"Hurry up Apple Bloom! We are going to be late at the rate y'all is moving." Applejack encouraged her sister.

"Come on Applejack, you know it's hard enough getting around in district 10, the livestock district without having to worry about being late for anything. Let alone havin' to worry about being late to the reaping." Apple Bloom complained.

" Let's go, Now! You know how the peace keepers will react to us being late." Applejack threatened.

"Fine." Apple Bloom grumbled.

When the pair reached the place where the tributes would have their name called, they were nearly late. "and this year the mare will be...

Apple Bloom! The Colt will be...  Big Macintosh!" The old voice of the mayor called out.

"You may all leave-" the mayor tried to finish but Applejack called out, "Wait! I will take Apple Blooms place." She choked on the words but she said them. "Ok, Applejack is the mare. Now leave!" The Mayor finally finished.

"Why did you do that?" Granny Smith asked Applejack when they got home.

"Yeah!" Apple Bloom agreed with Granny Smith.

"I am sorry sugar cube but I ain't letting them take you away from granny. She needs you. More than me." Applejack finished firmly.

"No! You should have left me Applejack! You don't deserve this!" Apple Bloom said with tears in her eyes.

" I am not letting them hurt you Apple Bloom. I am doing this to save your life. I am 17 now. You are only 12, not old enough to go die in those games. So I am the one who will die with Big Mac." Applejack finished.

"Still, you should not have done that, AJ."

"This conversation is over." Applejack finished, her voice cracking. They ate the rest of their dinner in silence.

At the end of dinner, Applejack went straight to her room. To think about what happened, and what Apple Bloom and Granny had said.
