Nightshade and Angel bolted down the hall, both their bodies were pumping adrenaline with every step and they knew that they couldn't stop. But as they got closer guards had gotten in their way, and even threatened to kill them if they didn't stop running to their father's room. But naturally, they fought them out of the way, knowing that it must have been Sombra’s doing. When they finally got to his room, it had seemed like it was already too late; as they stood in the doorway Sombra held Mantis in his magic, and Sapphire was standing perfectly still as her eyes glowed green.

“put my son down right this instant, you had no precision to see him then and you definitely don't have any now,”

Nightshade said, she hadn't yelled but her throat hurt, she felt as though she was going to have to make a hard decision.

“I'm afraid I can't, your gift is nearly done after all, you wouldn't want to ruin the surprise would you?”

Sombra said, his joking tone made Nightshade glare at him even harder, and Angel jumped to change their father's focus.

“what kind of gift is this exactly? Because it doesn't seem like a very nice one at all. And what have you done to Sapphire?”

Sombra rolled his eyes before shaking his head, as if he was disappointed with what she had said.

“oh Angel, you would know if you studied my spells your your sister did, but I suppose now would be a good time to show you your……gift,”

He turned around, and what they saw both terrified and angered them more. Mantis’s body seemed to have crystals protruding from his body in such a way, that they looked like veins.

“you see, I thought that maybe you should start over, you can find a better mate and have better foals. It really is for the best that this…deformity doesn't stay alive,”

Nightshade squeezed her eyes shut and tucked her wings in close to her stomach, she felt sick but she knew what she had to do.

“Angel, promise me one thing,”

She whispered to her sister as she forced her eyes to stay shut,

“I will do anything you ask of me, just as long as you're safe,”

Nightshade opened her eyes and looked up at her sister, her pupils were flexing violently now but she didn't seem to waver as she responded.

“I need you to take Sapphire and Mantis to the medical ward when they are both free, but you mustn't come back without the princesses. I love you, and I'm ready to risk everything to protect my family,”

Angel just stared at her sister, she wanted so bad to change her mind but she had made this kind of decision before, she knew the risks but so did she.

“do you understand?”

Angel nodded, as she felt tears start to fill her eyes, and she hugged Nightshade tightly before readying herself.

“put my son down before I have to make you,”

Nightshade said as she turned back to Sombra, but he only scoffed and the crystals began to spread again, but this time Mantis began to wail in pain. The sound set her off, and she shot a beam of magic at him, forcing him back a few feet as he stayed on his hooves.

He had let go of Mantis though, and Angel quickly grabbed him and Sapphire in her magic before teleporting away. Sombra struggled as he regained his footing,

“see, your mate has made you weak, if you had only listened to me you wouldn't be like this,”

He changed his body into a black mist and lunged at her, swallowing her up in darkness. She felt like she was drowning at first, but after a little while, a scene of equestria that she had only seen in her nightmares appeared in front of her.

“don't you see, this could be your Kingdom, your home, your empire. We can reclaim Equestria as our own and do as we please to it, it was our dream so long ago, surely you haven't forgotten.”

Just as he said that, a figure of him in all his regalia walked up to her, and suddenly she was in her own set of matching regalia. The figure out him held a hoof out to her, smirking evilly.

She moved away from him and he began to frown,

“can't we please give our plan a chance?”

Nightshade curled herself up and let the rage fill her form, drastically changing her wings and mane to a the more terrifying look she had avoided for years.

“this is my home, this is my life, and you do not fit in it at all!!”

She screamed, and formed a magic bubble around herself before making it expand until she was free if her father's grasp.

She hovered in front of him as she let it disperse, and stared down at him as he formed his body again, with his regalia this time.

“leave Equestria or be forced out, make your choice,”

He stood there for a few minutes, before smirking evilly, and Nightshade suddenly knew his choice.

“fine then, make it harder for me, you are no longer cared for in my life,”

She charged up her horn and prepared herself for the purest charge of her magic, while he just stood there, waiting for her to expel her magic completely.

But her blast of magic wasn't the only one that had hit him when she finally shot at him, Celestia and Luna had made it in time with Angel to completely destroy his form. And as he screamed from the pain of being destroyed, his horn fell to the ground.

Nightshade landed near it and glared at it, she felt like an idiot for bringing him and his evil magic to the castle, but she vowed to never make the same mistake twice.
