The Guards Train With Link(Chapter Two)

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Link wasn't sure why he agreed to it in the first place. He wasn't thrilled at the idea of training the guards. He was human and they were horses. He sighed and went to the training grounds, seeing the guards train was...Hard to see. His sword was resting in the scabbard, which was on his back, he took a step forward and saw clearly how they were doing.  Sighing, Link stopped the guards by yelling. The guards made their way over and started to listen to their trainer.

"You want to protect this land?" Link asked, "With your life?"

"SIR! YES SIR!" The guards answered.

"Then each of you will need to train ten times harder!" Link said, crossing his arms, "Show me what you can do!"

The guards nodded and went to work, Link watched each one carefully and found that...They need to work a lot harder. He sighed and watched the last one before seeing how stronger he was then the others. Weird. The ones before we're at the same strength level, how could this one be different? The ones he was training were newbies, was this one not?

"You there," Link started, the guard turning around, "Your stronger than the rest, how are you still a newbie?"

"Well...I failed the fight against Shining Armor, the captain of the guards, so many times. We need to win the fight before we move on to protecting the Princesses." The guard lowered his head, Link felt bad for him.

"Come fight me." The guard raised his head, many guards looking at Link when he said that, "I want to see where you go wrong."

The guard nodded and went with Link, they were watched by the rest of the guards. Link took out his sword and the guard held a spear with his magic. Link, also had a shield, which was not easily broken. They raced towards each other, the guard's spear was blocked by the shield, so it couldn't hit Link. The master sword went towards the guard, but he had moved out of the way until....

Wack

The guard fell on the ground, Link standing tall. It wasn't the sword that hit him, it was the shield. Link knew what the problem was, the guard could dodge the first attack but not the second.

"I see now," Link said, helping the guard up, "You can dodge the first attack but not the second. Dodging all hits is required. You have the first hit nailed down but just not the second."

"Oh." the guard felt embarrassed, "My bad."

"No worries, I was like that." Link admitted, "I've been doing this for so long. Couple of my friends were kidnapped and I went to save them. Took a long time before I could find them but I did."

"You think that's going to help you Human?" A voice said, Link turned around and groaned. Shining Armor.

"What do you want?" Link asked, a hand on the hilt of his sword. "I thought you were told to guard the Castle?"

"I'm on break," Shining answered, "And not dodging all hits is required to move on to be a guard. You need strength and power."

"That's not it." Link said, "Being a guard doesn't mean you MUST have strength, power, and all of that. But you must need to remain strong and brave. Fight for what's yours."

Shining Armor rolled his eyes and walked over to the guard, Link fought with. But Link was fast and moved the guard before he could get a beating. Shining gave him a confused look, but Link knew better.

"Your wrong in the head when it comes to being a guard." Link told the captain, "I wouldn't be surprised if you were ripped from your title."

"Twilight won't let that happen Human."

"How do you know that?" Link asked, "You don't know what she could do. I wonder how you would act if she ripped you of your title?"

Shining's eyes narrowed, he frowned at went back inside the Castle. Many newbies cheered for Link, and the guard thanked him for standing up to Shining Armor.

"You think we were right to let him train them?" The dark furred Alicorn asked, "I mean, he just stood up to Shining Armor."

"We should just let this roll out Luna." The white furred one said, "Besides, he's actually very good at training the guards."

"Yeah, he is."

The two looked at each other and then at the youngest of them. Twilight was looking at Link and sighed, knowing how he stood up to her older brother was...Brave and confusing. No one dared to stand up to him when he was training the guards, and no one questioned his ways of training. But Link...He was less tough with the newbies, he was nice to them and knew how to treat them.

"Someone has a crush on Link." The two elders Alicorns teased.

"No I don't," Twilight said, looking towards them, "I just can't believe he stood up to Shining Armor."

The sisters looked at each other and sighed. Twilight went back to looking out the window and watched as the scene played out being the guards and Link. She sighed when she heard the doors open and close and right on cue, Shining Armor came up beside her. Grumpy.

"I can't believe he's doing my job!" Shining Armor spat out, "I want him gone!"

"Shiny," Twilight began, "The guards seem happy with him around, and it's not that bad!"

"Says you," Shining Armor said, "Twi, you don't know him well. He's not our kind, much less a pony! So how are we suppose to trust him?!"

"By giving him a chance!"

Shining groaned, damn him and his trustingly little sister. She would do anything for others, no matter what. But Link was different and he knew it. He was going to prove it. To everyone.
