-Part Of The Hive-
~Chapter One~

It had been a fair few years since the last attack on Canterlot, a new princess had been brought to power, and the Crystal Kingdom had risen from the murky depths of despair brought on by the terrifying King Sombra.

Ponyville was peaceful, for a while, until reports of ponies going missing during the night had been brought to attention. There was an element of tension among the residents, as all the kidnappings had been random, with no particular cause or purpose.

In their panicked state, all manners of folk lore and fairy tales had been created, speaking of the monsters who lurked during the night, ready to snatch anyone who was unlucky enough to be outside during the dark hours of midnight.

At first we assumed it was Nightmare Moon punishing those who dared to ignore her 12 hours of darkness, even after her reformation. One tale led to another, and soon pretty much everyone was a suspect. And for good reason too.

-1:00am Monday-

It was the usual daily routine, I’d get up, wash myself down and make myself somewhat presentable for the day ahead. My crimson and dark gray mane became somewhat of a signature style. Although I had never bothered with brushing it, I never saw the point if it’d just return to the same shaggy state as I started the day with.

There was a rainbow haired mare who shared the same look, but she never stuck around for a friendly conversation, always training or practicing one of her new stunts. If it was a sudden bump in the night you can bet it was her.

Anyway, I made my way downstairs to greet my mother, a yellow and pink mare by the name of Lux, who took way more pride in her appearance, even during the early hours of the morning. She’d make me the same old breakfast (hay sandwich with a side of apple juice, my favorite), she always knew exactly how I wanted it. I guess that’s how mothers work I guess.

Today was a special day, it was my 21st birthday. The royal sisters are said to have lived for at least 1000 years, but I never looked to much into history, I was always looking to the future, finding new ways to immerse myself in engineering and the like.

The tradition in the herd was to drink apple cider with a meal with the family on days like these, but I had something else planned, something my mother would most definitely not approve of.

I didn’t have a mare-friend, so I had to entertain myself in other ways, the town had a hall that come night time, would become the center of attention for party goers and anypony else that was just looking for a fun time.

I cast a manipulation spell on the door handle, being careful not to tear it off, and happily trotted outside, not forgetting the bag of bits I had earned doing odd jobs for the ponies around the village, I had a few more tasks set out before the day was over, so that bag of bits was yet to grow.

Author's Note

(This fic is written from the perspective of Tenebra, it is to serve as the introduction for my new character, as I do enjoy writing long pieces of text without interruption, so enjoy. ^^)
