After Doomguy shut down The Well, closed the portal on Mars, and blew the Spider Mastermind's brain to gooey bits he was confused about what to do next. That is until the tether system was activated and he got pulled back to Mars.
The first thing he noticed was that he couldn't move, the tether trapped him in place. The second thing he noticed was that Dr. Samuel Hayden was walking out of the shadows towards him. He never liked Hayden, he always thought he was crazy like Olivia Pierce, even though he was a robot which he still didn't really understand.
As Hayden walked towards him he got angry at him because he was the only who could use the tether to hold him still.
"You've won - its over. You stopped the invasion and closed the portal. But it's come at a price - Argent, VEGA. This entire operation. You see I've watched you work - come to understand your motaviation." Said Hayden. But Doomguy couldn't care less much less pay attention to what Hayden was saying as he was staring into his slit-like eye, because all he could think about was turning him into a scrap pile.
"You think the only way is to kill them all - leave nothing behind - and you may be right. But we can't just shut it all down. Without Argent Energy it will be worse. I don't expect you to agree." Doomguy was now seething with rage which only multiplied tenfold as Hayden ripped the Crucible from his grasp.
"But with this we can continue our work" Hayden continued while he gazed the Crucible, fathoming at the powers they could pull from it, maybe even as much as they pulled from the Helix Stone. Doomguy was still trying to break out of the tether prison, but still to no avail.
"I am not the villain in this story. I do what I do because there is no choice." Hayden said forcefully.
"Rerouting tether coordinates...complete." Notified the computer. But in his haste Hayden had started putting in the coordinates in manually, before Doomguy had returned, and even though he is a robot, his mind was created from a human. And like humans often do he made a mistake.
"Our time is up." Hayden simply stated. Doomguy had because of his failure decided to stop trying to break free, and instead started to listen to what Hayden, and more specifically the computer were saying. Once he heard the computer he was actually nervous, because in his mind he knew he would be sent back to hell, but this time with no way back. While he did think it would be fun for a while as it often is, he knew he would eventually run out of ammo and die.
"I can't kill you - but I won't have you standing in our way." Hayden said as he activated the crucible in a new, different way. Instead of just the small blades coming of it, a large Argent blade came from it which split into two spikes sticking out to the sides at the top. The blade was also covered from top to bottom in runes from Hell.
"Until we see each other again." 'Yeah' Doomguy thought 'Because I'm gonna rip you apart, then put you back together, then rip you apart again.' But before he could continue his murderous thoughts he felt the tether system activating. But before it reached full power his armor blared warnings on his HUD, and the VEGA backup chip he had installed in his armor had told him that it was malfunctioning. He then felt like he was being ripped apart from the inside. He felt like him arms were ripped off and then shoved back in place, to put it lightly he was in an excruciating amount of pain, and subsequently blacked out.
Dr. Hayden also heard the computer notify him of a malfunction. He got one last look at the Doom Marine. "Hmm, suppose we won't then." And continued to walk away. Thinking of hundreds of new ways he could use the Crucible for "the betterment of humanity". But in his mind there was a small part the knew, eventually, he would have to deal with the Doom Marine, and that he would need an army to do it.
Doomguy woke up on the floor in a strange place. He was confused but mostly he was in pain. His brain felt like it was being erased and built from the ground up. He felt new memories being added and old ones disappear. After about of five minutes of rolling around on the floor clutching his head and yelling in pain, it stopped. God was Doomguy thankful for that. It was then that he actually got a good look around. He was in a small room with a stone floor, and stone walls. Then he noticed there weren't any windows. His first thought was that he was in some sort of prison (wouldn't be the first time) but when he looked down there were his weapons and his Praetor Suit. 'So not a prison that's a relief, but I still don't know where I am.' He thought. He then noticed what he was wearing, his old self would have thrown up at the sight, but there was something stopping him. He was wearing a plain white shirt and denim jeans, he didn't know what it was but he actually like the normal clothes he was wearing.
"Where the hell am I?" He said. It definitely wasn't hell because the stone looked normal, it wasn't red and covered in blood and bones. "Okay so the tether didn't work, there was the warnings and then -" before he finished he rushed over to his suit and checked for VEGA's backup chip. He felt a wave of relief wash over him when he saw it was right were he left it. "Oh thank god."
VEGA was the only person he liked on Mars. He hated Olivia for obvious reasons. And he hated Samuel because he acted like he was always right, and told Doomguy what to do, which he really hated. But VEGA was always there with him, even to the bitter end. He would give him advice and even highlight points of interest when he was fighting demons. Which is why he didn't want to destroy VEGA, and made a backup of him which could be loaded into his Praetor Suit.
He then noticed a note next to all his stuff, it was addressed to him.
'Dear Doomguy,
Welcome to your new home! Sorry for the sliiiight rewrite of your brain but for this situation it was best. Now you are probably confused and want to know where you are. Well for where you are you just have to find that out yourself. As for your weapons and armor put them in the closet to the right and lock it (the people here don't take to kindly to behemoths walking around in full body armor with a shotgun) with the key in front of it, and try to not let anyone into this basement, unless you trust them enough to know your past, and the things you've done. Upstairs in the master bedroom are more detailed instructions. Oh and make yourself look nice, after all tomorrow is you first day on the job.
From,
Your friendly, neighborhood Daedric prince of madness, AKA Sheogorath
P.S. your job is at a high school.
P.P.S. your new name is John Kane'
After reading those last parts Doomguy was just pissed, the thing he hated more than Hell and all the demons was school. 'I swear to fucking god if I'm a math teacher' but before he broke/ripped apart/murdered/punched anything he decided to do what the letter told him. So he put away all his stuff in the closet, locked it, and made his way upstairs.
When he got out of the basement he noticed just how nice this new house was. 'Well at least they know how to make someone feel right at home.' He laughed internally at his poor joke and carried on.
When he got upstairs he had to go through two other rooms to find the bedroom. But at least now he knows he has a bathroom, and an office upstairs. When he got in the bedroom the first thing he noticed was how big the bed actually was. If he laid down on it there would be at least a foot of extra room at the back, and room for at least three more people on it. He then noticed the note lying on the nightstand, and picked it up and started to read.
'Well at least you can follow directions easy enough. Anyway in the dresses behind you will find some pairs of clothes. Top drawer is casual (wear those at home), middle is business casual (wear those to work), bottom is fancy (wear these only if you want to impress someone, but I'm sure you won't really care. I also want to see you in a tux, it will be hilarious.) Well work starts tomorrow, you're the new secretary (you're welcome for not making you a teacher), get there by 7:45 am and you HAVE to stay until at least 3:30 pm. Well good luck I can already tell you'll need it. This is the last help you'll get from me, but don't worry I'll still be watching you (it wouldn't be fun if I didn't)
From,
Sheogorath'
'Well at least I'm not a teacher.' Thought John. 'And I don't get some shitty name like Melvin, or Frank. Well it can't be all that bad could it?' As he thought this the last thoughts of revenge against Hayden dispersed into the very back of his mind along with all his thoughts of killing everything he sees. He noticed the sun going down and figured tomorrow he would wake up early and start a morning routine. But what he didn't know was the first thing about working at a school. But that thought didn't plague him, as he was really tired so he just flopped into bed and fell asleep.
