Equestria's Storyteller
New Friends
Previous ChapterPrince smiled. He smiled more and more and more. He wasn't smiling because he was happy however. He was smiling because as adorable as the perky pink pony was, Pinkie Pie could get a bit annoying if allowed to talk for too long.
'Someone stop her. Please? Pretty please?'
This was the final thought that ran through Prince's boredom stricken mind before a purple pony put a hoof to her muzzle to stop her.
This pony, according to a very enthusiastic Pinky Pie, was Twilight Sparkle, alicorn princess of friendship and one of the three rulers of Equestria.
"Sorry about that. What was your name again?" She said as she looked at me.
"My name is Prince Wild." I told her in response.
"And you're sure you're not a prince?"
"Yes, I'm sure."
"I see. Very well then."
With that, the room fell into the most awkward silence in the history of all silences.
"So... Tell me about yourself. How did you arrive in Ponyville? Do you have family here? Were you always here to begin with?"
He considered his options for a moment. It wouldn't hurt to tell them the truth, but something told him they wouldn't believe him if he just outright told them that he came from another world. Then again, he was in a different world from his own altogether now, and based off what he's seen, it shouldn't be too crazy.
"I was brought here from another world by a creature who called itself the 'God of Chaos' or something. I think his name was..."
"Discord." Twilight finished his sentence for him.
"You know him?" Prince was surprised that what he thought was right.
"He's my 'friend'." Twilight said. Prince could've sworn he heard her put a sarcastic emphasis on the word 'friend', but he wasn't sure.
"Long story?"
"The longest."
They both sighed at the same time.
"Anyway, you said you were a princess? I'd like to hear more about that."
Twilight's ears perked up and she looked him dead in the eye. "Really?"
He nodded as Twilight began.
"Well, like Pinkie Pie said, I'm the Princess of Friendship. I rule Equestria with Princesses Celestia and Luna."
"And who are they?" Prince asked with a raised eyebrow. He was interested now. Particularly in the whole 'triple ruler' bit. It was much different from his world, which only had one. A very good one, mind you. But still only one.
"Well, Princess Celestia is the princess of the sun, and Princess Luna is the princess of the moon. Although I would know more about Princess Celestia, considering I studied directly under her while i was learning about friendship."
Prince nodded again, drawing the attention of Twilight, who asked. "You're not surprised that I learned all there is to know about friendship personally from the princess herself?"
"That's not it."
"Then what is it?"
"It just makes sense."
"Makes sense?"
"The student of a princess becomes one herself. Seems legit to me."
"I-i...suppose..." Twilight's ears perked up again, returning from their previously flat state against her head. "Would you like to meet them?"
He smiled at her and said, "I'd love to."
"Great! I'll arrange it right away."
He was taken aback by the sudden words. "What? You mean right now?"
"No, silly! Celestia's a princess! She's busy! We can't just show up at the castle uninvited out of the blue."
He sighed in relief. He couldn't even get out of bed in the morning without going back to sleep at least three times. He surely wasn't ready to meet a princess.
"We can still meet my friends, if you'd like?" Twilight looked at him expectantly. She wanted him to say yes. He bet she couldn't wait to show him off to her new friends. The first pony from another world.
"Sure." He said with a smile. What could go wrong?
Seeing that he was tired, Twilight offered to let Prince stay the night at her castle. Pinkie had as well, but something told him he wouldn't be getting much sleep if he had accepted. It broke his heart to tell the happy go lucky mare no. Especially when her mane deflated and she started making puppy dog eyes. Her lip quivered as well, an extra touch to complete her display of grief. Prince had to fight to stop himself from reconsidering and changing his decision.
As he made his way to bed that night in one of the rooms of Twilight's castle, he found himself wondering about his old world. What was happening there now? Were his parents looking for him? And whatever happened to that unfinished book he left sitting on his desk? Discord said he would have all the inspiration he could ever want and more here. He just hoped he was right.
"Good morning, Prince."
Prince heard Twilight's voice in his ears as he slowly opened his eyes to see her staring at him intently.
"Good morning, Twilight. Were you...watching me sleep?" Prince said as he realized his position.
"No! Why would I do that? I don't even really know you! I was just checking up on you to see if you were awake."
"Oh right. Thanks." He thanked her for her trouble and sat up in bed, swinging his legs over the side and standing up.
"Well, let's go." came Twilight voice.
"Let's go where?" he asked in response as he made his way toward the bathroom, which Twilight had shown him the way to while she was giving him a tour of the castle.
"Off to meet my friends. You said you wanted to meet them didn't you?" she asked, trying to confirm is continued interest.
"Oh yeah, that. Can't it wait until i'm feeling less like a snail with a limp?" He responded as he made his way into the bathroom and completed the daily routine.
"I suppose it can wait. You do need your rest after all." She sighed and left the room, letting you get your rest.
She returned an hour later to see him up and about. "Are you ready to go?"
"Yes. Let's go."
The two of you left the castle and made your way through town, all the while Twilight explaining to him the setup of the day.
"I arranged to have a picnic today. That way, everyone can meet you, and you can meet them without having to go from house to house."
"I see. That's convenient. Thank you."
"You're very welcome."
With that, the two of you made your way to the picnic spot where Twilight's friends were waiting.
As he entered the clearing that made up the picnic area, he saw five of the most colorful ponies he'd ever laid eyes on. One was orange with a blonde mane and tail, the latter carefully set in a bow. One had a rainbow mane, and still one had a pink fluffy one. There was even a yellow one with a pink mane, just like the other. The thing that interested him the most however, was the fact that they all had marks on their flanks.
One was of butterflies, one was of apples, one was of diamonds, and there was even one of ,of all things, a rainbow lightning bolt.
Suddenly he had a thought. What if Twilight had one as well. He checked, looking at her flank while trying not to be seen as some sort of weird pervert. Sure enough, there it was. Directly on her flank sat a purple six pointed star with other little white stars surrounding it.
'Okay now that that's over...' He thinks as he turns his head away from her flank to look over at her friends. He makes his way down to the clearing and sits down, looking around at all the mares. One of them comes up to him. The orange mare.
"Well, howdy! My name's Apple Jack! How are ya?" came her voice. She seemed to have a bit of a country girl dialect. With as much appreciation as he had for accents and the like, he really enjoyed hearing her speak.
"Hello. My name is Prince Wild. I'm doing just fine, thank you for asking."
And then it began.
A yellow mare walked up to him, shock and awe on her face. "You're a prince!"
He tried to stop the inevitable storm that was coming. "No i'm no-...!"
"Well, I've never seen you around before. Maybe you're from a foreign kingdom?"
This mare didn't know how right she was. Except for the kingdom part of course. Then came Apple Jack.
"Well, i'll be! We're lookin' at full on pure blooded royalty!" She bowed, only making things worse, as soon came another mare. the one with the rainbow mane.
"So, you're a prince huh? You don't look like much. I bet you're just pretending so you can impress us."
"Rainbow! That's not nice! Apologize right now!" came the yellow mare's voice again.
The aptly named Rainbow turned to her friend. "But just look at him. No prince would walk around without his crown! And where's his chariot! He's obviously faking it."
"That still doesn't mean you can be mean to him like that!"
"Ugh, fine. I'm sorry."
The only one to not jump him was Pinkie Pie. She knew the truth, and right now, he was glad she did.
"Um, excuse me?"
Now the mares were all arguing over whether his royalty was the truth or not. Their voices were getting louder and louder, and now they sounded like a chorus of noise and yelling. He had to stop this before it got any worse. Thankfully, however, before he could yell at the to stop, Twilight beat him to the punch.
"Girls!"
Everypony stopped and stared at Twilight, their fighting forgotten for the moment as she said, "Why are you all acting this way? Is this what we want to show our visitors? That we can't hold a decent conversation without trying to tear each other's throats out?"
Fluttershy shivered at that last part. Everypony looked down in shame at what they had done, and Flluttershy went up to him, her eyes to the ground.
"I'm sorry we were being so rude to you. It was my fault." she said sadly.
Prince smiled at her before getting on his knees and looking her right in the eyes. "It's fine, I forgive you. It wasn't your fault."
"But it was! It was because of what I said that everyone just started bombarding you like that. I didn't mean to but I caused you so much trouble. And after you just got here too. I'm sorry."
He smiled at her. She was a nice mare. kind too. "I promise it's fine. Don't worry about it."
"Really? You're not mad?" she said, looking up at him with hopeful eyes.
"Not at all."
"Yay!"
The rest of the day went by normally. The picnic was fun, you met everypony there, and you made a nice group of friends as well. Everything was going to be just fine.
