(chapter 49) nightmare's and a father's return

Nightshade had felt bad after returning home, she knew she couldn't really do anything else to stop 32, and yet, she felt like she made a mistake. And on her way back to her bedroom, she pondered what would happen to the harmony they created, before crawling into bed, and falling asleep. Going to sleep while in a bad mood had always gave her nightmare's, but tonight, it was different. She felt the nightmare coming, but it fizzled away to the edges of her mind, and instead saw herself in the frozen north. It felt familiar, but it couldn't be, her father was dead, right? A voice cut through her thoughts, and made her question his death even more.

“my dear daughter, you know so little of my absence, you trusted the lies of your friend,”

The voice seemed to come from everywhere all at once, and she stumbled back as she looked around.

“where are you? If you are truly alive than show me,”

She stood firm and looked along the snowy landscape, and spotted a red tipped thing among the pale snow.

“and why haven't you shown yourself before? I missed you, Angel miss you, even mom cried after hearing about your passing,”

She approached the red tipped spire, directing her attention to it entirely as the voice answered.

“it's hard to recover from being blown up, especially when that wretched empire is still radiating love and light, like some kind of beacon. I need you to do something for me,”

A hollow and almost ghostly version of him materialized in front of her, and she stopped and looked up at it expectantly.

“I need you to come here and retrieve my horn, I don't care where you bring me or if you show your mother, I just can't reassemble myself here. Do you think you can do that for me?”

She looked up into his transparent face, and lifted a hoof to it slowly, and frowned as her hoof fazed through it.

“I...I don't know if I can do it, I have a duty and a family now, I can't just leave them without saying at least where I'm going,”

She pulled her hoof away and looked down at snow beneath her hooves,

“I do miss you, and wish you could see how much we changed Equestria, but I don't think everyone would approve, knowing that you're still alive,”

One of his hooves came up under her chin, and became more solid as he lifted her gaze to his face again.

“I'd love to see it, but I can't from where I am currently, I promise to see how things are going for you and your sister and not to try to take over the empire again, if you just do this one thing for me.”

Nightshade looked up into his eyes, and noticed how his body was slowly solidifying and lunged at him in a hug. She held on for as long as she could until the dream faded out of her mind, and he was gone again. Short after the dream changed back she woke up, and got up to get ready and tell Angel what she just saw.
