Just Winging It
Chapter 2
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"So, I'm in a land called Equestria, where the population is mostly colorful talking ponies like you, Rainy?"
Rainbow nodded, "Uh huh."
Jimmy kept going, "And this land is ruled over by two princess sisters who each control the sun and moon?"
Rainbow smiled, "Mhm, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, two of the coolest princesses, aside from Twilight. She's the Princess of Friendship and one of my best friends."
The bat nodded, "Cool and you're a weather pony, able to physically alter nature itself?"
Rainbow had a smug smile, "Weather pony, Element of Loyalty and a Wonderbolt! So yeah, I'm all kinds of awesome!"
Jimmy enjoyed the ego on this pony, "Damn, and people said I have an ego." He suddenly had an idea, "Hey, Rainy, since we're like friends now, you think it would be cool if I showed you something?"
The pegasus was curious, "Sure, what is it?"
The bat stopped walking. He looked around to see if there would be anyone else that could see him, "Now, I'm gonna show ya somethin' that might be kinda scary, but also kinda cool." He smiled anxiously before pointing to the large tattoo on his chest, "Now do ya see this thing?"
Rainbow looked at it, "Yeah, I was gonna ask you about that. Is that like your cutie mark?"
Jimmy snickered, "Nah, nah, this ain't your little butt tattoo. This thing is magic. It was given to me one day when I found a meteor shard."
Rainbow stared at the big black swanhead, "Magic huh? What does it do?" She tried to touch it but Jimmy stopped her.
He laughed nervously, "Ya definitely don't wanna put your hoof in that... the thing can be pretty temperamental and has been known to shock people it doesn't like." He spoke this all with as much seriousness as his goofy bat face could convey.
Rainbow still wasn't convinced, "Uh-huh, so what do you do?"
The bat leaned in, "Well you see, I'm aerokinetic..."
Rainbow just stared.
He shook his head, "Here, I'll show you." He pulled her closer, "Get in close, now. Don't want you to get hurt or nothin'." He pointed across, "Okay! Do you see that tree over there?"
Rainbow looked at the tree he'd pointed out, "Yeah?"
Jimmy grinned as his red eyes started to glow, "Good, now pay attention." He stuck out his right wing then spread his palm as he drew focus on the air surrounding him right now.
RD looked at him, she saw the glowing in his eyes. It almost reminded her of whenever Twilight went into full magic mode. She felt air rushing around them as it gathered in Jimmy's open hand as a ball of wind.
Jimmy grinned a wicked grin, "Yeah... this is positively erotic sometimes!" He quipped before pulling his right wing back, "And swoop!" He swept his wing forth creating a sudden gust strong enough to rip that tree out by its roots.
Rainbow was speechless before she suddenly cheered, "Whoa! That was amazing! I've only ever seen alicorns do stuff life that!" she fluttered in the air before turning back to him, "Jimmy, what are you?"
The bat's eyes had stopped glowing, but his grin stayed plastered to his face, "I... am a shardbeast, that's what we'd begun to call ourselves. People like me who stumble upon magical shards that fell from space itself. Mine gives me the power to control the wind, so in a way, I'm kinda like you, Rainy."
Rainbow was all teeth now, "Sweet Celestia, I have to show you to Twilight! She's always eager to learn about new magics from different worlds."
Jimmy smiled as he felt Crazy Jimmy retreat to the recesses of his brain, "Yeah? I've never met a princess before. An emperor once, but that's another story for another day." He ruffled Rainbow's mane, "Come on, you're supposed to be taking me to this Ponyville place, remember?"
RD blinked her magenta eyes twice before remembering, "Oh right! It's this way! Come on!"
Jimmy shook his head and he followed the excitable blue pegasus, "Yeah, she's totally into me."
...
It was afternoon by the time the pair had made it to Ponyville.
Many ponies stopped to look at the strange bat creature walking with Rainbow. Some seemed nervous, while others were more interested.
If Rainbow trusted this guy...
A minty green unicorn came right up to the pair, “Wow! Rainbow, who’s your new friend?”
Rainbow smiled, “Hi, Lyra! This is-”
The bat interrupted, “Howdy! I’m Jimmy! Jimmy Lee Darrell, pleased to meet ya!” He stuck out a hand for the curious unicorn.
Lyra squealed, “OH MY GOSH! YOU HAVE HANDS! Are you a human?”
The bat snickered, “Human? Hell naw, ain’t no human alive that’s half as cool as me! I’m a bat!” He wiggled his big ears while he showed his fangs to her.
Lyra was not intimidated in the slightest, “Aw, not human...” she pouted a little before smiling up at him, “So you’re like some kind of batman?”
Jimmy laughed, “Naw, naw, I ain’t Batman... I’m a bat and” He pulled on his loincloth, “definitely a man” he let the cloth snap back into place,
“But I’m not Batman.”
Rainbow pushed him along, “Okay, we’re moving along, Jimmy.” She called out to Lyra, “We’ll catch you later, Lyra. Tell Bon Bon hi for me!”
Lyra giggled, “Okay! Bye Dash! Bye Jimmy!” and she trotted away with the most excited look on her face.
Jimmy snickered as RD pushed him, “Aw, was someone gettin’ jealous back there?”
RD blushed, “What? No! Lyra’s got a marefriend already! Why would I be jealous of her?”
The bat grinned, “Cause you like me?”
Dash pushed him hard enough to make him fall over, “Shut up! I just think you’re cool and funny and I want to help you, that’s all!”
The bat snickered, “Right...”
...
Both bat and pegasus stopped as they came up to Rarity’s Carousel Boutique, her shop and her home as well.
Jimmy had to look at the big building. To him, it looked like someone had built their house out of a merry-go-round, or a giant wedding cake. He quirked an eyebrow while Rainbow knocked on the front door, “Rarity!”
“Just a minute!” the fashionista singsonged from within. She was clearly in the middle of work when they got here.
The front door swung open and Rarity, the lovely white unicorn with the gorgeous purple mane stepped out, “Ah, Rainbow! It is so nice of you to drop in, but unfortunately I am dealing with a client right now.”
“This will only take a minute out of your time, Rare.” RD said before gesturing to the 6 foot tall bat standing next to her, “First, this is Jimmy.”
Rarity saw the bat in question; her first reaction was revulsion. She remembered those nasty vampire fruit bats that had plagued Sweet Apple Acres once. Her second reaction was astonishment; he was certainly a more handsome specimen than those wild ones. She held a hoof to her chest, “My... Jimmy, is that your name? Um...” She shook her head, “Well as I said, I’m dealing with a client, but I guess you could come in if you don’t mind waiting.”
The bat smiled, “Why thank you! I will come in.”
Rarity already liked his voice. She stepped aside, “Then please, be my guest.”
The bat chuckled, “And thank you again.” He playfully pinched her snout before going inside, though he had to duck his head under the doorway to get in.
Both ponies followed him in.
Rarity stuck behind to ask, “Just where did you pick this one up, Rainbow? He’s such a dashing, debonair and,” she rubbed her nose where he had touched her, “playful gent.”
Rainbow explained, “I found him just outside of Ponyville. He just popped up out of nowhere, literally. He says he’s from a place called Texas.”
Rarity nodded, “Mmm, so definitely not a natural Equestrian, though he does sound a tad bit like Applejack.”
RD agreed, “Yeah, I noticed that too.”
Inside, Jimmy had taken a seat on a stool and was having a nice little chat with Rarity’s client, a cute blue unicorn with a bi-colored mane of white and blue.
“And honestly, I can’t figure out why everypony says my mane looks like toothpaste.”
Jimmy snickered as he messed with Minuette’s mane in his overly touchy but playful manner, “Well, it’s a pretty mane anyway and congratulations on your engagement.”
The mare blushed, “Gee thanks, I was so nervous about asking Berry. We’d been friends for so long, but I didn’t think she ever returned my feelings.”
The bat pinched her nose, “Ah, but you gambled and ya won the jackpot. I’d say that’s a great reason to be happy!”
She giggled, “Wow, why can’t the other colts be as funny as you?”
Rarity cleared her throat as she came up to the pair, “Well, well, Mr. James, it seems you are making yourself quite at home.”
Jimmy laughed, “Yeah that’s the thing about bats. We’ll make a home anywhere... as long as it ain’t cold.”
Rarity held her hoof over her mouth when she laughed at his casual attitude. She caught her breath, “Well, as I said before, I am currently busy with Ms. Minuette here, but Rainbow has already informed me about your need for...” she eyed the loincloth around his waist, “better clothes to cover your playthings.” She tittered at the little dirty word she just used. “I can help as soon as I am finished with my client. Business comes first before pleasure, after all.” She blushed as she realized what she had just said.
Jimmy snickered but ignored her slip-up for her sake, “Thank you, Rarity. I’ll just be right here, all nice and polite like the good boy I was brought up to be.”
Rarity tittered some more, “Yes, you go do that. Now, Minuette where were we?” She led the unicorn into another part of the boutique where they would not be interrupted again.
Jimmy sat back on the stool and waited as he’d said.
Rainbow almost laughed. He looked like an overgrown foal waiting for his mom to finish shopping.
Jimmy, meanwhile, looked at the mirror situated behind the stool he’d resided on. He saw himself and even had to agree with what a fine specimen of manliness he was. There he was, 6’2, 27 years old with gray fur all around, long, straight black hair that stretched to his shoulder blades, pointy fangs sticking out even with his mouth fully closed and bright red eyes that looked like rubies.
His smile faded as he began to think about his friends he’d left behind. Everything had gone so fast since he woke up in this strange land, he hadn’t had a moment to really think. His friends, his adopted brother, the old bird who took care of them both, Marina...
They all were probably going crazy wondering where he’d gone by now. Well some of them were probably throwing a party now that they didn’t have to deal with his odd brand of humor, but Marina...
He felt a hoof on his shoulder then looked at RD, “Oh hey, Rainy.”
Rainbow tilted her head at him, “You looked upset there, Jim... What’s up?”
The bat sighed, “Yeah, I guess it’s just hit me. I’m here in a strange land and all my friends an’ family are probably losin’ their minds just thinkin’ where I might be.”
The pegasus wrapped a wing around her friend, “Hey...” She had an idea, “My friend, Twilight might know something. After we’re done here, we should go over to her place. It’s worth a shot right?”
Jimmy put both of his wings around Rainbow and he hugged her tight, “Yeah, that sounds like a good plan!” He smiled, suddenly happy again. He nuzzled the blushing pegasus, “Thank you, Rainy.”
...
Rarity went right to work in helping Jimmy after Minuette had let the boutique. She took out her measuring tape before speaking with that refined accent of hers, “Now, considering your height, I’ll have to measure you while sitting down, is this alright?”
Jimmy nodded, “Works for me.”
Rarity smiled, “Splendid!” And so she got started, asking him to extend his limbs or sit up straight when needed.
Rainbow sat back and watched while Rarity did her thing, “So Jimmy... I know it’s kinda late to ask this but, just what kinda bat are you?”
The bat snickered, showing his teeth as he spoke, “Why, I’m a vampire bat.” The light glinted off of fangs.
Rarity should have been frightened to hear this, but this somehow just made him seem that much more enticing, “A vampire you say... So you drink blood?”
He grinned, “Yeah, but not in the practical way... I mean, if I’m ever hungry, I could just eat anythin’. The only times I bite are uh...” he winked, “in the bedroom.”
And that just about made Lady Rarity’s perfectly coiffed mane come undone, “Oh my... So you like to bite during... relations?”
The bat grinned some more, clearly enjoying the embarrassed/aroused expressions he was getting out of her. His bright red eyes glowed once again as he felt Crazy Jimmy threatening to come out, “Oh yeah... Many times me an’ a hot gal are in it an’ I just nip her. Tiny little bite, a little blood, just that feeling of helplessness... Am I right?” He tickled her chin and made Rarity shiver just from the touch of his claw to her throat.
Rainbow’s wings had gone up by now, “This just got hot...”
The unicorn had to tighten her hind legs a little when the bat had so blatantly teased her, “I-I see what you mean.” She had to take a breather, “Now, can you please behave yourself? I am still trying to take measurements for you, darling.”
Jimmy’s eyes had returned to normal then, “Yeah... I’ll behave.”
So Rarity went right back to work when she had a thought, “Oh, I had forgotten to ask, is there anything in particular you have in mind for your wardrobe, Mr. James?”
The bat snickered, “Well, first off, it’s Jimmy, not James. Jimmy Lee Darrell, that’s my full name an’ I guess... Ya think ya could whip up somethin’ country western? Ah’m a Texan after all an’ I do love to reinforce mah stereotype.” He chuckled, now that he was his cheery happy self again and not whatever that other Jimmy was a while ago.
Rarity tittered as she became more comfortable with him again, “Wow, you really sound like you could be one of Applejack’s relatives.” She measured his waistline for him while she kept talking, “She lives out on Sweet Apple Acres, she’s a farm pony; always has that cute country drawl of hers, though I’d never admit that to her face.” She giggled.
“Your secret’s safe with me.” He whispered to her with that friendly smile of his.
Rarity blushed, “Thank you.”
When Rarity was done taking the necessary measurements, she let Jimmy go, “I will have your country duds finished in good time, Mr. Darrell. It was truly a pleasure meeting you, ta-ta!”
The bat stopped to take a knee before the pretty mare, “And it was great meeting you too, Miss Rarity.” He took her right hoof then kissed it like the country gentleman he was.
Rarity’s mane came undone once again, “My, such a charmer, Mr. Darrell.”
The bat winked at her with those intimidating yet alluring red eyes of his, “I’m just a good ol’ boy like mah mama taught me, ma’am.” He got up, then stepped out.
Rainbow met up with him out front, “And here I thought Pinkie Pie was the queen of creepiness.” She snickered before guiding him along, “Come on, it’s already gonna be nighttime. I could take you to my place. It’s a big house made of clouds, you can’t miss it!”
Jimmy shrugged, “Sounds fine.”
RD smiled, “Alright then, it’s settled! Tomorrow, I can take you to meet Twilight. She could probably figure out what brought you to Equestria. Well come on!”
Then the two of them left the boutique together.
Rarity closed the door behind them then locked after they had gone. The teasing Jimmy had given her earlier still left its mark on her and she needed to do something about it. She shivered as she thought about a certain stallion toy of hers that was sure to get some good use out of tonight.
