(chapter 50) explanation

“Nightshade, this is crazy, how could he really be alive and able to enter your dream? And why did he ask you to get him and not me?”

Angel scolded her sister, as Nightshade patiently waited for her to stop.

“well, for the record, I don't complain about as many things as you, even the physically tasking stuff. Not to mention, I'm better at hiding magical secrets than you are,”

Angel gasped, looking positively offend as she stepped back.

“I can keep a secret just as well as you, and I do not complain about everything,”

She pouted, making Nightshade roll her eyes as she wrapped her scarf around her neck properly.

“well, either way I'm going to head out, just tell everyone I went to the crystal empire to get more magic books and gems. And if I don't come back soon come after me,”

Angel nodded, still pouting but understanding why her sister felt the need to go. And in a flash of magic, Nightshade teleported herself to the outskirts of the empire, before heading north.

It was a long way until she could feel her father's magic, and she used it as a way to find his horn faster. While trudging around in the snow, she saw it, and immediately galloped towards it. And after pulling out a handkerchief and wrapping it in it, she placed the wrapped horn in a wooden box she had brought with her. And after quickly packing into her saddlebags, she teleported back to her room, and shook the snow off her cloak and mane.

“for a smart stallion you sure have a funny way of asking for help dad,”

She said, as she sat down and opened the box,

“you were extremely careful with getting me here, no train or anything where ponies could see you,”

He replied, although his voice sounded as though it was muffled.

“I couldn't risk getting caught, and I would just waste half the day getting there and back, not to mention I can't go back to who is was before all this.”

She set the box down in front of her and sighed,

“you're going to love my family; I've got a husband and we had a colt together, and sapphire has grown so much,”

“it will be good to spend time with my little girls again, and if you keep me hidden you'll be able to show me all these things without having me behind bars,”

Nightshade's ears drooped slightly, and she looked away from the box.

“I almost forgot about that, I can't imagine what she'd say if she knew you were okay, even if she was happy,”

A dark tendril of magic turned her gaze back to the box, as it slowly lifted up to caress her cheek.

“I lost you once, I won't lose you a second time, neither of you are going to lose me,”

She smiled a small smile, and felt hopeful, praying that she could keep him a secret for as long as he needed.
