Equestria's Storyteller
Chapter 2: The New World
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"As the wind plays it's music and I play my own, we join in a chorus of song. I walk this path that nature has set, hoping that nothing is wrong."
As he made his way across the forest he now found himself in, he sang a little song to himself to pass the time. He always made up little random songs to help him enjoy himself while he did something.
When he had first landed here in this strange forest, he had no idea where he was. And, while that fact still held true, he had come to a few realizations that helped him get over his newfound situation.
Strangely, back when he looked into the river at his reflection, and found that he was a pony, he was okay with it. Of course, this was after screaming and grabbing at himself multiple times to make sure all of him was in fact still there.
And lo and behold , he was still in tact. Even his glasses were still on. He checked his voice to make sure he still sounded like himself, and he was happy to find that he did.
The only thing that had mildly stuck out to him was the fact that he had a horn on his head. But, he simply let it slide and moved on.
He was more happy than surprised. All that time he spent researching mythological creatures and now he actually had the chance to experience what it was like to be one. That thought alone washed away all doubts and fears in his mind.
After trotting on his feet, now turned hooves, and tripping over both them, and pebbles multiple times, he had gotten used to movement as a pony.
And now, as he made his way through the forest, moving in a random direction and waiting for a sign of civilization to appear before him, he found himself wondering just where all the animals in this forest were.
He hadn't seen a single bunny, deer, bug or bear anywhere. 'If this is in fact a forest, he thought, 'then surely they must have some local animals here.'
Then he had another thought. 'Maybe the animals here are different than others? It is a new dimension after all. Or at least that's what that Discord guy said. I still don't quite get him...'
Just as he thought that, he heard a howl off in the distance. He turned in the direction of it and said, "Is that a wolf? I love wolves!" But, then, he stood there staring off into the direction of the sound before saying, "But I don't have time to look for one. I have to find some form of civilization first."
With that he turned his attention back to the path he had been trotting on originally, not knowing that he was being stalked by a pair of glowing green eyes in the bushes behind him.
After a while of trotting around, he realized something strange. 'Hmm? There are no birds chirping despite it being morning. Something's wrong...'
Of course he had been joking when he said that, so he just shrugged it off and moved on. Unfortunately, he didn't know just how right he was.
While he was trotting, a strange, wooden, wolf-like creature stalked up to him from behind, pouncing on him with a loud growl. He turned his head and saw the creature, and with mere seconds before he would've been caught and made into a nice meal for whatever this monster was, he galloped off in a random direction as fast as he possibly could and never looked back, too afraid and too filled with adrenaline to care.
He continued on like this for a long time, outrunning the beast by quite a bit given his sudden take off.
The beast however, upset that it's meal had gotten away after it had been so close to claiming it, had given chase well and was on it's tail as soon as it saw that it was slowing down.
And Prince had in fact, been slowing down. After his initial adrenaline induced speed had worn off, helped quite a bit by the fact that he now had four legs instead of just two, he had begun dropping lower and lower in speed and was now struggling to force himself to go fast enough to keep just out of the beast's reach.
He had been blindly running, so he had no idea where he was going, let alone how long he'd been running to begin with. But, lucky for him, he spied a simple town somewhere in the distance. He assumed that he had been going that way ever since he began his mad run and decided to push one last time to make it there. He would ask for help with this beast or maybe find a way to keep it away.
He made his last push for strength and emerged from the forest with a leap. Or at least it would have been a leap if he wasn't a less than four feet tall pony with no feet to grip the ground with.
He jumped and tumbled down the hill he had come upon when he left the forest. When he got to the end, he was sure he was either injured or bleeding, but surprisingly, when he got his bearings again, he was fine. Just a few blades of grass on his hair and tail. And a slight dizziness.
He looked around at all the homes and shops he saw. He assumed that this must be the town he saw when he was in the forest. Suddenly he looked back up to the forest. He had to make sure he wasn't being followed. Sure enough though, the beast was still inside the forest where it had been.
He sighed audibly and made his way through the city. Upon closer inspection he saw that all the citizens looked similar to him, or he looked similar to them now, either way was fine by him.
They were all ponies like he now was, but some were different than him. Some had wings, and some had horns like him, and still some had neither.
He felt super happy. Not because he was safe, although he was grateful to god for that. or because he was now in civilization, even though that meant he could speak to the locals and find out where he was.
No, he was happy because he had found not only unicorns, multitudes of them, but pegasi as well. This was like a myth lovers dream come true.
He made his way toward the first thing that caught his eye, which just so happened to be a giant castle made of multicolored crystal. He marveled at it for just over 3 seconds before making his way toward it in a leisurely fashion, so as not to draw too much attention to himself.
Unfortunately, his attempt at stealth failed when he was stopped by what was literally the strangest thing he had ever seen.
A pink pony with a puffy mane and tail had bounced -yes, bounced- up to him and was now in his face, hitting him with such a barrage of questions that he wondered if she ever felt the need to breathe.
"Hello, and welcome to Equestria! What's your name? My name's Pinkie Pie! I work at Sugar Cube Corner. You should really come by sometime and try the cakes! It's right...over...there!"
The barrage of questions and statements finally ended with the pony, now named Pinkie Pie, pointing of into the distance towards a cake shop she called "Sugar Cube Corner".
Prince shook his head to clear out his confusion at the strange pony's actions and smiled at her.
"Hello Ms. Pinkie Pie. My name is Prince Wild. You said this place was called Equestria?"
Pinkie had a look of shock on her face that could rival the most experienced of actors. "Wow! You're a prince! I can't believe it! I need to go tell Twilight! She's the Princess of Friendship you know. I'm sure she'll be super happy to know that someone like her -royalty I mean- is here!"
"Wait a minute, Ms. Pie.-"
"You cane just call me Pinkie. All my friends do!"
"Very well, Pinkie. I am not royalty. Prince is my name, not my title."
Pinkie visibly deflated. "So...you're not royalty?"
"I'm sorry to say I am not."
"Oh..."
Then, her cheery demeanor returned immediately. "Oh well! I should still take you to see Twilight. Then she can take you to see Princess Celestia and Princess Luna! I'm sure they'd love to meet you! Come on let's go!"
With that, the peppy pink pony led him the rest of the way to the castle. It wasn't how he was expecting this day to go, but he still made it to where he wanted to be. And, he made a friend. It was a good day, all things considered.
