kneel down. He started scooping up dirt with his hands digging and felt something buried in the ground. Richard grabbed it and started wiggling it until it came loose out of the ground. He fell back onto his rear holding the object in his hands.
“I got it, whatever it is,” He said and started to clean it.
Removing the dirt revealed a large light purple gem encased in a broken piece of purple wood. Rarity looked at it for a moment, trying to remember where it came front.
“This looks like it is from the crystal mirror!” She exclaimed with a smile.
Richard stood up when he heard the sound of a motor and then spotted the tractor heading in their direction.
“We need to go now!” Richard said and started walking fast holding the gem in his right arm.
Rarity quickly followed him back to the SUV and noticed a large black van that was parked far away down the road. They quickly reached the SUV and Richard helped Rarity in and put the gem onto the floor. He jumped into his seat and started the engine and drove off in a hurry.
“Richard, I think someone was watching us,” Rarity said looking back.
“Wonderful,” He said sarcastically.
Richard glanced in the rearview mirror, but didn’t see anyone following and breathed a sigh of relief. But unknown to them there was a small black box with a blinking red light attached to the bottom of his SUV.
Later that day back at home. Richard was in his garage and closed the large door, he then sat down on a stool and placed the purple gem onto his workbench. Rarity walked up to him and gently brushed her side against him without realizing.
“So any ideas?” Richard asked her since he knew nothing about Equestrian magic.
“If Twilight was, here I am sure she would have some,” She answered, looking at the gem and then to Richard. “I may know some magic, but compared to her I am just an amateur,” Rarity said as her ears dropped.
“Well, I am completely clueless so tell me more about this crystal mirror,” Richard said and gently stroked her back with his fingers.
Rarity told him everything she knew about the mirror, how it use to be powered by the moon every 30 cycles. Since then Twilight found another power source and was able to switch it on when she wanted to use it. He then heard about the story of Sunset Shimmer and that a few others were transported to another world.
“Sounds like a Stargate,” Richard said, remembering a TV show he used to watch.
“A star what?” Rarity asked him.
“It’s a fictional TV show about a big round circle with different symbols. Depending on the combination of symbols, it opened a portal to different worlds,” He finished explaining.
“That does sound similar, but I am not sure how that can help us,” She said.
“Well in the show, there were parts missing from the gate so they had to experiment until they got it working,” Richard said and grabbed the gem. “So let's try attaching this gem to a large mirror and then wait for the moon,” He said looking at it.
“I don’t think it will be that simple Richard,” Rarity said.
"Won't know unless we try," He said and stood up.
Richard went into the basement and grabbed a large oval mirror that was also left by his ex. He carefully carried it upstairs, through the house and then into the garage. He placed the gem on the top of the wood frame and made an outline with a pencil. Using a rotary tool he slowly notched out a slot for the gem. Rarity watched him work with his hands. Humans don't need magic like ponies, can build with their need. She thought to herself.
"I think that will do it," He said and pushed the gem into the frame and then used some small screws to hold it in place.
"You worked so hard dear, let me help you bring it inside," She said as her horn glowed blue and the mirror floated in the air weightless.
"How much weight can you lift with your magic?" Richard asked sounding curious.
"As long as it doesn't weigh more than me," Rarity answered.
"Let's put this mirror in your room, near the window," He suggested and opened the door for her.
The top of the mirror went into the hallway head first. It then floated all the way into the bedroom and rotated upright before landing with a gentle thump on the floor near the window. Rarity looked in the mirror looking at her reflection and saw Richard standing by the door.
"Richard, can you come here please?" She asked him.
"Ok," He said and walked up next to her.
"Now down here," Rarity said, wiggling her front hoof motioning him closer.
Richard was not sure what she wanted, but he kneeled down so he was the same height as her.
"Much better, this would make a lovely picture of us," She said, leaning against him looking at there reflecting in the mirror.
"I can do that right now," Richard said and took out his phone. "Now on the count of 3 say cheese," He swiped on the camera mode and flipped the camera to the front and tapped the screen that started a countdown.
"CHEESE!" They both said as the phone made a click taking the photo.
"Again!" Rarity said with a giggle and made a funny face with her tongue out.
"Fine, you silly pony," Richard made a goofy face and they took another photo.
"Well, someone has to pick up the slack without Pinkie around," She said, feeling happier than she has been in a long time.
Richard feeling goofy as well reached over and tickled her with his fingers. Rarity squealed out feeling tickles for the first time with his fingers.
"Looks like someone is ticklish," He said, stating the obvious as they both rolled on the floor.
"I was wrong your hands are evil!" She said and jumped on top of him and held his arms down with her hooves.
Richard smirked, looking up at Rarity as she tried to look serious, but softened to a grin. She lowered herself spread out her legs to lay her body on top of him.
"Rarity?" He asked, feeling her onto of him.
"Richard, will you miss me when I am gone?" She asked, looking at him with her big blue eyes.
"Of, course I will," Richard caressed the side of her face, tracing his fingers around the side of her muzzle and then around her pointy ears.
"Me to..." Rarity laid her head against his chest.
