Equestria Girls: A CHS Love Story
Hidden Talents
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAdagio, Aria, and Sonata all arrived back at their home after school. “So, how are supposed to get that key in Celestia’s Office?” Aria asked. “There’s no way she’s going to give it to us.”
“I’ve been thinking about that.” Said Adagio. “And I have a plan. To get into her office, we need a major distraction. And I know just the one.”
“What?” Sonata asked.
“A concert!” Adagio said triumphantly. “All of the students and staff will be distracted, leaving us free to get the key and unlock the book!”
Aria interjected. “There’s a couple of problems with that. One, throwing a concert is how we lost our powers in the first place. And two, we can no longer sing.”
Adagio waved her off. “I’m already way ahead of you. We are going to put on the concert to show the school that we have truly ‘changed.’ Once they think we’re reformed, they won’t think that we’re up to something.”
Sonata seemed unsure. “But what about the singing part?”
Adagio just smiled at her. “Simple, we’re going to re-learn how to sing, starting now.”
A few hours later, and all three sirens were huddled around a piano. Sonata sat and played as all three tried to sing. It wasn’t going as well as they had hoped. Aria slammed her fist down on the piano in frustration.
“This is hopeless! We’ve been practicing for hours, and we still sound terrible!”
“Becoming a singer doesn’t happen immediately.” Sonata said. “It takes time.”
“Time is something we don’t have.” Adagio added. “We need our powers back! I refuse to continue on as normal teenage girl!”
“At least two of us are trying.” Aria then glared over at Sonata.
Sonata looked at Adagio and Aria innocently. “What?”
“You know what I’m talking about.” Aria continued. “You’re the only one of us who sounds the worst. It's like you’re not even trying!”
Sonata just frowned and turned away from Adagio and Aria.
“Come on Aria, I need some fresh air.” Adagio then glared at Sonata. “You stay here and keep practicing, if you can even do that.” Adagio and Aria then left the house. Sonata folded her arms on the piano and rested her head on them. She felt like she was going to cry.
A few minutes later, there was a knock at the door. Sonata got up and answered it. Standing in the doorway with a smile on his face was Thunderstruck.
“Hi Sonata. May I please come in?” Thunderstruck asked.
“Of course!” Sonata welcomed Thunderstruck inside. She was glad to see a friendly face, even if was one she had just met.
Thunderstruck looked around the house. “Nice place you have here. Where are your sisters?”
Sonata looked down at her boots and rubbed her arm. “Adagio and Aria are not my sisters. They’re friends whom I’ve know for a very long time.”
Thunderstruck then noticed the piano in the room. “Nice piano, do you play?”
Sonata looked up and smiled. “Yeah, I’ve been playing for quite a while actually.”
“Can you also sing?”
Sonata blushed. “Well, a little.”
“Can you sing something for me, please?”
“Sure.” Sonata sat down at the piano. She placed her fingers on the keys and performed a song.

Thunderstruck’s breath was taken away. Never before had he heard such a lovely singing voice. “Sonata, that was beautiful!”
Sonata giggled and tried to hide her smile behind her hand. “Thanks.”
“Can your friends perform as well you can?”
“Well, no. In fact, they don’t know that I can sing so well.”
“Why not?”
Sonata let out a sigh. “Its...its a long story.”
Thunderstruck sat down on a nearby couch. “Oh. Well, it’s ok if you don’t want to talk about it. We can just talk about something else.”
Sonata got up and joined Thunderstruck on the couch. “Like what?”
“Well, tell me about yourself. Where are you from? What are your interest? How long have you known your friends?”
Sonata bit her lower lip. She was afraid to tell Thunderstruck about her past, and that she was siren. “Um, why don’t you go first?”
“Alright. I’ve been moving around with my family since I was kid. Because of of my mom’s job, we never stayed in one place for more than a year. My dad is the one who got me into music. Riding in the car with him and listening to classic rock stations. He also talks about music from his teenage years. I took up the guitar ten years ago, and haven’t stopped playing ever since.”
“Wow, sounds like you’ve lived an interesting life.”
Thunderstruck lowered his head and sighed. “Not really. I’ve always had trouble making friends. I always feel like an outsider, just watching the world passing me buy. All that I really want is to be with people who make me happy.”
Thunderstruck’s words hit Sonata right at her core. She too felt like an outsider. And even though she had been with Adagio and Aria for so long, Sonata wasn’t truly happy. She often longed to be with someone who could see past her siren self for the girl that was there.
Thunderstruck and Sonata then looked down to see that they were holding hands. They both pulled away and blushed. “This is awkward.” Said Thunderstruck.
“Yeah.” Sonata replied with a smile.
Adagio and Aria both arrived back home a moment later. “What are you doing here?” Adagio said to Thunderstruck with an irritated tone.
“Sonata invited me over. My name’s Thunderstruck.” Thunderstruck extended his hand, but both Adagio and Aria just looked at him with disgust.
Aria pointed towards the door. “Out.Now.”
Not wanting to cause a scene, Thunderstruck stood up and headed for the door. Before he left, Thunderstruck took one last look at Sonata. “See you at school tomorrow.”
After Thunderstruck left, both Adagio and Aria stared down Sonata. “Is something wrong?” Sonata asked meekly.
“What are you doing inviting some guy over to our house?!” Adagio asked furiously. “He could have found out about our plans!”
Sonata frowned and lowered her head. “I...I just think he’s nice. Thunderstruck is also a really good musician, and we have a lot of other things in common.”
Aria raised an eyebrow. “Wait, did you say that he’s a musician?”
“Yeah.”
A smile came over Aria’s face. “Adagio, might I have a word with you?” Aria and and Adagio both turned their backs to Sonata as Aria whispered to Adagio.
“I think we can use this Thunderstruck to our advantage.”
“How so?” Asked Adagio.
“Principal Celestia won’t let us put on a concert, she clearly doesn’t trust us enough. But if someone like Thunderstruck were to suggest a concert, then principal Celestia would allow it.”
A sinister smile crept over Adagio’s face. “Aria, I like the way you think.” The two then turned back to face Sonata. “Sonata, do you think Thunderstruck would help you out, as a friend?”
Sonata felt uneasy. “I think so. Why do you ask?”
“Because our plan just got a whole lot easier.” Said Aria.
