Finding Freedom
Chapter 27
Previous ChapterNext ChapterLuna didn't fire a spell, but a large blast of purplish energy. It hit the ground before us and we were all sent flying. Comically so actually. If I had the time I probably would've laughed at our resemblance to bowling pins. I fell to the ground, ad several thumps could be hear behind me.
I got up and looked around, everyone else was shakily getting to their feet and looking at Luna. She prepared another shot, and I flew up and around her. Apparently I was her target, as she turned and fired another beam at me. It hit me and I went flying. I hit a tree, but oddly, I didn't feel any pain. I got up, and seeing that Luna was once again charging her horn, dived at her.
I tackled her, with minimum effect. She was much bigger than me, but I still managed to stagger her and make her lose focus. I flew away from her as she recovered. I flew next to Twilight and Lunar who were currently standing in the open.
"What's the plan?"
"What are you talking about? I don't even know what's going on!"
Actually, neither did I now that she mentioned it. I was more of a act now plan later guy. We were interrupted by another beam nearly hitting up. It landed in front of us and threw us in different directions. I landed on top of the house, bounced off and hit the ground. Once again, I felt no pain, and in seconds was on my feet.
"I've got a plan guys! You do the elements thing, and me and Lunar will distract her."
Lunar seemed distressed at the plan, "Wait I don't know how to do that!"
Twilight ignored him and said, "I left the elements in the library, we'll have to get them."
I dodged another beam and said, "Alright then take your time!"
Twilight and the rest galloped back towards the library. I flew next to Lunar and said, "I need you to teleport next to her and kick her."
"Are you insane? Besides I don't even know how to teleport."
Apparently, we aren't very good at the counter-ambush thing. Another beam knocked us off our feet, and once again I got up right away. Luna hadn't moved and was content with just blasting away at us. She didn't even move when I flew around her, just moved her horn back in line with me.
I landed next to Lunar once more and said, "New plan!"
Lunar eyed me warily, "And what's that?"
I picked him up and launched myself in the air, "Attack from above!"
Lunar began panicking and trying to get away from me. I flew around Luna and narrowly dodged a beam.
Lunar shouted up at me, "I think we should rethink this!"
I laughed and said, "No time, now go give her hell!"
I dropped Lunar right above Luna, and he flailed his legs wildly as he fell. In doing so he actually managed to hit her several times. He fell on her, managing to knock her to the ground. I flew down to them and picked up Lunar and got away.
"Wow you actually managed to do something."
"Anyone else think that this is incredibly random? I mean when did Luna manage to grow three feet? And how did she know all that stuff, and what's this about a traitor?"
"I'll explain later."
"Wait you knew about this?"
"Sort of."
We were hit out of mid air and we flew apart. Apparently Luna was as resistant to pain as I was. Speaking of which, smashing into the ground didn't hurt once again. I got up, and saw that Twilight and Co. had arrived. They were all wearing their elements, and walked up to Luna. They began charging up the elements, and Luna who should've done something was still focused on me. I wasn't even bothering to dodge anymore. Besides it was actually kind of fun, being thrown through the air.
As I was once again sailing through the air, I saw a rainbow beam shoot out from the mares. The beam went in an arc and hit Luna directly head on. She was thrown to the ground and stayed there.
"Take that ya wanker!"
Our victory was short lived, as Luna got back to her feet and laughed, "Think that's going to stop me?"
"Well I was kind of hoping it would."
"Well think again."
So much for a quick victory. Now that she had stopped throwing energy everywhere, I had time to think. The voice was very familiar, like I had known it forever.
"I tire of this game, if I can't hurt you, then I'll just contain you. "
Instead of charging up once again, Luna turned to face the mares.
"First you six."
She focused her eyes, and a liquid cube appeared in the air. It floated over the mares, and fell on top of them. Both AJ and Rainbow dashed out of the way, taking Rarity with them. Twilight, Fluttershy, and Pinkie were trapped in the cube. They pounded on the cube, but it wouldn't break. Twilight attempted to use magic, but nothing happened. Another cube appeared and trapped Lunar. I shook my head and started to fly. Turned out to be the wrong move, as I ran into Rainbow and we crashed into the ground. A cube trapped us in, and we couldn't break out.
"Well crap. That went well."
Rainbow continued to slam into the side as I sat down and waited. AJ ran up and tried to buck Luna, but Luna teleported out of the way, and soon AJ was trapped in her own liquid cube.
Rainbow turned to me, "Do you have any clue of what's going on?"
"No, I feel like I should though. It's like there's something I can't remember."
"Well you better remember soon, or we're all going to be trapped."
Rarity was trying to free Twilight, but to no avail. Soon she was also trapped, and Luna let out a deep laugh,
"I thought this was going to be harder. After all the spirit from earth seemed very determined. Shame, I haven't done anything interesting in years."
Luna was walking around us, looking at each of us. She peered at me and laughed,
"But it looks like you lost your will."
I would've flipped her off, but I didn't have fingers. I had to make do with shaking my hoof. I looked around, and something surprising caught my eye. Twilight was still trying to break through the cube containing her and Fluttershy. Pinkie Pie was bouncing around outside of it.
Luna turned to see Pinkie bouncing around.
"Ahh a natural chaos factor, now that is interesting."
Rainbow turned to me, "Okay now I'm really confused."
I replied, "I think it will be better if we just ignore everything that's going on right now. Right now we need to be finding a way out of this cube. Pinkie found a way out, so now we need to try."
We began ramming the cube, as Luna tried to capture Pinkie once again. Pinkie was bouncing around to fast, and Luna couldn't catch her. It was quite amusing to watch, as cube after cube splashed against the ground. Pinkie apparently didn't notice the danger as she was laughing as Luna chased her.
Rainbow was still trying to understand, "She doesn't even look like Nightmare Moon, so why is she attacking us?"
"I have no idea."
"How can you be so calm about this?"
"I'm not trying to understand what's going on, I'm just kind of going with it."
Before we could talk further, all the cubes exploded, sending liquid everywhere. I looked around confused, when I felt a rush of air pass by me. A tall man with flowing robes was standing before me. His hair was brown with a few grey hairs. He had a beard that was tied into a knot. He looked down at me and said,
"You forgot already didn't you? Well here's a little jolt to refresh your memory."
He grabbed the side of my head, and before I could move, I felt energy running through me. I was in a white place once again. I could see memories before me, back of my time on earth. Meeting Martin in the stream. Yelling at a disembodied voice. Then memories of a different sort flowed by. I could see me flying around, hanging out with Caramel. I saw myself hanging out with Fluttershy and the rest of the girls.
I could see the difference between the two sets. As a human and later a spirit, I was always rushing in. I wanted to find freedom from the mundane earth, and the horrors that accompanied it. When I arrived in Equestria, I changed. I had found a place that had been peaceful and fun. I wanted to stay there forever, and would've been glad too. I started to relax, and I lost my will to fight.
It was weird experiencing all of this. Like seeing my life from a different view. It reminded me of something though. I had found freedom, but I had left so many behind to die in the dust. I looked up to see two different versions of me, there was the human me, grinning at me as he hefted the plain one-edged sword on his shoulder. The other was the Pegasus version of me. He looked at me and gave me a smile, he looked two his left and waved at someone I couldn't see. Pure happiness was on his face as he turned around.
I had a choice to make, and if it had been a few months ago, it would've been easy. Now though, I had grown accustom to the happiness that Equestria offered. I liked hanging out with the Stallions, and even spending time with the mares. I had a ring to give to Fluttershy, and friends that would last forever. This place had become home to me, and I didn't want to abandon it ever.
On the other hand, I hadn't left Earth to just find happiness. I wanted to find freedom, not an enslavement of a different nature. I was happy here no doubt, but that was keeping chained just as much as the horrors of Earth did. I wanted to explore everything existence had to offer. I had wanted to free everyone as well as myself.
I looked at the two versions of myself and stared. The human me looked confident, and he was through and through. The pony version of myself still looked confident, but he was scared on the inside. However, the human me looked scarred, from experiences ages old. The pony me looked innocent, as if he hadn't experienced anything bad in his life. I closed my eyes and made my choice.
After a long time had passed, or maybe no time at all I made my decision. I opened my eyes on to see all the ponies hiding behind Morkar. He had erected a blue tinted half circle around himself and the ponies. Luna was firing a continuous stream of energy at him.
"Your lack of reason shows this day Morkar! You were allowed to live as long as you were deemed useful. Now you have actively struck against us, and now you must be contained."
"My reasoning is stronger than ever soulless being! I have been shaken awake from my long doldrums, I will no longer aid you or any of your kind. All of the souls in existence can choose how they live, and we won't let you make that decision!"
(You should probably turn on some epic music stuff right now. Not battle music though. It makes the whole thin seem ten times grander!)
I struggled to get to my feet, and as I did so I spoke up,
"I recognize you now. You're disembodied voice guy! You're the one who came here and messed with the ponies heads. You're the one who messed with my wings. You're the one who made Big Mac attack me. You're the one who took control of Celestia and Luna, and made them… well… You know what you did! You're the guy who told me to go back to Earth. Well here's some information for you. I don't appreciate those things, and I don't really like you. So I have one question for you."
I paused for dramatic effect. Everyone had stopped what they were doing and looked at me with open mouths. Luna had stopped firing energy and was looking at me curiously. Morkar's shield had faded and he was grinning at me. I reached down and picked up the one-edged blade from the ground. I hefted onto my shoulder, and a wild grin came onto my face.
"Just who the hell do you think I am?"
