(chapter 56) an unhappy birthday

A day after the talk in the garden, there were plans to throw a party in the ballroom. While Nightshade and Angel still felt uneasy about the occasion, after having a horrible experience in the garden, and they weren't taking any chances. So for the entire night, they were going to keep Sapphire and Mantis close, especially when birthday began to come to a close. The entire ballroom was decorated with the colours they liked; purple, pink and  blue streamers and balloons were practically everywhere. The moment they walked in they were speechless, they were way too happy to even know what to do. But that's when the music began to play, and they both decided to walk into the centre of the room and started dancing. It wasn't too long until they moved to next part of the party: cutting their cake and sharing it out with their family and friends. Luna had made sure to get the chef to make half the cake vanilla and the other half black Forest, so they would both get their favourite types of cake to eat, especially if Celestia was going to have cake as well. The party went on for three hours, and after Angel and Nightshade's friends left Luna brought them to the Canterlot gardens to watch the lilies bloom. However, Sapphire and Mantis were put to bed due to the late hours. So the princess of the night and her daughters sat in front of flowers, and one by one, they bloomed with a burst of beautiful petals. At the sight of it Luna pulled her daughters closer and began to sing their lullaby, and they joined in, crying tears of joy as they did. It had been a wonderful night, and Nightshade and Angel were heading to bed when they noticed some guards acting weird. They both ran to Mantis’s room to check on him, but by the time they got there he was already gone. Nightshade instantly bolted in the direction of her father's room, and Angel didn't bother to stop her as she followed her. It had been a good night, yes, but they had forgotten how big of a distraction it could be as well.
