Chapters Noella 1: A Paradise of Persona
A Decade gone, A Decade to return
A fabled Reunion
"Arrival from the Everfree Gardens, gather your belongings and begin boarding shortly...repeat...Arrival from the Everfree Gardens." called the angelic announcer to those waiting for the train. Those looking to travel knew this was the only way to get around, else they would be forced to brave the beautiful yet treacherous world. "Please stay clear of the doors and have a nice day. Welcome to Ponyville Central."
The doors finally opened and people began piling in and out of the trains. Our focus falls to a young purple dragon wearing a traditional black kung fu jacket and pants.
Shoes? Hahahaha! No one in this society wears shoes, ponies mostly and maybe a select few.
Slowly, he steps out in shock and awe, a small but majestic red phoenix sitting upon his shoulder. He kept his bag to his side and walked a few feet before looking back at the train. "I can't believe how much this place had changed." And changed it has, once upon a time, the world knew nothing of technology. They used conventional ways to get around in the form of walking and wagons. Technology was discovered soon after the War of Noelle which took place 100 years ago.
Strange, wouldn't it be called the War of Noella? If that's what you're thinking then you must be curious to know what took place. In due time, the war will come into play, more ways than one. Technology, however, in this world isn't so much technology. Let's let this young one find out more.
He awed at the train and it's slick but simple appearance. The pure white car was basically a stretched oval with straight sides. The only thing to paint the sides were pictures of the famed Dusk sisters, Celestia the white angel and Luna the shadow princess. Inside was a silver walled interior with blue seats, nothing special to anyone, except for our young dragon. He observed a inch of the train he could, including the way it ran. No engine, no coal to burn, instead there lay a conductor on board who would give the train a slight magical shock to get moving. It was basically the same for all technology, a slight magical shock and it would spring to life unlike anything anyone's ever seen. "Excuse me, would you happen to be know where....Oh my, it is you mister Spike."
Spike turned to face the conversation and was greeted with a familiar face. "Fluttershy?"
"It's nice to see you too. I have to say, I did not recognize for a moment. It's been quite some time since we've seen each other."
"No kidding, I missed the nicest pony in all of Noella."
"Oh....um." Quickly she cowered behind her sleeves as a blush ravaged her cheeks. "T-thank you."
"So what are you doing here? I thought you'd be in Rose Village with all the animals."
"Yes, I was there just recently but Twilight apparently needed a little bit of help around the clinic. Actually, she asked me escort you there."
"Isn't it in the same place?"
"You've been gone since you were five years old Spike. In these last ten years, things have changed dramatically. Especially you, look at how you've grown."
"I haven't gotten that much bigger have I?"
"I can't call you my little dragon any more it would seem. Shall we?"
"Right."
Fluttershy and Spike exited the train station via the long set of stairs leading down into the city. Two giant doors lay in their path and as they pushed them open, Spike's eyes grew wide with both a mix of excitement and curiosity. The homes looked as if they had been pulled from Chinese culture itself, exotic looking roofs with lanterns hanging from the corners, circle openings to enter the front yard where luscious green gardens and rocks sat upon small ponds and streams of water. One even had a variety of colorful violets and roses while another had a dash of lime green roses and tulips. The concrete was decorated with with stone bricks, each outlined into it's own square. From where they sat, the station was behind them straight down the middle of a cul-de-sac like street. In the middle of the circle sat a fountain with a crystal blue pillar spouting water from it's center. The water would then trickle down to the large body of water below and follow the current down the street out of cul-de-sac creating a small canal that split the street in two. "Wow, this is beautiful. This is what happened after I left?"
"Oh yes. It's quite the site, isn't it?"
"Last time I was here, things weren't so vibrant. I remember people looking sad and barely being able to get by. I think that's also when Twilight had the most business."
"Those were dark times Spike. The city just wasn't sure on how things would be handled. We did, however, find our ray of hope."
'What do you mean?"
"Someone new stepped into the shoes of princess, she was quite influential in her speech."
"Speech?"
"Yes, the rules no longer apply to just the royal family. Anyone can become a prince or princess if they meet the requirements. They must have good intentions for the city and know exactly how they plan to accomplish it. The current princess won and before we knew it, turned the entire city around in just a few months. Of course, we were unsure of her but she came through none the less."
"Wonder how she did it?"
"No one knows really. We should get going, Twilight is going to get a bit impatient. Oh by the way, who's the little guy?"
"Her name is Philomena."
"Oh it's a she, I'm sorry. Seems she's taken a liking to just casually sitting on your shoulder there."
"Oh yea, we've been together for some time now. Two years ago in Everfree Gardens, I found her in the forest injured, at least that's what I thought, I hadn't actually seen a phoenix ever before so I thought she need help. After I took her in and started taking her in, I began to realize that she was very young like a baby, she didn't know how to reignite just yet. Must have been a week before I decided to try something different."
"Different."
"I....I um....sung to her....a song from before I left. Next thing I know, she up to full health and we've been together ever since.
"That is quite the a tale Spike, music to my ears actually. It's been too long since I've heard such a connection between Nature and ourselves. Last things I remember were attacks on a poor family in the west."
"The Wilds you mean."
"Indeed. So vibrant and beautiful yet so dangerous and uninhabited. Anyway, come along now, her clinic is a quite a ways from here to the right."
The walk there had Spike on the verge of blowing his top with excitement, things changed for the better so drastically. One block had homes 4 times the size of the any regular home where gardens looked like literal forest, another had shops selling the most expensive and exotic food Noellan kind could find, one even was packed with kids looking at the newest toys for their amusement. "This place got a serious upgrade, I should have come back earlier."
"I...um.."
Spike looked at her with concern as she turned away to stare off into space. "What's up Fluttershy?"
"N-nothing Spike, nothing at all. We're almost there by the way."
"Are't we heading to the edge of the city?"
"Yes, Twilight choose a rather secluded spot for her Clinic this time." After a few minutes, Fluttershy pointed to the 3 story building partially camouflaged by a group of trees. There was a concrete path leading up to a large circle where a benches sat next to a large circle hole with a pond in it. Both Spike and Fluttershy circled the pond and proceeded up the straight path to the building. Fluttershy politely knocked and waited for the door to open. "Twilight, you in there? I brought a special guest."
The door opened with no one at the handle and the two strolled inside. Inside was comforting sight. A desk sat in front of them right of a set of stairs. Adjacent to the desk was large room with a table and and large bookshelf's. "Is it a patient?!" she yelled from upstairs.
"No not exactly."
"Be there in a sec." And a second it was before she suddenly appeared in a flash of purple light. "Now how may I help you......Spike?" she said in shock.
"Hey Twilight, long time no seauagh!"
Before he knew it, Twilight was wrapping him in his embrace. Her tears wetting the shoulder of his shirt. "It's so good to see you Spike!"
"I missed you too Twilight."
After a uncomfortable amount of hugging time, Twilight finally released her grip and wiped a tear from her eye. "You guys really changed alot didn't you? I mean look at you Twi."
"Oh don't be flatterer Spike. It may cause some unexpected side effects."
"I'm only 15 Twilight. I don't think society would be ok with whatever is going on inside your head."
"I was just saying Spike, you have grown to be very handsome. Before we continue though, quick what size are you?"
"Size um....medium, maybe large."
"Perfect. Give me a sec." Within a blink, Twilight was gone but within another she was back. "Quick put this on."
"Wait a minute, don't you want to catch up?"
"This reunion can't be perfect unless you're wearing exactly what I envisioned. Here I'll help!"
"Twilight wait!"
Twilight took off in a burst of speed, so fast in sent papers sitting on a desk next to her into a frenzy. Impossibly, she stripped spike of his clothes and outfitted him with her envisioned ones. In the craziness, Philomena hovered above until she was done then simply landed upon his arm. "There it's perfect."
"You think so."
"She seems to thinks so." Twilight said pointing to the bird now rubbing her beak against Spike. "Take a look in the mirror why don't you?"
Conveniently, there sat a full body mirror behind the desk, probably so Twilight could sure her clothes were even every minute of every day. Spike took his place in front of it and smiled. "Wow, where did you get these?"
"I made them."
"Wait what? You didn't even know I was coming."
"Oh no no no, not recently, ten years ago."
"H-how?! That doesn't even sound possible."
"I measured you as a child and predicted what size you would be." At this point even Fluttershy was dumbfounded. "Why, does it feel a little off?"
Um....you know what, it's perfect. I'm just going to forget that you had this made ten years ago and it fits."
"Neat I guess. Enough about the clothes, come sit down, I'm dying to catching up." Twilight motioned them to a table within a side room as they shut door. They took a seat on the small padded area beneath the small table as Twilight disappeared into the kitchen. "You guys thirsty?"
"You have no idea."
"Great, I have a new kind of tea to offer."
"Really? Wait....it's not going to be like when you found those random plants outside and decided to make tea but turns out they were poisonous plants right?"
"Oh no no, I was just a kid back then, now I know the difference between poisonous and safe."
"I hope so. I don't want to end up like those people back then." he said as he shivered. "So many tongue colors."
"Oh don't be like that Spike, I promise this will be refreshing." Within seconds she returned to the table with three cups of tea. "Introducing Winterberry tea."
"Winterberry? As in the berries from the north that never thaw?"
"Exactly. Turns out that if you brew up a specific concoction and do it just right, you can thaw them."
"You really are a know it all." Spike said as he took a small sip. "Wow. Taste good."
"Thank you." She grabbed her cup as she sat down and began to sip as well. "So what all has been happening in the Everfree?"
"Oh the stories I can tell."
"I'm all ears. Well actually could you explain this majestic creature to me?"
Spike put his claw up to his shoulder to which Philomena walked on. "Well two years ago....."
As spike continued telling that story, outside the clinic was a unfamiliar face. The figure crept around the pond and up to the home with such a cliche sneaking tactic, although she could have been more quiet. "Sneak." It would say as it took a step towards an open window. "So that's where the dragon went." It smiled and jumped off into the distance.
"And that's why she follows me around wherever I go."
"Even to the bathroom?"
"Twilight!" he said with a nervous blush.
"I was just kidding haha.....Um...the west..I mean the Everfree gardens..is it doing ok?"
Spike sighed and took another sip of his tea. "It could be better. It's nice and beautiful there but behind all that beauty, the people are still being....difficult. Tensions are still brewing with the east."
"Is it still over the same stupid thing."
"Yep. The east is more green pastures than lush forest and jungles. They both have agricultural advantages yet they continue to fight over it."
Fluttershy, as quiet as she was, finally chimed in. "Really? I must have been blind to not notice what was going on. What is happening with region of the west and the region of the east exactly."
"The east have plentiful apple orchards and grazing fields while the west have a wide variety of plants and fruits. The east want access to the exotic nature that grows over in the west as a way to finally differentiate their own plants and fruit. Not just that, but every year, there's a time where the rains come and in the east and west, they're the worst. The west has got tree cover which allows nature to rightfully supply water to the crops that time of year while the east, things could go better."
"They end up getting too much water?"
"Yep."
I'm sure you picked it up by now, the layout of the world in question. As you been experiencing, the south is home to the more nature oriented city of Ponyville. Here the people used to live in poverty but it soon changed. Now the city is more beautiful than it ever was and only has a small amount of technology. To the west lay the the forest and jungles of the Everfree Gardens and to the east, the grassy plains of the Rose Apple Acres. What's to the north you might ask, well that'll come in due time. For right now, the conversation is still going on.
Twilight finished her tea and sat the cup down. "I assume the people of the Everfree are more than oblivious to the situation?"
"They act like that at least. We all know about it, just never saw it as a serious issue. Anyway, what about you Twilight? What's been happening around here?"
"Nothing much as of late. I moved the clinic and that was really about it. I miss the good times before you left."
"Like the time you tried to heal that panda and ended up turning him into a bunny?"
"Hey I was young and experienced. How about that time you decided to take the clinic over while I was gone?"
"I...um thought I could handle it."
"There were more people with injuries than when I left, I don't think that was handled."
"Hey I was expecting Fluttershy to help me on that one."
Fluttershy quickly blushed and hid behind her cup. "M-me...I don't...I d-didn't know anything about healing at the time. Don't p-pull me into this."
Twilight giggled at her response. "Yea I think she knew more about animal healing than people healing."
Spike nervously sipped his tea as he responded. "Well I thought, technically, we are all animals."
"Well on matter of speaking, yes we are, but we're still different from the feral versions of ourselves."
"Would have been nice to know." All three of them laughed and continued their conversation. Spike talked about his countless adventures in the Everfree, how the people there taught him about the history of the world and the war. How they taught him how to traverse the vines and canopies of the trees and even how to smooth talk the ladies, a few unhelpful tips from the village elder none the less. "So wait, Rose village was right next to ours?"
Fluttershy nodded. "Right next to each other actually."
Twilight giggled at how oblivious Spike was. "I'm surprised you two didn't see each other the entire ten years. You were practically neighbors."
Spike finally finished his tea and sat the cup next Twilight's. "That sucks. I would have loved to have you there."
Fluttershy's blush peaked at that point. "Oh....um.."
"Calm down Fluttershy, I didn't mean like that."
"Oh my, that's not what I thought...no, not at all."
"You're a terrible liar."
"I know, don't judge me."
Twilight picked up the three empty cups and placed them in the kitchen. "I'm sure you're curious Spike."
"About?"
"Seems that a certain someone has been waiting to see you for quite some time."
"Um...who exactly?"
"Head down to the school and see for yourself."
"Right...where is that now?"
"Head back towards the station and turn left instead of right."
"I'll go I guess. Come on Philomena." The bird made it's way to his shoulder and out Spike went. "Nice to know that no one has really changed. Now let's see, back down the street she said."
Spike made his way towards the train station and turned left as instructed. Within a few minutes, the school was in sight. A giant set of stairs led up to the gigantic palace like building making Spike really take in the scenery. Next to the left side of the school was gigantic lake which sat next to line of trees running down to the end. Closer to his side of the lake though was a small grove of bushes in which he ignored and continued up the stairs until the sound of someone grunting got his attention. Spike contemplated whether he should check it out or not and before he knew it, his curiosity got the best of him. He jumped off the stairs and proceeded to crawl through the small entrance. After doing so, it was easier to stand up inside. He slowly made his way inside which left his senses overclocked. Flowers of a wide variety of red, blue, and yellow filled the interior of this bush along with the smell of sweetness on the air, like getting lost in a wonderland of nature. The grunting continued to get louder as he proceeded farther in until finally someone came into view sitting next to a small opening in the bushes.. "Geez, just can't seem to get that one tree down."
"Um...hello? Anyone in here?"
Spike heard a small squeak then a soft voice responded back. "Um....yes..who's there?"
"My name's Spike. I heard you grunting and thought you were hurt."
"Oh no no, I was just drawing a little something and was having a bit of trouble. I'm not talking to a ghost am I?"
"Uh...no."
"Ok good. Thought I was going to have to go and get myself cleansed. Uh...any chance I could see you to confirm that?"
"Oh right."
Spike stepped into the light of the opening and finally the two locked eye contact. "Oh, I know you."
"You do?"
"You're that dragon that arrived here on the train right?"
"How did you know that?"
"That's....not important. I'm not a stalker, you're the stalker!"
"Hey I didn't say that calm down. Anyway, I'm Spike as I said before. And you are?"
"The name's Kiki the squirrel, pleased to meet you.

Author's Note
When including music in a story, you try to find music to match the situation.......Do you guys know exactly how hard it was....to find comedic music without it sounding like a complete clown show, like really understand? It's impossible.
Beauty among no other
"Cute name Kiki."
"Oh stop it you. So what brings you to the bush stranger."
"Um...the grunting noises."
"Oh...right. Sorry about that, I was just having alot of trouble with one tree on the far side of the lake. It just doesn't come out right."
"Well why draw it then?"
"Because it's apart of nature, it must perfect."
"I never really got art that much. It just doesn't make sense to me I guess."
"You guess?"
"Yea I mean I just never really understood it."
"Spike was it? Look out to the lake and tell me what you see."
"Um ok. I see water and some trees."
"Now that's what anyone sees. What I see is a vibrant masterpiece made by none other than mother nature herself. I see a vast array of blue and green complimented by a variety of colorful flowers, nature untouched. This is how Noella intended the world to look, something that must preserved some way whether it be through physical preservation or just doing a basic drawing."
"Wow, I never really thought of it that way."
"Not just nature either. People, places, and animals all alike have a certain beauty to them that deserves to be captured, like that bird on your shoulder."
"You seem like a very optimistic girl Kiki, thankfully just like everyone else who lives here."
"Were you here?..During the times of poverty?"
"Yea...I was just a kid however, didn't really see it as much of an issue till now."
"I apologize."
"For what?"
"For letting you suffer for so long."
"What do you mean by that exactly?"
Kiki quickly realized her words and put a hand over her mouth. "Um....nothing...just sympathizing is all. Anyway...any family here."
"Not in particular. As far as I can remember, I was orphaned as a baby before Twilight found me."
"Twilight? Twilight Sparkle?"
"Yep, that's her."
"She is quite the famous face in this city. To be raised by her must have been an honor."
"You would think that unless you're the one being raised by her. She was honestly a kid herself, if not, a young adult. Her methods were by the book, she followed a specific set of rules for parenting and if it didn't turn out the way she read, she would freak out. I think she finally figured it out sooner or later."
"What a different side to Twilight. I always thought she knew what she was doing."
"She gets that alot. Any family for you?"
"Um....not really...well technically."
"I don't follow."
"I...don't like to talk about it."
"Understandable."
"So I imagine you were out of town this past days."
"Try ten years."
She almost dropped her pen in shock. "T-ten years? Were you on vacation or something?"
"Not exactly. Twilight's clinic was about to go under, the people getting sick couldn't afford her care. She began to heal for free and that's how she almost found herself without a way to maintain the clinic or take care of me. Her only solution was to send me off to where I would be able to survive, the west Everfree Gardens."
"That's terrible, having to leave you home just to survive."
"Oh no no, it was actually pretty great. When I woke up, I met these nice cats in the forest and they took me in. We honestly got in trouble more than we should've which made it too fun."
"I see, blind to everything that was here I assume."
"Basically."
"You were quite the lucky one Spike. I do wish I was you."
"Why's that?"
"W-what?"
"Why do you wish you were me?"
"Y-you heard that?"
"Dragons are a little strong on the senses you know."
"Oh..um...J-just forget you heard that."
Slowly her pen rested on her lap inanimate despite her constant love of art. Her eyes drifted to the ground and her bright and happy attitude seemed to be fading. "Are you ok? You look a little down."
"No..no, I'm fine. I was...just thinking."
"I mean if you need some space, I'm fine to go."
"W-wait! You don't have to go...I mean I was just thinking, it's not like i'm sad or something."
"Oh thank the angel. I do have to go though, I was kinda on my way up to the school."
"Oh r-really?"
"Yea, sorry for intruding on you."
"Wait....c-could I draw you."
"Draw me?"
"Just a quick sketch...please."
"Oh sure. Do you want me to like pose or something."
"Haha no, this isn't some kind of modeling event. Just sit there and smile."
"Um ok."
"Alright. Here we go."
She then did something Spike never expected. She took hold of the pen and and twisted one half. The two indented rings at opposite ends of the pen lit up with cyan light as a small wheel appeared above it, each portion of the wheel ranging in different colors both dark and light. "How in Noella?"
"Oh you must be surprised by this little old thing."
"That's just a pen right?"
"Well yes but no...it's hard to explain. See this pen has been with me since I was born. As a child I was not so great at drawing. Despite that, I couldn't get rid of this pen no matter what. It's special...almost...otherworldly. I learned to draw with it once I got old enough to really understand the artistic value of everyday life. I can't even explain it myself, it can create lines and color without any natural solutions."
"You never asked your parents?"
"Even they did not know. They just woke up and there I was holding it."
"It must have chosen you for something special. A bigger purpose that only you can fulfill. I wonder if you're gonna be some big hero or something, that would be awesome." Spike said as he closed his eyes and smiled at her.
Kiki's cheeks went rose red as she stared at the young dragon. Through her eyes, there was light radiating from this dragon, caught in it's rays was the feeling of absolute happiness. It was at that moment that she giggled a little before turning her attention back to her pen. Within only a few minutes, Kiki finished her drawing with excellent detail, of the flowers that varied in vibrant colors of pink, yellow, and blue, of the green shrubbery in which they complimented so well, and of the rays of sunshine that lit the scene so well, the final piece to set the puzzle complete being the purple dragon sitting among such a stunning scene as baby phoenix nuzzled alongside his cheek. "You like it?"
"Wow...it's amazing....."
"Mostly the pen."
"Sure the pen provides the magical ink and color, but I think the artist is behind the masterpiece. I don't know art but I think you did an amazing job."
"R-really...thank you."
"I have to get going but I hope to see you again Kiki."
Kiki lay distracted by the drawing as Spike gave her one last smile and proceeded out of the bushes.
As Spike's grassy steps trailed into the distance, Kiki couldn't help but stare at the drawing, a smile upon her face. He's so nice...maybe I can ask him to hang out or something. "Hey Spi...." Kiki looked completely dumbfounded as she frantically searched for him. "Oh man he got away, I am such an idiot.......at least I got the drawing." she said as she slid back down to the ground.
She seems truly happy about a simple painting. Wonder what she could be hiding?
Spike finally appeared out of this shrubs and proceeded back to the stairs. Quickly he dashed upward towards the entrance, in quite the rush, for when he arrived, the sight was outstanding. A large courtyard comprised of green grass with small streams looping through it, a large cherry blossom tree sat above the building that lay in it's peaceful beauty. Kids from left to right played in endless happiness as it was their break. Spike made his way through the onslaught of little feet and quickly went inside the nice little schoolhouse. "Hello? I'm looking for someone that might know me?" he said as the room seemed to be completely empty. "Is there a teacher or auughgh!"
"Spikey!" A high pitched voice said as it tackled him to the ground sending Philomena into a squawking frenzy.
In his moment of confusion, he caught a glimpse of the figure and assumed it to be his hyperactive childhood friend, he needed only to confirm. He turned to the pony planting her face into his chest and smiled. "What a way to greet someone Pinkie."
Pinkie slowly lifted her teary eyes to look at Spike, her hair deflated and straight with sadness. "You were gone so long and I didn't know what to do I was afraid you were going to never come back and I'd have to throw parties without you and everyone would be sad that you were gone and i'd be painted as the worst party thrower in the universe and all my kids would wonder why i'm sad and then the principal would fire me and I would be homeless..."
Spike quickly put a claw over her quivering lips. "Little quick on the trigger Pinkie. I'm back now and that's all that matters."
Suddenly her hair puffed back up and she was as happy as can be. "Oh Spikey I missed you so much!" she said as she crawled up his body to hug him correctly.
"I missed you too Pinkie, just wasn't the same without a party every single day."
Pinkie finally let Spike up allowing him to brush himself off. "Look at you, you've gotten so big Spikey Wikey."
"First off don't call me that and second, look at you, and you say I've changed. Although you don't follow the traditional dress I've seen the other ponies wearing."
"Hahahaha, silly willy, I hate dresses, everyone in the east does."
"Good point. So what's been going?"
"Nothing much just a party here, a party there. Oh did you know I'm the teacher here?"
Spike giggled then sighed. "I took a wild guess. What made you become a teacher though, I thought you were in the entertainment business?"
"I was...until that idea took a little sticky turn hehe...had to lay low from partying for a while so I took a job here as teacher, that way I could be close to my friends. What about you, where's my Spikey been these 5 years?"
"You can stop calling me that now."
"Oh does little Spikey Wikey not like that nickname. I think it's cute and deserving, especially since that day back in the Everfree Gardens."
"This is really not the time Pinkie." he said with blush coming across his face.
"Why so nervous Spikey? I'm sure you remember the day as much as I do. I wonder if you've gotten any bigger."
"Pinkie please, this is a school and there are children."
Suddenly her deflated and her eyes began to water. "Maybe that day didn't mean anything to you. Maybe I was just spinning my wheels and I used you."
"Nothing like that Pinkie I swear. It's just, we were kids and I was confused about alot stuff."
"I didn't mean to take advantage of you, I was just...."
"Pinkie, it's ok, you didn't take advantage of me. We were just trying to figure stuff out. You're still one of my best friends I promise."
Instantly her hair shot up as she sniffled. "Okie dokie."
Spike let out a sigh as he shook his head from dodging that bullet.
Oh my. It seems Spike and Pinkie had a little history 5 years after he left Ponyville, I wonder what could've happened. Hehehe, as if we didn't already know. Also, I'm sure you already noticed but in this universe, unlike her happy go lucky pony counterpart, Pinkie is very....prone to suggestion. Even the simplest thing can set her off in variety of emotions. Don't think I need to explain what happened after someone broke a Pinkie promise, boy let me tell you.....Oh am I interrupting?
"So why'd you come back anyway."
"Oh I felt it was time to just come home. I'd had enough experience on my own. I made some nice friends over there including this little cutie." Philomena quickly cooed at the slight petting spike did under her beak. "Other than that, I was just ready to see everyone again. Why'd you choose to become a teacher of all things?"
"I like kids. This smile makes those kids the best thing to see in the world."
"What about the ones who are bad?"
"Oh no big deal, they just get the treatment."
"The....treatment?"
"Yep." she said pointing to the kid hidden in the back corner of the room.
He was frantically rocking back and forth mumbling things like, "So much sugar..."
"What did you do to him?"
"The less they know, the better."
Spike took a step back as the bell rung for the kids to come back in. "Oh you have a class, I'll come back later."
"Wait just a minute my little lesson."
"What does that mean?"
"My kids are surprisingly learning about dragons today and I bet they would love it if they had a live one."
"A live one? What does that mean...exactly?"
"Oh nothing, just a little creepy humor. I think they would benefit greatly from hearing it from an actual dragon is what i'm trying to say."
"Oh...hehe."
"They won't kill you Spikey, they're just kids."
"Kids...sure."
Pinkie stood beside the board as kid after kid began to pile in, each and every one of them shocked to see their unexpected guest sitting in the chair next to the board. One child, a bunny from the looks of it came up and tugged on his pant leg. "Excuse me mister."
Spike looked down at the small bunny and decided, might as well pick her up. And so he did setting her upon his lap. "Well aren't you cute."
"I'm 15 thank you."
"Really, you don't look it."
"I'm a bunny, we never do."
"Oh...sorry."
"Quite understandable. Are you perhaps a real dragon?"
"Um...yes."
"I've never gazed upon one before, you're so.....exotic. You must be at least over a thousand years old."
"Actually in dragon standards, I'm about the same age as you."
"Really. You don't look it."
"I'm a dragon, we never do."
The bunny jumped off his lap with a slight smile and returned to her seat along with the rest of the students letting Pinkie begin. "Welcome back my super duper students. Before break we learned about the dragon's origin and struggles through time. Now we will learn about the details of a dragon thanks to my good childhood friend here, Spike."
"Hey kids."
"Now hold any specific questions until after the lesson, got it? Now to understand a dragon we must know the anatomy of the dragon."
As Pinkie turned around and began to draw a dragon diagram on the board, Spike noticed a few students whispering to each other as she went on and on. Suddenly one student raised his hand, a fox with a sly across his muzzle. "Excuse me Ms. Pie but how do you and Mr. Spike know each other?"
Pinkie shrugged an turned around. "The question was bound to be asked. Me and Mr. Spike are childhood friends from way before the new princess."
Before she could continue the lesson, another fox raised her hand. "Did you guys ever see anything cool together?"
"We were at the Everfree Gardens for quite some time, now if everyone would please hold..."
Before she knew another panda raised his hand. "I heard the Everfree Gardens are a romantic place. Did you guys ever date?"
"This is quite a personal topic of discussion children."
Spike laughed a little before opening his mouth. "Yes we did for a short time but this is really not the time for this kind of conversation."
Almost immediately, every kid in the classroom raised their hand and began firing out questions. "Did you guys ever kiss?"
Pinkie quickly turned her attention back to the board and continued drawing the diagram as a blush painted her cheeks leaving Spike to defuse the situation. "Guys, this really isn't something you should be asking."
"What was your first date like?" another student asked. "I bet it was so romantic."
"That is really personal."
"I bet you were such a cute couple." another student rang out.
"A lot of people said that but these questions can wait children."
You know how there's that one kid who always goes above and beyond. Well....I'll let you see for yourself.
Finally one kid all the way in the back, a monkey from the looks of it, raised his hand and asked the impossible. "Hey here's a question. Did you guys ever do it?"
Spike immediately jumped up and began trying to bring the craziness down. "That is way past the line guys, I don't think you wanna know that."
But it was too late. Soon, everyone in the classroom began instigating the situation while the monkey had his eyes closed and was laughing up a storm. "Come on tell us."
"We promise we won't tell anyone."
"You guys must have done it at least once."
While Spike stood on the front lines of the issue, Pinkie was now motionless. Everyone continued to ask away until pinkie turned slightly to look at the laughing monkey. Everyone except for the culprit jumped in fear as a large shockwave came from the board, a large cracked indent in it with the chalk in the center. Pinkie's hair had deflated but strands began to float as a magenta aura began to erupt from her person. Her eyes now remain closed as smile came to her face and she suddenly ceased to be there. With a small pop, she was immediately behind the laughing monkey who had no idea what was going on. Everyone remained still and silent but that one student continued to laugh. Finally he opened his eyes and looked around. "What's going everyone, why'd you stop? Come on that was funny."
Everyone started pointing behind him in fear but he didn't seem to get the memo until Pinkie cleared her throat. The kid slowly turned around to Pinkie leaning in close, her straight hair and devilish aura making him cower in fear. "I think you want to refrain from asking that question Mr. Wukong."
"O-oh Ms. Pinkie. It was joke...can't a guy just make a joke?"
"You don't seem to understand my dear student. That was quite personal, and it's widely forbidden to dig into a teacher's personal life."
"I-I'm sorry Ms. Pinkie...it'll never happen again."
"Oh yes...I'm going to make sure of that."
Suddenly, Pinkie held out her hand, a cupcake flashing into it without physics to understand. "No no, not the treatment Ms. Pinkie."
"I wish it didn't come to this Mr. Wukong."
"Please I'll do anything."
"Tsk tsk. You said that last time too and here we are. In my classroom, bad student's get punished....and boy have you been naughty."
"Please...I don't want to."
"Shhhhh Mr. Wukong, you brought this upon yourself. Students.....please put on your earplugs and blindfolds."
Suddenly that same bunny came up to Spike and handed him a spare blind fold and some earplugs. "What are these for?" he said as everyone began to put them on.
"Just do it, trust me."
Spike followed everyone's lead letting the last thing he heard to be the sound of the kid struggling. At least five minutes passed before the bunny came up and tapped Spike once. He removed the the plugs and blind fold only to see everyone shaking in their desk, Pinkie back at the board drawing, and the kid in question cowering in the corner mumbling, "Too...much...sugar...."
Dear lord what is wrong with that girl...you were blindfolded unfortunately so you were spared the horrors but....oh my god...so happy...yet so insane....I'm the narrator and I'm scared....how does that happen?
He wasn't sure what happened but he really didn't want to know. The day continued as normal until the bell rang for kids to leave. In unison, all of them shot out of the building and down the steps like little rockets before Spike could even blink. "My my, wasn't that an eventful day."
"Pinkie....what did you do to that kid?"
"The less you know....the better." she said with a devilish grin. "Any who, I guess you're heading back Twilight's right?"
"Uh...yea."
"Then let's super duper go!"
Before Spike say a word, Pinkie told hold of hand and rushed him out of the building. Within seconds they were back in front of Twilight's clinic. "How.....How did you do that?"
"Pinkie logic."
"Yep that would explain it."
Spike and Pinkie entered the Clinic to see Fluttershy and Twilight still talking it out in the side room. "Helloooooo."
Twilight looked from her conversation as did Fluttershy. "Oh I see you guys finally caught up. I've just been going over plans for the Clinic with Fluttershy. How was your time together?"
Pinkie instantly shot over to the table with that over joyed smile. "Today was great, I got to teach my kids about dragons. There was a kid who acted up however but I took care of it."
Spike hearing those words shivered from the mere thought of what happened. Fluttershy took notice and walked over to him. "Are you ok Spike, you look like just saw a ghost?"
"I-it's nothing....so much sugar..."
"Oh no, you didn't see her do the treatment did you?"
He nodded. Fluttershy gasped and quickly brought him into her embrace. "It's ok Spike, shh. Let that memory fade into the darkness." she said as she placed a hand upon the back of his head and began massaging it.
Spike felt the uneasiness go away as Fluttershy massaged his worries away. A slight knock at the door got everyone's attention before the door opened letting a familiar voice to Spike trail in. "Excuse Ms. Twilight, are you home? I realize this is sudden but I saw this dragon at the school today and I wanted to ask about him."
"We're in the side room dear."
The figure came into sight and everyone instantly dropped what they were doing, even Fluttershy who let Spike fall to the ground, to do a traditional bow. Spike wondered who caused such a commotion, and flipped over onto his back. "Kiki?"
"S-Spike?!"
Spike felt a slight smack to the back of his head from Twilight. "What are you doing? Bow."
"W-wait what's going on?"
"Did you do any research before you came here. That's the princess, show some respect."
"Princess...what are talking about, I met her near the school. We talked and I even let her draw me? She's a student right?.....right?.....guys?"

Shadow in the light
Everyone suddenly sat in shock, their eyes locked and the muzzle's wide open. "So," Fluttershy began. "You seriously never knew she was the princess?"
"Not a clue."
"And you're not surprised at all by this?" Twilight added.
"Um...not really. Even if I had known, I probably would've treated her with the same amount of respect I do everyone else."
Kiki shook her head as to return to reality before jumping to hug spike from behind. "So you're seriously not fazed by the fact that I'm princess?"
"I mean if you want me to do the basic stuff like bow, I'm not against it."
"No no, it's actually a bit of a relief. Getting the royal treatment 24/7 is a bit of a buzzkill."
"I promise that you won't get that issue with me." Spike said before he felt another smack to the back of his head."
"It's against the rules to treat the princess so casually Spike." Twilight scolded.
"Before you hit me again, she just said it's ok to treat her like a normal person."
"I refuse to break tradition Spike, nor does anyone else here."
Spike sighed. "I don't think you're going to get that kind of casual atmosphere here Kiki."
Kiki shook her head and giggled. "I guess this was expected especially after what happened to that last guy who did that."
"Last guy? What guy?"
"Nothing terribly important Spike."
"What did he do?"
"Let's just say he's been in jail for........10 years maybe....maybe more."
"For doing what though?"
"I'm going to save you the trouble of not letting you know."
"I see where this is going so fine, i'll drop it."
"Thank you. So big sis, I see you've been doing well."
Twilight quickly jumped up from her bow and spoke. "I'm g-glad you noticed y-your majesty. The b-business has been quite busy i-indeed. As of late however, things have s-slowed down."
"Why are you so nervous big sis?"
"Just b-being p-polite your majesty."
"None of that formal craziness sis, just call me Kiki."
"As you wish your ma....I mean Kiki."
"Funny as ever big sis. Aunt Fluttershy and Aunt Pinkie, you seem to be doing well for yourselves."
Fluttershy smiled and nodded before retreating behind her cute blush. "Um.......indeed I have Ms. Kiki. The animals were oh so delighted to see you at the gardens last year."
"Really?!" She said with a bit of fear inducing enthusiasm. "They missed me? They really missed me?!" Fluttershy nodded. "Oh I can't wait to see those cute little bunnies again. What about you Aunt Pinkie?"
"Me? Well....I've been doing great so far i'm teaching alot of kids this year who are really enthusiastic about learning although they get in trouble alot and I have to punish them with the cupcake treatment and I've had dozens of parents come in on account of their kids getting a fear of sugar and me being the cause and...."
Before Pinkie could say another word, Spike threw a hand over he mouth which surprisingly didn't stop her muffled continuation of the current long running sentence. Kiki giggled and made her way over to the table where everyone followed suit and sat down. "So Twilight.."
"Yes your majest.....I mean Kiki."
"You are one to follow the rules aren't you? Anyway, could we talk....privately...later?"
"Of course. Excuse me for not asking permission to ask this but.....how exactly did you and Spike meet?"
Well...I was having a bit of trouble drawing something and Spike was first on the scene to see if their was danger afoot."
Spike gave her the most annoyed look and sighed. "I came to see if she was in trouble. It was a simple gesture of being a good person, stop making it sound like a superhero movie."
"But it's way more interesting that way. Anyway, we got to talking and quickly became friends. Here, I even drew him." she said as pulled out a notepad and flipped through it. "See?"
Fluttershy gasped looking as if she might shed a tear right then and there. "Wow, it's beautiful. Everything is so detailed even Philomena."
"I had to make sure it was perfect, even the bird had to be. Where is that little birdy anyway?"
Spike pointed to the top of the room to where she was sitting atop a large bookcase. "She flew up there after Kiki arrived, that trip must have taken alot out of her."
"Awwwww, she's so cute when she's sleeping."
Suddenly Pinkie appeared behind Spike with massive hug. "So Spikey Wikey, what do you plan on doing now that you've caught up with everyone?"
"For the last time, stop calling me that and I don't know exactly. I was thinking of staying here maybe."
That's when Twilight lit up like a candle and rushed to hug Spike. "Oh my little Spike is coming home!"
"Hey calm down Twilight. You didn't let me finish, I said maybe."
"I want nothing more than my precious dragon to return to my side."
"Ok, save that thought. Actually, I was thinking of traveling the world."
Suddenly Twilight's beaming attitude became dark and dim. "..........Hahahaha, I could've sworn you said traveling the world, my Spike's become a jokester."
"Not a joke Twi." Suddenly Twi let go of Spike and took a few steps back. "After spending so much time in the Gardens, I realized how confined I stayed during my life. Not once did I ever leave the village when I was there and that got me thinking. There's alot to see and do out there so why not go see it all."
Twilight began to nervously chuckle, a twitchy smile upon her face. "It's time to stop the joke now Spike."
"It's really not a joke Twilight."
Her expression grew even more worrisome, even the fake smile she projected disappeared from her face. "No....."
"What?"
"I said no!"
"No? What do you mean no?"
"I.........I....forbid it."
"I'm sorry did you just say I can't?"
"You're not allowed to leave the city."
"Hold up. It's been ten years since we've seen each other, and instead of pushing me to try different things, you're still controlling me like i'm a little baby....no no no, you can't do that."
"Yes I can Spike. You're like a son to me, I won't just let you leave after all this time."
"Twilight I know you're a little against me leaving after finally coming back but as my motherly figure, you should be supporting me on this."
"You're not ready."
"I'm 15 years old."
"That doesn't make you ready!"
"Yes it does! What's your issue?!"
"I don't want to see go Spike! I just want you here with me!"
"Yea right, you just want to fix your little failure don't you?!" Everyone in the room gasped including Twilight. "What was I huh?! Was I just your little experiment?!"
"Spike no, nothing like that."
"Quit telling me lies Twi! I know you, if you can't do something right then you regret ever taking on the responsibility! That's what I was huh?!'
"Spike please...I had to send you away. This place was unfit to raise any child you have to understand."
"What I understand is that I was failure and you just couldn't have that around could you?"
"Spike you were my greatest achievement, you know that."
"More like your greatest mistake!"
"I love you!"
"Tell it to somebody else!" Spike said before his eyes shone brightly like green emeralds.
"S-spike?" Suddenly he bent forward grunting and panting, his hands glued to his gut as if their were some unspeakable force holding them there. Everyone took a step back expect for Twilight who instead approached him. Encasing her forward movement with a magical barrier, she slowly approached the dragon as if to approach a wild animal. "Spike?"
Just as she reached out to comfort him, Spike's eyes shot up within a split second. "Back off!"
Suddenly the imprint of claws could be seen across the center of the barrier as Twilight felt her entire person jump back and slam against the wall opposite the initial attack. Philomena as well as Pinkie and Fluttershy both rushed to aid the unicorn to her feet as they watched spike continue to growl and grunt opposite of them. Just then, Spike's appearance began to effectively change. His once small snout now extended outward accompanied by a set of sharp teeth as opposed to his two cute little fangs. His body effectively grew twice its size while his clothes seemed to fade away. Now standing a few feet above everyone in the room, he finally let the straining come to a rest as his eyes shot up to look at them. They stared at the purple and green dragon whose eyes stared them back, but like a glitch in reality, one blink and suddenly spike's vibrant colors were replaced with a pure darkness. He had no discernible features besides the spines along his back and tail. Like looking into a void, as if he was a 3d shadow. He finally took a moment to stand straight up, although with unusual motion as if unbalanced. It was obvious he was looking straight at them but it was still hard to say without anything to go by. That's when his eyes and mouth began to glow like a luminescent sun, pure white.
Fluttershy let tears streak down her face as she cowered behind Twilight. "What.....what's happening to him?"
Twilight raised her arms to protect both Pinkie and Fluttershy as she spoke. "I...I don't know. Spike, can you hear me?"
Spike didn't respond to this, instead he let out a almost demonic chuckle. Kiki finally took her place behind Twilight as well. "I've never seen anything like this before? Is it some kind of latent dragon ability that only his particular type can obtain?"
Twilight shook her head. "Latent dragon ability is different than this. This is something much darker. Quickly, everyone upstairs now!"
No hesitation was shown as they bolted up the stairs within seconds leaving Twilight to face this being of shadow alone.
What a unique set of events. While dragons do contain a natural latent strength, no dragon in recorded history has shown such a transformation like this....well actually, they never really had the chance to, of course because most of them were primal dragons, big and scary with wings and lots of teeth, that sort of thing. Fearing their imaginary assault on major cities around the land, the dusk sisters, Celestia and Luna, ordered their immediate extinction just before the war of Noella which in their eyes was successful despite the hundreds that lost their life in what was an assured victory until dragons unleashed the dormant potential. What? How did the sisters issue the order 100 hundred years ago? They may be beautiful on the outside but they are beings in which they have been bestowed great power and slowed aging processes, it's quite funny really. The real question is, how did Spike come along after their apparent extinction? I think I may have given something to think about. Enough of that however, back to the scary dragon in front of us.
Twilight stared this ghostly eyed figure as it returned it's own stare. "S-Spike? Are you....."
"Grrauuuh...."
"You're not a wild animal Spike, please speak to me."
"Auuggggg......."
"What...have you become?"
She took one step forward and that was all it took. Spike almost mimicked her movement as he cocked his head to the side as if he were curious yet confused. "Grrr......"
Twilight watched him closely. When she moved left, he did. When she moved right or forward or even backwards, he did exactly the same. She soon found herself walking towards him as he did exactly the same and soon, they were face to face. "Spike, can you hear me?" He just stared blankly as she repeated. "Spike, can you hear me? Give me something please?"
She reached out to touch him, the final straw it seemed. Spike suddenly let out a fearsome roar which shoved her back a couple of feet making her cover her eyes from the sheer pressure he was exerting. Quickly she removed her arms from her sight only to see Spike rushing her like wild animal. She had to act fast. With lightning speed, spike was already in motion of attempting to sink a claw deep into her. Like a water dancing goddess, she twirled out of the way of such an attack as something began to form in her hand. It rammed into the side of spike's jaw sending him reeling back."Grrrrrrauhh!" he growled as he looked back up.
"Enough of this." Twilight took her stance, left hand out to her side while another object lay under right arm, a small purple bo staff with gold plates at both ends. "If I have to subdue you," she said as the bo staff suddenly extended to a longer length. "Then I will."
Spike let out another loud roar before rushing once again. He furiously but strategically slashed at her. Each attempt was blocked each time almost a split second ahead. Spike sent his claw straight forward at her chest allowing her to simply sidestep out of harm's way. She took one step forward as she tossed the staff upward. Quickly she spun like a twister bringing her palm to meet the bottom of Spike's jaw sending flying upwards. As she returned from her 360, she grabbed the staff out of the air spinning it around her person before planting it into the ground like pogo stick and using it to deliver a kick to Spike mid-air. He crashed across the table sending dozens of cups and plates breaking along the floor. She retracted her staff and slowly made her way around the table. Her hope was that maybe that knocked some sense into him, boy was she in for a surprise. Suddenly, his claw took hold of the table for mere moment. What seemed like he was going to pull himself up unexpectedly became him slamming the entire table through the concrete wall. As the dust settled, Twilight extended her staff once more as Spike quickly made it to his feet. "Grruaaa...."
"Spike, are you in there? Please, I don't want to hurt you anymore." That same demonic laugh returned as his response becoming even more fearful as he continued with an increase in volume each second. A faint vibration began to form around him like a heat wave surrounding his body. He lowered his body to the ground as if to pounce leaving behind images of himself that dissipated as they met up with his body. It's as if he was moving far faster than what was shown that he was literally leaving himself behind. Twilight tightened her guard as Spike sat idle like a statue. Like a blur, she found herself being bombarded by his claws once again. This time unfortunately, his attacks were faster, not visually but physically. It's as if he was striking with one claw twice in two separate places at once. "How..hng..ha...is he moving so fast?"
Twilight was mustering all her skill to keep up but found herself soon overwhelmed by the sheer uselessness of physics. Where she would block one, another struck her arm, then her leg, then her cheek. His attacks were everywhere and striking every second. Finally Spike took hold of her leg in the chaos and tripped her before pouncing on her like a wildcat. She kept his snapping jaws at bay with her bo-staff but at this rate, she would give out. She prayed for miracle and so it came in the form of Pinkie's voice. "Sorry about this Spikey Wikey!"
Pinkie's foot appeared out of nowhere now entrenched deep into Spike's gut. More than a moment passed before the effects of the kick sunk in, sending Spike cashing directly through the upper floors of the clinic before dropping back down with a thud. "Thank you Pinkie." Twilight happily sighed out.
"I hope I didn't hurt him too bad. What if I hit too hard and he's dead? I'm a murderer they'll put me in jail and i'll spend the rest of my days rotting behind bars until an old mare tries to break me out and i'll become a convict."
"He's fine Pinkie, trust me."
"Oh alright!"
Once again within a blink, Spike returned to his original form unconsious. "Is everyone ok?" Fluttershy said peeking around the corner.
"For now." Twilight reassured. "May I ask a favor your majesty?"
Kiki poked her head out from behind Fluttershy assessing the situation before making her way in. "Of course."
"Could I ask you to look after Spike for a little while?"
"Hmm? Why me?"
"Well I assume Spike is more comfortable with you right now than me."
"Of course. Although, I don't think I can mend him here now."
"You can take him to my place!" Pinkie said as she rushed the key over to Kiki. "You're gonna need my key to get in though. I tried to get once without it and that did not go well. You remember where it is don't you?"
"I believe so, thanks Aunt Pinkie."
"Right then." Twilight began as she motioned Pinkie and Fluttershy to her side. "We need to do some research you two. I have a feeling that whatever just happened is a rare occasion. As one of the smartest minds in this city I know everything there is to know....Doesn't matter how long it takes, I can't let whatever this affect Spike longer than it needs to, else he may end up in even worse shape."
Noella 1: A Paradise of Persona
With no regret
What happened...Where am I.........the pain...It's so dark...everywhere... Spike drifted through the dream like space. His eyes lay halfway open and his attention remained unable to focus but the black void around him. Where am I...it's so dark...wake up...wake up. It was then that a blue aura began to fill the space in front of him. It looked as if to be outlining something but Spike could only make out the blue aura. The aura began to pulse with intensity, vibrating the entire space like a earthquake. Each pulse seemed to lure Spike back to sleep as if grant his wish to awaken. The outline began to shift and stir then....move. Suddenly Spike's eyes shot wide open and he was greeted with a startling sight. A blue eye, dragon in nature staring back at him. "Dra...gon?"
Instantly he shot up in a fit, sweat pouring from his forehead. "Hey there Mr. dark and handsome."
"What...the...Kiki?"
"The one and only."
"What did you call me just now?"
"Um...nothing. Anyway, how do you feel?"
He growled in frustration. "Feel like crap...kill me now." Kiki giggled. It was then that Spike surveyed his surroundings, this obviously wasn't Twilight's clinic. "And we're where now?"
"Oh we're at Pinkie's house. She said we could use it until you were all better."
"So...what exactly happened? I feel like hell, I'd like to know why."
"Well it's kinda hard to explain. You went a little...well maybe a little....actually you went completely insane. Tore up the Clinic and everything. Yep, black aura, creepy white eyes, the whole package."
"Black aura? Creepy white eyes? That doesn't sound anything I've ever done before."
"Anywho, let's not worry about that. Twilight went to the library to research such a condition and I have been tasked with nursing you back to health. I refuse to let my big sis down."
"Nursing me back to health? I don't think that's necessary Kiki, It'll most likely go away within an hour."
"Don't you dare deny me this Spike. I must do my job accordingly or everyone will hate me."
"I think you're exaggerating this just a little bit."
"Nonsense. Now you just lay there while I bring you a little something."
"Judging by the smell, I'm sure it's food."
"Don't ruin the surprise!"
"Ok geez."
"Now if you would please close your eyes."
"Sure I guess. Not like I don't already know what it is."
As Spike kept his eyes closed, he felt something rest on his lap. The warmth shot through him like a soothing bath. "Now open my dear dragon."
Despite knowing that it was food, anyone and anything would still just as easily get excited over food. "Wow, you really went to town in that kitchen."
The large tray lay in front of him was filled to the brim with food. 4 slices of bacon, way too much rice, 2 slices of thick cinnamon bread, and 2 sticky buns. "Sorry for the sweet overload. Pinkie doesn't really have a good variety of different food.
"Don't worry about it, I imagined as much especially when it comes to Pinkie. But really, thanks Kiki. I had no idea you were a cook."
"I only learned the basics, nothing special."
Spike then took a bite of the bread. Before he knew it, his eyes were wide open. "This...is...amazing. I don't think even Twilight can make food this good."
"Oh stop, you're making me blush."
"I'm serious, we should inviting you to Pinkie's parties more often. But where's your's?"
"My what?"
"Aren't you gonna eat too?"
"Well I did do this for you so I suppose not."
"You gotta eat something too, better yet," Spike said he hopped up tray in hand. "We can share your masterpiece."
"But I made this for you, I would feel better if you just ate it."
"Well we both gotta eat don't we? I'd rather starve myself than let you starve."
Kiki hid her face behind her hand as she blushed intently. "Um....thank you Spike..really."
"Just being a good person is all. Strange question though, what exactly are wearing?"
"Oh this? It's just a simple maid outfit. Although I am a bit concerned."
"About what?"
"Well see, it's a maid outfit at least in the front. But for some odd reason, it's kinda revealing in the back." She said before turning around. "You see, it like really digs in and I'm afraid people would be looking at my butt more than my outfit.
For the love of Luna, what the hell is Pinkie doing with that kind of kinky dress? Spike thought to himself as a blush painted his cheeks. "Um...well...I don't think....that's meant to be worn outside you know."
"Something wrong Spike, you're blushing alot."
"N...no..nothing at all."
"Can't you at least look at me?"
"I starting to think my life expectancy would be pretty short if I did."
"Pleeease?" Spike struggled to regretfully turn his head. As his eyes made contact with Kiki's, she gave him a slight smile. "Maybe you need some more sleep, you seem really flustered for some reason."
"I think I'm just hungry, maybe we should just eat."
"If you say so." Kiki then sat down beside Spike as they continued to share the tray of food. "So I wanted to ask you something?"
"What's that?"
"About you and Twilight."
"I don't think I want to talk about that."
"Well if not me then who else? Aunt Fluttershy and Pinkie are both with Twilight right now."
"Fine."
"Forgive me for prying but you two are incredibly close. To see you and her break into such a fight is a bit surprising."
"Well you can blame her for that."
"I would also consider the blame to yours as well."
"Mine, how is it my fault? She's the one who went all overprotective on me."
"I think she cares way more than you think she does Spike. You just being a failed experiment, do you really believe Twilight would be so cruel?"
"...No, I just thought in the moment, that maybe I was something less than what was perceived to be."
"You are more than that I'm sure. You must understand that this city was in bad shape. She sent you away to get away from all of it, the poverty, the riots, all of it. You are not a failed experiment meant to test her parenting skills. You are her pride and joy. No failed experiment is as perfect as you."
"You think i'm...."
"Um...just forget I said that. Anywho, Twilight is not without her faults, she is indeed overprotective. She doesn't know when to let go and that causes to cling to her past. I advise you to talk to Twilight as soon as possible but keep in mind these things. If you can control your assumptions and help Twilight come to reality, then you two will see light once again."
"You're really something else Kiki. You seem to know alot about a particular situation too which begs the question. How did you guys meet?"
"How did we meet?"
"Yea you, Twilight, and the girls. You call them sisters and aunts so I'd like to know."
"Well, it's a bit of a long story. We met about 8 years ago when my dog got sick. She healed him and we've been friends ever since."
"I thought you said long story?"
"Well...Spike I want to tell you something." Quickly she placed her hands on his shoulder with a look of sadness. "Promise me you won't tell Twilight or the others...promise me....please?"
"Don't worry Kiki, my lips are sealed."
"Well....while it is true that I was a princess, it's not anymore."
"What do you mean?"
"Well...My family came into the seat of power 8 years ago. We made the city a better place, helped finance it, bring it back to it's former glory as was the plan. But all that praise and power eventually seeks negative outcomes. My mother became somewhat of a tyrant to her servants. She demanded instead of asked, scolded instead of comforted, and even had one guy thrown into the dungeon for 10 years which he is still serving."
"For doing what?"
"She said it was for sexually assaulting me. The funny thing is he is the royal tailor and a family friend. If he was touching me then he was taking measurements, that or he was tickling me or being a basic fun adult is all."
"Sounds to me like she was getting a drunk on all of it."
"More like drowned in it. We argued like angry cats for weeks on end until she decided listening to reason was enough. She locked me in my room and ordered armed guards to watch my person." A tear dropped from her cheek, the memories flooding back to here like a wave of anguish. Quickly, Spike moved the tray as Kiki sat herself in Spike's lap and rested her head in Spike's shoulder. "I'll never...forget those days...sitting in my room with only books to read. I...w-wasn't able to leave or do anything. She wouldn't even send anything up..."
"You're kidding, please tell me you're kidding?"
"No food...nothing to do, just sit in your room and die that bitch!...The guards had to feed and bathe me. Eventually I ran away and met Twilight. If it weren't for her I would've been homeless....hungry....cold...and my father...because of her he's..... "
Tears began to burst from her like a waterfall as she dug her face into Spike's shoulder. Spike immediately was in shock having never experienced this type of emotion before, he didn't know what to do. Here Kiki was crying for Spike's comfort and all he could do was listen, he had to think quickly. After a few seconds of what was minutes of critical thought, He placed his arms around her and brought her as close as possible. Kiki continued to cry as Spike let her emotions flow into him. "I don't ever want you to go back there. Nothing can ever make up for treating your own child so poorly."
"You're just saying that..."
"No...i'm not. Kiki I've only known you for a short time, but no one deserves to receive or dish out disrespect, no matter how powerful they are. I'm here for you Kiki, as long as you as need me to be."
Without warning, she pushed Spike to the wall with a heavy thud before getting up and wiping her tears. She quickly made her way to Spike and looked him deep in his eyes, tears still pouring from hers. "Stop it...."
"Kiki, what are you doing?"
"I said stop it!...Stop lying to me..."
"I am....so confused."
"You think I'm dumb...don't you?"
"Not at all Kiki, you're really smart. You art really says alot about how in tune with the world you are."
"You are...so stupid. I'm not so pawn you can use. You think you can just sprinkle some pretty words over me and i'll submit to you."
"That wasn't my intention at all Kiki. I'm just doing what I know I can, being nice and caring."
"Shut up!" she said punching the wall beside his head, her eyes shifting towards the ground. Spike's eyes lit up in fear as kiki placed her other hand on the opposite side of his head. "Don't lie to me mother? You never cared did you? Was I ticket to royalty, just a ticket to be given away?"
"Kiki, this isn't the castle, I'm not your mother."
"You were never my mother. Locking me in my room for Celestia knows how long. I just want to forget you..."
Kiki stopped for a second before balling her fist already indented in the wall before repeatedly punching the wall in consistency. "Kiki, please stop."
"Get," she said a she struck the wall every word. "Out...of...my....head!"
Spike unintentionally turned his instincts on taking hold of Kiki's fist before it could strike again. She struggled to strike the wall again but found Spike's strength to be more than formidable. No success came of using the other fist as Spike instantly grabbed that one as well. He held her back until she dropped to her knees and fell motionless in his arms. "There's no need to cry anymore, she's not here to hurt you. She won't ever again."
The hour rolled by, the sun beginning to set and give way to the Twilight. Spike opened his eyes to the dimly lit home, his body still recovering from whatever happened between him and Twilight as well as Kiki's sudden burst of anger. He realized that he was already sitting up and to his surprise, in his arms was Kiki, soft and silent like a baby. Of course, she was still wearing the maid outfit and of course she fell asleep in Spike's arms with her rear on display. He was facing a true trial not looking down. Having shifted a little, she stirred, rubbing her eyes in her sleepy state. Her eyes were halfway open and drool trickled down from her mouth. "Spike?..."
"Uh...hey." It took her a moment to survey her position and instantly her eyes shot open. She wiped the drool from her cheek and looked up at Spike. "Oh Celestia don't hurt me."
"Why would I do that?"
"Um...emotions I guess."
"I'm not gonna go on a traumatizing rampage again if that's what you mean."
"Oh...good."
"Thank you Spike."
"You're welcome I guess."
"No really." she said placing her head upon his chest. "I should've known those memories would trouble me like that. It's my fault for not showing restraint. However, instead of running scared like I tried to get you too, you stuck by me. I'm truly sorry."
"It's nowhere near your fault Kiki. If I hadn't asked the question in the first place..."
"Oh no you don't. Don't you dare you try to blame yourself. I knew what would happen and instead of running the safe route, I took the risk. Because of that, you got hurt."
"My injuries mean nothing if I can't complete what I got them for? I said I'd stick by your side as long as you need and I meant it."
"You smooth dragon you." Both of you got up and stretched, working the kinks out of your system. "I'm gonna go change real quick."
"Got ya." As Kiki ran off, Spike took a walk into the hallway. Surveying the house, there were two more rooms to the right of the one they were in, most likely for Pinkie's friends to stay the night. Spike proceeded to the left where the window in the front living room was. Upon looking out, the horizon was dimly lit with orange as the sun proceeded to rest and everyone the same. Spike yawned and made his way towards the chair behind him. Before he could sit down, he noticed Kiki's drawing book on a stand nearby. It was open and on it's page was a drawing in great detail and color. A drawing of Spike and Kiki all snuggled together like a cute couple. Spike smiled only slightly. "Hey..um...Kiki."
"One more minute...just...gotta...get...come on you stupid tail...ah!"
Spike heard as a loud crash met his his ears. Quickly he rushed to the her aid and slid open the door. "Are you alright Kiki?"
He was met with a sudden realization that she was completely under dressed. Only her shorts were on and even then, she was struggling to place her tail through the hole that allowed her ease. Her entire nude form was on display as Spike quickly blushed. "Um...I thought you were hurt...and..."
"Get the hell out!"
"Yes mam!"
He closed the door and quickly returned to the chair in the front room. Minutes later, Kiki stepped out with a look of disgust on her face. "I'm just gonna forget you did that."
"I second that."
"Anyway, what did you want?"
"Well, I was gonna ask you about this sketch."
"What about it....what in the..."
"What's wrong, you didn't draw this?"
"It's a picture of you and me sleeping.....um...together. But we were asleep, who could have drawn this?"
"You think someone decided to sneak in?"
"Like someone would sneak in to draw a random picture of two strangers."
"Good point. I suppose it's a question for later then."
"Indeed. Twilight and the others must be wondering if you're ok so we should head towards the library as soon as possible."
"The Library it is then. That's...still in the same place right?"
"Yep, it's a historical site so we're not allowed to move it." Spike exited first letting Kiki lock up and proceed into the small garden with him. As if on cue, the minute they set foot onto the streets, the street lights sprung to life, Illuminating the darkening city with a charm of glow and moonlight. "The city's even more vibrant at night it seems."
"Oh, you think so? Well then I got something to show you. You ready?"
"Ready for what might I ask?" Just then Kiki took off in a burst of speed leaving Spike to figure out what was going on. "H-hey?! Where are you going?!"
"Get a move on would you." Kiki stopped very quickly before flipping forward onto a lamppost, then hopping up to a railing just below a windowsill, finally making her way up to the roof of the building. "You coming or are you walking?"
"You calling me a chicken?"
"Maybe..."
"You're a comedian I can see that. I grew up in the jungle woman, platforming is in my blood." Spike said as he took a running stance. He took of in burst of speed leaving a gust of wind behind him. He simply jumped up towards the lamp post and kicked off it, performing a front flip as he landed next to Kiki. "You were saying?"
"Not bad Spike. Think you're so cool then beat me to the top of that." she said pointing to the humongous clock tower in the distance.
"You're on."
"On the count of 3. 1..."
"2..."
"3!" Both of them went full speed towards the tower, jumping over various gaps and obstacles struggling to be the victor. Kiki chuckled before picking up the pace jumping over a gap like an angel as she landed ahead and disappeared into the streets. Spike continued to jump across the buildings until he spotted Kiki below going full acrobat. She jumped over a cart and slid under another before jumping and running along the side of the buildings. Spike knew his chances were slim at the pace he was going and decided to do something unintentional. He slipped onto all fours and his eyes shone with brilliant green light. His speed drastically increased as he jumped down into the streets landing on a food cart. It took off as soon as he landed on it allowing him to catch up to Kiki. As the cart slowed down, he jumped off and began running alongside the string off building opposite of Kiki. "You caught up? You're something else Spike."
Spike smiled as they both continued towards the tower. Upon reaching it, they both split up with Kiki taking the interior detour while Spike had begun climbing the outside. He latched onto each every nook and cranny as he flipped up the gigantic building while Kiki used her acrobatic nature to simply jump from platform to platform, gear to gear. When Kiki burst through the door next to the clock atop the tower, Spike had just finished climbing up, it was indeed a tie.
"There's no way you won that one?" Spike quickly shot out.
"I most certainly did. I definitely got through that door before you got up that ledge."
"And what proof do you have milady?"
"My paw...right here...on this general area."
"Who's to say my claw wasn't here first?"
"There's no one here to say anything."
"Then I guess it's a tie isn't it?"
"I guess it is."
They both stared at each other with competitive intent but couldn't help but burst out laughing as they fell to the floor exhausted. The night sky had finally set in letting the stars out of their blue cradle and into the black void of a sky. "Hahaha, oh man. I never thought you'd be so fast."
"I kinda figured you would."
"Where'd you learn to move like that?"
"Natural ability I suppose, I mean I am a squirrel after all. You?"
"Well I guess it's natural ability for me too. To add to that, I grew up in a place where moving fast was kind of a necessity."
"What could you possibly have had to run from in the Everfree?"
"Flooding sections of the jungle, selfish villagers, angry parents, Hostile plants, Giant insects, you name it."
"Interesting...wait, did you say giant insects?"
"Yep, there's a area in the Everfree where it's dark, creepy, and everything is weird, like Vines with blue spikes all over them or Giant spiders."
"That doesn't sound fun...." she said as she shivered a little. "Say, there's a reason I brought you up here."
"It wasn't just a race?"
"Come and sit at the edge with your good pal Kiki."
Spike pushed himself up from exhaustion and proceed to sit at the edge of the clock tower's dangerous edge. "Wow...."
"Quite a sight at night isn't it?"
"The city has certainly become beautiful."
"Wouldn't you believe it...that someone as evil as my mother could create something so beautiful. So many colors and lights, so much character and personality. It's as if the city itself has a mind and body to live by. It was this sight that turned my life around, the reason I started really keeping in tune with my drawing. Wonderful isn't it? I could stay here and enjoy the breeze forever."
Spike watched as Kiki closed her eyes tilted her head towards the night sky, taking a deep breath and letting it out. As she did so, the city became filled with various colored petals even to the top of the clock tower. They flowed around Kiki allowing Spike to really appreciate what Ponyville had offered his return. The amount of friends he retained even while gone like Fluttershy, Pinkie pie, and Twilight, and a new friend like Kiki, Maybe even something more. She is beyond beautiful and her personality is just so upbeat and lifelike. He thought. It'd be a crime to say Spike didn't feel something there, but they've only known each other a short time, it would be a crime to assume anything right now. "I suppose it's time to get to Twilight."
"Oh man, I was really enjoying this too. Oh well." Within minutes, they both descended the tower, crazily enough by jumping off and using buildings to slow their descent. Luckily for them they landed not too far from the library, only a few feet it seems. "Well, ready to kiss and make up."
"Shouldn't be hard right? All I gotta do is apoligize."
"Well you turned into crazy shadow beast last time so maybe you should explain yourself a bit more."
"Oh...right...that. And in we go."
Wait wait wait, hold a moment. So I know what you're saying, at least those that don't already understand. Aren't Kiki and Spike moving a bit fast. Well think about it from this perspective. Why would the amazing writer put such a pivotal moment so early in this story when there's so much more to explore about these characters? Exactly, it's not rushed at all, actually it's just an early building point for these two characters. The writer may have been gone for some time but the skill shown before has hardly diminished as you can see. And without further ado, I, the mysterious unnamed narrator, bid farewell until the next chapter. I'm so excited, I wonder what will happen next.
Noella 1: A Paradise of Persona
An educational clash
Spike and Kiki found their way into library, opening the door to be greeted by a large balcony. Any careless victim would easily stumble over the edge if not careful. Stairs on adjacent sides led down to gigantic sea of knowledge below where hundreds of the thousands of books lay closed ready to be explored. From the balcony itself, the view was surreal overlooking the entirety of the humongous room with great detail. One section was catered to children decorated with two serpent like dragons fighting above. Another was toward history, decorated with statues of the two princesses fighting against an Tidal wave of unknown force. "Still as eerily beautiful as it once was."
"You think the library is beautiful?"
"Well yea, just look at all the knowledge that lies in wait. The decorations and the people, it's all...refreshing."
"You spent way too much with Twilight."
"She used to bring me here everyday when I was growing up. Read to stories to me and tell me all about the history of Ponyville...you know...before it went into the gutter. Now where is she?"
"I think I see Pinkie under the statues of the princesses." The figure looked the part of Pinkie but was it really her they wondered. Wasn't until that pink figure began jumping up and down that their suspicions were confirmed. They made their way down the steps and began to move towards the trio of girls. As they neared closer and closer, Spike began to slow down. Suddenly his eagerness began to fade, the will to approach became a 10 ton weight and soon he would show it. His body became sluggish, ten times the weight with each step. His face changed from a hopeful smile to a nervous frown and he could no longer think straight. "Spike? You ok there buddy?"
"Um...fine...yea."
"You're not ok, I can tell."
"No no, i'm fine...trust me."
"Spike, you're sweating like waterfall....which I didn't know a dragon could do."
"That obvious huh?"
"Remember what I said ok? You have your reasons to address and she has her's, no one is more at fault here."
"Ok.....I can do this....."
"And if that doesn't work just repeat something to yourself I guess?"
"Like what?"
"Uh...I don't know maybe something like you can win, you feel great, you can do this."
"Yea I'm not gonna do that."
"Worth a shot."
Kiki waited patiently as Spike took in a few deep breaths and began to move forward. As soon as he stepped within visual range of the three girls, Pinkie with deflated hair was all over him, hugging and kissing him uncontrollably. "Oh my Spikey wikey! I thought you'd never get better. Twilight assured me you were ok after I kicked you so I was happy but then I got to thinking and thought that maybe you were dead and no one knew it and eventually someone would figure it out and I'd be at fault and then Twilight would on a magical rampage in the city and...."
She was immediately cut off by Fluttershy's hand to her her continuous rambling. "We're glad you're ok Mr. Spike....I knew you'd be ok." she said with a tear to her words.
Spike smiled before patting Pinkie on the head. "Thanks for apparently snapping me out of it Pinkie."
With a revitalization of her pink poofy hair, she hugged him ever so tighter. "Anything for you Spikey."
"I'm glad you're happy Pinkie but not trying to die."
"Oh...sorry hehe."
"Where's Twilight?"
Fluttershy pointed to the lifeless pony sitting at a table just a few feet away. "She's been at it ever since we left. We told her that maybe it was better to rest after such a exhausting fight but she insisted that she continue researching until a reason for your transformation could be found. The result, she fell asleep."
"That's just like Twilight. Not a wink of sleep can be given if she's determined to finish something." Spike approached her and began to rock her body. "Twilight...Twilight wake up."
With a burst of speed, she shot up, eyes wide open like saucers. "What happened?! Oh crap, I fell asleep?! I gotta keep going or Spike will..."
"Twilight calm down. I'm right here, perfectly fine."
"Oh Spike." she said with sigh of relief before getting up to hug him. "I had this dream about you turning into that thing again and..."
"No need to relive the memory Twilight, I'm here and that's all that matters."
"I must continue to research the condition. I am glad you're ok though."
"Before you work yourself to the bone again, we need to talk."
"About what?"
"Me going to explore the world like I said earlier."
She was silent, thrown back into the reality of her situation. She removed herself from Spike's embrace and proceeded to sit down placing the tips of her fingers to comfort her temples. "I don't want to talk about this Spike."
"We're gonna have to eventually."
"I refuse. My current goal is to make sure you're safe and that's what I'm gonna do."
"And why not Twilight? Why are you so against this idea huh?"
"Because I refuse to let you go..."
"Twilight, I've grown so much over the years. Don't you think there's a time where a mother should let her son go?"
"No! You may not be my biological son but nonetheless you are my baby boy. I can't let you go just like that, not after you've been gone for so long."
"Even so, I'll only be gone a couple of months at the most. You'll see me sooner than you think."
"I can't let you go."
"You can."
"No I can't!"
"Listen to me Twilight! You've been with me my entire life, if not physically than more so spiritually. I love you and that will never change....those things I said back at the clinic...about being a failed experiment...I never believed them. I never once thought of myself as a failure, never even considered that maybe I was a test of your skills. No failure has the strength to get up and try again, no failure has the capacity and care to nurture a baby phoenix. These are all the things you gave me and so much more. My dream was always to return to you one day but in order for me to figure out who I am...really...you have to learn how to let me go."
She looked up at him, a single tear down her cheek. Silence filled the air as both of them stared into each other's eyes. Spike was anxious to receive a response, Twilight was obviously reluctant to give one. That is, until she stood up, her muscles seemingly shaken up with fear. "Can I...trust you Spike?"
"Trust me?"
"To stay safe...please promise me...please."
"I promise you Twilight, I mean come on, I am a dragon after all."
For a second, her head still hung low, her expression still emotionless. Then, she rose, a promising smile upon her face. "Spike....please come here."
Spike happily obliged as he took a step closer, Twilight's arms wrapping around him an warming embrace. "Uh...Twilight?"
"I want you to know that I love you. I wouldn't have my life any other way without you. Please...keep your promise...stay safe...stay alive...come back to me..."
"Don't worry, I will...mom."
As if the emotional embarrassment wasn't enough, a loud squeal was heard from Fluttershy in the background, down right in tears from shear happiness. "That...was...beautiful..."
Spike sighed at the Fluttershy's most common trait, her emotional understanding. "Fluttershy, why are you crying?"
"I'm just so happy that you two made up you know..."
"Even when it's not you huh Fluttershy?"
"I'm sorry...I just can't pass this moment of beauty up."
"Oh what am I saying, it totally makes that much more adorable." Fluttershy blushed and hid behind her sleeves once more while everyone slightly chuckled. "So it's settled then. I'm going as long as I stay safe right?"
Twilight wiped the final tears from her eyes before engaging Spike's eyes with her own, a look of anger on her face. "That's the deal mister, I expect you keep it you got that?"
"Yes mam, I swear." he said in haste.
"Good, now let's head to the Clinic shall we."
"Hey wait, did you find out anything about my.....transformation."
"Nothing solid I'm afraid. The only thing I was able to narrow down was a tale of similar details in a children's book." She said picking the small book of the table. "It's the story of how the Princesses defeated the evil dragons just before the war of Noella. There's nothing really that interesting to note except the last few pages where the dragon turns into something that closely resembles what you became Spike. A infinitely black dragon with white piercing eyes. I'm unsure however, that could be a depiction used by the author to scare the kids or to slander the truth behind it which is why it's not credible."
"Well it only seems to come from extreme anger or stress. Guess I'll just have to keep my temper in check."
"You're usually very good at that, shouldn't be a problem. Anyway, I suggest we prepare you for the trip."
"What about the Clinic?"
"I'll use a time spell on it. It'll be good as new."
As they all exited the Library, the night sky greeted them with it's cold embrace, illuminating them in moonlight and a sea of stars. They all gazed up at them as they returned towards the Clinic, paying no attention to their surroundings. It was then that something felt off, the streets were quiet and ominous but this was something else. Spike's draconian instincts detected a presence, a scent of something that seemingly had no organic scent. It didn't smell like a regular animal, instead of a very metallic nature making him rub his nose in frustration. "What the hell?"
Twilight was about to chew him out until she realized he was distressed. "Spike, you ok?"
"Something....is messing up...my smell."
"What do you mean something?"
"I smell something....it doesn't smell normal."
"What are you talking..." was all she could get out before something flew into the night sky, black as night. With a gleam in her eye, she quickly motioned everyone to dodge before grabbing Spike and disappearing with amazing speed as the concrete flew up in a devastating shockwave. Out of the blast range, Everyone reappeared, coughing as the debris filled the air. "Guess that's (cough) what Spike was smelling."
As the smoke cleared from their view, it remained heavy around something directly in the middle of the impact alongside some faint arguing it seemed. "I thought you said we would hit them?"
"That was the plan you idiot. I didn't think they would be able to sniff us out."
"Maybe you should stop underestimating your targets."
"And maybe you should shut up. Besides it's more fun when they prove me wrong and give off some awesome power."
"That habit's gonna get you killed one day."
"At least I got a good fight out of it."
Any chance we can get on with it. I mean Spike does have somewhere to be right now.....I'm just the narrator but come on.
"Your a pain I swear. By the way, I think they know we're here."
"Good, now I can fight them."
"I'm here too you dill hole."
Within seconds, the smoke seemingly faded as a large shockwave erupted from the two figures revealing the appearances.
Everyone looked in near shock at the two mysterious figures in front of them, Spike and Kiki the most surprised out everyone. Quickly Spike stepped forward and asked the million dollar question. "Who are you?...What are you?"
"Oh look Alex, that's the dragon we're looking for."
"What are you blind Victor?"
"I was trying to build something up you know."
"Oh really, I...am...so sorry."
"I hear that sarcasm you jerk."
"Can we just fight them now?"
"We're not animals Alex, well we are, but we're not without honor. They deserve an introduction."
"You...are...a...pain. Fine. Hello there residents of Ponyville. I bet you're wondering who we are right?"
Spike sighed. "I did ask that yes?"
"Well then, allow me to introduce myself. I, the shadow of time, am Alex."
"And I, the light of time, am Victor."
"(Simultaneously) It's very nice to meet you." They said placing an arm across their chest as they bowed with a sinister smile.
"Now that we've introduced ourselves..." Victor began before Alex quickly stepped in front of him.
"Introductions over, fighting now." he said as aimed his large gun at them, charging it up. A ball of energy appeared floating inside the tip of the gun before letting lose a laser that everyone effectively dodged. It seemed to do nothing at first, the size of the laser comparable to string until suddenly, the exact path the laser followed erupted with a string of an explosion. "Uh....oops."
Wow, that's seriously messed up.
Twilight quickly removed her staff from her person, extending it in anger. "Are you crazy?! You just leveled half the block!"
"Fine, if your get all uppity about it. I'll just switch it up." he said flipping the gun over so the slimmer bit faced them. It then split into two, the slimmer portion transforming into a hilt allowing a medium sized blade to spring from its tip, the larger half now remained a smaller gun. "I think this will cause less collateral."
"Alex!" Victor screamed. "Did you seriously forget what we're here for?"
"Stop busting my chops already, I got it. Now ponies....and squirrel apparently. Hand over the dragon and I might consider letting you live."
Kiki gasped. "Spike? Why do you want him?"
"None of your business runt, now hand him over!"
"I'm not going anywhere with you." Spike quickly retorted.
"Fine, suit yourself." he said non nonchalantly before quickly rushing forward at Spike, sword pointed directed at him.
Without warning, Twilight appeared in his path, stopping his sword narrowly with her staff before pushing him back. "Back off my dragon!"
He rushed forward once again slashing at her horizontally, her staff blocking it before he quickly pulled it back and slashed again vertically. She once again blocked it, retaliating quickly with unsuccessful swing to the leg and another unsuccessful swing overhead. "Think that staff will trick me!" he said lunging forward letting the sword pierce her staff once again. "Try this on. Paradox Arc: Time erasure!" Without warning, he began to leave images of himself behind, moving so fast that time seemed irrelevant. He removed his sword quickly front flipping and slashing horizontally before impossibly jumping back letting Twilight's attack pass harmlessly by. As the staff leveled horizontally he rushed back taking a kick to the staff, removing his sword, and aiming his gun at her almost simultaneously. A small shockwave erupted from his gun sending Twilight flying over Spike and into the distance rolling like a rag doll. "I guess they didn't know we had special abilities. You think I'm the Shadow of Time for nothing."
"Twilight!" Spike screamed as he rushed to help.
"I'm ok Spike, only a little rattled. He broke my staff though."
Alex slightly chuckled. "Speed unlike your wildest dreams, that's the power of Paradox Arc. Now are you going to hand over the dragon or am I going to have to get physical again."
"Um....excuse me..." a voice faintly called out.
"Because you guys really aren't as fun as I thought you were."
"Um...excuse me...could you maybe..."
"Like I seriously think you're like the weakest people I've ever met.
"Excuse me..."
"Who in the hell is saying that?"
"Over here..." Fluttershy said as she raised her hand.
"Kinda busy here so make it quick."
"I'd rather you stop hurting my friends now."
"Uh huh....and why is that exactly?"
"I just really think there are ways to do this peacefully."
"We're past the point of peaceful now. It's like that flower right there. See how it's not doing anything to me."
"No...please..."
Carelessly, Alex aimed his gun a fired a small pellet of energy leaving the flower charred to the core. "That's basically what we've done, difference is you guys fought back which means people get hurt, see what I mean?"
Tears welled up in Fluttershy's eyes as she looked at the charred flower. "That.. was just...an innocent flower..."
"And we destroyed half the block, what's new?" Suddenly Fluttershy shot her glance at him, the pupils completely gone from their placement making his entire body reeling back at the sheer force of her stare. "The hell!" Without warning she shot off running towards him. "Oh so you wanna play this game to!" He retaliated with own push of speed, readying his sword and gun as they neared each other. He quickly jumped up placing his finger on the trigger planning on using the potshot to gain some ground with his sword. Before he could even blink though, she took hold of his leg and pulled him closer, taking a palm directly to his face. They both slide back from the shockwave before rushing again. This time, Alex took to using his sword first, attempting over a dozen stabs before Fluttershy palmed the sword upward. Using a fan like motion to move the sword in a circle effectively removing it from his hands and tossing it few yards away. "Crap!"
"Hah!" she screamed as she instantly appeared in front of him, readying yet another palm to the chest. Within seconds, Alex quickly raised his gun so it's side faced her. "Benevolent Arc: Gentle wind!"
She slammed it with amazing force, a large shockwave of pink wind exploding out sending Alex sliding back all the way to his partner, effective enough to drop him to one knee. "You...freak...you destroyed my gun."
"Then take the other...and leave this place. Don't ever return or i'll have no choice but to destroy you."
"Hmm...What do you think Victor...worth it?"
"Eh...well she already destroyed your gun, and boy was that expensive."
"And that means?"
"No, no it's not."
"Well then, I guess that's it. You bunch really proved me wrong, especially the girl who broke my gun. We'll meet again, I swear it."
With that, they quickly jumped off into the night leaving everyone to regain their thoughts. Fluttershy stumbled a bit before dropping to her knees. her pupils returning to her. "Is.....everyone ok?"
Everyone quickly rushed to her aid, helping her to her feet before sitting her on a bench still standing. "Fluttershy..." Twilight started. "How did you do that?"
"I don't know. I just got mad and there it was."
"That's an insane amount of power you just gave off. Outstanding really."
Pinkie pie quickly responded before anyone could comment. "Why are we not asking the bigger question here like who the heck those guys were and why they wanted Spike?"
"You're right. Spike do you know those guys?"
"No Twilight. I've never seen them in my life."
"Hmm....Everyone back to the Clinic then, I'll repair the street and be back in 30."
Everyone sat at where the table used to be, still contemplating the situation at hand before Twilight finally walked in. "That took too much magic out of me. I probably won't be able to repair the Clinic until tomorrow. Oh, is everyone here?"
They all nodded as Twilight took a lean against the wall. "Exactly what is going on today?" Kiki started. "We got two robot looking jerks out there trying to get at Spike the same day he goes berserk."
"They have to be connected. That being said...Spike, are you still willing to go out there and explore the world?"
"Yup." he responded. "I can't let this discourage me from figuring out who I am. Even so, I noticed alot about them, mainly the advancements they seem to have."
"I noticed it too. Their bodies seem to be composed of highly advanced robotics, making them much stronger, faster, and allowing them a large variety of abilities."
"Didn't he yell something out before he attacked you?"
"It was a Paradox Arc move...impossible."
"I think Time erasure was it's name." Kiki noted.
"It's been quite some time since I've seen a time manipulating Arc. Actually now that I think about it." Twilight said before summoning words in what little bit of magic she had. "There are literally two types of magic that are completely inert within the current generation unless trained for in extreme amounts. That being the Celestial Arc belonging only to the princesses and the Terrestrial Arc once belonging to the dragons. Paradox however, It's impossible to obtain that time manipulating Arc. That Arc was lost to time long before the dragons died. It'd be a lifetime to unearth any information about it."
"That doesn't quite explain why somebody just just attacked us with it. I mean I was a princess and I didn't know about it."
Fluttershy placed a finger to her chin before gasping. "Wait a moment, you're always talking about inventing artificial Arcs for those not committed to the training. Is it possible that their metallic bodies may have..."
"Had something that provided them with a artificial version of a Arc missing to time I never thought of that. Question is....who's smart enough to even touch the power of manipulating time."
"Well after my little episode....(cough)....he did leave his sword attachment behind." Fluttershy said before pulling it out.
"Fluttershy you amazing person you. I'll need to study this profusely to get a better idea of what who might have created this. Don't worry though, I'll be there for you departure Spike. Should probably fix the Clinic first."
Spike chuckled at that. "Yea, I'd rather sleep without the breeze you know."
"You caused it so be quiet."
"Right...sorry."
"Don't worry about it Spike. We're still not sure what it is you turned into so it's not your fault. But not sleeping...that's your fault. Once I fix the Clinic, that's your destination I hope."
"Oh trust, after me, it is." After a good ten minutes, the Clinic finally looked good as new allowing everyone take a bed to sleep. Spike however, stayed on the roof, his thoughts swirling around everything that happened today. His transformation, Kiki's sudden urge to push her feelings on him, the fight between them and the that lost Arc user. "What the hell happened today? I've been the cause of so much risk today but why?" Is just being a dragon all it is?"
"What'cha thinking bout?" Kiki said as she stepped out onto the roof.
"Just...today..." he said still gazing into the stars.
"We could do without anymore of that today. I had to hide upstairs, had a temper tantrum, got tossed around by a jerk named Alex, I think I could do with a super long nap." she sitting down in the fetal position.
Spike chuckled before laying down as well, his arms behind his head. "I completely agree....say, can I ask you something?"
"Sure, what's up?"
"Was it a coincidence that we became friends."
"I don't think so. I believe we were fated to meet."
"Why do you think that? What if I hadn't gone investigating in that bush?"
"Then I most likely would have seen you at the Clinic. There's no avoiding me Spike." she said in a playful tone.
"Ok ok, just don't get weird on me."
"Can I tell you something I probably should have told you first of all?"
"I'm not surprised."
"This pen....sort of....might...maybe....have a mind of it's own sometimes."
"Say again?"
"It sometimes draws things without my knowledge. It drew the train arriving at the specific time, which just so happened to be the time you got off. When I got there to see what it wanted me to see, the drawing had disappeared and before I knew I saw you getting off."
"So you're telling me that that pen drew us sleeping together."
"Yea probably, but see." she said quickly dropping down to get her notebook and returning back to her sitting position. "The drawing is gone."
"So what do you think it was trying to tell us back there?"
"I'm nervous to assume the obvious."
"I won't lie, I feel the same. So I'm gonna go back down, you?"
"Actually. Spike, I'd like you to stay up here...with me...or whatever."
"Feeling lonely?"
"No...just thought it it'd be cool to look at the stars is all."
"Sleeping under the stars is nice too."
Spike felt his grow heavy, his mind drift off as the night lured them both to sleep. Before he could though, he felt a slight warmth at his side, Kiki kindly cuddled up next to him, And after one day of absolute hell, he felt this nice and calm rest was what he needed as he shut his eyes.
