Chapter 2: The Tale of Midnight Sparkle

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Things have went smoothly for the Guardians of Equestria and the Order of the Stone.

Applejack and Olivia have got themselves some fresh apples at the market, though it was all Applejack's idea to get two bags of a dozen apples, and after they went back to the temple, Olivia taught Applejack engineering just like she promised, and Applejack surprisingly enjoyed it.

Fluttershy obviously had a good time at the petting zoo. She was delighted about all of the animals she was able to touch, although some people at the petting zoo had no idea how she can understand them. Not even Jesse had a clue.

For Axel and Pinkie, they had the time of their lives at the carnival. Pinkie managed to win almost every game in the carnival. She even made a bet with Axel that whoever wins the Test-Your-Strength Game will go to either ride they want to go on. Though Axel lost the bet, he still had a lot of fun.

As for Rarity and Petra, they had a good time at a clothing shop, but mostly Rarity had a good time. Rarity tried on so many outfits, she chose the ones she liked. As for Petra, she wasn't really thrilled with shopping, but she did have a good time anyway.

Lukas and Rainbow had a blast when they were racing on horses. When Lukas challenged her to a race, Rainbow knew that she was going to win. After racing around the stable, Rainbow actually won the race and did her victory dance that Lukas didn't get, but actually had a great time with his rainbow-haired friend.

As for Twilight and Sunset, they had a great time at the library. Sunset found a few books that she was interested in, but Twilight found so many books. Twilight liked those books so much, Sunset decided to rent them for her. The librarian was surprised about the amount of books they were taking, but she was quite impressed that Twilight has an interest in books.

Right now, it was nighttime, and the Order and the guardians were outside the temple near a campfire with Ivor, who was telling the guardians a story that involved one of the Order's adventures.

"And then, there we were." Ivor told. "Stranded above dangerous Ender Mites because of that dreaded White Pumpkin! But fortunately, Jesse got us out alive when he got that flint and steel and left that murderer with the Ender Mites."

The guardians clapped after Ivor had finished the story as Ivor bowed.

"That was absolutely wonderful." Rarity said while clapping.

"Well, it was okay." Rainbow replied.

"So, how was your vacation here?" Ivor asked.

"We had a blast! But, mostly I had a blast." Pinkie answered. "Axel took me to this carnival that was not too far from here! My souvenir," She points to the yellow bow in her hair. "This cute little bow."

"We all had a good time." Applejack said.

"Glad you guys are having a good time." Petra said.

"Eh, my time here is okay." Spike replied. "I did walk around the streets like an ordinary stray dog would, and I did find a group of stray dogs in an alley way."

"And, how was it for you?" Jesse asked.

"The dogs were okay, except for every time I tell them a knock-knock joke."

Flashback...

In an alley way, Spike was sitting down with a group of five dogs. He had a good time, until...

"Hey guys. Knock knock."

The dogs suddenly started barking at Spike.

"If I told you guys once, I told you a thousand times! It's not a REAL door! It's just a joke!"

End of flashback

"Yeah..."

"Well, that's just how dogs are." Lukas replied to Spike. "They bark at something or someone for no good reason."

"Wow. You just blew my mind. Thank you, Lukas." Spike said sarcastically.

Hearing that, Lukas wore a stoic expression on his face, knowing it was sarcasm.

"So, who wants me to tell the story on how we got the Redstone Heart?" Ivor asked, seeing all the guardians but Rainbow raised their hands.

"Well, it went like-"

"Okay, Mr. Ivor. I think you had enough storytelling for tonight." Rainbow said, seeing Ivor sit on a log with crossed arms and narrowed eyebrows. "I'm going to tell you humans a REAL story, based on Equestria's history. So prepare yourselves. This story is no walk in the park, and you better find someone to hug."

Hearing Rainbow's words, Axel grabbed Spike and hugged him as if he were a stuffed animal.

"Eh..." Spike sighed.

"Okay, spit it out. I want to know." Petra demanded.

"It's about time I tell you humans about the tale of Midnight Sparkle." Rainbow revealed, seeing raised eyebrows plastered on the Order's faces.

"Midnight who?" Lukas asked.

"I thought we agreed to never tell that story to anyone." Applejack scolded.

"True, but if we're going to stay here, the Order should know." Rainbow replied.

"Are you sure they should know about this?" Fluttershy asked with a tone of concern.

"Totally."

Twilight sighed. "Okay."

"Go on..." Jesse said.

"Midnight Sparkle was one of the oldest members of the Alliance of Darkness." Rainbow told. "She was absolutely powerful, and she had a taste for power. Her wings were dark as midnight, her eyes sparkled with power, and the gem on her crown glowed every time she absorbed magic. So many people feared her back then, until one day. She was sent to Canterlot to absorb power from all of the most powerful Equestrians. The more she attacked, the more power she wanted. But, that's when Starswirl the Bearded came and trapped her in a small crystal that he hoped will keep her contained for all of eternity. But that's when war struck. A Changeling managed to find the crystal that kept Midnight imprisoned, but he failed to release her when Princess Celestia blasted that Changeling with magic, making him drop the crystal into the ocean. No one in Equestria knows if Midnight Sparkle still lives in that crystal, but they do believe that Midnight Sparkle will return for revenge someday."

After Rainbow finished telling her story, Axel screamed like a little girl as he squeezed Spike. Then, he noticed wide-eyed expressions on everyone's faces. "Sorry..."

"So, about this Midnight Sparkle, how powerful is she?" Olivia asked.

"Midnight Sparkle is so powerful, she can destroy a single statue in one hit." Twilight answered.

"She's also so scary, even the Endermen are scared of her." Fluttershy said.

"This Midnight Sparkle, how long did she live?" Jesse asked.

"She's been around Equestria for a millennia." Applejack answered. "And, nobody knows if she still lives."

"Who knows? She's probably stuck in the middle of the ocean right now." Rainbow said.

"I can only think about it." Petra laughed, getting stoic faces from everyone else. "What? I'm just saying."

"Oh! Look at the time!" Rarity said while looking at her pocket watch. "It's getting late already! Now, please excuse me, I have some sleep to get."

"Yeah. We should be getting some rest for tomorrow." Rainbow agreed as she got up from her log and walked away.

The others but Jesse and Sunset agreed, getting up from their logs and walking back to the temple as Twilight looked at them.

"Um, are you two coming?" Twilight asked.

"Don't worry about us. We'll catch up." Jesse replied, seeing Twilight nod and walk away with Spike following.

"Hey, Rainbow. Want to race again tomorrow?" Lukas asked.

"Challenge accepted." Rainbow replied.

After seeing the others walk back to the temple, Jesse took out a container of cookies as Sunset took one.

"This was a good idea." Sunset said as she took a bite from her cookie.

"I know. Now that the guardians are here, we can spend a lot of time together now." Jesse agreed. "Too bad they won't be here for long."

"We might see them again if they decided to take another vacation here."

Jesse chuckled. "Maybe. Just maybe."

Thinking of that tale Rainbow told, Sunset stared at the ground, which caught Jesse's attention.

"You okay, Sunset?" Jesse asked with a raised eyebrow.

"I'm okay. It's just every time Rainbow brings that story up, I always wonder."

"What?" Jesse asked as he bit his cookie.

"Where is Midnight Sparkle?" Sunset looked at the night sky.

Meanwhile, a pair of siblings were walking on the beach. One of them looked over the ocean, while the other one looked at his iron arm.

As the sister looked at her brother, she asked, "Does it still hurt?"

"A little." The brother said. "I thank Lester for giving me this arm, but I still blame that Enderman for...you know."

The sister looked over the ocean again. "Have you ever wonder what else is out there? Something that we never knew existed? Something new that we never heard of?"

"Who knows? Maybe your wonders are true."

Suddenly, the siblings saw a small pink light from far away as they ran to find the source of the light. After all that running they saw that the light was coming from a pink gem that was washed up on shore. Filled with curiosity, the brother picked up the gem and looked at it.

"What is it?" The sister asked.

"I don't know. I've never seen anything like it."

"Should we bring it to Lester tomorrow?"

"It's best of we should. He might know what it is." The brother agreed, putting the gem into his pocket. "Let's go home."

After the sister agreed, the two siblings walked home, still carrying the glowing crystal that they were curious about.
