Finding Freedom
Chapter 11
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAN: were going back to Silver's view. After a lot of thinking, the old plot has been thrown into the trash. I tried to think of a new plot, but nothing came to me as long as Martin's perspective was written. He isn't there enough to provide adequate detail. I had originally thought to do a satire of random plot stories, but this story cries out to me. I think I'm going to try to keep this low-key, but still have interest. So bear (RAWR!) with me as the story adjusts.

I started down the road at early dawn. If I could fly this would be so much easier! I could see down the road quite a ways, and was disappointed when I still couldn't see the base of the tower. I really needed to set some time aside to study my body in detail. I could gallop, but if I tried to run at full speed I usually fell over. The feeling of the wind in my mane was awesome. I knew that when I learned to fly that I would crash from trying to go to fast.
That was pain for another day, right now this tower was in for some pain. Well not literally, I doubt I can make any inanimate object feel pain. Something was nagging me that I shouldn't investigate. It kept telling me that this wasn't important and I should get back to Ponyville. That was just even more curious, I had been set on exploring this place, so why would I go back.
I also needed an excuse not to see Fluttershy again. She would probably cry as soon as she saw my letter, but it was for her own good. She deserved someone better than me. Someone reliable, and not mentally unstable. I would find out what was causing this problem and she would see me for who I really was and would hate me. I didn't want her regretting anything. Strange that didn't make me feel any better.
I was so deep in thought, that I didn't notice the turn in the road and I tripped on a loose rock. I looked up and saw the base of the tower. I didn't grin or anything. Determination filled me as I walked up to the door. I didn't even try knocking, I just kicked the door as hard as I could.
Nothing happened. My kicking skills as a pony were rubbish. In fact by trying to kick the door down, I had managed to just knock. That was something else I needed to learn, how to buck. Good thing I didn't try in front of Applejack, that would've been embarrassing.
No one answered the door after a while. That's what I get for being polite. Curious, I tried just opening the door. I wasn't surprised when it opened. I would've been surprised had it not. I walked in, sneaking wasn't really an option with hooves.
The place was huge, and filled with books. I couldn't see the roof, but pretty close to it. For a long way up the walls were just covered in book shelves, all filled with books. On the floor books laid in piles. A better way to describe this would be to just say book to any question about the place. A spiral staircase went around the tower up to the next floor.
I wasn't ever going to show this place to Twilight, never. Already I was feeling the urge to start looking at titles and flipping through pages. This entire place just screamed knowledge. Well since stealth wasn't an option….
"HELLO!? ANYBODY IN HERE!? ANSWER ME NOW OR REGRET IT LATER!"
My voice thundered throughout the building. At first I was scared that books would rain down on me. Luckily none did, but no one responded. I sighed, so much for avoiding the stairs. I began to climb.
I hate stairs. They're bad enough as a human, but as a pony they are horrible. I nearly fell several times in my attempt to climb. I didn't even try to count them. I didn't want to know how many were there. Sweat was dripping all over my body, making my mane stick to my neck. I looked back to see how far I had gone. My jaw dropped at the sight.
I Hadn't even gone up a whole flight. The ground was still close. Barely 20 steps away from me. How had I not noticed that I wasn't moving. If I was stupid enough I would've tried to climb backwards. I wasn't going to give up though, I was gonna reach the top of these stairs and kick Bowser's ass (Mario anyone?).
I just kept walking up and up, I never looked back. When I felt like my legs would just give up I stopped. I just wanted to be at the top already. With a great sigh I looked up. The door to the next floor was right in front of me. I'm not going to think about it, if I figure out there was an easier way, I might hurt something.
I opened the door steeling myself for whatever was behind it. A small bedchamber greeted me. Not one book was in it either. A large four-poster bed sat in the corner and a desk was opposite of it. A comfy looking chair was off to the side. Sitting in the chair, reading a book was a middle aged man. He had beard that was tied in a knot, with small trim sideburns. his hair was long and tied back. His eyes were a brilliant blue, and he focused them on me.
"Ah hello. I see you stumbled upon my humble home."
I laughed, "Humble? This place is huge. A giant tower that can be seen from anywhere does not qualify as normal."
He narrowed his eyes at me, "You can see this tower from far away?"
"No, I usually miss huge eyesore's like this one on a regular basis. Obviously I can see this place from far away."
The man said nothing to me.
"Now I just have a few questions for you. Why are you a human? Are you screwing with the ponies? And what's with all the books."
The man again narrowed his eyes when I said human. He still said nothing, and the silence was a bit disturbing.
"Alright, when I ask a question, you answer it alright?"
He finally opened his mouth, "Ah I see! You have been awakened. All though from the looks of you, just recently. I wondered when I saw your eyes. There's a fire there that most don't have. Well to answer your questions. I am human because I can't stand not having hands. Hooves are terrible for reading, and magic harms the books. To the second question, no I am not uh… interacting with the ponies in that manner."
I facehoofed, lightly, when he said that. "And finally, the books are my collection of knowledge. I take them with me wherever I go."
"I meant, are you messing with their feelings. Are you controlling them? And what do you mean you can't stand not having hands? You make it sound like it’s a choice to be a pony."
"Well in that case then I can say no, I am not. I haven't even introduced myself to the ponies yet, I have only met one of them in fact. Quite the odd one, she can see through my illusions somehow. Her eyes are quite… odd. I'll explain the human bit later, you have a lot to learn about yourself. Now that you have your questions answered, why don't we introduce ourselves. I'm mostly known as Morkar, the Intelligent."
"My name is Silver I guess, at least that's what they call me here. So you really aren't doing anything to the ponies? Are you conducting any weird experiments that could be?"
"You care an awful lot about them, that will cause trouble later. However, I am not in any way affecting the ponies of Equestria, but I may know who is."
"Tell me!"
"Why you're quite the impatient one, I wonder."
"Look old man, I need to find out who's doing this so I can stop them!"
"How do you plan on doing that?"
I waved my hoof, "Details, details. I need to take action now!"
Morkar grinned at me, "Well then I think I can help you there."
I stomped my hoof, "Alright"
"But first, you need to learn."
"Learn what? Didn't ya hear me old man? I need to take action, not sit around."
"First of all I am not old, I am currently a healthy 35. Secondly you need to learn a lot. Do you know how to use those wings of yours? How about fighting in that form? I can't teach you how to do those things, but I can teach you what being awakened means."
"What do you mean by awakened? Do you mean that my spirit has become conscious?"
"Now how do you not know that? Surely whoever awakened you explained what they were doing."
"No one awakened me, I did it myself."
Morkar grinned even more, "Ah an enlightenment. That makes things even more interesting. I have a feeling that you and I will be spending a lot of time together. However, I don't think you are yet ready to learn from me. I can tell you this though; A few days ago something entered this world besides you. That something has probably been behind whatever is going wrong. However, now that you have caught on, these things will stop. It will retreat and bide it's time. You have plenty of time to get used to your new body and new home. Once you are confident in your new form, come to me. I will teach you then."
I gave him a plain look, "What you're saying is that I came here to figure out what was causing the ponies to act weird, but by doing so I solved the problem?"
"Yes."
"So I didn't need to even come here?"
"Correct."
I couldn't stop myself in time. I brought my hoof to my face so fast that I knocked myself out.
