Be Safe
Never Fear(Shining Armor POV)
Previous ChapterNext ChapterRain poured down unforgiving on my cloaked hood in the middle of the night. As I trudged up the tedious steps that led to home. I couldn't believe how long I had been gone…those damn delinquent just wouldn't let up. They were a real pain when they are in massive hordes.
I pushed back my hood as I shoved open the door that led into the front entrance, revealing my slightly damp hair, but nonetheless, it remained in a decent look. I let out a deep sigh of contentment…it felt so good to be back. There had been times I had almost given up but then I thought of her and just the memory had breathed life back into my dying hope.
I snuck a glance at the clock above the staircase…it was too late, she'd probably slap me silly for waking her up in the dead of the night. I couldn't help grinning despite the fact, I'd be able to see her again…I had missed her so much. I never imagined that I could feel something so strong in my chest, a pleasantly burning emotion that flared beautifully whenever I was with her. Remembering that sensation was one of the only things that had kept me going.
I made my way up the impressive staircase and began my journey through seemingly endless halls, yearning for my soft mattress and a gentle place to finally lay my head. Upon reaching my room I noticed, with slight curiosity, the dull, soft light that peeked out from the very bottom of the door. I couldn't help but feel a hint of anger,
Twily, you better not have used my room as 'study central' like last time I was gone…It took me forever to clean everything up.
My eyes narrowed in preparation for the atrocity that my room would now be. I opened the doors slowly with a frown planted on my features. But as I viridian gaze fell on the scene before me, my face softened and I felt a warmth rise in my chest, gently driving away the anger.
I made my way quietly over to the sleeping girl, curled up innocently on top of my bed. I winced as the floor creaked loudly under my boot, and looked up quickly to see if I had waken her. I watched anxiously as she stirred slightly but relaxed my tense muscles as I pressed her beautiful face further into the soft pillow and continued to sleep. I glared angrily at the guilty floorboard before renewing my journey to the bed.
Upon reaching the edge of the bed, I crouched down onto my knees so my gaze was level with her angelic features.
She looks so beautiful when she's asleep…well more so than usual.
I hesitantly reached out a gloved hand before affectionately brushing the stray strands of hair that fell across her delicate face. My lips lifted into a small smirk as I watched the corners of her mouth curve into a cute smile, she was the light that shined in the darkness of my job. My hand moved to her cheek, mind inwardly wondering if I should risk waking her, which I ignored as I tenderly stroked her creamy cheek. I withdrew my hand nervously as I saw her long eyelashes flutter and her body stir slightly.
I should really start listening to my head, it has way more sense than I give it credit…
I could only watch as her lashes trembled before exposing her beautiful, deep lavender eyes that blinked slowly, still lingering within slumbers sweet embrace. Her eyes widened with disbelief… I saw her wide-eyed gaze and opened my mouth to explain myself,
"Okay, I know that it probably seems like I was watching you sleep…and not gonna lie, I kind of was, but I didn't mean t-"
I was cut off as I felt her arms encircle my body, face pressed into my warm chest. I felt her eyes break into another onslaught of tears, but these ones were different…they were beautiful, tears of happiness. In return, my arms wrapped closely around her slender body, lighting my soul back on fire with the touch I had almost forgotten. My flame ignited the smoldering embers of her heart, I wouldn't have to become a memory to her…she was in my arms once again.
"I thought you wouldn't come back…" she whispered into his cloak, damp with her tears.
I nestled my face in her silky hair, breathing in the soothing scent that was one of the beautiful things about her I had deeply missed, before lifting her chin gently and surrendering a soft, affectionate kiss on her forehead. I leant my own forehead against hers and felt her tilt into my touch, my voice quietly caressed her ears with my reassurance,
"If I know you'll be waiting…I'll always come back home."
She lowered her head and nuzzled reliably into the crook of my neck, drifting gently into the arms of slumber, pacified by the contagious warmth my body offered. The fire tamer also felt the intense pull of sedations dulcet call; careful not to disturb the sleeping girl in my arms, I warily adjusted my arms under her knees and back before rising from my position on the floor and delicately placing her petite frame on the bed.
I stared down for a moment at her flawless beauty, caught breathless as the faint glow of the lamp followed the graceful silhouette of her features. I leant over drowsily and shut off the lamp, room plunged into darkness.
Carefully, I made my way over to the other side of the bed before gently sitting on the edge and kicking off my boots. Too tired to remove my uniform; I leant back into the yielding mattress in exhaustion and rolled over onto my side, shifting slightly closer to the faint outline of her body. Hearing her subtle rhythmic breathing eased my body and my breathing fell to the same measure as I slipped into sleep.
