When the Monster Howls this Former Day the Moon and Her Cressent Doth Comes to Slay
Wail of the Insufferable Void
Load Full StoryTwo entities occupied these halls this very night. While the rest of the ponies, servants, guest or other slept in their magically sound barred rooms, Luna was on the prowl taking each step with careful and precise consideration as she neared closer and closer, one tile after the other, from one hall on to the next. Each time coming nearer and nearer to the high-pitched, screaming fiend that decidedly took up residents within the castle itself, alluding guards and other ponies alike.
As she came to corridor intersecting along side that of the one the beast occupied, she noted that its continuous screaming and continuous howling would be the one thing, above all else, that would define this tale she would add to her battle songs told long ago by many including her alongside Celestia.
She listened carefully, through it one would say even a deff pony would know as the stone laden floors rocked and shuddered in stress and seemingly in fear to the beast’s cry. Not her, never her. She’d remember facing bigger foes, more ferocious and powerful too. This one, judging by its tune alone, seemed small. A rodent or perhaps pest when compared to beasts of true, unrivaled legend.
However big or small it was she would make quick, sufficient and precise work of it. Pressed against the cornering wall with her crescent halberd, a fitting weapon complimenting her image, raised in her magical aura she drew one last precautionary breath and with it, darted from behind the sanctuary of her corridor to face the beast.
True to her reputation she was swift, silent and above all, decisive. With one fleeting glance she took in the image of this lesser monstrosity. Its face was pressed against the ground with a singular red beady eye that pierced her soul as it continued to let loose with its cry, unremorseful for those around it, careless to its own presents and to that of another.
Its rump, or end part, stuck high into the air with a tail fixed above all else. Its stomach was exposed and ran up the length of its body which seemingly was reversed. Head to tail it was flipped around but it seemed natural for such a fiend darkly colored black.
With one dash of swiftness she was immediately behind it firmly planting her hind legs into the ground as she took the crescent halberd in her hooves for greater attack power. With one final glance she noticed a secondary lesser tail, this one snaking down behind her following the length of the corridor disappearing far beyond.
It mattered not for with one final gesture of her hooves, she brought the blade of the hallabered down and with a shattering of hardened scales and a ripping of its outer stomach the fiend fell silent once and for all, its one red eye dulling and dying along with its howl.
“The beast is slayed,” she announced to nopony but herself.
Even still when she did she wasn’t alone as just in front of her a maid servant poked her head around a corner with a curious look dawned on her face.
Taking notice of this maid servant's presents, she eased up on her posture, raised the hallabered and rested it on her back. “Fear not,” she said kindly. “The moon watches over the night and the beasts within shall yield to her.” Striding past the servant she gave her one last final smile and said, “Sleep comfortably little pony. I will watch over you whilst you do.”
As she continued past taking her rout through the castle the maid servant gave one last look to her and gave one long prolonged look to the, now slain, ‘fiend,’ with great perplexity, great confusion, but with only slight understanding.
She found her words moments later and stuttered, “b-but it's a... vacuum.”
And the Moon boldly watched over the night.
