Finding Freedom
Chapter 9
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAN: The story is now from Lunar's (Martin) point of view. This is where the story gets hard for me. My muse tells me to follow Silver, but the story tells me that Lunar is the important person now. So were going to follow the story because that's what the people want. So this might take longer as I'm fighting writers block to do this.

I rose bright and early with the sun. My new mailbag was ready to go, but it smelled like breakfast was ready. I followed my nose to the kitchen were Twilight was already eating. She was using magic to control a fork and knife, something that I needed to learn.
"Oh hey Twilight, did you make breakfast?"
"Who me? Oh no I'm terrible in the kitchen. Spike always cooks, he's pretty good too."
A chef's hat huffed at that statement. Spike who was wearing a rather large chef's hat, was too small to be seen from behind the counter. His hat bobbed up and down as he jumped on various stools to reach the counter.
Spike motioned me to sit down "You're in the way, but now that your up would you like pancake?"
I went to sit down, glancing at Twilight to make sure she didn't object. "Uh, sure, but just one."
Spike handed me a pancake on a plate and I set it on the table. I looked over at Twilight again, who was still levitating the fork and knife. When she wasn't looking I shoved the entire thing in my mouth. She turned and looked at me and giggled. My cheeks were full with pancake, and I'm sure I looked ridiculous.
"Well that's one way of doing it, but you reminded me. You don't know how to use magic do you?"
Mouth still full of pancake, I nodded.
"Well when you're done with your route I can help teach you the basics, or if you prefer, there are plenty of books on the subject."
I swallowed, "You would? That's great, I can't wait!"
She smiled, "I thought so, also some more important news. Princesses Celestia and Luna are coming by later to see you and Silver."
Good thing I had finished eating or I would have spit out everything in my mouth.
"Are you serious? The Princesses want to see us?!"
"Well you did come from a different world, that is pretty important. I've held you up enough, go on and do your rounds. I'm going to visit AJ and Silver, to tell them to meet us."
I headed to the door with my new bag across my back. "Alright, I'll see you later."
First stop was the post office, where I would get all the letters for the day. I stopped by the office and greeted the receptionist.
"Hello, I'm the new mailpony, Lunar Crescent."
"Lunar, this is your first day correct? Well in that case you'll be shadowing Ditzy Doo to learn the ropes today. She's waiting in the drop off room, down the hall and take the second left."
She waved me off before I could even thank her. I went down the hall and took the second left as told and found one of the workers the arguing with Ditzy.
"I just don't get it. There's no place with that address, so how do you deliver those letters?"
Apparently I just saved her from an awkward conversation, because as soon as she saw me (sort-of) she rushed to my side.
"Oh sorry Cog, but I gotta go, this is the new guy Lunar Crescent. I'm showing him the ropes today."
She pushed me out of the room and closed the door behind her.
"What was that about?" I asked.
"Don't worry about it, nothing that concerns you."
It was weird having her talk to me while facing me, but her eyes weren't focused on me.
"So first stop is the Delivery Room, that’s the one around the corner here. We go here to pick up the mail and any light packages to be delivered. The stuff isn't in any particular order, so I usually go from delivery to delivery. It would probably be quicker if you looked through first, but I like taking my time."
We entered the room and two stacks of letters sat on a table.
"Now the first pouch in your bag is for the letters to be delivered to houses. The second one is where you're going to put any letters being sent out. Now that we have our letters we can go and do the route."
We walked outside the building and walked around the inner circle.
"The route I usually do is simple enough. Just do it one ring at a time. First stop is the library as it's in the center of town. There's never anything to be delivered there, and Twilight doesn't send letters to anypony. So we start at Sugarcube Corner."
We continued like this with Ditzy showing me what to do every time. We started on the second ring, when Ditzy stopped me for a second.
"I've got to deliver some things that you can't, will you be okay without me?"
"Uh I guess, but why?"
"Well can you fly up to Rainbow Dash's House?"
"Good Point."
"I'll be back to check up on you later."
So I continued on my own. It wasn't a difficult job really, the only hard part was getting letters in and out of the bag. With magic it would be even easier. I memorized all the letter addresses, so I knew who had letters and who didn't. I'm good at remembering things, I have a good memory.
The sun rose steadily as I did my route. Towards the end of the middle ring I started to see some ponies walking around. I waved to a few ,and said morning to the rest. In truth I was extremely nervous about them accepting me, but Silver told me to be brave.
As I finished the middle ring Ditzy finally came back.
"Sorry I took so long, I got held up."
"It's okay, I'm fine."
"Well now we just need to finish with the outer ring, there's usually not a lot for us to do there. Most of the time they get big deliveries of stock for the stores, so the Shippers deal with that."
We finished off the route, and headed back to the post office.
"Now we just have to drop off the letters we picked up, that’s the first room you were in."
We dropped off the letters and walked out.
"Well now your off, payday is every week on Friday. So what did you think of your first day?"
I looked up at the sun which was already high in the sky, "well it took longer than expected, but when I learn to use magic it'll be easier. It's a great way to get exercise though."
"Ya without you here it usually takes me until past noon to get the job done, but now that there's two of us we can go much faster. I'm surprised that you wanted this job though, most unicorns don't like physical stuff."
"Well, I'm not big into working out, but I do enjoy a refreshing walk every once in awhile."
"Well your gonna get one everyday now! I'll catch you later Lunar."
She flew away, and I started to make my way back to the library. I didn't even make the short walk to the library before being interrupted.
"Hey Lunar!" Rainbow was flying at me at alarming speeds. Thankfully she stopped before crashing into me.
"What's up Rainbow?"
"I was just wondering If you've seen Silver around anywhere."
"Actually he should be in the library getting ready to meet the princesses, why?"
Rainbow scratched the back of her head, "Oh well, I just wanted to get his opinion on some new moves I was trying."
Odd, I don't remember her and Silver exchanging more than a few words. "Well, he should be with Twilight right now. We can go in and find him."
I continued to walk and opened the door to the library. Twilight, Applejack, Fluttershy, and Rarity were all inside, but no sign of Silver. Fluttershy was laying on the ground….crying?
I walked inside letting them know I was there, "What happened?"
Applejack turned to look at me, "Your friend did."
Somehow I got the feeling that Silver was often the cause of trouble, even when he wasn't around.
"What do you mean?"
Applejack just pointed at a piece of paper on the table, "Read that."
At the mention of reading Fluttershy started to cry even harder. I walked up to the table, and found a barely legible letter.
It read: Something is going on here, I just know it. All the girls are acting weird, except Twilight that is, well and Pinkie Pie I guess. They're all being really forward, with me and only after 1 day too. Why am I explaining this, I'll be back soon. Why did I just write that down… and that? Whatever anyway, I need to apologize for my actions in regards to your advances. The worst I feel about is Fluttershy. Hand the letter to her so she can read it. Look I don't know what's going on here, but I'm sorry. I took advantage of your false feelings, hoping they were true. I gave into to my own selfish desires instead of realizing something was wrong. I wanted you to have feelings for me, so when you acted like you did, I jumped on the chance. Don't worry though, I'll figure out what's going on here and free you from whatever is controlling you. I'm going off to explore that giant tower, I'll come back as soon as I know what's going on.
P.S. Cut down on Spike's gem ration, I gave him a bunch so he wouldn't wake up Twilight.
I put the letter down and looked at Fluttershy. Applejack was trying to calm her down to no avail.
She looked at me and said, "Did you know anything about this? If you did then I…"
Twilight cut her off "Applejack! Lunar, did you notice anything off about Silver before this, anything strange at all?"
I shook my head, "If you hang around him long enough everything he does seems strange. I just want to know, Was what he wrote true?"
I looked at the girls and they hung their heads.
Rarity was the first to speak, "Well, I admit I may have been a bit forward."
I raised my eyebrow at her.
"Alright, I did think he was rather attractive, but I would never had been so bold."
Twilight asked the next question, "Then why were you?"
Rarity sighed, "It was like a feeling, or a voice in my head, telling me that I should go for it. That he would be perfect. I thought it was just my gut telling me."
Applejack confessed next, "Well ah'll admit I thought he was a bit lazy at first, like he didn't want ta work. Then when we were laying down I got this feeling like.. like he was the one who could make sure I didn't work ma self to hard."
Fluttershy was still in no mood to talk, and Twilight looked around once more. "Well why don't you girls look around real quick and see if you can find him, oh and get Pinkie. Lunar help me with Fluttershy."
Right, because I know how to take care of sobbing girls. Regardless we did as ordered. When the others we out of range Twilight started speaking to Fluttershy.
"Can you talk to us now 'Shy?"
Fluttershy calmed down a little, occasionally sniffling and hiccupping.
"Now did you also have feelings too?"
Fluttershy took a few deep breaths before speaking, "Well.. No… *sniff* not at first. I was just *hic* surprised when he took an interest in me. *Sniff* then he asked me to teach him how to fly, and I um… thought that maybe *hic* he liked me. Then… the next day he found me *sniff* and he startled me. He laughed at me at first, but not in a mean way. *Hic* Then he helped me up and um… reassured me. He made me feel safe, and then..um… that's when it started."
Twilight motioned for her to continue.
"Well it was like.. um a voice in my head. It was telling me to um… take him out to um… see if he really did have feelings. He accepted, and we um… headed to town. From there the… voice kept telling me to take risks."
"So did you have any feelings at all before this started?"
"Maybe a little."
By this time Fluttershy had managed to stop crying completely and looked up at us. I still didn't know what I was doing there, but from Twilights blank stare that she wasn't about to tell me. I laid down next to Fluttershy and talked to her.
"Look I don't know what you think about Silver now, but let me tell you something first. During my time with him he never once mentioned a special girl in his life. I don't think he really understands how relationships work. He can't face them head on and just twist them to his will. I think he did have feelings for you, but when you started acting like it was a relationship he spaced."
Fluttershy moved to speak, but I stopped her, "I'm not saying he's not to blame, but you have to understand why he did it. I think he really cares about you, but he got worried when you showed an interest back. If you did have feelings before this, then don't let this ruin what could be a great relationship. Both your hands were forced on this one, and you got unlucky. However, I think you two would be great together, so when this is all over you should give him another chance."
Twilight gave me a shocked look, "Wow… that was really mature for your age and a guy too. Fluttershy I think he's right. He talked to me last night. He said that he did have feelings, but was worried that it was all fake. I think if he does find something is going on then he'll blame everything on whatever it is. If you want something to come from this, then you need to show him that you really do have feelings."
Fluttershy didn't say a word. With one problem down, we could get started on the other.
"So Twilight, when are the princesses supposed to get here?"
"In about an hour or so."
"Well then why don't we just hurry to this tower and get him."
"That's just the thing Lunar. There isn't a giant tower anywhere near Ponyville."

AN: OOOH!! That seemed like a good place to end the chapter. So did I handle the emotional stuff alright? I'm usually not good at that stuff. Still not sure if I want to do a ship yet. Still in the deciding phase. Work tomorrow, but hopefully I'll ill get in one chapter before the day is over.
